Coriander Fish Filet Rice Noodle Roll
    Ellen H.

I ordered take out from this restaurant at 12:30 p.m. on a Saturday. I knew the restaurant would be busy so I called in to place the order first. I arrived 35 minutes later and still had to wait another 10 minutes before the food was ready. The server seemed a bit impatient when I asked when the food would be ready and, instead of replying to my question, she went about serving other customers. I ordered Shiitake Chicken Rice (wanted a steam rice to avoid greasy food), minced beef congee, and Coriander Fish Filet Rice Noodle Roll. The taste of the food was average and the quality below my expectation. Because the restaurant is always packed in the weekends, I expected better tasting food. The steamed rice was very bland if I did not add in the soy sauce, there was also a lot of rice and not much meat and mushroom. The beef congee was the best amongst the three dishes, it was tasty and satisfying. I was surprised that the fish filet in the rice noodle roll was deep fried, it had a stale taste. Many of the customers came for dim sum and happy hour special. The advantage of ordering from such a restaurant is the turnover is good and the food should stay fresh. However, I am quite disappointed with this visit.

We came on a Sunday at around 11:00am. We got the beef tendons ($8.95), salty egg yolk steamed buns ($ 7.95), deep fried shrimp and pork dumplings ($7.50), rice rolls and egg with meat ($9.25), chicken feet and pork ribs in claypot rice ($8.25) and beef with pan fried crispy noodle ($26.95). Each person gets charged $1.5 for tea. The beef tendon portion is huge. It's pretty soft and not chewy. The flavour is good Salty egg yolk steamed buns the salty egg yolk was not overly sweet. It was salty and smooth. But the bun wasn't very good. Not fluffy enough. The deep fried shrimp and pork dumplings were really delicious. It was really crispy AND crunchy. The inside was chewy and the filling was delicious. I would get this again The rice rolls and egg with meat portion was huge. The rice rolls weren't smooth enough and no rice fragrance. Flavour was okay. Wouldn't get this again The chicken feet and pork ribs in claypot rice was not very good. The pork ribs were soft but not enough meat on the bone. The rice was not good quality. Wouldn't get this again. The beef with crispy noodle was pretty good. It was a bit too oily but there was a lot of beef and the noodles were crispy. Overall the flavours were okay. Not overly salty with too much msg. The price was not bad. You get 10% off dimsum everyday. If you get the bill before 11am you get the tea money saved off the cheque. I would come back for the 2:30-5:30 special which is 1.99 egg tarts and 2.99 French toast.

First visit this one on Victoria Dr., not like the one in Richmond offer HK style western food. Chinese combo from 2-5 people $49.95-$110.95 includes rice but no soup!

Our favorite was the durian gluten balls. It was filled with fresh durian flavored custards. The egg tarts were petite but packed with a lot of custard and flavor too. INTERIOR It felt familiar and nostalgic walking into the restaurant to seeing so many traditional Chinese characters and red/gold decorations. The bathrooms were all genders so that was convenient. SERVICE Staff was fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. They were attentive, helpful, and inquisitive of where we were from. RECOMMEND? Yes! Tasty and cheaper than other dim sum places I researched.

This place is pricier than typical Chinese restaurants imo, and like other reviews, was bland, but again in the safer part of the area. We did ask for chili and vinegar. They didn't have the dim sum carts which is why we came, so we ordered from the menu. The seafood fried rice was better when we added condiments. The plain look funn is what you'd expect. Mushroom dimsum stuck to the basket and ripped apart when I tried to remove it from the basket. The fried squid was good w the spicy dipping sauce they paired it with. The total was a little over $80.

Wow, this place is a GEM, I am so in love with the Rolls, I visited 2 days in a row, had to get…read moresome more rolls in before we leave BC, which was so sad! Hei Hei Rice Roll is legit good, totally recommend, even my daughter too, I thought of her ( since she LOVES rice roll and couldn't make it on this trip with me) while enjoying these roll but when I shared with her the photos and mention that we will go back here with her- she already visited. She said it was so good! Hei Hei Rice Roll is located at the Richmond Public Market, oh wow - this place is really popular, on the 2nd visit I was the first in line then the line wasn't so long but while waiting for our order, the line got super long. I was lucky I didn't wait long in line. Best to arrive early. I am not sure what the secret to the rice roll but Wow, it's so thin, silky, smooth texture with the toppings, so great together. The last 2 times we had rice roll with my daughter at Portland and Seattle- followed per Instagram reels- those did not even compare to these rolls. My first visit I got the combo which is the best deals, starts at $15.50 but depends on what you select for the selection for rice rolls and congee. I got the pork & preserved egg congee, shrimp, mushroom, pork rice roll. The 2nd visit I got the combo again, with liver & preserved egg congee, scallop and shrimp rice rolls, but I got my order wrong for the roll- they missed the shrimp. fyi-I found out that bean sprout, corn, toppings are free! Both combo came out to $17. super cheap! Cash only, they take USD but its the same dollar $ value. I wish they take credit cards, hehe. & the Verdict: Yummy, the congee hits the spot for comfort food, loved how it is cooked and they add peanuts too. Love the packet of sauce for the rice rolls, the umami-ness, so good. Best to eat it hot and fresh! Don't forget to ask for chili sauce, to add that extra spicy kick! For now, I am not sure I'll ever find a spot that is closest to Hei Hei for my congee and rice roll fix until I get to visit Richmond, BC again.
