Souvla is great. For me, I enjoy coming here once every few months to enjoy one of their great and large salads. Personally, I get the pork salad but have chicken instead of pork. It's better IMO. The sweetness and consistency reminded me of Beijing yogurt, which is one of my fav things ever! The base was soft and creamy without being too tart (far less tart than say Fage but not as sweet as most froyo options). The potatoes are average and actually too greasy. The avgolemono soup was new to me and I have never had it. It was a smaller serving. It had chicken, rice, egg stock, chicken broth..and it was good, but completely new to me. These were sides at Souvla. It's a small space, but not too crowded. Opening Day today! Being very familiar with the Souvla brand, I had to step inside and grab a bite. Souvla is a super popular Greek eatery with locations on Valencia, Hayes, Diviz, and now on Chestnut, in the heart of the beautiful Marina neighborhood. I've been to all their locations, and the most appealing aspect is the nice modern interior. This spot in the Marina is a comfortable and pleasant place to grab a quick and casual bite. No table service, just order at the counter, and they'll bring the food to your table. Although this branch is very small, it is cozy, with a nice Marina neighborhood clientele. I wish I could say that the food is their most appealing aspect, but it's just average. The price, though is higher than you'd expect for what you actually get. This time, I got the Lamb Wrap ($14.00 pretax, $15.00+ with tax). It's served with chunks of spit roasted lamb, but the pieces in my wrap were either overly fatty or super dry. The good news is that if you eat inside, you can douse your wrap with the delicious hot sauce on the table. Personally, I'd rather just have moist meat with plenty of yogurt sauce. It came with some yogurt sauce, but it was very sparse. The highlight, though, was the fresh and warm pita bread, with a lightly browned bottom. Their spit roasted meats are a nice change, but they always seem to veer on the drier side. The dryness of their meats is especially noticeable when you order their salads. In addition to the dry chunks of meat, the portion of meat served on their salads are very skimpy, given the prices they charge. The salad ingredients, though, are very fresh. That said, I have no doubt that folks in the Marina would easily pay $18.00 for these wraps, without question. All said, it's still a great addition to the Marina, and it's a neighborhood where Souvla should thrive. read more
