With so many Vegan places to choose from nowadays I'm not so sure about returning. A nice menu with great variety and the cute design on our coffee were the best parts. Stopped by here to get a to-go order. Excellent customer service. Friendly, knowledgeable about the wide variety of items on their all-vegan, organic menu! When you walk in there is plenty of seating, but the cake case will really catch your eye! There was music on, which was at the perfect level. Yesterday we were at some other restaurant for lunch and had to ask multiple times for the music to be turned down. Even using our 'outside voices' we couldn't hear one another. You won't have that problem here. We ordered the Garden Wrap with the side salad and the Grilled Veggie Wrap with the house potatoes. The Garden Wrap was delicious. You would be surprised at how rare it is to find a wrap ( or sandwich) like this is any restaurant, vegan or not. This had red pepper hummus and the veggies were fresh, bright, & flavorful. The Grilled Wrap was also a hit! I contemplated getting the Posole Soup as well. I was able to have a little sample. While it was delicious with just the right amount of spice for me, I opted to skip it realizing that I didn't want to try eating it on a drive. We added the banana bread to our order. Wow! What I loved about this place was they are vegan and used sustainable products like no plastic straws but compostable ones and silverware, so no plastic there too. We ordered a customized juice, which was good. Ordered a pancake for the kid (no complaints), Huevos Rancheros and Tofu scramble. Oh my goodness! My sister brought me to lunch here last week for the Two Cheese Crepe, and I'm back a week later for another one! The funny thing is I react poorly to sugar and generally avoid the crepe/pancake family altogether, but this dish balances the sweet & savory so perfectly--I literally ate the whole thing & felt fantastic afterwards. At grain cafe, if you DONT get the tuna melt on GF bread - you're missing out. It's like a GF focaccia bun and it's insane!!! It's also the best vegan tuna I've ever had. We came in over an hour before closing. 2 staff members just standing around not doing anything. Presumably at least one cook still in BOH. People were even still dining in. For reference we walked in about ten minutes before 9PM on a Tuesday. As soon as we walked in a young man in front said they were no longer accepting dine-in and only take-out. This is not a grab-and-go establishment, nor a drive-thru. This is a dine-in restaurant. Extremely unprofessional and bad business practices. As someone that works in customer service management, all staff members would've received immediate corrective action. I've been to this business many times at this time of night and this has never happened. I hope management or the business owner is aware of their staff refusing customers. This review is mainly for the club sandwich that I ordered for delivery on Tuesday August 6. I went again to dine in on Thursday August 8. I had not eaten from this place in a few years till this month. I've been vegan for 10 years now. I'm always searching for good vegan eats. I ordered for delivery since I was working and my work is located in Lakewood. I wanted something that wasn't too heavy so I ended up ordering the club sandwich with the side salad. They also gave me two salsas/sauces. The green was mild and did not have much flavor, but the red one was reallyyy good. It was spicy and had good flavor. That one was my favorite. The club sandwich itself was actually pretty good. There was some kind of sauce on the bread or spread and that gave it some good flavor combined with the veggies and the "chicken" that was in it. The bread was good, it was soft. I would definitely order this again. The salad however, was just like a spring mix with some sliced cherry tomatoes. And that was it. I was surprised it didn't come with some kind of dressing. I was kind of disappointed, and was wondering if it was a mistake. Not really sure. In the future I'll probably my update this if I happen to order this again. That's the main reason I gave this 4 out of 5 stars, can't really judge the salad without the dressing so there you go. As for my visit on August 8, that was a different experience. We were a party of three and I got to try various different foods that day. My sister ordered the pico crepe, the pozole, and the horchata. Her favorite item was the horchata. The other two dishes she did not really care for and would not order them again. Pozole was kind of bland, and the crepe just was underwhelming. I ordered the huevos rancheros, the hot maca, and an asada taco and a taco de tinga. The asada taco was bomb and I would order only that one next time. I didn't like the tinga taco at all, I gave that one to my boyfriend to finish. And I would also not order the huevos rancheros again, if you could even call it that. I didn't even finish it. I left most of it on the plate, even the beans. And I could eat beans by themselves for lunch, but these tastes like they came out of a can. The food was also not that hot btw, and neither was my drink which literally has the word "hot" in the name. The hot maca, I thought it would tasted more chocolatey, but it just tasted like steamed coconut milk. Wasn't good. And lastly, my boyfriend ordered a breakfast that contained waffles, chicken?, and hash browns. The hash browns didn't even looked fried. It had no color to it. Just soggy shredded potatoes. The waffles were pretty good, the best thing in that plate to be honest. The chicken was okay. Not bad but not that great. To sum it all up, the things I would go back for are the club sandwich, the asada taco, and the waffles. Sorry I didn't get pictures of the food from my second visit. But I would rate the food from my second visit a 2 out of 5 stars. Thank you. read more

Have you ever wanted vegan food without the vegan taste? The most underrated veggie/vegan restaurant in Belmont heights/Long Beach/ LA. I tried the grilled veggie wrap which includes tofu, eggplant, onions, and bell peppers in a spinach wrap. It's absolutely amazing! It's also a huge portion which makes it so fulfilling. I also ordered their mint lemonade, if you're a fan of a very minty min lemonade (like I am) then this is a treat! Lastly they had a special menu with Mexican dishes including sopes with Soyrizo. AMAZING. I ordered this item as a taste test of the restaurant. I loved it! I bet I could food my ancestors with this delicious version. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking could be tough but it isn't impossible. 11/10 I recommend for breakfast lunch and dinner :) read more

I would only order the potato taco again. Dessert: coconut cake too sweet and kind of plain but moist and tres leches a little dry. I find the coconut flavor does not come through and cakes both tasted like just plain cake and the frosting was a little too sparce and smelled like it absorbed the refrigerator smell a bit. I wouldn't order their cakes again. Portions: very little for the price. Venue: fits about 30 people. Pretty small place. Seating outside available for warm days. Overall, good flavors but would love more veggies or condiments to make portions look bigger. The hot sauce was hot! Note. A BUG IN MY COFFEE !! I've had good vegan quesadillas from this place before, but today, I tried a coffee that was recommended to me, and it came with an entire bug in it! Even though they remade it, I didn't drink it. My appetite was ruined. My vegan breakfast meal with eggs, hash browns, and sausage was fine (not the bacon), except the waffle was fuzzy from the rag used to clean the grill. It had a ton of lint and hair and didn't taste too good. Even when they remade the waffle, it still had fuzz. The greatest issue here is the pieces of bug in my drink, whatever it was! I have previously written a glowing review for the Grain Cafe in LA, but one for this location is overdue. We no longer live in Long Beach, but anytime we go kayaking at Mothers Beach this is my must have lunch spot afterwards. It's been years since I first went to the Grain cafe, but I still get the same exact lunch I always do, because it's just one of my favorite meals anywhere. I get the club sandwich with added avocado, paired with the salad with the house dressing. It's just so perfect. The salad is simple but oh so good, I love their house dressing very much and have been trying unsuccessfully to replicate it at home. The sandwich is nicely presented, and also just such a good combination of flavors. I love the veggie chicken and their tempeh bacon. The cakes are also very tasty. The staff is always very nice, it's just a great place all around and I highly recommend it. read more
