This place is the worse (zero!) and here's why: - cost too much - for some reason the cupcakes and cakes have a gritty texture (do they add corn meal?) - they add cost for the employees (why do we have to pay for the increase in minimum wage). If you like fluffy moist cake this is not the place for you. The cakes here are very dense although they are very visually appealing. The flavors were just off on everything I tried except for the carrot cake which was probably the best carrot cake I've had. I would strongly recommend tasting cakes before buying a full size one. I was going to order a cake for a birthday but after tasting the cakes I will keep looking for a place. Utterly overpriced items from this cakeshop. I was lured by its store appearance and that is all what it is best for. I tried a slice of tropical coconut cake and it is nothing close to a coconut cake. The cake tasted more of a carrot cake with white sugar icing sprinkled with grated coconut bits -so disappointing. Ralph's coconut cake is way better! Did i mention overpriced? This slice of white cake costs me $7.64. The displays do not show prices and they wouldn't tell you about their "Healthy Team" fee. I ordered cupcakes while I store and when I got home my cupcake order was incorrect. It was a little upsetting because my drive to get there was over 30 minutes so there was no going back to exchange. Not happy with the experience. I visited this same location again today and for the second time I've had a bad experience. My cupcake was given to me sealed in a bag opposed to a box so by the time the cupcake made it home all the icing was smeared off the cupcake onto the bag. To make things worse, there was some sort of particle found in the icing. I took it off to inspect it and could not determine what it was so the whole cupcake was trashed. I am HIGHLY disappointed in this place...I Just had the celebration cake and it is sooo BLAND! Tastes like flour! I've tried their other cakes as well and thought it was just those cakes, but it's this bakery...overrated. I have had a great experience every time I've been to this store, until today. I had pre-ordered a cake but when I got there they didn't have my order ready. Two people had to come out and check my receipt. I understand it's easy to put a cake in a box, but I didn't appreciate the attitude I received from the employees. The customer service is great. The decor and space is welcoming, cute, the colors are on point. I was excited to try SusieCakes. Well, I loved everything about the place, except the actual cakes. We ordered 3 slices: banana chocolate chip, red velvet, and vanilla celebration. It's just cake. Maybe even a little too sweet. I wish I could say; " I'll be back," however, I can't. I was excited about my visit to SusieCakes, I had been told by friends and family about their delicious cakes. So, I made the journey to SusieCakes with thoughts of sugary treats dancing in my head. I arrived at SusieCakes to a line forming inside the store. I thought to myself, " WOW, The cakes must be good. I can't wait." I decided upon the coconut cake and waited patiently while they cut and boxed up my slice. After receiving my slice I immediately went out side to open my box and take a look. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The top of the cake was no longer attached to the rest of the cake. It also looked very small for $6.64. To make sure that this was a normal slice, I ask three separate individuals as they exited the shop. The first one hedged and said, " well, some of the cakes look bigger because they are taller." However, she never verified that my slice was a normal slice. The next person said, " ummm, it looks kind of small. Did they really give you a slice that falling apart like that." She graciously opened one of her boxes to show me her lovely slice of cake. ( stupid me... Forgot to ask to take a picture of her slice.) The third person just said, " I would take it back." I decided not to return they cake. If I had to describe my susie cake experience with slice of cake, I would say," nothing special." The coconut icing was your typical coconut icing. Think, grocery store coconut icing. However, the cake was moist and flavorful. The pineapple added a little something to it. I think this cake is over-rated for the price and quality. The prices here are ABSURD. I'm not someone who isn't willing to pay good money for quality baked goods, I will drive the 25 miles to Newport Beach just to buy a Sprinkles cupcake because they're that good, but I will not again drive the 2 miles to Susie's. Their cupcakes are a normal cupcake price($3.65) but they clearly put larger sized ones up front in the case for you to see than the ones they give you. The cupcake was tiny for a regular sized cupcake, and although it tasted fine, it wasn't worth the price and the deception of the size I thought it would be. Also, the packaging for one cupcake is horrible. The bags they use are super flimsy and crush the cupcake. What really got me though was the sugar cookies. I didn't bother to ask the price of the cookie because how much could a place realistically charge for a small sized sugar cookie that costs about 15 cents in ingredients to make? Well the answer to that, my friends, is $4.50!!!!! $4.50 for a small, not very good, sugar cookie!!!! I was floored. The cheesecake I bought was only $6.75 and you're going to charge $4.50 for a sugar cookie!!!!! COME ON!!!! If I'm paying $4.50 for a small sugar cookie it better be encrusted in gold. The other thing that got to me was they charge an additional 2% on top of your bill to help with their employee health insurance. I've seen that before and in general it doesn't bother me, but this place is making BANK off of their ridiculous prices, they absolutely have the money to pay for their employees health insurance with their regular costs, it's embarrassing that they would charge even more from customers. How unbelievably greedy can the owners be??? Really, Susie's, you should be embarrassed. And one more thing, they need to learn what a Whoopie pie is. Coming from New England, it's a mockery that they call the chocolate cookies with cream in the middle they serve, whoopie pies. Those aren't whoopie pies, they're chocolate sandwich cookies, if you're going to call yourself a bakery, at least learn what the baked goods you choose to serve are supposed to taste like. read more

The cupcakes were not that good. All of them had a dense, almost under-baked cake. The frostings were ok but thick & heavy. Was sent there to order a birthday cake. Friendly Alex was patient as I pondered on what what size I needed. Finally settled for the large confetti. Returned the next day to pick up when they opened to find a line of at least 10-12 people waiting. The confetti cake was a hit with my party crowd. It was beautiful and tasty. This place will no doubt be a popular place. Just a couple things owner may take into consideration: The entry lacks some type of organization for when it's crowded. Perhaps a number system? The staff were quick to help customers. However, it was a little crazy in the small entry area with many people and I counted 2 strollers. I did notice the signs about the 2% charge for health insurance. While I applaud your efforts to help provide healthcare to your employees; perhaps you could just slightly increase the price of your products, rather than tacking it on the end. I've only tried their cupcakes, but that was enough for me. First of all, if you're gonna charge $2.10 each for minis and $4.00 for full size, they better be damn good. Don't get me wrong, I'm willing to pay for quality, but looking good alone isn't sufficient. In my opinion, which is just that, they put WAY too much frosting on the cupcakes and instead of being very flavorful, they just end up being overly sweet. I do know people who eat frosting right out of the jar (you know who you are!) and you folks may like these cupcakes. For me, they were short on flavor, straight sugar sweetness doesn't count as flavor in my book. They were way overpriced as well, given the quality. They LOOK amazing, but looks alone doesn't justify spending $30 for 7 dang cupcakes. Frosted on 2nd does a better job hands down...again, just my opinion. Oh yeah, and $6.00 for ONE slender sparkler candle OR $4.50 for a single number (1,2,3,etc) candle is absolutely INSANE pricing as far as I'm concerned. Had to order a dozen cupcakes for a friend's birthday...and I was surprised by how much a dozen cupcakes now cost. Over $4 per cupcake. I know inflation is something that's affecting everyone but when it's' $4+ per cupcake, you'd expect a little more. The cupcakes are also on the small side. I chose a bunch of different flavors and we all cut them up to try and taste different kinds. They didn't stand out much. They have interesting flavors and decorations wise, they're nice. They've been open for a week, I stopped in around 5pm and parked in the Whole Foods side. I didn't see a big line until I turned the corner inside. I waited about an hour. When I got up to the side I could see the girls behind the counter working at a fast paced. Cutting slices, taking orders. When I got up to order I chose the Cinnabon, red velvet slices as well as a 7 layer bar and a ginger molasses cookie. It was quite chaotic since they just opened but all the workers were sweet. I tried my red velvet cake slice and it melted in my mouth, very decadent and moist. My husband loves the Cinnabon cake slice as well, I believe thAt one was seasonal. They have happy hours through out the month which they have listed on a chalkboard. The store itself is very neat and tidy, I loved the marble flooring they used. And I loved the 50's theme they had going on. They also have a rewards program that you can sign up for and get 2 free cupcakes when you first enroll. I will be back again, I really liked the taste of the cakes and the people were very friendly. I did over here the person in front of me order 12 cupcakes for it to spell out "happy birthday" and it was about $56 or so dollars... I also saw a side that stated small cakes were about $40 and larger about $60, just to give you a better idea. So for the 2 slices of cake, 1 cookie, 1 bar and a box of confetti I paid $30 dollars. read more

I tried 4 different cupcakes strawberry, peanut butter, coconut, and chocolate. Sorry to say this is one of those places that while everything looks great the taste is not to par. The icing is pretty much flavored sugar and the cake is either super dense or crumbly depending on which flavor you choose. While they are not bad cupcakes I don't feel like these are the best either. There's actually a small place close to here (not as nicely decorated as Susie's cakes) called miss Priss cupcakes that's actually better. On another note the staff is very friendly. read more

People standing around, they don't smile and seem inefficient. There were 2 customers and 5 people behind the counter, and I still waited at least 5 min. Then today, service was better. I don't live close to any of their locations, so when I'm craving a moist, red velvet cupcake I have to wait until I'm actually in the area running errands....because it would be crazy to drive 20 miles just for a cupcake, right? Oh! I was super excited that Susiecakes came to LB! More tasty dessert places in Long Beach to enjoy when I visit. I was able to get there around 3pm before the rush came in. The customer service was awesome. The workers were so nice and I was happy about that. :) I tried: Susie's Nutty.. the cookie was tasty but the peanut butter cream was too much for me.
