I was happy at first with the speed and efficiency of the workers, but am very unhappy with the followup. The gas company hooked up the gas much sooner that expected, so Sun Glow came out to finish while my roomy was home, but I was out. They installed an extremely complicated thermostat, but did not leave the instruction manual. They also did not leave the remote sensor that should have came with the furnace installation. They also left old fashioned masking tape on the outside wall to indicate where the meter should go, and it won't come off cleanly! I called Ricky Garcia 3 times, and someone else at the office once about these problems over the last 3 weeks, and was assured someone would come by to take care of this. Very unhappy! read more

After installing the HVAC system, Andre came back the next day to repair the duct and vents under the house the entire day before actually turning on the system to guarantee the new system would work properly. I can't complain about the Sun Glow office: they were nice and on top of things. And they repaired a furnace at one of my rentals with parts under warranty which they suggested. Great! What I didn't like was the irritable, unpleasant attitude of their technician Jeff who was in contact with my tenants. The day of the repair, I happened to be at the duplex with some other contractors doing work. Jeff was peeved that my tenant didn't answer the door (he works night shifts at a hospital and fell asleep on the couch). I was there and opened the door to call upstairs and asked Jeff to wait 10 minutes while I texted the tenant and his roommates some warning that Sun Glow was there and was coming in if I didn't hear back in 10 minutes. I went back to work in the basement area and then saw Jeff start to walk in, muttering he 'didn't have all day.' Thankfully, my tenant was coming down the stairs and apologized to which Jeff said "must be nice!" Unbelievable. Who's the customer here? Wait, that's me, the one paying $1,400 to his company! So disrespectful. BTW, I know they weren't waiting there that long because the contractors I was working left on a 15 minute break so I left to get a cup of coffee on the corner. That 15 minutes plus my time opening the door, 20 minutes tops. But the fact that he was just going to enter the house, when I said I wouldn't because I didn't think it lawful (or courteous) until I heard back (or didn't after fair warning): he didn't care, the world revolves around him apparently. Great. I let the interaction go and, literally, wouldn't have thought about it again except I get a $99.14 charge, in part for delayed access (and clearing the work area). Huh? Moreover, it appears they signed my customer authorization (for the bid price plus penalty) and acknowledgement (of work being done satisfactorily) on my $1,400 invoice! Now this is a whole other legal issue that, if I wanted, could pursue... You don't sign a document authorizing and accepting work as your own customer. But getting back to my main point of this review: maybe it is justified and I paid it but I don't think I'll use them again because of this, and, perhaps unfortunately for them, I own a lot of real estate and develop a fair amount of multifamily projects with various types of HVAC units (currently need to find an installer for mini-splits in a townhome development) in the tri-county area. I just don't understand people in business sometimes: you always have to know who's the customer and who's not. There's no gain in making someone dislike you or think poorly of you even if you think the work/sale is just a transaction and you will never see them again. I know the customer isn't always right, but, in this instance, we weren't jerks. And in the end, just not used to receiving service like that when paying $1,400 for a professional service. Sunglow's service was quick to come out here at their advertised price of $139 which is very reasonable to check my heat pump which wasn't performing up to par; since it is winter I needed efficient heating in this cold Oregon weather. HOWEVER - a few days later I get an "estimate" in the mail of $515.00 for a "replacement" of a "split remote," whatever that is. When I called them the receptionist was loud and brief, yelling out the name of their company and immediately putting me on hold (for 5"); and then when she came back I asked what a split remote is and why a I getting this estimate and she put me on hold again for 3". She came back a second time and said it (the letter) was just an estimate and was for the handheld device which I did ask about when the tech came here to check out my heat pump. Gerry (the tech who came here) said they didn't handle the remotes. Well, it turns out Sunglow DOES offer a replacement of the remote for $515.00!! Hence this letter!! All the tech did was clean the screens in the pump which is located high on my living room wall, in the kitchen sink with soap and water and then patted dry and reinstall (which took about 5"). So SUNGLOW is basically a "bait and switch" organization. I will not use this company again. My pump now works better but I do NOT appreciate what they did after my appointment. The remote is not worth $515!! And when I told the receptionist Gerry did not say SUNGLOW offers remote replacements, she just said again it was just an estimate (not a real explanation of why Gerry denied the company offers them) I'm not even sure if that price covered their coming out here again to deliver it or whether it would be sent to me through the mail! And Gerry asked me twice how old my system was; I told him twice it was 16 years old. read more

I have been a regular customer to this company for the last few years. This year, however, I was highly disappointed by the charges they applied for replacing a simple igniter. I was charged with 300$ for an igniter that costs about 15-20 $ at home depot or amazon. Be careful of what you are paying for. I am not going back to them again. They left feeling cheated. When I called their office, naive explanation I got is this is their standard pricing and they can not reduce the cost for me as they need to do same for the rest of their customers. Their furnace service cost me 145$ which took more efforts and time than to replace a simple igniter and still cost 270$ just for labour? I can't find any logical explanation. About a year ago in the middle of winter the hot surface ignitor went out on our 16 year old Rheem furnace. I called Sun Glow as they were the original installer of the furnace back in 2000 when the house was built. Since this was deemed and emergency (same-day service) I was going to have to pay over $290 to have a $25 part installed. Fortunately the service tech that came out that day (Antonio), explained to me that if I was to sign up for a furnace maintenance plan he could knock off a big portion of the cost to install the ignitor. I agreed...and I'm glad I did. Today, 4/12/17 I had SunGlow come back out to service the furnace and clean it up after a long and cold winter. Guess who was my tech? Yep, Antonio. He remembered coming out the last time and asked if everything was still going okay. He explained very thoroughly what he was going to do when it came to the maintenance and made a recommendation on a surge protector to protect the control board inside the furnace. Though I declined he was not pushy at all and said to call back anything incase I change my mind. I get that the techs are probably required to cross-sell, but Antonio did it in a way that was not salesy at all...rather more informational. He had no problem with me watching him perform the service and asking a lot of questions. He performed the maintenance, checked the system, and cleaned up after. He's a very personable guy and I will definitely request Antonio to come out again for my next service. read more

They wouldn't give me an invoice to even explain what was included in the $150 visit. He didn't look under the house at all. This business sent out a political email ~30 days from midterms that claims the federal heat pump rebates don't actually exist. Attempts to scare people away from home energy audits by declaring there is a price involved but not further describing how it is a $139 fee (called in, their cost prior to posting this review) to cover the energy audit could save folks thousands on a heat pump, more money saved on other energy efficiency upgrades. The email also cited the requirement for the customer being at or below 80% AMI to qualify for the federal rebate in the Inflation Reduction Act. They did not elaborate on how 80% AMI is $85,200/yr in Washington County. They did not reference 80% AMI for any county. They only brought it up as a reason for why there "is no federal heat pump rebate". Would have paid cash and qualify for the heat pump rebate. Service is decent ... had to wait two weeks for a 30sec inspection ($139) and 15min $390 capacitor replacement ($60 part) though which is absurd. i get that they charge a set fee but $1407/hr is ridiculous for labour. customer service also = fair prices but they don't seem to care. will unlikely use again. read more

I was reading some of the reviews that got lower stars so I am happy to say I had a great experience. Jeff was my technician and he did a tune up for my HVAC system. It probably took about 100 minutes when it was all said and done. He was very thorough. He explained everything he did and pointed out some areas that he tightened up and even fixed. I was overdue for a tune up but overall things were looking good. Total cost was just under $400 but I also needed a filter which I had priced before and they don't mark them up as far as I can tell. Overall my experience was good. I don't feel like I was overcharged because they serviced my heat and my air conditioner and took care of some things that would have caused an issue in time but that's also the purpose of the tune up. With the cost of HVAC these days I will gladly pay this amount every year or two to keep things up and running smoothly. read more

I had a great experience with Sun Glow - as a matter of fact - reading the reviews shocks me . . . I have a hard time thinking it was the same company. The office people (including Vanessa) were polite and worked for my benefit in scheduling, rebate info, etc. Best of all is that I called 5 other companies - to replace a heat pump that had failed. Most of them had 5-8 week lead times saying they could not get the heat pump. Three bid on the exact same unit. (two of them said it was unavailable for weeks). Sun Glow was least expensive by far and they did the job with two days. Somehow they got the unavailable unit. Service men (Josh and Brandon) were competent and polite . . . cleaned up after themselves, made sure it was up, running well, and that I understood the specs and how it functioned. Sales .... great experience again. Steve was on time, bid was received right away (as opposed to my having to call others and ask where their bid was ). No hidden charges, he followed up with my HOA, submitted all insurances etc. in order to do the job within 2 business days of getting the contract signed. Steve called to follow up on the finished job - to ensure I was pleased. I am very satisfied and impressed with Sun Glow. As I count on these reviews often - I expect honest input - not hyperbole, or upsets that someone doesn't like something inconsequential to the job, or the company, or its employees. I was initially impressed with Sun Glow. My old wall furnace (only source of heat) went out a couple of days before Thanksgiving. They were quick to come out, diagnose and provide me with options. In the end, I upgraded to a mini split rather than fixing my old wall furnace. The install was done seamlessly, and I was left with a very good experience. Unfortunately, four months later while filing my taxes, I realized that I never received some crucial paper work to file for my energy credit. Upon reaching out to Sun Glow, they informed me that an intern had been working on my account and that she is no longer working there so they can't confirm if she sent the paper work. On top of that, they informed me that the city inspection hadn't been completed either. These dropped balls caused me significant delays in receiving my tax credit as the state's processing time on processing energy credit applications, which you need before you can file for your tax credit, is 11 weeks. Additionally, not completing an inspection could have had major implications down the road if left unnoticed. These were two very simple, but important tasks that Sun Glow failed to execute and that is why I'm leaving two stars. It's clear to me that once you've paid them, they no longer care about you as a customer. I was even thinking about calling them to do some more work, but now I will have to look elsewhere. read more

I am replying to the owner's post: Sorry, David, I thought the person I spoke to was the owner, I got that wrong. I understand that the part was faulty, but that was not the only thing that went wrong. It wasn't diagnosed as faulty at first, other things were done (I'm no HVAC person so I won't try to remember the technical terms) before they replaced several faulty parts from a third party. Those parts being faulty was not your fault, but like I said, there were other visits where things were added, then taken away, basically misdiagnosed a few times. All the while the CAC was a constant source of misery for everyone in my home. I did get a small part of the costs refunded, thank you. But for the many hours of being uncomfortable and the many visits.....is worth more than the money I got back. I added one star, but I can't in good conscience give you more. Everyone was very nice, I can definitely say that. But the AC problem and around 9 visits total are not just to blame on the TXV. That part was replaced 3 times over the course of 3 visits, but there were many more visits where they were not finding the actual problem but telling me it was fixed. I am nervous right now, because even though it is working since the last visit yesterday afternoon, I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to call again soon..... read more

I received a bill for $164 from Sun Glow. I understand the $89 service charge to come to my house but the extra $75 for showing my how to turn on my thermostat is excessive. The bill stated that the tech had to show me how to use the thermostat. Although the tech was polite and kind he didn't even know how to operate the thermostat. I had to get out the manual to help him. I called billing to ask that the bill be adjusted and but was told it sounded like I was upset because I had to pay the bill and thats just how they do things. I had Mike Guess come to my 100 year old home to give me an estimate for addinging air conditioning to the house and for potentially replacing a 28 year old furnace. I also need a consultation on our old ductwork and he was able to include abatement and new ductwork in the bid. The bid was very competetive and well organized. Mike took the time to explain everything to me and was very responsive to followup questions I sent (many). In the end we used another company. It was not because of anything negative about Sun Glow and Mike Guess. In fact it was a very challenging decision to make. I think we would have been very happy with the work they did for us and way they did the work. We own a 1906 home in SE Portland and have had our share of folks coming in and out to work on different things. So, trust us when we say that Sun Glow set the bar for the BEST experience we've had so far. We called at 9am in the throes of Snowpocalypse '17 (10+ins. overnight) as our gas furnace had stopped working since 6pm the night before. The house was 43 degrees and even our Border Collie was cold. Sam answered our call and immediately understood our situation. She said she'd reach out to a tech she believed was in the area. With everyone's furnace working overtime, we had little hope of seeing anyone that same day. 45 minutes hadn't passed when the phone rings and Sam lets us know a tech is coming and should arrive within 10 minutes. WHAT!?! What magical service is this?!? Sure enough, within 10 minutes Ken pulls up and comes out of the van (which had chained tires) in a total snow getup. He wasn't messing around. He looked at the furnace and within 2 minutes realized we had a busted igniter. We replaced the igniter (he had an extra in the truck), replaced the filter (I'm embarrassed at how dirty ours was. My wife gave me the "I told you to change this three months ago" look), and learned a ton about maintaining our unit. Sam and Ken were true professionals. I'll definitely be coming back to them in the future and will sing their praises from the snowy hilltops of Mt Tabor. The day before the 8" of snow hit my heater died. I called around people were telling me $200 to look at it and it would be next week. Called Sun Glow and heard the price and they could do it next day. Then we got the snow, I expected them to close as no one was driving, they showed up on time. We are home owners of a 1910 house in Montavilla. Long before we moved in, the old oil furnace had been converted into a gas furnace. Recently the pilot light went out and I was unable to find/light it because of the awkward conversion. I called Sun Glow and the very same day Cory came out and was AMAZING! He was also surprised at how difficult it was to even see the burner! He quickly took a few things apart and masterfully re-lit the pilot light and reinstalled everything. We even discussed how I could do this in the future should a back draft put the pilot out again. The price was MORE that fair. I know because I called around. Extremely shady business! They ripped my parents off. On the furnace it says "call for free estimate" so my dad called them to take a look at the furnace because it was heating slowly, especially when the temperate was below freezing outside. They came by spent around 10 minutes for the so called "diagnostic" and charged $89.99 for diagnostic fee! The tech automatically knew that everything was fine and the furnace only needed a tune-up. Since the problem they said was that the furnace needs a "tune-up" so they cleaned the flame senor and air filter and left a bill totaling $134, while recommended a tune-up service for $169, with air filter replacement! Then why did you clean the air filter genius? I called other businesses in the area and most of them quoted me between 89.99-99.99 for tune-up, not $169! When I called them about the charges the person on the phone got very defensive and was telling me that they barley make any profit and the 89.99 diagnostic fees is for the cost of gas, auto insurance, and tech's pay. She was also telling me that prices for everything has done up since last year and they are priced lower then their competition. Gas prices are down 30-40% from last year! She told me that the manager is currently busy and will call me back soon, however he never called back! Very typical of a shady business. Why do they advertise free estimate on the furnace and on their website? Does this business like talking advantage of people? So They fixed a defective circuit board from my mini split that another company was unable to diagnose AND they got the part covered under warranty for me which saved $200-300. Another company came and wasn't able to diagnose the problem, they told me I should contact who installed the unit. Which is why I contacted sun glow. There are a couple issues I had with them. 1. The first company that came told me the wrong type of wires were installed on the unit that are recommended by the manufacturer. Sun glow told me they are the right wire, but they don't do they wiring when they install a unit, the electrician does. So they wouldn't have done anything about it anyway. To me thAt seems weird that you install a unit and contract your own electrician to use but then don't back up their work... 2. My biggest issue with sun glow is that they charged me $369 just to diagnose the problem. Then another $820 in labor to replace the circuit board. Just seems like I should have gotten a discount on the labor since I paid so much just to get a diagnosis. But am I a happy customer? Well, it has been working well for about a month and both technicians I encountered were great! But with the questionable wrong wires installed it makes me wonder if that is the reason the 2-year old circuit board gave out in the first place. Despite the haters who clearly did not understand what was going on, I had the best experience EVER with Sun Glow. After making several phone calls to various air conditioning installers (included the dreaded Home Depot), and being told "the earliest we can come out is 3-4 weeks from now - for an estimate only", I was beginning to feel depressed. It seemed as though my family and I would have to "tough out" the heat wave through most of the summer before even getting on the schedule for an estimate. Desperate and our of options, and after lamenting about my predicament, one of my clients recommended Sun Glow Inc. and I decided to try them (I had never heard of them before). To my great surprise, they picked up right away and informed me they could come out the NEXT DAY for an estimate! Their estimate came back $1k LESS than Home Depot's phone estimate, and they came to install my brand new air conditioning unit on the second business day after that. So chronologically, it went - phone call on Wednesday, estimate on Thursday, Air Conditioning installed and ready to go the following Monday. Fantastic! Especially since every day was over 90 degrees and time was of the essence. Their service was also very professional and courteous, I got updates from the guys during the day when they were installing and I was at work, they left my house in perfect shape (no residue or dirt tracked anywhere, everything put back the way it was, etc.) I honestly could not believe that this wasn't THE premier company in Portland for air conditioning yet. Do yourself a favor - if you are like me and can't stand this heat and are in desperate need of air conditioning, call Sun Glow and see how fast and inexpensive it is. This is my first Yelp! review and I'm disappointed that it has to be negative. I've emailed Chris at SunGlow regarding the concerns and issues I've had with their service and have heard nothing. There were issues with scheduling, showing up late and the final straw performing services that were NOT needed. I feel that their technicians are trained to automatically milk customers for as much money as possible, without fixing the issue. Had another company come provide a quote and was told that ALL the "troubleshooting" done by SunGlow was a waste of time and compromised the performance of my a/c unit. This company sent a technician to repair my A/C. After a long diagnosis, he said the coils needed to be replaced, refrigerant needed to be drained and filtered clean, the pipe needed to be reconnected etc. Other components were still good - the capacitor was fine. His price quote was a shocker - $1,600. He then advised me to buy a new A/C. The company sent a salesman. His price was $4,400. I called another HVAC company. It sent a technician to do a diagnosis. After less than 15 minutes, he replaced the bad capacitor. It was that simple. And my A/C was back at work. Total part and labor were $400. If you want to pay less, shop more. Been with no heat for the past 4 days ... over the holiday season is NOT the time to call for service. But, we did ... cost about $1k to fix a pressure sensor and controller board issue, but had to be done. What kills me is that OEM pressure sensor is ~$50 & the OEM controller board is ~$202. A service that should've have cost no more than $500 in my opinion. The service cost was outrageous, but the the tech (Max) was very open and thorough in his trouble-shooting the issue. Top notch service tech(5 stars), but the company needs to think about controlling the service prices. read more

They installed my gas furnace in December 2002 which just broke down badly. The furnace was expected to last 20-25 or more years and needed this major repair at the 15 year mark after meticulous maintenance. Factors: 1. Carrier was using inferior materials in their heat exchangers that would prematurely rust out. The furnace was actually only getting about 1/2 the cold air it required. Sun Glow didn't seem forthcoming or honest so employed 2 separate/additional techs. Sun Glow didn't mention the problem with the cold air return. The 2 other techs did. When I spoke with the Sun Glow tech, he told me that the secondary heat exchanger was bad and that I may as well do the primary at the same time if I wanted to repair. The secondary was completely covered under Bryant's enhanced warranty but only parts were covered for the primary. He advised against repair because the unit is 15 years old. They gave me a $1,050 price to replace heat exchangers. I asked the service manager why the price was so high. She told me it's because the primary and secondary heat exchangers were 2 separate parts and only the secondary was covered under the enhanced warranty. The primary hadn't failed yet and the secondary is a warranty replacement for both parts and labor. I explained that the parts are actually screwed to each other as one unit. I questioned why they were charging me full price to do a job that they were essentially doing already. The service manager was short and irritated, she told me I was wrong and that I didn't understand, then changed her story saying that they just use a service manual to determine time it takes to do a job. She said if I decided to proceed with the $1,050 repair she would order parts then and they could install Tuesday morning. They're charging Carrier/Bryant to do the secondary, and me in full to do the primary even though it's little to arguably no extra work to do the primary at the same time. She advised against repair and that I have the unit replaced. She pushed for having one of their sales people out to get me a quote for replacement. More on that below. I called Tuesday to tell her I wanted the secondary replaced, she told me she couldn't do it and that it wasn't safe. After much disagreement, she told me she would check to see if she was even able to have the secondary replaced. I asked her to call me back when she had checked. She then told me that if I changed my mind and wanted to have both replaced, I should call her back. I told her I won't be replacing the primary and again asked her to check and see if she could do the secondary alone and call me back. This went back and forth 2-3 more times where it was clear that her intentions were set on selling me a $1,050 repair I didn't need or a new furnace. She finally agreed to see if they were aloud to replace the secondary heat exchanger alone since we know the primary has not failed. She called me back about an hour or 2 later and told me that they could replace the secondary alone although she STRONGLY advised against it. When I asked her when she could replace it, her story of timeline changed drastically. Monday she told me to do both for $1,050 and she could have it finished Tuesday morning. On Tuesday she said that she wouldn't be able to get parts to do the free warranty repair until Friday morning. The Comfort Specialist (salesman) came out Monday afternoon and gave me pricing information about replacement. The quote came with unnecessary hidden markups including a $155 surge protector (I accidentally found the cost of this built into their bid), and a freeze free condensate removal system (furnace is in a heated basement). The pricing quote specifically quoted reconnecting to existing duct work, neglecting to say anything about fixing the cold air return system from their initial install. The sales guy called me to give me the details on the pricing information. I told him the pricing seemed pretty high. He said they had financing options. The first option was at 6% APR, I said no way. The next option he gave me was at 0% APR. Funny how he offered the high interest rate loan before the 0% APR loan. I told him I was still considering repair. He advised against repair since the furnace was 16 years old and that I shouldn't be upset with Carrier, my furnace died because these things wear out. He told me that Carrier's extensive research team were the only reason anyone learned that the part wore out prematurely (untrue, see link above). If this were a budget or standard brand furnace, 15 years would be an OK (not good) life of the furnace. This isn't a budget/standard brand furnace. This premium furnace was sold as top of the line and marketed as a furnace that would easily last 20-30 years. Find a trustworthy contractor. read more

I had a problem with my air ducts. I was told by another company that i need to replace the air ducts as they were rusted & had holes. I contacted Sun Glow, They promptly came out & inspected & said the air ducts were in very good condition & they did not need replaced.
