I ordered chicken biscuit and tots via Uber Eats at 1:19pm while at a conference nearby. When I arrived less than 10 minutes later, my order was ready. The food was the appropriate temperature and order was mostly correct. The biscuit itself was somewhat dry, unfortunately, as was missing butter sauce on it. The biscuit was falling apart from being more hard than it being soft. This was disappointing. The tater tots were average.
The chicken sandwich had the strangest texture I've ever encountered for a protein option. I should have taken a photo of how STRINGY and BOUNCY the meat was. It honestly felt like I was eating rubber. Since this was a work lunch I had already ordered, I begrudgingly ate it anyway. Overall, the experience was a bit traumatizing, and I won't be trying anything from this place again. I'm also big on presentation. The patty was square-shaped and paired with a round bun, definitely unique, but visually unsettling. To make matters worse, everything arrived cold. Not a fan!
We grabbed fried chicken sandwiches and loaded tater tots on our way to the ballpark. The chicken had a nice crispy crust that held up during the walk to the ballpark. The slaw was good, but I would have enjoyed a little more in the sandwich. The thigh meat had quite a bit of silverskin membrane present, which made it a little hard to get off a clean bite. The tater tots were okay and probably would have tasted better if eaten right away. I should have opened the lid so that the steam didn't make them soft while we walked. This is a tiny storefront with a few tables inside. If in the area again, I would return since the chicken sandwich is tasty and reasonably priced.
Overall a pretty decent spot. Stopped by here while working Dream Force at the St. Regis and it's literally right behind the hotel. Upon entering there was a long line and was very busy. I ordered the chicken biscuit with tater tots and it was decent. We are in the city so everything will be over priced. Overall not too bad.
Was first introduced to The Bird at a special event where they were serving their sandwich. Two choices: Spicy or not spicy? And I remember how spicy it was! Now it's a regular spot for me. They made new fans of me and I brought others who became new fans too Menu is simple. Get your burger (or salad!), fries or tots, and a soda! Simple enough right? Also really appreciate them offering $8 "the naked bird" if you want a protein+vegetable option without eating the bun! Which can make for a small light meal if you're on a diet Chicken is JUICY and batter is not too thick, done so well. Comes packed SO neatly in a nice looking bag with the wolf/dog logo! $0.25 for bag. Additional 4% SF mandates fee Cool little spot! with happy hour deals too!
This is my go-to spot for lunch when visiting the MOMA close by. Leaving the museum and heading over for a delicious lunch is key to seeing all the exhibits. Their chicken has a nice crunch while still being flavorful and juicy. The loaded cheesy tots are also a great option if you want something delicious but smaller. The spot had plenty of seating (including a few spots outside) which makes dining in quite easy. It is 100% my first preference when visiting the museum/the area.
This is a fast casual restaurant located in downtown San Francisco. You order with a person or on a tablet. They'll call out your name when your order is ready and if ordered on the tablet you'll receive a text. I was there during a busy lunch hour. I got my food within five minutes. Even if it's crowded they are churning out food quickly. It would be nice if tables were wiped down more frequently and napkins were restocked. But they were busy. There is dining options for inside or outside. On to the food. The chicken sandwich is huge! There was a lot of food. I could not finish. Their food is consistent and tasty. My sandwich had too much mayo for my personal preference so I'd ask for lite next time. Many of the folks who were walking by kept saying how good the food was here! So it's definitely a popular cheap eat in SF. I think for me personally it's a not a spot I would frequent as it is heavy food. But when you're ready for a big meal at a nice price. This is a good spot to pop in.
Came back to The Bird to give it a try after a couple of years. The first time the chicken sandwich didn't hit the spot. I don't remember if it was the normal or spicy but from my old photo, it was drier and didn't have a wet sauce coating. I felt like it had too much of a cinnamon flavor. I'm glad I went back, and for happy hour too which is a plus. This time I got the spicy chicken sandwich. It was packed with flavor, super moist, the one thing I didn't like was how stringy the piece of chicken was. It made eating it a bit tough as it ripped in long shreds. I didn't experience the cinnamon flavor that I didn't like the first time which was good. The curly fries were nicely seasoned but we did get mostly tiny end pieces which made it hard to eat. The mango habanero wings have a nice kick but do lean towards a sweeter and mango flavor. The item I would skip is the apple fritter bites. They were over fried with inconsistent saucing on top. A bit dry and had that old oil taste. The first bite was really not good, the other two were slightly softer and had more drizzle on top. The staff were very nice and food came out quick.
You know from all the fan fare this place has seemed to accumulate I was expecting the best chicken sandwich in the city! But, I regret to inform the yelp community that it might be the worse chicken sandwich I've ever had! It almost had a cinnamon taste to it, the chicken was hard, and stringy. It also just tasted greasy! I also tried the biscuit tender mini sandwich, and that was worse! It was super tough, and inedible.....I literally took a couple of bites, and had these long pieces of membrane in the chicken that tasted like rubber... I also ordered the curly fries, and those were the best part of the meal. Maybe I just happened to come on an off day, but man I was bummed I spent 30 dollars for something that was inedible! I will say the staff were very friendly, and the place was kept very clean on a positive note.
The Bird has the best fried chicken sandwich in the city. At $10.25 for the sandwich and $5.50 for loaded curly fries, it's still a great deal. The chicken is thick and moist. The bun is grilled and pillowy and the coleslaw pairs nicely with it adding crunch and tanginess. The curly fries were topped with sour cream, cheddar sauce, green onions and bacon. A caloric dense meal but oh so worth it. Service is quick too, I got my order in under 10 minutes. Ordering is through a tablet and staffs were friendly.
Came here on a Tuesday night while it was raining outside, so there were very few customers in the restaurant. Was able to place self order using the kiosk right away. Received the original spicy chicken sandwich for dine-in quickly! The slaw, buns, and pickle were nice! The flavor of the sauce and the crunch of the breading were both great, only complaint is the quality of the cut/piece of chicken itself - the meat was incredibly stringy - making for a really hard time in trying to get clean bites out of the sandwich. Bar tables were kept clean and stocked with napkins and wet naps. Love they give water cups to fill up at the fountain. Clean and tidy bathroom. Will always pay a visit when in the area - just wish prices were lower.
Came to The Bird to try their chicken sandwich. Overall the flavor profile was great - I loved the sauce and the onions. The breading on the chicken was also tasty. My only complaint was the chicken was a bit stringy and hard to chew! Otherwise, service was fast and they offer plenty of indoor and outdoor seating in a relatively small place.
The vibe of the place is great to wind down from the busy streets of SF! The staff were super nice and made sure we got our drinks. The spicy fried chicken sandwich was probably one of the best I've had in such a long time! The chicken was crispy, juicy, and really big. Awesome spot, and it's my kind of place. Easy to maneuver. Intimate. Cozy. Full of amazing food. We wandered in for lunch yesterday. It's easy to immediately place your order. The menu is pretty simple to fathom. Easy as apple pie. The turnaround on orders is about 15 minutes. I was immediately impressed with the natural presentation of the chicken. I think it is brined but it is real meat. They have a truly, hearty, good ass chicken sandwich that lives up to competition with any other. It's better than anything you can get at a fast food spot. I love how thick the meat is. I love the pickle selection. I love the sauces. The corn ribs were a little bit dryer than I expected but were still so good. The fries (which I grabbed off of my wife's plate intermittently) were also good. Thank you Yelp Elite and Dominic for giving me this chance to come back to The Bird. I work two blocks from here and haven't been back since the pandemic, so it has been a few years now. I came a little before noon and there was no line. I was greeted by the gentleman at the cashier and I told him I was here for the Yelp event. He immediately checked me in and asked if I had been here before. I told him yes, but I hadn't been back for a few years due to COVID. The menu hasn't changed much since my last visit. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and a fountain drink. I also ordered an order of curly fries, which I was planning to pay for but I was told it was included for this event, which was great. There are plenty of seating spots inside and they also have outdoor seating. I had to go back to the office for a meeting so I ordered my food to go. My order was ready quickly. The fries and sandwich were not soggy when I got back to the office. I was stunned by the size of the fried chicken -- it was huge! The curly fries were crispy and lightly salted just the way I like them. The spicy chicken was definitely spicy so if you don't do well with spicy food, I would recommend getting the non-spicy one instead. You can actually see the chicken and it's 100% not one of those processed chicken patties. Overall, the experience was just like before: friendly, clean, delicious, and quick. Now that I have to go back into the office more often this will for sure be one of my go-to spots. If you drive here, parking can be very hard to find so I recommend walking or taking an Uber during the daytime. read more

Checks the Box, But Won't Blow Your Mind Stopped in with a buddy to grab a quick bite before our final stop of the day. The place is self-service, no-frills, and gets right to the point--order at the counter, grab your own drinks, find a seat. From the entrance to the exit, everything felt minimal and function-first. That's fine, but the energy was low, especially considering how slow it was during our visit. We went with the chicken sandwich and an order of whole wings to share. The sandwich was made with chicken thighs instead of breast, which gave it a juicier, more tender texture. Good call on the cut of meat. But seasoning-wise, it was underwhelming. The slaw dominated the flavor profile--crisp, but too heavy-handed. At $11, it's not overpriced, but also not something I'd go out of my way to get again. We asked if they could cut the sandwich in half--just to make it easier to share--and were told no. Not a dealbreaker, but still disappointing given how slow the kitchen was. A little flexibility would go a long way in improving the guest experience. The wings were solid--crispy skin, well-cooked, but again, no standout flavor. I love this place! Been here many times over the years and it's always been consistently good. The fried chicken sandwich is my favorite. I always order with extra slaw and extra pickle on the side. The chicken is juicy and perfectly seasoned. The slaw in the sandwich has sliced celery and apple pieces, which adds sweetness and brightness to the sandwich. I love the texture over all with the little crunch from the slaw and the acidity from the pickle. 10/10 best fried chicken sandwich would rec every time! For the chicken biscuit sandwich with tots order, i added slaw to it as well. the biggest difference than the regular fried chicken sandwich was that it's smaller, biscuit rather than buns, and that mustard was added. The biscuit was good & properly made, the rest of the components are just as good. So it really just comes down to preference and price (biscuit ver. is smaller and slightly cheaper). Tots are very tasty so I would recommend this too if you're looking for a side. Service was fast and people are friendly. I took public transit here because parking here is not super easy sometimes. LOVE The Bird! This location is on New Montgomery in SOMA. The Bird is owned by the same restaurant group that owns Super Duper Burger. Parking is a little tricky, but we've managed to get lucky all the times we've eaten here. The Bird makes a sensational fried chicken sandwich in classic or spicy, which is SO GOOD, (if you like spicy, get it!) I haven't bothered trying anything else on the menu. The chicken is perfectly fried and basted in spicy buffalo sauce and comes with a simple yet delicious house made apple slaw, pickle, celery and mayo and a freshly baked bun. I believe they also have a chicken biscuit, tater tots, curly fries, one type of salad that can be topped with chicken and Apple fritter bites. I'm probably missing a few other things on the menu, will post a photo of the menu the next time we visit. They also carry a small variety of canned beer and have wine and beer on tap and a few highball cocktails as well. If I remember correctly, I think you can order your food on a touchscreen, otherwise it's counter service and you collect your food when it's ready. The space is somewhat small, with a few counter level tabletops and some seating by the windows. Most, if not all the packaging is compostable! Our first evening in San Francisco, and we needed a bite. I spun the yelp spinner and landed on several eateries that sadly no longer exist, before ot landed on the Bird. A block over and down two, it was convenient to walk to. My husband had their chicken sandwich, and I had their whole wings, original, and they were phenomenal! Basic chicken spot, with a good amount of spice, if that's what you want. Walk in and place your order at the kiosk; enter your info and they'll call your name when it's ready. While waiting for my food, I watched the football game playing on their big screen TV. I love the chicken biscuit with tots, which is a smaller portion at a great price. I love spicy chicken sandwiches, and I had never tried The Bird - so I tried The Bird's spicy chicken sandwich. It was a well made sandwich with good ingredients, but it had 2 major flaws: - It was way too spicy to enjoy - the spice seems to be dusted on, instead of mixed into the batter, which meant I got whiffs of spice dust down my throat every time I took a bite I also got the curly fries, and they were decent. A delicious chicken sandwich to say the least. The spicy sauce was delicious, and they used nice pickles that weren't too strong contrast from the spice. The curly fries might have been my favorite item though, you can't ever go wrong with curly fries. The employees who worked there were all so nice and courteous. I thought the restaurant was decently sized, with a nice pseudo sports bar vibe with some baseball games being projected. My love for fried chicken and fried chicken sandwiches made it hard to walk past the Bird without grabbing one of their sandwiches. It was unusually empty around lunchtime the day I visited and there was a lot of seating available both indoors and outdoors. I ordered the spicy fried chicken sandwich at the kiosk and my order was ready in less than five minutes. I was in a hurry and almost got my order to go, but then didn't want to deny myself the guilty pleasure of a fresh, hot, crispy, and juicy piece of fried chicken, especially on a chilly day in the city. The sandwich was hearty but not overly greasy and the addition of apple slaw to the fried chicken was such a nice touch. The curly fries were good, but aren't all curly fries good? The chicken sandwich was the juiciest fried chicken sandwich I've ever had, but the flavor was a bit lackluster. Be warned that sometimes the heat level of the "spicy bird" seems to vary. Sometimes it's more like a medium heat and sometimes it really is hot. I don't remember how I heard about this place, but the food pictures looked good enough for me to add to my foodie list. The chicken sandwich is made with a boneless chicken thigh, slaw, mayo, and pickle I believe are the condiments on the sandwich. I was a bit disappointed with the taste because the chicken lacked seasoning. Perhaps I should've gotten the hot sandwich, but I wanted to stick with a basic sandwich. The loaded fries were ok, as for service, you order at a kiosk. The staff is available to answer questions and your name is called once your order is ready. You can also dine in, which I did. If I were to return, I wouldn't order the regular chicken sandwich or the loaded fries. I'd order loaded tots and perhaps wings. Our classic has a slight kick to it and our spicy chicken gets a coating our spicy sauce. Most people would probably give the classic a 1-2 out of 10 on the spicy scale. You may have had a spicy instead of classic if it was very spicy.

I just checked because I wanted to do the same. Their website states that delivery and pickup are only available at their Berkeley location. =\ 4/11/19
Is there typically a wait to get a sandwich? If so, how long?
It all depends on the time you come in. During lunch time, we have a long line from 11:30am-1:30pm and your average wait time will be in between 5-10mins only waiting in line, but you’ll have your sandwich in hands within minutes or even seconds…
You said happy hour - when is that and what's the deal? Would love to stop by!
Michael, we have happy hour daily from 4-7pm. Our happy hour consist of $2 wings but there not your average party chicken wings, we serve the whole wing, it’s a huge wing if you ask me. Also, our tall beer cans are $1 off during happy hour.
Does the spicy chicken sandwich has diary and soy?

Is there any way to get The Bird delivered? I checked Caviar and Postmates and on here obviously. Looks like there's no way to have someone bring The Bird to me...
