Wow, this is definitely one of my favorite burger places. The meat is all fresh and organic. I had their High Society burger and it was delicious. I could only eat about half of it and our server was so nice to let me know that they do offer smaller versions of any of the burgers on the menu. The burgers are half pounders, but they do offer 1/3 pounders as well which is what I will get next time. People on here mention that it is expensive, but I really think it is priced fairly. There are sides of fries and onion rings on the menu that are like $5, but that is a basket to share for 2-3 people. You can add on a personal side for just $2. They also have a ton of craft beers on tap and a full bar. It's a cute, trendy place as well. We will definitely be back! read more

Their claim is better ingredients, grass fed beef, fancier cheese la, la, la.... For $9.00 a burger (fries extra) I wanted it to be lick my fingers good. I ran out of meat before the bread (never a good sign in my eyes) and if it weren't for the Awesome sweet potato fries with delicious dipping sauce I would have had to go for 2 stars. This place is supposed to have a culinary trained chef for goodness sakes. It was okay. The service was good and the place was jumping at 11:30am on a Sunday. We are frequent diners at SQ Burger - we love the Lynne's Salmon Salad. Our last 2 visits have been disappointing. The salmon patty has been fine but something has changed with the salad or dressing. In fact on our last visit - instead of fresh halved cherry tomatoes - we got over-ripe whole cherry tomatoes that were marinated in something unidentifiable and should have been withheld from the salad. We are afraid to give it a 3rd try - If you are reading this SQ Burger - please look into what is different and make it like you use to! read more

What everyone sees in this place is beyond me. The service was ok, but everything else.... The excellent burgers I heard about, not. The burger was very dense, whatever they put in it did not taste good at all. Was supposed to be a bacon cheddar bbq burger, but the bbq sauce was barely able to be tasted, the cheddar tasted like shredded Kraft singles, and the bacon was as sparse as water in the desert. This pretty much tasted like a bad meatloaf sandwich. The onion strings tasted like they might be good if they were to change the oil in the fryer. They were supposed to have some sort of cajun spice, but I never tasted it, nor saw it. The sweet potato fries were tasty, but they gave us they bottom of the bag, so it was a bunch of little broken pieces that are really good at soaking up oil, I guess nobody told them not to serve that shit to customers. After eating the meatloaf sandwich, oops, I mean burger and greasy fries and onion strings, I enjoyed a pleasant night of indigestion. Go here if you like nice service and crappy food, I certainly won't be back. read more

The food here is REALLY good, but somewhat over priced. Also, the last time we went, it took them 15 minutes just to get our drinks, and, after waiting almost an hour, we still didn't have our food. If they were super busy when this happened, we would have been more understanding. However, we were one of five other couples there, and the others all had their food already. Update. I tried to give this place another shot tonight while waiting for another appointment downtown. The bartender spent 5 minutes chatting with a lady at the end of the bar before acknowledging me. He then proceeds to slam the menu down and walk away before I could even order a drink. I walked out at that point. I honestly don't know why people even bother with this place. I had high expectations for Square Burger. 4 stars on Yelp with a healthy # of reviews, good-looking pics of burgers, what more could I want. They even had a beer named after the great Robert Earl Keen on draft. That's got to count for something right? For starters, there were none. As in there were no appetizers to order. Usually at a "botique" burger joint, you at least see some sort of finger foods to try. Here, we had a gourmet mac & cheese and a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. Both labeled "munchies" on their menu. Second, the service. Our waiter treated us as an afterthought, never coming by to check on our food, only when my beer went dry did he come through. Also, my wife noticed one of the bus boys flirting with some customers and then mocking the way some people were eating their burgers as he walked around the restaurant (he had his hair geled up in the front). Truly a shame as the burgers were good and juicy. All that to say, great concept, just poorly executed in my opinion. read more

Great food and beer selection! However, the service is very slow, friendly, but slow. My husband and I have been here a few times for lunch and dinner and it doesn't matter what time it is, or how many people are in the restaurant, still slow. So my advice is don't wait until your starving to go there so that you don't end up telling the waiter off by the time the food gets there because your blood sugar level has dropped from waiting so long. These were the best burgers my husband and I have ever had. I had the parmigiana and my husband had the lamb burger. We shared the tempura onion rings as the side. Avery White Rascal beer to drink -- one of the best Hefeweizen-like beers I've ever had with a lemon-y flavor. Everything was delicious! Went on a Friday night at 8, still a wait. Ordered burgers, wings and sweet potato fries. Wings tasted like store bought, disappointed. Our burgers were ok, thought they were going to be better due to the long wait and overcrowded seating area. Noise level was a bit overwhelming. My family and I dropped in (6 people) for lunch. There were several tables open, but were told there would be a 25 minute wait since they didn't have 2 tables in the same server zone that they could pull together. It was plain as day that there were open tables next to each other, but apparently it would have caused a problem? Half of the restaurant was open with no wait list, no pending reservations.... and you're saying No to a 6Top? They offered to seat us at separate tables but said we would have to have two separate tabs. Really? Sorry we didn't meet your conditions, we left. No wonder they weren't busy on a Saturday during lunch peak time. I will not waste my time at this establishment again where they obviously don't care about serving their customers. Boo!! read more

Just had Square Burger for the first time, after reading the reviews I expected way more. Granted, I ordered it for delivery which I know is very rarely as good as going to the restaurant itself but with that in mind, I was still disappointed. The wings were mediocre, the ranch dressing tasted like mayo with ranch seasoning. I do believe the fries would have been better in the restaurant as they were soggy by the time I received them, this is to be expected though. Now, the burger was the biggest disappointment. The meat didn't have much flavor, the jalapenos we from a can/jar, not fresh, as well as the mushrooms. The avocado, tomato, and onion were nice and fresh. There was very little cheese on the burger and no type of sauce. Unfortunately, I will most likely not give this place a second chance. read more

I tried Square Burger for the first time nearly two years ago and knew immediately that there was something special about their burger--particularly their beef patties. They use locally sourced grass-fed beef from a farmer's market that's also located in downtown McKinney. They season it nicely too. Be sure to order your beef patty rare. It's delicious, top quality meat. You won't regret it. The atmosphere of this place is really slick. Downtown McKinney has its own style with countless antique stores and the like (not really my style). Square Burger fits in without really carrying that stale, nostalgic vibe. The restaurant just has a really clean look. It seems like something you might find in downtown Dallas. They also do really well with special orders. I don't think I've ever received a wrong order from here. From time to time, I have done a no carb diet and they will work with you on it. I've never eaten anywhere that actually recognizes that I am trying to go no carb when I order a burger without a bun--but here they'll actually help you. I was phoning in an order one time and the order taker asked me if I would like to substitute sautéed onions for crunchy onion strings and also gave me the option of forgoing the fried pickle--such a painful thing to do because the fried pickle that comes with your burger is SO PERFECT! They have really good sides here too. My wife and I have gotten the chicken wings numerous times and they are amazing--and we are wing aficionados. They're up there with the best wings we've ever had. Their wings normally come with breading but they can make them without the breading--obviously they're using fresh ingredients if they bread them in house! We've also tried their fries and their onion rings and they're also excellent. I don't always get to take advantage of it at lunchtime, but they have a great beer selection. I always like to try new beers and they make the most out of their 30 taps. They don't mess with the Bud/Miller/Coors crap that most bars feel obliged to carry. They carry something for everyone in their full service bar. I am not too fond of boring McKinney but I cannot stress enough how worthwhile it is to eat here. I would suggest this to anyone who can appreciate a good burger. Even from Dallas it would be worth the drive. Right now I work on the square and I will for sure miss having this gem right across the street when my company moves. I doubt that I will ever find a better burger anywhere else so even when I move away I'll be coming back. read more

Dining room servive doesn't match kitchen and is in serious need of some professional management. If you don't mind unprofessional kids running the dining room who are clueless to what it means to work, this place may not disappoint. Burgers are above average but at $11 a pop, they should be. Too bad the hostess, waiters, and busboys are more interested in socializing, checking their phones, and lounging in the waiting area and at the bar than attending to their customers. Good selection of craft beers. Seems the best bet for service is at the bar. Waitress took our order and delivered our check. The rest of our service was only realized by flagging down busboys. Probably the best burger I can remember having, and it wasn't even a traditional beef burger. I ordered the Lamb Burger, and it was cooked to perfection, juicy, fresh. I also ordered the sweet potato fries and though they were good, they were not as good as Village Burger Bar's. They were a little soggy for my taste, and they sprinkle some sort of sweet fine sugar on them, which IMO, is not needed. The dipping sauce was really good. I will be back because their burgers impressed me a lot and I can't wait to try more of their menu items. Interesting sounding desserts too. Great food from burgers to salads. My husband and kids said it was the best burger they've ever had. I loved my salad. I had the basic greens salad and one my sons had the mushroom burger...we loved it! The presentation is modern with the atmosphere of modern and vintage chic. Perfect burgers! Thick juicy well-seasoned grass fed patties on soft pillowy buns. Tempura onion rings are huge and delicious. The wings are also to die for. Juicy, slightly spicy and crisp; they are so buttery without being greasy at all. Garlic aioli (ask for it!) is wonderful to dip everything in. Some reviews complain about slow service, but I always have great speedy service here (we go on my fiancés lunch break). Ambiance is clean, modern and lovely. Bathrooms are nice. There are parts of Dallas like Bishop Arts and the Design District where you expect adventurous, cutting-edge menus consisting of organic, locally-raised, and/or uncommon ingredients. When you find a restaurant like that in McKinney, you are happy it lost its way and found a home in the 'burbs. You just hope the chefs don't run for greener pastures (isn't possible up here, but just saying). Walk into Square Burger and you'll immediately see the list of 50 or so beers available, written out on a chalkboard. Finally! It's painful trying to read the taps. Also up there are the specials and desserts, which change all the time. Not in the mood for a burger? Have a Kobe Wagyu steak, or a celery root soup. I've been here several times, about half the time actually getting a burger. Do yourself a favor: stop in, sit at the bar, discuss with the beer nerds about what Ale or Stout you should try that day, and see for yourself why this is the best restaurant on the Square. read more
