I got a pound of shrimp (head on) and my friend got a pound of crawfish, both were delicious options! I really do recommend getting the kickin' style seasoning, it's definitely the best choice on the menu. I also got corn and potatoes in my bag, you can never go wrong! My friend also ordered the cajun fries, which were yummy. The service was just alright - our server definitely could have checked in with us a bit more often, as we had to get up to the counter and ask for help a couple of times. Also, they didn't automatically give us bibs/gloves off the bat, which I personally thought was strange (based on my experiences at other seafood boil places). Finally gave this place a try (my usual go-to is in Westminster). I was kind of skeptical after reading mixed reviews, but I decided to try it for myself. My experience was based on take-out. They have a parking lot, but some of these people don't know how to park in between the lines and I'm not sure if some of the nearby residence are parked here too, but it didn't seem like a ratio of the customers parked here. Anyway, I came in and made a take out order for combo deal #1, Kickin style, medium spicy. It took approximately 40 mins until I received a text that my order was ready for pick up. Paper mats, lemons, and salt/pepper were also packed in the to-go bag. Everything was cooked cold, not overcooked. The flavor was there, but could've been better. I still prefer the one in Westminster. The only thing I didn't like was the sausage. It didn't have any flavor to it and it had a weird texture to it and didn't taste like how it should be...nonetheless, I'd probably come back here if I'm ever lazy to go to Westminster. read more

I have been going to the Westminster location for years over any seafood bag place. This location in Long Beach opened and I ordered takeout for the first time a few days ago. And let me tell you I will never order or eat at this location. First the parking was atrocious. I had to park blocking a few cars but I tried to be quick with it. Stood in line at the front counter after one person and that person wanted a whole ten minute conversation w the guy up front and when they finished I had to wait a few more minutes for the guy to address me and then was told pick up line was inside the store. Then when I get helped he asks for my ID and credit card I used to pay. Like what? What if I paid w my husbands card and he's not with me? So I had to go back outside to get my wallet and the cars I blocked are turned on waiting to leave at that moment and I said sorry I'll be right back! So I show my cards and get my food cool and go home. I ordered two pounds of different seafood put in two different bags with literally less than half a cup of kickin sauce in each bag. I also ordered fried fish and garlic noodles. Noodles were great as usual thank god. Fish was ok will not order again it was just too dry and small pieces. But what really pissed me off was the shrimp was mushy like it was rotten. And it was the whole bag of shrimp I ended up tossing it and just eating mussels and noodles. The one in Westminster always gives a lot of sauce which I like to pour on top of my noodles. I usually bring my leftovers home and boil eggs to eat it with. Was planning to do that with my to go order but there was barely any sauce on the seafood in the bag. I was so livid with everything I even tipped 20 percent. So now I won't tip until I get my food and get good service period bc they really didn't deserve it at this location paid 100 bucks for this omg. I'll only go to Westminster hopefully they are still amazing over there if not then I'll find a new seafood place so disappointed. read more

First off, I LOVE the taste of the kickin sauce, it's just the right amount of spice & flavor and in my opinion is best at this specific location. The atmosphere of the restaurant is more my preference compared to the location in Westminster, much more clean and bright. This place is the bomb! Excellent service, and very tasty food. I ordered the pound of shrimp/ kickin style, with medium heat and believe me, medium is just right because you'll feel it later on if you go higher with the spicy levels. IMO mild will work with most people. I added sausages, corn and a hard boil egg to make my bag complete for around $40 bucks. Also got a side of white rice to go with it. Rice complimented the shrimp really well and i was in heaven. They have a good amount of parking with a security guard and wheel chair access into the restaurant. They have places to take a photo with a pirate and a chest of gold coin. This location has plenty of inside seating and the floor area is nice and open. So the food, the shrimps were a NICE size and you certainly get a lot on the bag! It took me 2 days to finish it. Everything was great and can't wait to get back here again for the same thing BUT going mild this time. People said i must try the garlic noodles w the shrimp sauce so i will get that next time but that shrimp bag was just awesome! read more

Happy to hear that a Kicking Crab recently opened in Long Beach! They have a parking lot making it easy to find a spot. Only indoor seating available but plenty of tables and booths. I ordered 1lb of shrimp, cajun fries, and steamed rice. - 1lb shrimp - I got the shrimp head on with kick style seasoning. You are only able to order 1lbs no option for half orders. The sauce was savory, garlicky, buttery, and had a nice little kick to it. However, it was thicker that I prefer. Nevertheless, still great and would order again - cajun fries and rice complimented the shrimp really well. Staff was friendly. Food came out quickly but hard to get the staffs attention at times. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and would come again. Also, I noticed that they have a happy hour menu - will need to come back during HH. Tip: they don't provide gloves but they have open sinks outside the bathrooms. read more

Located on the intersection of Pine and PCH, Kickin' Crab is our new favorite place for Viet cajun seafood boil-in-a-bag in Long Beach. It was a dark and dreary night...don't get many of these here, but with the heavy drizzle and being in a part of town that isn't that well lighted, it sure brought to my mind that cliché. We just missed their happy hour on a Wednesday (normally 3 - 6 PM), which wasn't a big deal for us. It wasn't too busy inside, and there is a lot of parking spaces surrounding the restaurant (which had to have been a national fast food chain in a prior life). You need to wait in front to be seated for dine-in, whereas carryout is a different line. Our server was extremely gregarious and let us pick our seat. A sheet of butcher paper was spread on top of the fast food table, and there was a welcomed napkin dispenser at each table. It was very, very cold in the restaurant, so we tried to find seating away from the drafty door and windows. We asked for some ice water, and then ordered from a digital menu on your phone by scanning the QR code on the table. The seafood is all market price, but was comparable to others of this type in the LA. The food came about 10 minutes, and all of it was really good and decent value. They provide plastic bibs, but they don't offer plastic gloves. There are napkins at each table, and are given wet naps at the end of your meal. Each person is also given a small ramekin of salt and pepper, to which you can squeeze fresh lemon wedges into, to create your own fresh lemon pepper dip (they don't offer drawn butter I don't think). You ARE expected to use your hands to eat here, and because the food is so hot when it first comes out, having some calluses at your touch points certainly makes it easier. As for the food itself... Garlic Noodles ($13.99) - probably the one thing that is overpriced, this dish is basically a pile of spaghetti noodles heaped on a paper plate, tossed well in a very garlicy (and delicious) sauce. This is the first time we've tried noodles with our seafood bag, and it's a great combination. An easy substitute would be boil some noodles at home and use the over-abundant take home sauce on it. I also got a small bowl of steamed rice ($2.99), which was also a good accompaniment. A la Carte Seafood Bag ($51.99) - consisting of 2 lbs of head-off shrimp ($18.50 per lb); 3 pieces of corn ($4.50); 1 order of (3) small whole red potatoes ($4.50); 1 small sausage order ($5.99) consisting of 6 slices.. Our choice of sauce was the Kickin style (which is a mix of garlic butter, cajun, lemon pepper, Louisiana) and a spice level of mild. The sauce wasn't chunky, but not too thin either...it stuck (and stained). The shrimp was de-veined, headless and was of good quality...I eat the shell for maximum flavor, but it wasn't too hard to peel the shell off if you so choose. WARNING...their 'mild' is still quite hot...like other place's medium/hot...if you don't want spice, must pick the extra mild level. The corn was from frozen, but was large (half of a cob) and not overcooked. The potatoes had been cooked all the way through, and I really liked the taste, consistency, and natural casing of the sausage chunks. All of us agreed that the sauce was very good, and was now our favorite after the closing of Big Catch. It went great on top of the noodles and rice. By this time I was sweating up a storm (and dreary night), so was kinda glad it was so cold (later we realized that it was warmer outside...so wondering if they had the A/C on?). We flagged down our server, and paid the check at tableside (love those tableside payment devices...your CC never have to leave your hand). There was still plenty of shrimp left, and miraculously the outside of the boil bag hadn't been stained (probably because we ate from the bag and didn't pour the content all over the table)..so just tied it up and used it as our to-go bag. The server gave us some extra lemons. Everything was solid to good with the experience, and we will certainly be back for another round. read more

A couple important things to keep in mind which I didn't really see anyone else mention... is the location is a bit in the hood but the food was worth the shot. We wanted to give it a try and I'm happy we came in and ordered michiladas, for $10 can't beat that. Upon arrival and when we called to check wait time (no reservations at this location) parties over 8 people must pay 18% gratuities. It did put a dent in our check ouch so might not come back with a large party again next time. Also if the gratuity is so high... you would think they would keep the place a bit more tidy... the restrooms were gross and walking to the front of the restaurant there was trash right in front. It was my mom's bday.. I was a bit worried when I seen that. The employees were really sweet though and the food was great so 3 stars. Just needs to be up kept a bit more for a seafood joint. read more
