A friend and I caught up post my birthday and the holidays. What a treat it is to experience Tantalum! A hidden gem tucked in the corner of a shopping center next to Nordstrom rack and Acapulcos. The moment you walk in, you're taken to another continent, culture and world. The atmosphere is a huge plus with all the details from the plants to the restroom door kick plate. Once your eyes adjust to the dimness, you start to notice the views from The bar and patio. A marina with boats and passersby on their boats and the sunset! This was a visit for happy hour and more chit chat with my friend. Enjoyed the fried Brie with the fruited sauce that had a kick to it. Honestly couldn't tell you what fruit but all I know it was delish! The cocktails will do that to you LOLOL. Speaking of cocktails the Tanta old Fashion was traditional and strong which I like. Nothing out of this world but a good serving and kick. Service was good could have been better if they had more than 1 server. She was doing a great job even when it was starting to get very busy. Such a great restaurant. Perfect for your group get together at the bar or even having a private back room with a Buffett for a birthday would be fun here. Had an amazing Sunday day out with my sisters here! We each ordered something different so we could try a little bit of everything. The food was straight-up delicious--scallops, sliders, beef noodles, Buddha rice, and chicken lollipops. Each dish was a hit. We kept the drinks coming too--kiwi margaritas for that sweet fruity vibe, French 75s with tequila for a little kick, and lemon drops with tequila for something extra refreshing. And for all my chocolate lovers--the chocolate cake was to die for. The melted chocolate in the middle? OMG. Worth every single calorie. Tantalum is in a beautiful space with marina views that make you feel like you've been transported out of Long Beach. You can come in just for drinks and appetizers and sit at the long bar with a perfect view of the water or sit at a table for a more intimate experience. They do show sports on the TVs at the bar, and on a Tuesday night they had live music as well. The menu is mainly Asian-influenced and we really enjoyed the food! My friend and I shared the Beef and Chips to start, their version of a poutine with short rib, duck fat fries and a white cheddar truffle sauce. The fries stayed crispy the whole time, the short rib was so tender and the cheese sauce perfectly complemented the dish. I went in with plans to order the mahi mahi but couldn't resist the Ulu Watu, an udon and filet mignon dish with tons of flavor that was a special for the night. Cooked to medium as requested, with a tasty brioche bun and a heeping side of fries. Points deducted because they told my friend she could bring balloons over the phone, but when she arrived, we were told no balloons allowed as it would ruin the ambience. Refreshing and delicious. The food was mixed. The calamari was really unique and tasty and I would get this again without hesitating. The beef and chips had a good flavor, and the super crunchy fries worked great (the soggy ones were tolerable because it was a good enough sauce). The Brussels were under whelming compared to what we've had at other comparable restaurants; the flavors didn't meld and there weren't many crunchy bits, but it wasn't bad. The Mac and cheese was a little tragic, as it was a truly delicious sauce but buried underneath a mountain of bland breadcrumbs that turned the dish into a mud as I tried to dig past them. read more

They've a waterfront location with the most lush environs and sumptuous atmosphere. Dark & tranquil with a hint of sexy and the bay views - come on now. The menu is so fresh and bursting with Asian flavors, and nothing was too heavy. Do try the hoisin ribs - so tender - and the chicken wraps, which were so bright; the burger was also a hit. For the table, the Buddha Rice - hearty and perfect to split. Their staff was all fantastic and it starts at the top. Manager Joe brings a genuine touch to every guest encounter -- he's rich for conversation, so grab him when he makes his rounds and allow him to suggest a fantastic wine pairing. Beautiful service all around. Also worth noting: while they're perfect for enjoying date night, they can easily accommodate larger groups as well. The live music is always a hit with my husband and I, and now my kids love it here too! Thursdays are the nights to go - awesome music choice and vocals, we had fun singing along to so many good choices. Beautiful ambiance, delicious food (I always, always, always order the calamari, mac n cheese and skinny fries, amongst whatever else we are feeling that day), and service is so efficient and helpful. It's a place where you can dress up if you want, take some cute pictures, have a romantic dinner, go out for drinks, or even enjoy a family dinner together. We've done it all here. We were informed almost two hours before we were told that two of the dishes we ordered had run out and needed to be replaced. Our drink orders, including water, took almost 30 minutes to arrive - and the coffee was tepid. The food itself was either bland or over salted. We watched as party after party abandoned ship and left angrily without ever getting their food. I felt terrible as we were all dressed up and ready to celebrate our mother's, but all we ended up with was a total fiasco. This was my first time at this restaurant and I didn't expect much, however we came out feeling worse than we did before coming in. Fire I want to say that the service was great, our waitress was really nice and giving us tips on what to get for drinks. The ambiance was also really good having the outside seating was what would've made it a four to five stars, if the food was good. The miso cod was over cooked and the rice felt like they just put random meats to try to mix and match it felt like a cheap copy version of Nasi goreng. However the only reason that I'm not giving this restaurant a one star is because the Calamari was pretty good, as well as the ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant. Our server was quick with water and was a nice pleasant person. But then there was the food my partner ordered the wasabi crusted steak. It came with mashed potatoes and mushrooms. I had the steak and noodle special. It took quite a long time for the food to come out. We were beginning to think something was wrong. A food runner brought our food and my partners Steak dish was cold. I'm not talking just warm. I'm talking cold at that point. It took a while for our server to come back and check on the food. The special steak noodle dish was average at the most, especially if you consider the price. After we got the steak back and it was warm, it was put in a microwave. I imagine unfortunately after that came out we rarely saw our server and when it was time to present the check, it was given us by the manager. There was no apology. I understand that on Friday night's restaurants are busy and we could've dismissed the cold food but really it was the quality of the food. It just wasn't there. They have some of the best calamari in Long Beach it's not rings they slice up calamari steak like fry with cashews and a green sauce some of the best I've ever had. We went in and just happened to be happy hour yay for us :-) got duck fat fries edamame and the brie cheese with I believe raspberry topping. Everything was so good the drinks were on special Co got her sangria red I got a pair infused of vodka martini I loved it. Then the server I believe her name was Dana. She was great she she let go know they also have a white sangria that she loved better than the red. She was there for us we talked she was telling us about her favorite foods and just personal she was very nice. We were lucky enough to have the entire back room to ourselves as well. The islander vibe comes through with their menu items and we rate not disappointed. Everything about my experience here this past weekend was just terrible. From the moment we were seated till we left the restaurant, there was not a single moment that stood out to be that was great. Let me start off by giving some credit to the layout of the restaurant and its decor because I do think the decorations, lighting, and the outside view was great. It was giving a "tulum" vibe which was nice. Unfortunately, that is the only positive thing I can say about this place. We came to celebrate a birthday and had a party of 7 and were seated in the back corner of the restaurant. No one helped us after we sat down, not a single person stopped by to even offer us water. I had to wave someone down to ask for our server to which they responded, "ok, I will go get them." An additional 15+ minutes pass and still no server, I had to ask a second time. After quite some time AGAIN, someone finally came and apologized advising that there was some sort of "mix up." He ordered our drinks and we were inquiring about the Pad Thai and he stated that it was available on the lunch menu which started in about 13 minutes. We requested for the lunch menu and he never came back with them until we had to ask for it again. He finally gave us our menu then went away and did not come back for ANOTHER 20 minutes. By the time we actually ordered our food it was around 2:35 PM and we sat down at 1:30PM. It was extremely frustrating because it was very obvious that he was not meant to assist our table (hence the "mix up" he mentioned) because all of his attention was dedicated to the guests outdoors. I did not appreciate having to wave him down every single time we needed assistance. Also, is smiling not an option at this place? Because all their workers gave off the same demeanor. Onto to their food: Fries - the fries were decent, just any ordinary fries. Nothing special but it wasn't terrible either. Well seasoned and had a crisp to them. Chicken Lollipop - I liked these, they were bite size and well seasoned. A little salty but it went well with the dipping sauce. It also had roasted potatoes underneath which were soft in the center and crispy on the outside. Calamari - this would have been a solid option if it wasn't extremely salty. All I tasted was the overwhelming amount of soy sauce or some type of oyster/hoisin sauce. It was over powering. Air & Ocean Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp - whoever raved about their Pad Thai here must have never had actual Pad Thai before or they came on a good day because whatever I ate was not remotely close to PAD THAI. Yes, I know that is supposed to be ASIAN FUSION but don't call your dish Pad Thai if even the noodles were more like chowmein than Pad Thai noodles. The noodles were undercooked, it was hard. Shrimp was giving frozen and you can tell by the color and texture. Also the chicken was almost like a Rotisserie texture. From the outside looking at it, it looked extremely plain and looks like a chowmein option you get at Panda Express or if you want to be a little more restaurant then PF Changs. However, when you bite into the dish it was SALTY. All you tasted was soy sauce and it had a bitterness at the end. It tasted like a frozen dish from Costco. Hosted a party here and the experience was mixed. There are a lot of rules around hosting an event, some of which felt unnecessary. We were able to work within them, so it wasn't a dealbreaker, but it did make the process feel more rigid than needed. The bigger issue was our server, Jonathan. When I asked straightforward questions about the bill, his responses felt defensive and low-key aggressive. It was uncomfortable and made it feel like asking for clarification was a problem, which isn't what you want when dealing with group charges. The event itself was fine, but tone and professionalism matter. For management, this feels less like a policy issue and more like a training one. As for the food, we ordered the chicken lollipops as an appetizer and it came with potatoes. This dish was absolutely excellent, I could've just ordered this as a meal, it was so good. I loved the sweet/spicy sauce they added to the potatoes. For my entree I ordered the steak udon noodles which were really good. I was a little disappointed with the blood orange margarita. I haven't been to this place in many years and after going to the Queensview steakhouse at the Pike for my husband's birthday last year (wonderful experience) I thought it would be nice to try another waterfront place in Long beach. Tantalum used to have the best burger I think I've ever had and I saw that alot of the menu items were the same and was excited to have it again. I made a reservation for the patio a week in advance and when we arrived my husband and I and our 2 small children, were told no there wasn't anything on the patio and we were seated in the very furthest corner of the restaurant and it was loud and crammed and I wish we had left right then but I told my husband if they get us a spot on the patio by the water then we'll stay. I asked the server in that section and she made it happen and brought us to the patio where there were several open tables and when we were being seated at one the hostess who told us no at the entrance followed us out there and told us we couldn't sit there it was closed so they made us move to another patio table 2 tables over and we were finally seated l. then we order drinks and an appetizer and my daughter wanted a Shirley temple that didnt come until our server overheard me telling my husband that we didn't get it and she brought it last after we finished the appetizer. We got the beef and chips 29$ it was a small soup bowl with overly seasoned fries that were encrusted with seasoned salt, red grease from the shredded beef and maybe 2 Tablespoons of truffle cheese sauce like they were super stingey with the sauce. I finished my beer and the server destiny brought my husband another diet coke then ran off and I flagged her down for another beer and she asked if I wanted another glass, I said no ill just use this one since the first one wasn't chilled or anything and I figured the second one wouldn't be either, and she said oh thank you. Like it was the weirdest service ever. I ordered the kobe burger 30$ and my husband ordered the rib eye 68$ and were going to share with the kids then get them desserts. My husband's steak was just ok but really oily it was like truffle flavored grease where they used to put this slightly melting slice of herbed compound butter with garlic and citrus zest, I guess they don't do that anymore. Both of our fries were cold and the kids didn't even want them. And now for the burger, I am not kidding when I say there were maybe 4 strings of onions on my burger, the patty was not kobe or wagyu like it used to be and it was definitely a preformed frozen sirloin blend at best and it was deformed like someone had stepped on it. The meat was chewy and flavorless and the bun was not brioche it was a cold weird pretzel bun color with no butter un toasted and no sauce save for a small dab of sour mayo on the bottom bun. We did not enjoy the meal and no one asked how it was our server just saw that I had stood up to get my youngest out of her high chair and we asked for boxes we were brought a single box and she gave us the check in a regular server book and when my husband went to pay she shoved this weird amazon inventory device thing is his face and stared at him while he had to choose from the pre-set tip options of 15 20 and 25 percent. It was so bizarre. My poor husband works his ass off and he drove us almost 2 hours from lake arrowhead to this sad washed up place to spend over 200$ on garbage food and horrible hospitality and service. I wish we left when we first got there but I thought if that burger is still here it will be worth it but no, we had to stop somewhere on the way home for the kids because after that horrible meal we weren't gonna risk ordering dessert. What the hell happened to this place? It must be about to close and they are just scrambling for as much profit as they can before this ship sinks. The burger was juicy, loaded, and super flavorful. The sliders were small but packed with flavor and totally worth getting if you want to share. Let's talk dipping sauces. Our server was awesome and let me try a few. We ended up with ketchup, garlic aioli, and a spicy chipotle-style one. I love dipping fries in different sauces so this made me happy.
