While the sushi here can not be described as amazing, I would say that the price point makes it a decent option for the AYCE option. They are a little too liberal with that eel sauce. However, when I asked for the next roll to not include it, they obliged and the taste was way better without it, but definitely plainer looking. Their tempura is not as cooked as I'd like it to be, but well battered. Their tempura shrimp is definitely above average. However, they only give 1 shrimp per assortment of mixed veggie tempuras at a time. My family didn't want that so we literally ordered a side of tempura shrimp so we wouldn't have to eat like 20 tempura veggies just to eat a bit of shrimp. I don't eat sashimi, but my family that does says the sashimi add on was very fresh and well worth the add-on price. The AYCE menu does not include other things, so the non-seafood eater in our party ordered a beef teriyaki. To be honest...that was a really bad dish. When we first arrived, it was pretty empty. After receiving our drinks, it took about 15min for 1 out of the 2 servers to take our order. Food- 3/5 - the tempura was tasty, the chicken katsu had the katsu sauce on top of it so my kids didn't want to eat it. The fish seemed ok, salmon was a little "fishy" Service- 2/5 - I usually don't let things bother me, but the servers were different from the normal Japanese servers. They weren't very tactful, a little blunt, and sometimes nice. Ambiance- 4/5- I like it. Overall- I tried to leave to head to another restaurant, but because it was 6pm on Mother's Day, we decided to stay and to give it a shot. Sushi Shack used to be one of those places I would love to go to, since they delivered great AYCE sushi at such a great price. I'm sad to say that my few most recent visits have not brought me the same kind of excitement and joy that I first had when discovering this place. Back in 2016-2017, the sushi quality was great and there was a perfect rice to fish/filling content on the rolls. However, now the rolls have a lot more rice, which only serves to fill you up. When there's a lot of rice and not much sushi, it can get tiring to feel like you're just stuffing yourself up. Shocked by how we were greeted here... it was our first time in and wanted to look around and at the menu before being seated, so we grabbed a take-out menu from the front desk and glanced at it and around the restaurant. A woman (later found out she was the manager) "greeted" us by standing in the middle of the restaurant, and yelled at us while throwing her hand up saying "what are you looking for?????" We were shocked by this greeting but calmly responded saying we had never been here before and just wanted to look around before we were seated. This was immediately off-putting and noticed other customers reacted similarly to us...shocked and one laughed in disbelief. The staff all stared at us after that like we were unwelcome so we left soon after. Why would we stay at that point? We called the restaurant right after leaving to speak with a manager to bring awareness to the situation. The manager replied lying about what had occurred, saying it was herself that greeted us and that none of that happened. Not an ounce of honesty, empathy, or willingness to redeem the situation she created. Would absolutely not recommend this place and deserves less than 1 star, strictly based on this experience. For this place I would say you get what you paid for. It's good for a cheap lunch meal, but quality wise I wouldn't say it's there. I stopped by this place twice in the last 2 weeks and I would say my experience have been the same. Both times I ate their lunch all you can eat special. They have a lot of options available for their sushi however most are non traditional, with them being either deep fried, filled with cream cheese, or just weird toppings (spam, pork, beef, ...?). Not to say theyre bad, but I don't really care for them. They're service is nice enough with they're servers masked up but the chefs don't wear masks mostly (I found that kind of weird). The 2 star is because of the food. I found their tempura calamari really weird. As seen in the picture below, one order is 3 minuscule pieces which is really odd. And almost all of the sushi I order are wrapped the worst I have ever seen in any restaurant. I am normally pretty good with chopsticks however their sushi falls apart every time I try to pick it up. I don't know what they're doing wrong but it's a reoccurring problem. I see tables around us resort to just using they're hands because of this issue. I don't really like their unconventional rolls as they're really odd and the fact that anything "spicy" means that they will add a thick line of Siracha on top the roll is unappealing. I went today with my husband after hearing Sushi Shack went back to all you can eat. My husband and I ordered four rolls and within minutes I began to feel sick. The "fresh" sushi is not cold and makes me think the seafood is sitting out. The deep fried sushi has a distinct dirty grease trap taste. If the taste isn't enough to stop you from eating here, the grease that coats your mouth will. As for the hygiene, the table next to us left and was immediately sat. They did not care to wipe down the table. The server quickly drops off the plates of sushi and rushed away. I was disappointed before, even caught food poisoning from here before, so it's my fault at this point for trying them again. If you do not have a sensitive stomach and you don't mind to take the risk, then please be my guest. The AYCE lunch is $16 per person and the AYCE dinner is $25 per person. My wife and I got the all you can eat option, and let me tell you, there isn't much to like about it. I'll start with the good first: pretty good service and it's a nice cozy atmosphere. The sushi overall tastes decent, and fresh as far as we can tell. Now for the critiques: 1) There are very limited options for kitchen items/hot foods. If you're okay with not having those, then this won't bother you as much. Most other AYCE places we've been too have things like baked scallops or baked salmon. Some places with have teriyaki beef, shrimp, and chicken. Sushi shack only had limited tempura with only chicken teriyaki. The miso soup we ordered was warm to room temperature, which makes not tastes as good. 2) Sushi/sashimi were not under the AYCE list, but instead you had to pay and extra $1 for each piece you ordered. The rolls themselves were pretty simple, as in, almost all of them (including special rolls) were just a combo of crab meat with salmon, tuna, or yellowtail. There is no true special roll; aka, rolls with 2 or more fish in one roll. 3) NO DESSERT!! Every other AYCE place offers at least some ice cream at the very least. They don't offer any dessert period. Overall, I wouldn't come back again. But it's IMPORTANT for me to point out: this trip here was made on 5/23/2020, which means they are opening up to dine-in options post-quarantine. So it's very possible that the experience we had does not reflect what this place really can be during regular times. But for now, there is some room for improvement for sure. read more

Although, I wasn't there for the ambience. I was there to eat my body weight in all you can eat lunch sushi. This is good sushi. It's not gourmet, but it tasted fresh and had good flavor. This place is pretty good for an all you can eat sushi restaurant. You definitely do not have to pick from the all you can eat menu but I always do when I come here with a group of friends. The only problem I usually run into here is that we end up ordering more than we can actually eat. They say they charge for left over sushi but I've never actually been charged. Then again, when we do have left over pieces it's usually only 3 or less. The service here is very good, I've been here only about 3-4 times with in the past year and a half but the waitress there already knows my friends and I pretty well. I was impressed in when she knew the exact appetizers and drinks we wanted. Overall I rated this a 5 star because the waitress here, the Korean lady, she is a super star, she never fails to satisfy our needs and make sure we have everything we need even when it's busy. This is a true story. Last Sunday, I walked in to place a lunch take-out order for the family - my two young sons were craving sushi. It's 11:20; the door is open, I walked in. No greeter, no problem. As I made my way to the sushi counter, I greeted the sushi chef with a 'hello.' No response. I move closer, several feet away and with louder volume: 'hello.' A third time, now six to eight feet away: 'Hello?' Not a stir. No eye contact, nothing. He's busy preparing under the glass (no mask). As I stand and stare in disbelief, a few seconds later he finally musters the energy to glance up and make eye contact. He says: 'What?' Wow. Nothing else, so I follow with: 'Are you open (or serving today...),' I ask. Flatly, he says: 'We're not open. 11:30' Then finally someone else on staff enters scene, an older guy but with an equally unaffected, uninterested disposition. Guy #1 mumbles something to him, so #2 walks back to the kitchen and utters something to #3, who then blurts out with tension (female voice): "Are you kidding me?!" She walks out but suddenly halts when she sees me, as if hit squarely by an invisible wall: "Oh. What?!" Her defensive reaction smacks of someone caught with hands in the cookie jar. "We don't open till 11:30," she says, as if cueing me to leave. Truly unbelievable. Twilight Zone music is rising. It's 11:22. I'm an apparent trailblazer by arriving a few minutes before official opening ("go time"). Again, door was open, no closing sign to ward me off. At this point, I can't just walk out -- it's the principle of it all, I'm knee-deep in investigation mode and intrigued and a little shocked. I say: "I wanted....to place an order...for...sushi. Can I not look at menu and place an order?" It's painful to have to make my intentions clear. No apology, no courtesy. She instructs me to take the menu, not to sit near the counter but to sit at a table to review menu. From there, everything else is purely transactional: I order; she relays to sushi-makers; she brings it wrapped in bag; I pay; and I leave. For dessert: I get a dispassionate thank you without eye contact as she walks off to attend to guest #2. ***HEALTH CONCERN: Take a look at the picture. Guy #2 not wearing a mask, and neither is guy #1 to the right of him. The time is 11:31, I believe my food was already made. Only a few minutes after "go time" (11:35 or so), did they pull up mask to cover face. This place used to be good. A long time ago: different management, different personnel. They are glum, completely unfriendly and their sushi is average (if it was horrible, I'd rate this place with 1 star). It tasted sufficient but nothing that would warrant a revisit. Okay, before you go here you need to know what you're going to order. If you're going for the AYCE buffet then just know it's $12 for a reason. You get what you pay for blah blah blah. If you expect anything better then you're really setting yourself up for disappointment. Now I personally know what's good and what I like so I enjoy their lunch buffet a lot. However, this last time we went it seemed like their salmon tasted a little weird. No worries though, I prefer tuna anyways so we just stopped ordering the salmon. Maybe it was an off day. I'll have to try it again next time. The tuna was delicious though! We often order takeout from here and every time we order the food is very delicious. When ordering takeout we have noticed that the amount of rice used is significantly less than during AYCE. So of course, you get what you pay for. When you're hungry though, you really can't beat $12 for a lunch buffet. It's a good deal, regardless of how much rice is used. I'd much rather deal with a little extra rice than have to pay $16+ for a sushi buffet. All in all it's a very solid sushi lunch buffet place. Just give it a chance, you might like it. I usually prefer nigiri over rolls, so I don't come often, but I came with a group of coworkers for lunch on a Friday because they wanted to indulge in the all you can eat menu. The options there aren't super extensive, but I did enjoy the spicy salmon roll and the salmon skin rolls. The shrimp tempura roll was also pretty good. We got edamame, a bowl of fried rice, and veggie tempura as well. I enjoyed the edamame and the sweet potatoes in the veggie tempura. The fried rice was alright, but probably not worth the stomach space. I do enjoy that they have self-serve miso soup and a salad bar, so you can control how much dressing and which toppings go into your salad! The rolls probably have a bit higher rice-to-fish ratio than other places, but I wasn't too fussed about most of the rolls. I did end up picking the salmon out of a couple of pieces of the regular salmon roll and just eating the fish. All in all, definitely a quantity over quality place. Service was good; there are always runners coming by to refill your waters and ask if you'd like to order anything else. This is my go-to AYCE sushi restaurant. Their lunch deal if unbelievable for about $11! They offer unlimited appetizers as well as a large variety of rolls. The dinner menu holds even more options, and there are some rolls there that I've got to try next time I go. The presentation is nice, and I always like looking at the plates they use to bring out the sushi. The appetizers are great; I love getting the fried rice and the tempura. They even have miso soup. For the rolls, they do have a bit too much rice and not the freshest fish straight from the ocean--but for all you can eat, it's pretty darn good. And with the variety of rolls, you're sure to fit everyone's tastes if you bring a big group of friends! We went back to Sushi Shack this evening and everything I say in my original review stands, except for a couple of things. The 60c charge is now for any pieces left. They charge for left over rice if you order that too. Sushi and sashimi is $1 extra per piece. Service was friendly and attentive as before. You can choose from 55 rolls on the menu and some of them are huge. Which is a good thing and a bad thing. I want to try different items. I'd rather see them provide 4 pieces with each roll and be able to try 4 different ones rather then be stuffed after 2 and not be able to try others. This works out better if you have more than 2 people in your party for this reason. I'd have liked to see more variety, it seems like every roll was a different combination of tuna, salmon, and crab with just a couple with yellowtail and other fish, and some of those were fried only.
