stopped by for breakfast and while the food was good/ok/decent, I don't think I'll be back for quite some time. first, I asked if I could have a macchiato and the server said yes and confirmed to me that it was espresso with foam. Cool, they can make it. what I got was a cup of coffee in a to go cup (even though I was dining in) with milk and a foam, so really what I got was a flat white. the other coffee ordered was a latte which was pretty standard I ordered the chicken sandwich ($12) which comes on a biscuit and a side of fruit, to round it out I also ordered the yogurt bowl which is yogurt and granola. When the sandwich came out it looked rather disappointing. The biscuit itself is small, probably the size of a Pillsbury dough biscuit, and the chicken wasn't much bigger. nothing else on it like a green, coleslaw, sauce, etc. just these two items. However, it did come with a side of a honey butter. the side of fruit was about 8 pieces split between pineapple, melon, and grapes. the whole sandwich was dry, which can be expected from a biscuit, but this was just too dry for me. the yogurt bowl($8) came in a small bowl that had a large flaring, basically the entire dish was large but the bowl portion was small. I eat yogurt everyday and the amount you get is probably half the size of a standard serving of yogurt (170g) and it was sparsely sprinkled with granola. my partner ordered a chorizo burrito ($15) and while she raved about the flavor the size of it was laughable, especially considering there are plenty of spots in LB that serve double or even triple the size of this burrito at or near the same price lastly, and the most disappointing of all, was the cinnamon roll($8). they were on display at the register and figured yeah I want one of those and instead of giving it to me right then and there it was brought with the rest of the food but it was not warmed up, which made me question why I waited for it. It was rool temp, burnt, and hard. I do want to try other items but the price you pay for what you get, especially considering this experience I had, is off putting. read more

I live within walking distance of this cafe and I really wish I liked the drinks and pastries more! Unfortunately my husband and I have tried a handful of drinks from here and never love them (especially for the price). The pastries are okay, but nothing unique and often dry. What I DO love from here that I've come back for a couple times are the Biscuits and Gravy. It's one of my favorite dishes so I try it at any breakfast place that serves them, and I must say, Steel Cup's take on B&G is one of my favorites. Their side of fruit has always been fresh as well. As far as atmosphere, it's a very pleasant cafe to eat at! Very open and airy layout with a decent amount of seating. The service has been moderately friendly. Maybe we'll try their drinks and pastries again simply because we live so close, but it's certainly not our favorite local spot for those items. read more

I was craving a fresh sandwich and a cup of coffee this afternoon, so I wanted to try something new. I stopped by steel cup Café. Upon entering the café, it was very clean, bright, inviting and well laid out; quite spacious! In addition to the regular menu, coffee and tea, they also have a pretty nice beer and wine selection, including mimosas. I enjoyed the ricotta veggie sandwich. It was good. I would give it a 5 out of 10 because the sprouts on the sandwich seemed to be on the older side and turning brown. The sandwich was still very flavorful - I enjoyed the flavor of mushrooms and ricotta. I would go back again, and look forward to trying something new. There were other items that looked just as good on the breakfast side. Another thing I linked, the café has a library corner, including a book club you can join and information on the bookshelf. I first passed this spot while running errands nearby and bookmarked it as one of the well-reviewed, dog-friendly cafes to come back to. Well, with my building testing the fire alarm system, it was high time to check it out! Steel Cup Cafe is larger than it initially lets on, with ample table seating to the left when you enter and a high table area on the right. You can choose from the many generously sized pastries from the counter or order from their all-day breakfast menu (as I did). The brunch burrito saved me from "hanger" and I had to pack the last quarter to go. Chai tea latte with whole milk is solid; I'll have to try the coffee next time! There must have only been one server behind the counter and one person in the kitchen, but service here is excellent. It's all smiles and the gentleman even helped me box up my burrito when he saw how many items I was carrying for both myself and my rescue dog. If I had to nitpick one thing, when I came, it was a warm day and noticeably stuffy inside. With the number of customers present, I wish there had been better circulation in the back. Although this joint is near my house, I almost never have a reason to stop in. Today marked my second visit ever - after being at the UPS store for like 30 minutes, I felt it prudent to grab a bite before heading back home to work. A timesaver, really - it was either that, or scramble a couple of eggs upon returning home. Boring. I've become really into breakfast sandwiches lately, and have made it my mission to try them all over town. Until today, the breakfast bar's (4th st location) was my favorite. There were a few people at tables when I arrived, with no one waiting to order; the guy who helped me was sweet and friendly, all good vibes, and I took a seat while I waited for my order to come up. The reason I mentioned I was the only one at the counter is because it did take a seemingly long time for my food to be ready - like, at the 15 minute mark, I was thinking, "after this much time and for $19, this better be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had." I wasn't salty about it, was just thinking, "now, I know how long it takes to scramble eggs, toast bread, and fry some bacon, what is going on back there? weird!" I don't know what they were doing for that 15-20 minutes I waited, but what I can tell you is that whatever it was, it resulted in the best breakfast sandwich - best breakfast, period, really - that I've had in more than a minute. To the point that the reviews I haven't yet written are going to sound a little wan in comparison. The sourdough was thick, toasted to perfection, and super buttery. The slabs of bacon were so large and generous that I instantly understood the pricetag. The aioli was delicious. And the sandwich was so huge that - despite how badly I wanted to plow through the whole thing - I accepted that I was full and saved the second half for a late lunch. Anyway, Steel Cup is now on my go-to list, although next time, I'm going to dine in so I can enjoy a mimosa (or three) as well. Huzzah, Steel Cup! I stopped by so I could work outside with my dog from all the reviews there but there were NO TABLES OUTSIDE! I ended up getting a drink which was good but because there were only inside tables I opted to leave. My small dog is very good (thats what they all say but she never barks and is old so she just sleeps) and I know SD is dog friendly but I wasn't too sure and wanted to respect the establishment and others who do not want a dog in a place where you eat/drink. The cafe is clean and minimalistic, there's some corners here and there with tables and a couch and a bar area where people work but no tables and chairs outside like the other reviews had. Great service, takes time to explain/answer questions you may have without rushing. I ordered the Brunch Burrito- did not disappoint, I love the taste- by far the best Burrito I've ever tasted. I ordered matcha, it was okay but not bad all. Then, I ordered banana walnut muffin, it was delicious especially when its warmed up and put butter. I had Mocha with it, everything is perfect. We've come into the plaza many times but we never experienced it until now. It was empty when we came but that didn't take away from anything. My girlfriend did the avocado toast special and I had the bacon eggs and cheese sandwich. Each one of our dishes looked incredible and tasted the same wording. I came here on a Wednesday morning to get some work done. There was plentiful parking and lots of open tables. I got a cappuccino, which was good, and a hot toffee latte, which came out lukewarm. That was disappointing. I don't think that the coffee or pastry selection here is particularly exciting, but I think it's a great environment for getting work done that has simple cafe options. Wow, what a great find for breakfast this morning! I've driven past Steel Cup Cafe many times but have never thought about trying it for breakfast...is was a great surprise! No long lines, nice vibe, plenty of parking and a very nice young man taking orders and working the register...win-win. The food was very good and the plating/presentation was really appealing to the eye. The price points for most of the items were very fair and consistent with the portion sizes, which everyone in my group appreciated. Some of the items that we tried were the breakfast scramble, banana bread french toast sticks, side salad, and breakfast burrito...everything was yummy. I took a bran muffin to-go which was also very good...it's hard to find bran muffins without raisins... The atmosphere is pretty bare-bones, its not a place that feels "hang out and be cozy", which is maybe what some people are looking for but it wasn't for me. What really steamed my beans is that my small-size latte (like very small - 8 OZ) (1 pump vanilla and almond milk) was $8 yet came in a DIXIE CUP. Absolutely positively straight to jail. I thought maybe they were just out of cups but I peeked my head in recently and it seems to be a thing. They were sold out of their house made sausage by 8:30am (!) - they were making a fresh batch so we waited and it was the best we ever had - herbascious with a spicy kick. We split it in biscuit breakfast sandwich form - my partner loved the biscuit. The ricotta veggie sandwich was really yummy too - loaded with lots of veggies that were each well seasoned on their own, and when they came together on the ricotta, aioli & grilled bread, it was a super satisfying and unique sandwich with great textures and flavors. The staff are great and you can tell there are a lot of regulars. Bonus that they have a mini Bel Canto bookstore and board games in the lounge area. Super cozy spot to enjoy a meal. Wanted to try this coffee shop by my house. Came here during the weekend in the morning and it was pretty quiet. Parking was easy as they have a parking lot. It had a nice ambiance with art pieces all over the shop for sale and books for sale too. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with biscuit and sausage and a latte.
