Service was horrible. should have known from all the handwritten signs with policies. It started with the hostess feeling put out to seat us at our table. We were then greeted by one of the waitresses that started talking our order and was interrupted by two other waitresses arguing over whose table it was. We ended up with a different waitress who had to write our order on her hand and took 15 min to get our check to us. Staff was cussing and yelling across the restaurant at each other. This place was great! The food was delicious and fresh and the staff was awesome. We sat at the bar, which is huge, and got a variety of appetizers and the seafood boil special. The prices were really reasonable considering it's fresh seafood. Everything was very clean and well kept. After eating at the Corpus Christi location I decided to try this restaurant. It was a bit different. Food was similar in taste but I had a few issues. The appetizer of the crab over cajon fries was lukewarm when served and the fries were less than in flavor. The boiling pot, similar to the one in Corpus, came with only two potatoes and two pieces of corn for two people. At the CC restaurant we had an abundance of both. The shrimp wasn't very good although sausage was excellent. The men's restroom was a disaster area. Toilet paper, paper towels, filthy floors, and an unpleasant odor greeted me when I walked in. The CC restaurant had waiting area as it was so popular. The SA location had very few people for the lunch crowd. The food is good enough to enjoy but overall the place needs work. read more

The crab boils an spice level an flavor complimented each other well . Our server his name was Troy or Trey he was hands down the best server we've ever had anywhere . I ordered the half and half meal which I received shrimp and flounder. When I picked my meal up I got two flounder tenders and 4 shrimp with a lot of french fries. Not only did the tarter sauce taste very tangy the cocktail sauce seemed like it had been in the freezer and was thawed out for the night. When I put a shrimp in the sauce I could barely put it into the sauce. It seemed like the sides were very thick...moving from side to side while trying to dip into it. It was disgusting and when I finally found a sauce that the shrimp would actually dip into...it was marinara sauce.‍ I will not be recommending this spot to my family or friends. Me and my husband used to come here all the time when i was pregnant and loved it . we haven't been in a while since i had my baby and wanted to go yesterday. our waiter started acting so weird when we wanted to order a alcohol beverage and he asked for my husbands ID and my husband gave it to him no problem, he told my husband "are you okay you seem really nervous". we tried ordering and he ignored us just standing there , walked away from us,went on his phone right there in front of us ignoring us when we told him what we wanted and that'll be it . and after he had already checked his ID he then asks for it again and takes it to the bar. this man was older not young and had to do the math for his ID and then asks someone else to look at it ? ridiculous and incompetent.I didn't bring my wallet because my husband was paying and was fine with not getting served alcohol and i even told him that after he told us "you are a young couple with a baby" which he had no reason to say that and he was very rude, out of line. he had a hat on and a beard and his hair is on the longer side. i've never had an experience like this before i only wish i got it on video. we used to love this place but will not be going back . read more

We reserved the private party room for 15 guests to get there and be told we would have to share the room with other guests. The manager Frank whom we spoke with multiple times completely FORGOT he said we would be able to have the private room as it was a Sunday and spring break and he would NEVER agree to that. We came in a big group (9 people) and were seated very quickly. We had oysters as an appetizer and they were very good. All the boiled seafood was great and steaming hot ! Our server was very fast and super friendly , she even helped up with some directions to a local haunted spot since we are visiting from out of town. So I was just denied service after going to receive my final check from Surfing Crab San Antonio. If you want to know the backstory to why I quit I have attached my final message to my work group chat. Everything I said is true. I simply said that I would like to be paid $12 while many other companies pay their food runners aroudn there and higher. I had been working for 8 months already and only received one raise while having complete knowledge on the restaurant and knowing many positions from host,serving, barbacking and food running. I hardly ever called off and took the most shifts out of my colleagues. The fact that I wanted to eat after I got my final check and was told that I was "no longer welcomed" by the manager I called an old pervert, which he is, is just telling of his petty immature and unprofessional behavior. Thought we would try this place for lunch today. Reviews are good. The food wasn't bad; but wasn't Cajun. I have spent a lot of time in New Orleans and had a lot of Cajun food. We had the Jumbo Shrimp basket. The fries were plentiful with very little seasoning, they were crisp and good; but not Cajun. The shrimp was cooked in a tempura like batter and though the shrimp was cooked well the breading was not crispy and fell off. The beer was cold. We will not go back. I was so hoping for a great seafood place with reasonable prices. I was so disappointed. I ordered from their "Get your hands dirty" menu options. I ordered a half pound of headless shrimp, a half pound of sausage, a half pound of king crab. I asked if they had crawfish and I was told yes so I ordered a half pound of crawfish. I was advised afterward that the king crab only came in 1 pound portions so I opted for that. I knew that there would be much more than I could eat in one sitting but I was hoping for leftovers. The menu item comes with corn and potatoes. I cannot rate the potatoes because I didn't eat any. The corn was WAY over cooked and mushy. The crawfish were completely inedible (I asked later if they were frozen and told they were) and I advised my server that they were inedible. The crab was very good as were the shrimp. The sausage had a good flavor and the spice level was lower than I expected (I ordered medium but it was mild at most). There are much better places for seafood if this was a good representation of what to expect. read more

The food was good but not great. FYI make sure you look at your receipt before you leave. There were 5 adults and a 1 year old at the table so they charged us gratuity. Every time I've gone to a restaurant it clearing stats gratuity and at what percentage. Well not Surfing Crab, they try to be sneaking about it. On the bottom of your receipt it just says charge and it's include with the subtotal and the taxes so it's easy to miss. And then when they run your card and give you the receipt to sign, it shows recommended tip amounts. So I left a tip because I wasn't aware that we were already being charged gratuity. ***So FYI pay attention to the receipt and make sure they don't try to be sneaky with you too*** read more

It's an interesting decor with plenty of tv's, do it yourself art on the walls, and modestly volumed music in the background I could still hold a conversation. Besides the usual(shrimp, crab, crawfish, and fish), I appreciated how they have interesting additions like egg rolls(delicious), fried rice(outstanding), and Po boys which I didn't get to try. While Waiting for our food, which took about 20 min. To come out, I noticed that this establishment had us prepared to.throw.DOWN! There was a huge roll of paper towels, Surfin crab waste basket, a newspaper table cover, wipes and bibs to protect us from crabs splashing around the table. Our server was polite and helpful with some helpful suggestions. I had the half n half(2 fried catfish filets & 6 fried jumbo shrimp usually served with fries but I subbed with fried rice) my wife ordered the shrimp n sausage boil with liquid Gold...whoops I mean garlic butter and Old Bay seasoning. As a new restaurant that's serving seafood in the middle of winter I had my doubts. Surfing Crab surely didn't disappoint. We started off with edamame and raw oysters. Edamame was slightly overcooked but the Oysters were HUGE and delicious. We also got a lunch special, combo #2 with shrimp and black mussels, and the house special sauce on it and it was delicious. We were scooping the sauce to get more onto our seafood, and ended with a chocolate lava cake. Food was delicious, our server Will was friendly and hilarious.
