I was really excited to try this place, the selection of restaurants in the direct area are a little limited; however, this is one of the worst experiences I have had. Arrived to a semi empty restaurant at 650, ordered drinks promptly (our server was AMAZING!!) but waited almost 25 minutes to receive our drinks, 40 minutes for our appetizer, and finally at an hour and half later still have not gotten our meal. The restaurant itself is a beautiful setting, decor is elegant, and the food that we tasted was great. I, however, can not wait more than 2 hours to actually eat my meal. read more

My partner and I recently stayed at the Marriott in Downtown Minneapolis. We had two meals at Tavola which is attached to the hotel. The food was simply amazing - as it should be when attached to a 5 star hotel. What set out visits to Tavola apart from any other dining experiences was the server. I believe her name was Bree (hopefully that's right!) Both times Bree was our server. At one of the meals it was incredibly busy and Bree always took time to explain everything on the menu - almost as if we were the only customers in the restaurant. After asking us a few questions Bree recommended that we try the Bolognese and mussels. She paired with a wine that was wonderful. Our glasses were never empty and it felt like her connection to us was both authentic and genuine. We never felt rushed and we even ordered desert (we NEVER do that)! A truly lovey dining experience! I can't wait to go to Tavola and get great service by Bree. If you go, ask for her by name. She is superb with her knowledge and service and a real please to chat with to. read more

There's a big selection on alcohol so you won't be disappointed. I got the cinghiale pappardelle. The pasta was creamy and savory. A good combination with the wild boar. My favorite happy hour spot in the Twin Cities. The food at any time is *excellent*, but the happy hour specifically has great bang for your buck. You'll get a selection of entrees for nearly half the price. My husband and I can go and share a selection of appetizers and keep the bill at $20 (drinks not included), which is INCREDIBLE because that's nearly the price of most standalone entrees during dinner. read more

Had our Thanksgiving dinner here last night(not turkey people). Very good, friendly service and cocktails in the upscale, casual bar. Artichoke appetizer is pricey but worth it! The traditional pizza with fire baked thin crust was one of the best pizza's we have had. Two sizes of pasta are nice for lighter appetites/tasting. I'm staying at the hotel that houses this restaurant and I just went down to have a bite at Tavola. Stood there for ten mins. No one looked up or was there to seat anyone. Another patron came in with someone from the front desk because no one sat him prior to my arrival. The front desk employees , who was very kind, went to get someone from the back to seat the other quest. Someone came out and sat him and then vanished into the back and didn't seat me. Finally the bartender made eye contact and I told him I'm just going to seat myself. Ten mins later no waiter...no nothing. I left. Perhaps they don't need the business? read more

Came to thIs restaurant to celebrate with another friend and it was the most horrible experience ever on our special days. Got to the restaurant figured we would be greeted by a server when we sat and one never came. I had to get up from the table and ask for a server. One came over and took out his pad to take our order and we all said we didn't even get menus yet. Then when we finally got menus, sat for maybe 20 minutes or so for him to come back and take our order. The party ordered everything at once with drinks, apps and food since we waited a while. Then when the drinks finally came out I thought hey drinks, but we got two served, then waited another twenty to fifteen minutes for another two and so on it went with drinks. Why would you not bring all the drinks out at once!!!! So now we are waiting for food and no food to the table. That's like another 15 minute or so wait, then when food finally came one dish was brought out. Like am I missing something!!!! Who brings one dish out when the entire table ordered at the same time. So we are waiting now for the rest to come out and it didn't, that took another 15 to 20 minutes and at this point I was annoyed and asked for the Manager. Well let me give his degree on professionalism!!! When he finally decided he will come out and we communicated our concerns he didn't even say I am sorry this is happening in the kitchen we are short staffed or something... Like at least give an explanation and apologize on top of that. None of that!!!! Then when another dish decides to come out and be served the Carbonara was not to what was expected. So we asked can this be made of, when they did decided to bring the other one to replace the none tasting pea less dish it was served with an iced cold egg. Let me state this that is not how that dish is made! I went to Culinary school and you do not serve a Cold Egg on that dish. The eggs are taken out and set to room temperature, so when the dish is prepared and the egg is placed on top the pasta will cook and warm the egg slightly. Now let me explain one thing as someone whom worked in the Industry, keeping and satisfying your "Guest" are key as you want your restaurant to have great reviews and for customers to return and spread the word on the service and food!!!! Mr Ryan whom is the manager needs an ethic class on how to deal with the service industry because quite frankly you have no ounce of professionalism in your body at all. If you would like a class on the food industry and how to treat your guest hit me up and I will teach you. As my father is a Chef and has been in the industry for 38+ years and besides him being an amazing chef he also knows how to give amazing quality hospitality service. So learn to be professional and when a guest has a complaint you go above and beyond to ensure the service carried out is service you will want when you go out to celebrate a special day or even just having dinner with family or friends!!!! Beautiful restaurant with amazing brunch. On the weekends they have an unlimited Bloody Mary & Mimosa bar with a huge variety of fixings. Still pretty quiet compared to other restaurants in Minneapolis but a hidden gem for sure. read more

I live right behind tavola at the HQ residence. I was excited knowing there was a close by Italian spot really close by. As of last night I went for my third time with once again bad luck. The first time I walked in the establishment I sat at the bar to grab a menu and get a drink. It took close to 10 mins for anyone to simple ask for my drink and get a menu after they walked by me several times. Close to another 10 mins for someone to ask what I would like after. The second time I sat a booth with a date. Same exact issue but no one came to us close to 20 mins. We walked out and went somewhere else. I had hope of going in a 3rd thinking there was no chance that could happen again. I went in once again with the same exact experience as the second time. We waited close to 15 mins. No one gave us menus's, waters or any attention or realization we were even existent. Sadly enough I wouldn't recommend this or be going back to this place based on customer service unless you want to run around the place tracking down staff. There food is exceptional but the service isn't worth it. read more

I stayed at Elliot Park Hotel for 3 days. I had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Tavola. Friendly staff treated me very professionally and made sure I always had the best experience. I had best omelette I ever had. French fries are the best. Salmon was outstanding. I visited Tavola on a Friday, for lunch, with 2 girlfriends. I was excited because the StarTribune had really hyped the place. We all could not have been more disappointed. We arrived around 12:15pm and 2 of the ladies promptly ordered cocktails, for which we waited no less than 15 minutes; the drinks tasted fine. Unfortunately, I held off on my order until their drinks had arrived, so I had to wait another 10-15 minutes for my cocktail. We were one of only 3 tables in the dining room, so it was not like they were busy. And, they seemed to have enough staff on site. We had to wait for an excessively long time when one of my friends ordered a second cocktail, at which point we were the only people left in the restaurant. The food experience was equally disappointing. The food did come out in a reasonable amount of time, but the quality was lacking. I had the chicken entree and it was dry and fairly flavorless. One friend had a muffeletta sandwich and it was pretty skimpy on the ingredients. The other friend had a pulled-porked sandwich, which was dry and tasteless. I think my husband felt worse than any of us because he had recommended that we dine there. We all agreed that they might not be ready to be open to the public yet. I can't imagine how they would handle a bigger crowd. We did complain to the waiter about the slowness of the serving time and a manager did come over to apologize, and he said he would "pass along" the complaint. I did get a follow-up phone call from another manager, who told me to come back sometime for a drink. I didn't bother to tell him that I won't be coming back; there are too many good restaurants out there to waste time on even an average place. Horrible service. It took 20 minutes to get a beer. And 3 hours to have dinner. The waitress said the bar was a priority to get a drink over the patrons in the restaurant to get a drink. Live a block away, wish it was still a parking lot. I suffer from a rare food allergy. I had the chance to explain this to the chef, he was accommodating and assured me that it wouldn't be an issue on future visits. That was until I met the manager Rhea. Just no, go somewhere else - it will be a better experience & you will be a happier person. If you are hungry or on a schedule, it's not going to work out well for you here. A friend & I arrived at 5:15 for an early dinner before a show. Very few tables were occupied at the time. We ordered and received our cocktails, then ordered meals well before the tables on either side of us were occupied. My friend also indicated that she'd like to order wine later with her meal. The tables on both sides of ours were served their food long before we were. The table on one side was slow enough they were expressing concern about their meals not arriving in time. My friend's meal finally arrived & I was ungraciously told mine would be out "later". Later came when I was finally able to flag down the waiter to tell him we needed the check & I was no longer interested (an hour & 15 minutes after ordering) in the meal that never arrived. There was no real apology. No offer of a salad or app while I waited. No concern that a meal was ever delivered. No follow up or concern on anything, not even the the glass of wine my friend had indicated she wanted with her meal - they can bill for that! We should have had, could have had everything we wanted long before the place filled up - so that excuse for horrific service is not applicable. As for the food, mine was flavorless. My cocktail, Days Of My Youth, was so overwhelmingly smoky it tasted like meat. I guess that's something, but still not good. My friend ordered the Pici Aglione, adding 2 meatballs. Probably it would have been better with that glass of wine she wanted. She said it was okay and proceeded to talk about a delicious meal she had recently at I Nonni. As we were leaving another table was talking about getting their meals to go because it was taking so long. Pass on Tavola, go where they know how to treat customers well. read more

We celebrated one of our friend's birthday at Tavola. They were very good with accommodating all ten of us. The ambiance is very good. I wish they would dim the lights a bit. The service was a 4/5. We would have appreciated if the waitress would check on us more often. The food was ok for the price. I would give it 3/5. Nothing that really stood out. Portions are not over the top. I would personally go to either Bar la Grassa or Monello for my future Italian cravings. read more

Enjoyed a Christmas Happy Hour on Thursday, December 7 with long time Kraus-Anderson friends. I enjoyed the house red wine and others enjoyed their beverages. We shared their delicious brussel sprouts, two of us ordered one of their delicious pizzas, two had Wild Bore items. Everyone enjoyed their food and beverages. Our waitress was wonderful as were the bartenders. I am sure we will visit this restaurant again. We are a long time group of friends who once worked together at Kraus-Anderson and there are still two who work there.
