This is you solid local diner. The food is good and very local. It was close to my hotel. I will go again when staying near them.

This was my first time here with a group of 5. We waited about 10 minutes before being greeted. Then we got a table after about 5 minutes on a Sunday morning which I thought was fine! Then, we were told by the guy at the front "is the rest of your group here because others are waiting for a table". He even said this with us being the only ones actually waiting in the lobby... feeling rushed we texted the other three to essentially tell them to get here. Then.... The buss guy who doesn't have a mask on asks us if we want drinks. Ok, thanks but where is our waiter? Lol We asked the Buss guy for 5 coffees, and he brings back one. Lol. This was before even the food was ordered. Food, however, was decent and sadly I don't think just the food will bring me back. read more

Friendly, Clean, reasonably priced, flavored creamers and Breakfast served All-Day (allowing swap of bread for a pancake) are big PROS. Cons - service is slow (even when not busy). Bacon was uncomfortably Salty, rock hard burnt inedible pieces in their home fries and coffee was old/over brewed/poor flavor. read more

We were in the area and thought we'd give this place a try. The servers were polite, professional and the food was plentiful and delicious. Our server (Destiny) was so pleasant and professional and though she was very busy multi-tasking and ensuring all customers were fully satisfied, she maintained a positive demeanor. We are staying in hotels and eating out for a few days until our RV gets rejuvenated. We had been working extremely hard for really long hours with hassles and we just. wanted. Comfort. Food. We had been to a Spires in a different town and loved it so we thought we'd try it here. The first thing you notice is the pie case. They all look wonderful. They had numerous kinds- lemon meringue, banana creme and apple were some I can remember. We were shown to a table by the manager. The menu has a large selection with so many good choices from appetizers to salads to fried chicken and steaks. We chose a senior hamburger steak with fries and chicken fried chicken with mashed. The only difference in the senior meal is they have only one side and they get a small dessert. That's a win! The meal came with soup (navy bean or vegetable) or a salad. We both got the navy bean- and when it came to the table, it was a huge bowl! We ate half the soup. Our entrees were also a good portion. The chicken fried chicken had a good crunchy coating and tender-and juicy chicken breast inside. The mashed with country gravy was pretty good but I question if it's homemade. The hamburger steak was good though pretty plain (no fried onions) and the gravy was good. The dessert was rice pudding or ice cream. We both chose the rice pudding with cinnamon and whipped cream made at Spires. It was excellent. Our server, Juan, was taking care of all the restaurant but took time for every table. He was very personable and knew the menu well. The manager even helped to deliver orders at a table with 8 people. They both deserve raises because they know how to run a restaurant right. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back. We felt so good after the comfort food and left the restaurant with a big bag of leftovers. Giving two stars because the service here was ok pretty basic hi here is your food and never come back to ask if it was ok (good thing because it wasn't). We got Eggs Benedict with home fries. The english muffin was soggy and obviously had not been toasted and the sauce was just ok although the eggs were cooked appropriately. The potatoes that came with it seems like they had been boiled and then seasoned there was no crisp texture which you would expect from a home fry. I got a bowl of cottage cheese that was soupy and bland like a generic brand they didn't even bother to stir before scooping it out. As you can see that is the only thing I ordered and didn't take more than a few bites. Seriously disappointed by this place after some of the reviews I read. At 830am on a sunday it was pretty dead and I understand why. I think I would of been better off at a denny's. read more

Visiting from the San Francisco Bay Area and headed to Las Vegas tomorrow. Staying at the hotel adjacent to this restaurant. I ordered the Filet of Sole with salad, mixed vegetables, a roll and a baked potato. My meal was absolutely horrible! The potato was over baked and partially burnt. The Filet of Sole was dry and very rubbery with no taste. The so called salad was just iceberg lettuce with two small pieces of cucumber. The mixed vegetables was similar to canned del Monte Peas and Carrots. This place needs help from the TV Show 'Restaurant Rescue' as it doesn't satisfy even a 2 Star grade or that of a general diner. My guy got the strawberry shortcake. He was provided a burnt end of a pound cake and small in size. If you come to Ontaro this place does not equate to an acceptable nor fit cuisine. They need a experienced chef who can make palable food for adequate consumption. Not a Happy camper. Very disappointed It literally left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

We came in with a group of 12. Atmosphere was very calm and relaxing. Staff was nice, food was good. Preparation & delivery was a bit slow, but we were not in a hurry. The only odd thing was having to wait until every plate was delivered to get condiments. We had a work crew so they were hungry and not interested in waiting on ketchup. Would recommend. I used to love Spires as a kid growing up in Southern California, so when I went back to Ontario for a visit, I had to eat there again! The place is old school in the best possible way. The restaurant had that classic Spires shape and had old Norman Rockwell-type art on the walls. I was a little nervous because I had limited time to eat between arriving at the airport and making my way to the convention center. Spires was very conveniently located right between the two, so that was great! Luckily, the service was lightning fast and also very friendly. The food was delicious. I got the French toast breakfast and was more than happy with the price and taste. I highly recommend Spires for some good ol'-fashioned breakfast! read more

We came in on 7/5/21. Walked in and as we were waiting to be seating we noticed the dessert Fridge had pies with mold on them. The hostess seats us and I whisper to her that there are a few pies with mold on them and she should take them out. When we were done with our meal I took a peek again and the molded pies were still there. Hey I tried We order our drinks, my husband gets coffee and I get an iced tea. The server brings our drinks and the coffee mug still has lipstick on it . I informed the server and she gave him a new cup. At this point my husband was ready to leave. What is it with upland having the most incredible food choices! This place was a cute 50s style diner with some of the original fixtures and architecture that were fascinating to see. Our server was very polite and quick, and the food was to die for. I had a BLT and it was perfect. The bacon was well cooked, everything else was assembled, I mean it's a BLT but it was exactly as it should be. The french fries were wonderful, the ice tea was homemade and that makes all the difference in the world. This place is a 10 out of 10 and I would eat here all the time if I could. read more

First time here. Friday 9am. Not too crowded but they had about 20-30 customers. I really got that classic American diner. Great customer service. Old but clean restaurant. Good location. Plenty of parking spaces. Affordable prices. Home style omelet was okay, but it was nice to have that piece of avocado. Fried zucchinis were cut too thick. We had our Resurrection Day lunch here. Walking in gives you the nostalgia feel, however, the restaurant is very clean, spacious and the wait staff was great. We had a large party who decided to not show up on time, yet we were still seated and orders were taken throughout the various arrival times of everyone. The food was amazing, we ordered two liver & onion senior meals which came with chicken gumbo soup they enjoyed immensely, waffle combo, the eggs were cooked to perfection and the waffle had the right amount of fluffy & crisp, tuna melt and onion rings- this is my new favorite place for onion rings they were seasoned perfectly, French toast, sampler and supreme omelet. I stopped by for a quick dinner on a business trip as this was close to my hotel. I ordered the 1/2 sandwich, soup/salad meal. The daily Beef and Vegetable Soup was fantastic. Rich and hearty, loaded with vegetables! The broth was seasoned perfectly and it was really satisfying. I was expecting a small cup of soup, but was served a full bowl. My half Patty melt and garden salad were great as well. More food than I could eat! Service was a bit lackluster. My server dropped off my food and then never came back other than to drop off my check. Never checked to see how I was doing or to top off my clearly empty drink. The restaurant was pretty quiet at this point of the day, so I can't say she was too busy with other tables. All in all, I'd eat here again for simple and tasty food! read more

I enjoyed my breakfast. I was seated promptly. I asked for hot water and they gave it to me, no problem. Some places will charge for the water. My waitress was very nice. I ordered the sirloin and eggs with cottage cheese instead of the hash browns. The steak was good, not too salty, but had a little gristle in the center. I just ate around that. It came with toast, the bread was not awesome, just ok. The eggs were perfectly over easy. The only thing is that the internet is very slow. It was only ok for email.
