I've been going to Sushi Shack since high school and will continue to come here every time I'm in town! I always go for the lunch special, which is about $13. This basically pays for itself if you get more than 2 rolls. The lunch menu is limited compared to the dinner menu, but if you're just looking for the basics, this is totally fine. When you walk in, you'll be seated at a table with a piece of paper that serves as your ordering sheet, and a golf pencil. You mark how many of each roll you want on the paper and the server will pick it up from you. There are also normal menus so you can see what's in all of the sushi rolls, or decide you want to order something else from their menu. They have a self-serve miso soup and salad bar in the back right corner. Definitely come hungry and pace yourself. I usually order two rolls for the first round and another in the second round and I'm full. As much fun as AYCE sushi is, it's not as much fun when you're full and trying to cram the last few bites in your stomach. I went for the All You Can Eat sushi at around 2 PM on a Saturday. The restaurant was busy but not too packed. They had college basketball going on the tvs. Clean tables, overall nice atmosphere. I went with a group of three other friends for the $12.99 (?) per person AYCE. There is a salad bar where you can make your own salad with three different dressings. I liked the miso one!! And there is a miso soup station right next to it. The bowls have dried seaweed and tofu in them so you just add the hot broth to our bowl. As for the sushi, you get a menu slip with columns to order what rolls you want. It was pretty self explanatory. You don't want to order more than you and your table can finish because they charge you for uneaten rolls. I don't blame them for this because people can be wasteful if that penalty weren't in place. I liked the shrimp tempura roll and the avocado roll. Others at my table ordered other rolls and everything tasted okay. Not spectacular but for $12.99, you get what you pay for. I came here before covid and I recently came back during the pandemic for their AYCE sushi lunch special. I've read a lot of the negative reviews about this place and I was super surprised since had a great experience last time. Coming back today, I can see that they read their reviews and take advice from it. The rolls definitely had less rice and more sushi, everyone (cooks and waiters/waitresses) was wearing masks and the service was great like last time. They do charge 60 cents for every piece you leave behind, so be careful not to order more than you can handle. Overall I still like this place and my experience was pleasant. We ordered 6 sushi rolls (we were going to order 10 but servers told us to not order that much because they're bit sushi rolls) and they are COMPLETELY FULL OF RICE. Sushi roll is warm and the deep fried one was luke warm. We are about 4 pieces of sushi and decided we were not impressed and wanted to leave. Talked to the waiter and said he'd only price us for half. And then proceeds to charge us for all of it + overcharged us for the ones we didn't touch even though we had to pick apart the huge pieces of rice that was attached to the "fish". They used to have AYCE sushi, but discontinued that in April in favor of a two-list menu of "basic" rolls and "special rolls". Always left the restaurant stuffed. Sure, you can complain that sometimes they have too much rice for some of their rolls, but they don't really overdo the rice proportions in my experience. Also, can't beat the price, so I'm not sure why people complain about excessive rice for all-you-can-eat during lunch. I've had their spicy tuna and tuna rolls and those had enough tuna per piece. Also, I have at least 2-4 rolls here, which for the same price you could get one roll elsewhere, so this is a pretty good deal if you're trying to get full. Worst sushi experience of my life. I should have left the moment the server bullied my wife into changing her order because the server didn't think we could eat all the sushi on our order. As an all-you-can eat sushi place, I understand the desire to not waste food on clients who order more than they can eat. But what is not acceptable is berating your customers, making a scene, and insisting they don't know their limits. Nor is telling your customers "I TOLD you it was a lot!" Even after they did eat their entire order. And on top of that, they made us move tables halfway through our dinner to accommodate a medium-sized party. We wouldn't have minded normally, but on top of the other rudeness it was incredibly frustrating. The $20 all-you-can eat deal is deceptive, only referring to (some) of their rolls, with the nigiri and sashimi costing extra. As nigiri fans, we were extremely disappointed to learn we had to either fill up on rolls or pay extra for the nigiri. Speaking of the rolls, they had way too much rice and were covered in a cheap eel sauce. The fish wasn't bad from what I could taste, but honestly between the rice and the sauce there wasn't even much to taste. All told, the two of us paid over $70 for mediocre sushi. For that price, we could have gone to a nice restaurant and really enjoyed good quality fish. We specifically chose this restaurant because it was supposed to be affordable. But instead of getting decent all-you-can-eat nigiri for $20 each, we had an awful dining experience instead. Will not be coming back. There was an incident where the manager tried to insult me by trying to insinuate I didn't hear the name of the delivery and it was my fault because I was stupid. The rice is also really dry so it takes awhile to chew and fully swallow everything. But it's their tactic so customers eat less so they don't lose too much money. Decided to try Sushi Shack despite the reviews...I should've listened. Came for the All You Can Eat sushi during lunch time. I ordered 12 rolls and the waiter said "that's a lot, these rolls are big" and encouraged my group of 3 friends to subtract some rolls from our order. We followed the recommendation...I'm glad we did. The "sushi" came out and my friends were absolutely shocked at the ratio of filling to RICE. It was at least 65% rice making the "sushi" taste nothing but RICE. I fully understand the reasoning behind adding more rice, especially at an AYCE, but it has impacted the quality of the sushi itself. Update: The owner apologized, but does he understand how his staff degraded customers? Are his staff members not happy that they feel the need to be entertained at the expense of his customers? We do not need to spend our hard earned money here, especially for low quality food and treatment. Sushi rice consists of the broken grain variety. Each roll is stuffed with inexpensive rice to fill you up which saves food costs. The insult to injury comes in the form of waitstaff and sushi "chefs" mocking or teasing customers in their language for overstuffed sushi and small portions of appetizers. Cutting food costs is understandable, but mocking guests and gleefully taking pleasure in seeing paying guests eat in discomfort while overcharging for mediocre food and rude service ("look I don't want to charge for leftover sushi") is below even customer service from McDonald's. Better to go to Yama during their reverse happy hour than Sushi Shack. Food from Yama is at least better grade quality. read more

Have you ever eaten a maki (sushi roll) and thought to yourself, "boy, I wish they would give me less of the good stuff and more rice!" Me neither. I hate when I have to downgrade a review, but integrity trumps warm fuzzies, so here we go. I am posting a picture that pretty much is the entire argument for this change, but I will explain it here as well. I went there this weekend for their all-you-can-eat and found they have cut out about 50% of the heart of the maki and replaced it with rice. I am not kidding. You look at the cross-section and it's like a very sad cheapskate yin and yang. I can appreciate that their price point may be bringing people in and they may have made the business decision that giving people half as much of the "meat" in their maki is the way to go, but it is not for me. The first round of sushi wasn't terrible but the second platter was just inedible. First off, the sushi to rice ratio is completely off, there is more rice than anything. Secondly, the rolls are not proportional, meaning so rolls are very thin to very thick. The salmon skin roll was burnt, hardly any fish in the rolls and lastly the rolls that came to the table are not what was described in the menu.
