Dropping a star today! So bummed! Take out/delivery order and my Fire Roll was plain...meaning that they didn't add spicy Mayo nor other sauces like the picture shows on their site. Wait! A couple of drops were noticed on top and a nice brown clear soy sauce based liquid at the bottom. Not a big deal, right? But when you call and the answer is, yes, they added sauce. No, they didn't. Then I was told that they don't add a lot of it because the roll gets soggy. Then please send some on the side. He then asked if I wanted to pick some up. No, I can't drive out there. SMH! Food is always great here but customer service was a big no-no, today. I'm supporting local Long Beach businesses and I expect a little more courtesy. read more

Decent sushi restaurant in the heart of Long Beach 2nd Street. The service was awesome, for the location and the smaller size, they had 4 waitresses working a Friday evening! That was a lot. Stopped on in with some friends for early dinner. I had the $18.95 sushi dinner which had 6-7 pieces of nigiri sushi and California rolls and spicy tuna rolls. So excited that I found my new favorite local suchi spot in my new neighborhood! Sushi Ai was recommended to us (bf and I) by a friend who is always there for his date night. Not only are the sushi rolls delicious and visually pleasing, but the decor and ambiance is also really nice. My first two rolls that I tried here were the Yuzu Koshu with Halibut and Crazy Roll. They were both incredibly delicious. The Yuzu roll had a great spice to it and came hot on the skillet. The Crazy Roll is huge and very filling. Good taste and texture with a little spice as well. There is plenty of street parking around the area. The bathrooms are kept clean and the service was great! I can't wait to come back and try the other rolls. read more

As a sushi expert I haven't found a quality spot in Long Beach these guys know exactly what they are doing. Fish quality is exceptional look forward to coming back. Omg how did i barely find this place out? The place is small but the energy and flavor and ambiance is big! I tried the Nemo roll, oh my that One is definitely a favorite. Also the shashimi peppers are to die for! We ordered them 3 times! Definitely a cool place to chill & talk and catch up with old friends, i went on a Saturday evening so once you're outside you see others adding to the vibe when stepping out. CAUTION!!! Sushi night out, turned for the worst. Wife and I love sushi, first time here last night. Service was superb, Dinning location was well set. She had mentioned a roll with shrimp tasted like soap, we thought just a twist on taste buds. We stopped eating due to wife not feeling well immediately, shes a lady so she held it down til we arrived home and threw it all up. I decided to write this review at 3am same night with disgust to sushi and shame of what we spent was not worth the night out. I called restaraunt, after arriving home and tending to the disaster wife experienced, to hopefully help others avoid the same experience asking them to make sure their shrimp or something of the 7 items we ordered was in good condition to be used. I understand maybe the lack of staff may have played a part in this, maybe due to pandemic. I only hope they checked, becaused they said manager would return my call and did not hopefully busy correcting said food situation. I write reviews only when experience was awesome and a must, or when trying to save the public from a bad experience. We really wanted to like this place and make it part of our rotation, but this has made the AVOID list for us. read more

Literally my favorite sushi spot ever!! I will go there every time I'm craving food because not only is the food spot on every time, but service is as well! I love everything about Sushi Ai and will continue to get the baked mussels, sashimi, and all of their rolls. Great place if you just want to sit and relax and enjoy some really good sushi, and it is especially great for kids! Would 100% reccomend. read more

Wow, what a gem! Don't be fooled if it's not very busy. Ambience is an old school sushi bar vibe and I highly recommend sitting at the bar so you can chat with the chefs and maybe if it's slow you'll get a couple of on the house tasters like we did. The fish is such high quality and a good value! I never leave reviews but this place was worth it! Friendly service too. read more

Came in last night to try and your food was very delicious!!! Just one thing, or should I say one person , the environment between sushi chefs and servers was toxic. The people next to us noticed as well. All of your servers were super nice and gave us great service. But your sushi chef (small guy with glasses and gel'ed hair) was a straight up douche to the servers. I felt so bad for the servers because they looked so tense. The Chef would barely put the food on his bar and scream to the servers to take out the order in an aggressive tone. Like I get it, your stressed out, but that doesn't mean to take out all of your anger on your coworkers. I work at a Sushi Restaurant as well but you don't see me being an asshole to my coworkers because of stress!? Again, if you work there and read this Im so sorry you have to deal with that. Either the owner should talk to him about being professional, or you guys should get out of there. read more

My empty salad bowl and soup bowl sat on my table, water was empty needing to be refilled, I wanted to order another roll but at that point was under a time crunch. It was a frustrating situation. My waitress did apologize and seemed sincere. Apparently there was a problem with the shipping the restaurant received that day and she was on the phone with their supplier which pulled her away. She offered a soda or dessert on the house but because of my time crunch I didn't have time for that and the extra roll. Again perhaps it was an off day I came. The space was good. The tuna crispy rice was fantastic and a little different from the usual presentation. Perfect crisp on the outside, almost caramelized, with really airy spicy tuna on top that reminded me more of a tartare texture than the heavier versions you sometimes get elsewhere. We also had bluefin tuna, toro, salmon sashimi, a spicy scallop roll, and the Extreme Crunch Roll with light eel sauce, which ended up being surprisingly balanced and not over-the-top despite the name. Even the iced green tea stood out. Bright green, almost cloudy, super refreshing, and honestly exactly what I wanted with sushi. Service was excellent both visits. It felt very team-oriented behind the sushi bar and on the floor, which kept everything moving smoothly without feeling rushed. A couple practical notes: parking is easy overall, but the lot is shared with the motel, so just be mindful where you park and try to stay closer toward the restaurant side of the lot. Also, this feels much better suited for couples or small groups than large parties. Four people would be ideal. Six is probably pushing it unless the restaurant is unusually quiet. Really happy we gave this place another shot because it ended up being one of the more satisfying sushi dinners we've had in a while.

We stopped and looked at Sushi Ai's menu and the prices for sushi were comparably lower than other sushi places we have eaten at. A couple practical notes: parking is easy overall, but the lot is shared with the motel, so just be mindful where you park and try to stay closer toward the restaurant side of the lot.
