I've been frequenting this gem for years! It's clean, the ambiance is cozy and the service is always great! Today, I decided to write a review because I had a new experience. I usually get a seaweed salad and spicy edamame to start and one or two special rolls to finish. Today, I wanted to think twice about the heavy feel. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered with Chris. We talked about our favorites and why. I believe the why's are important. I started off with my seaweed salad and a glass of Pinot Noir. It was an interesting pair in the beginning, but eventually complimented my pallet. After the salad, I chose the Finding Nemo. It did not have rice and I loved that about it. It was light and straight to the point. I was able to taste and enjoy all of the fresh fish inside. I wish I took a picture but I was too busy enjoying! I will definitely get that every time I go now. Then Chris recommended the yellowtail carpaccio. Goodness. It was simply perfect. This time, I was able to take a picture. Everything complimented each other. He listened to what I described as a few of my favorites and enticed me with this new staple. It was yellowtail in a bed of yuzu sauce, topped with garlic chips and truffle salt. DELICIOUS! Overall, always a 10/10 at Sushi Ai! read more

The rolls here are very fresh!! We had the Seared Albacore with Truffle Roll and the Finding Nemo roll. The albacore with the truffle was so delicious and a nice little left turn with the umami from the truffle, not your everyday sushi roll but soooooo good! The Finding Nemo roll was also very good. The staff was quick with the service and the vibes were good on a Friday afternoon. Overall great little spot for a quick takeout of some very good sushi. read more

Dropping a star today! So bummed! Take out/delivery order and my Fire Roll was plain...meaning that they didn't add spicy Mayo nor other sauces like the picture shows on their site. Wait! A couple of drops were noticed on top and a nice brown clear soy sauce based liquid at the bottom. Not a big deal, right? But when you call and the answer is, yes, they added sauce. No, they didn't. Then I was told that they don't add a lot of it because the roll gets soggy. Then please send some on the side. He then asked if I wanted to pick some up. No, I can't drive out there. SMH! Food is always great here but customer service was a big no-no, today. I'm supporting local Long Beach businesses and I expect a little more courtesy. read more

So excited that I found my new favorite local suchi spot in my new neighborhood! Sushi Ai was recommended to us (bf and I) by a friend who is always there for his date night. Not only are the sushi rolls delicious and visually pleasing, but the decor and ambiance is also really nice. My first two rolls that I tried here were the Yuzu Koshu with Halibut and Crazy Roll. They were both incredibly delicious. The Yuzu roll had a great spice to it and came hot on the skillet. The Crazy Roll is huge and very filling. Good taste and texture with a little spice as well. There is plenty of street parking around the area. The bathrooms are kept clean and the service was great! I can't wait to come back and try the other rolls. read more

Ambience is an old school sushi bar vibe and I highly recommend sitting at the bar so you can chat with the chefs and maybe if it's slow you'll get a couple of on the house tasters like we did. CAUTION!!! Sushi night out, turned for the worst. Wife and I love sushi, first time here last night. Service was superb, Dinning location was well set. She had mentioned a roll with shrimp tasted like soap, we thought just a twist on taste buds. We stopped eating due to wife not feeling well immediately, shes a lady so she held it down til we arrived home and threw it all up. I decided to write this review at 3am same night with disgust to sushi and shame of what we spent was not worth the night out. I called restaraunt, after arriving home and tending to the disaster wife experienced, to hopefully help others avoid the same experience asking them to make sure their shrimp or something of the 7 items we ordered was in good condition to be used. I understand maybe the lack of staff may have played a part in this, maybe due to pandemic. I only hope they checked, becaused they said manager would return my call and did not hopefully busy correcting said food situation. I write reviews only when experience was awesome and a must, or when trying to save the public from a bad experience. We really wanted to like this place and make it part of our rotation, but this has made the AVOID list for us. read more

Came in last night to try and your food was very delicious!!! Just one thing, or should I say one person , the environment between sushi chefs and servers was toxic. The people next to us noticed as well. All of your servers were super nice and gave us great service. But your sushi chef (small guy with glasses and gel'ed hair) was a straight up douche to the servers. I felt so bad for the servers because they looked so tense. The Chef would barely put the food on his bar and scream to the servers to take out the order in an aggressive tone. Like I get it, your stressed out, but that doesn't mean to take out all of your anger on your coworkers. I work at a Sushi Restaurant as well but you don't see me being an asshole to my coworkers because of stress!? Again, if you work there and read this Im so sorry you have to deal with that. Either the owner should talk to him about being professional, or you guys should get out of there. read more
