My wife and I have considered Southern Pig and Cattle on 200 one of our go to restaurants. The staff is always great and we do love the food Today we went to the Drive thru to get our dinner tonight. We ordered everything and specifically asked for their sweet BBQ sauce. Usually we check our order before leaving but the employee pointed that that all the sides and sauces were in a brown bag we were given. I figured if she pointed that out then we should be good to go We get home and no BBQ sauce as we requested. We check all the bags and even the receipt says sweet on it. So essentially we have the meat but no sauce for it. Thats kinda the essence of good BBQ is the sauce So I was a little upset. So I called and the first person I spoke to did apologize and said since they were closing they could not do anything. Next time though they would give us extra sauce That to me was not adequate. So I requested a manager The Manager did say we could swing by and get the sauce but that is a 15 minute trip to go back. That was it. That was all they offered. So I have to waste 30 minutes of my time(my food is getting cold that whole time) to get BBQ sauces I was assured by their employee were in the bag. The manager also said they could not offer anything since there was nothing wrong with the food. Well yes there is. It defeats the purpose of good BBQ not to have sauce to use with it I was not expecting a free dinner or anything. An offer of a free appetizer would have been nice. Give me a reason to come back and spend more money there I know that sounds minor but it's the small things that matter when choosing amongst the numerous restaurants in the area. We took my mom here the day after Christmas although we live in Orlando and she had recommended it. It was okay barbecue I had the slice pork sandwich with fries and baked beans the beans were good the fries were crispy the sandwich did not have much pork on it. My wife had the brisket she said it wasn't very much and cut Way too thin she had cornbread fries and she said the cornbread was okay but not great. My mom had the same plate as my wife and she said the same thing. I think that this price level I would prefer Sonny's BBQ over this. They did have a salad bar but it just did not look very good Sonny's used to have a salad bar most of them are gone I think. With tip for three people it was $61 I'm not so sure it was worth it. I had the baby backs and have to agree that they are best in Marion county but not the best in Florida as you will have to try Oakwood smokehouses in lake county 4 locations. Tasty food delicious but always busy and a tad bit too loud for me. All the food was cooked perfectly and had excellent flavor. The atmosphere was non stop noise and chatter was very distracting. Although I enjoyed my meal, this style of barbecue isn't my favorite. The meats were smoked and sliced paper thin with a machine. I much prefer hand sliced thicker cuts where you can SEE the meat, the smoke ring and fat layer. Sides were good. I had beans, greens and fried okra. 3 choices of BBQ sauce- something for everyone. Corona19-phase 1 Went for lunch while waiting for my car. I was seated by the hostess, she was not wearing a mask. She took a menu out of the 'bin' and set it in the table. When my server came over I was relieved that she had a mask on. She took my order and then picked up the menu and placed it back in the bin. It appeared to me that the menu's are not being cleaned. As I looked around, only half of the servers were wearing masks. As I waited for my order I noticed there is an open salad bar and self serve soup. There are gloves and a sign stating the gloves must be used before handling the utensils but masks are not required or suggested. As I watched, one of the unmasked ungloved servers went over to tidy up the salad bar. I am not sure what is required at this time but I do know that I was very nervous with the lack of caution. I should've heeded the other reviews! Anywhere that serves pulled pork bbq with the sauce mixed in is clearly hiding something. Might as well have bought a can of dinty moore, it might've been better. Traveling all day I needed a bite and drove throughout Ocala looking for something that spoke to me. I was hoping for a good plate of que and a glass of sweet tea. The tea was great so theres that. I ordered a combo plate w pulled pork and chicken (assuming pulled chicken for a sandwich but nope - just a hunk of really dried out chicken. The baked beans were ok but I don't care for sugar in my food, they had lots of it and was hoping for more of a tang or bite to the baked beans but again no. Prices a little higher than Sonny's. The food is excellent. My party of 6 had a variety of the side dishes and pronounced them all good. A couple of us really liked the cornbread. I don't like cornbread with sugar in it, and this definitely had sugar. However, my macaroni and potato salads were good. I had the combination plate with brisket and pulled pork (as did 3 others) They were both good, with the pulled pork being best in my opinion. One of us had turkey and pronounced it excellent. The service was excellent. I regret I failed to get our server's name; she was friendly, prompt in serving, and checked on how we were doing. My parents brought me here while I'm visiting them for the holidays! I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not going to lie, this place isn't necessarily anything exceptional or unique, but this restaurant is everything a restaurant should be. Extremely clean and well maintained. The salad bar actually *is* fresh. And the service is super quick and efficient. A ton of food for your buck, the entree I ordered was allowed 3 sides.
