When in Boston, when in Faneuil Hall, you've got to come to the Oyster Bar! Faneuil Hall was my first stop in Boston after a long drive, and the deal on the lobster roll with chips and a soda at Oyster Bar just can't be beat. For $21, I had a meal that kept me full all day long. The lobster was delicious, and the roll was toasted perfectly. The roll was buttery and had a texas-toast style texture so it had a good crunch to it. The lobster was cool and plentiful, I enjoyed it so much that I hardly ate any of the Cape Cod chips served with it. I was attended very quickly as it wasn't busy, and the staff was friendly. They have bar stools which you could sit on, though there's also plenty of seating throughout the hall and on the second floor. I highly recommend giving Oyster Bar a try if you are overwhelmed with food options in Faneuil Hall! read more

Stopped by for a quick bite while walking through Faneuil Hall. They had a clam chowder for people to sample. The free sample had lots of clams and the paid-for one didn't disappoint either. We also had a lobster roll. While I normally would prefer a cold lobster roll, the warm one was very good. We also had some fresh oysters (which, candidly, I am not really sure how to evaluate other than that they did not have a funky taste and didn't make me sick). Food is good but pricey. I wouldn't pay $25 for a lobster sandwich, even if it is tasty. Service is not good and I regretted paying 15% tips upfront. They wouldn't ask if we need another glass of beer when we finished it. They gave us one napkin (and no fork) for the lobster sandwich. Look, the sandwich is messy and we told you we are going to share the sandwich. Now you gave us one napkin only? Oh boy. Great stuff! Decided to get some dinner in the downtown area, so I stopped by Faneuil Hall. After making a few laps to check out all the other lobster roll stands... I settled on Oyster Bar. Two reasons. 1) It had a lobster roll and clam chowder combo! And 2) The price was better than the competitors. I was so glad I picked Oyster Bar. It was good. And by good I mean great. Had the lobster roll! It was excellent! Great taste on a great roll! I would go time and time again to get that yummy experience. Only part that is bad was how much I paid for a moderately small portion. 20 dollar bill was gone very quickly. The view though from the actual bar was great. I approxahed the bartender for change and he said he could give me $20 and that it wasn't his fault. how do you run a Restraunt with only 2 $20 bills in your till? asking for a friend. This is located in the food court at Quincy Market. This restaurant consists of a small bar area, perfect for a casual, quick bite with a friend. I ordered the mussels and baked oysters with a glass of Harpoon IPA, of course! Both were perfect and fresh. The garlic that was on top of the oysters really accented the sweetness of the oysters. I also really like the mussels in Boston. I believe they are blue mussels rather than green mussels, which are the ones I usually get back in LA. The mussels came with some bread on the side which is perfect to soak up all the delicious mussel juices and the white wine sauce! read more

My friends insisted that this was the BEST lobster roll they've had in Boston. This was the first lobster roll I've ever had, so I have nothing to compare it to. What I do know was that it was incredibly satisfying and delicious! They chop the lobsters into huge chunks (as opposed to tiny pieces) so you could really taste the lobster. It's mixed with some mayo and celery and scooped into a soft baguette. Some places use a heavy hand with mayo, but I didn't think it was the case here. I really enjoyed this roll, but I wish they would have been more generous with the lobster filling considering the hefty price tag they charge per sandwich. Being in Boston, I knew I had to get my Oyster fix, so I also ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell ($14.28) - They shucked the oysters in front of me, and these suckers were huge! I usually prefer smaller oysters because the big ones always tend to be too salty with a more intense seafood flavor. Not these oysters. These suckers were the smoothest "large" oysters I've ever tasted. I squeezed lemon juice on them, topped them with a bit of horseradish and cocktail sauce, and it was perfection. This place is definitely super touristy, but hey, I'm a tourist so I decided to go there. I'm a sucker for clam chowder and lobster rolls. This place was absolutely fantastic. The lobster roll was delicious, though I would've liked the bread to be toasted. The filling for the sandwich had a ton of lobster and the perfect dressing to match with it. And the clam chowder is amazing, as good as New England clam chowder gets. I talked with the owner a bit about the name of the restaurant. It shares the same name with a pretty popular restaurant in Seattle. The owner of this place acknowledges that the restaurant in Seattle is really good but claims that they stole the name. Got the lobster roll combo with a small clam chowder ($20) and a clam chowder bread bowl ($8). Out of all the places I sampled clam chowder in the food area, this place tasted the best. Clam chowder is served super fast, and is at the right creamy texture. Not too runny and not too thick. The bread for the bread bowl is freshly baked I believe and is crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. I like that since other places, their bread is all soft and not appetizing at all. The lobster roll was ok I guess, I felt a bit bummed out eating it since it was cold. I thought it was hot. I also didn't like the pickle bits mixed in, not my thing. What made me a little upset was when I bit into a lobster shell piece. Since it was my first time in Boston, I had to try a 'famous' lobster roll for myself. I have got to say the hype is not wrong. It was even better than I expected! Of course there were many to choose from it being in the historic Quincy Market location, but when I saw this place I had to order and quick! I was on a time constraint being on a tour and all and I needed food FAST! The lobster roll took a little time to get but it was worth it! You have to go try it yourself! I can't describe in words how good it actually is. The New England clam chowder was a bit sandy for my liking, but what do you expect in a tourist area? Sigh... My only complaint is the staff was a little rude. Not to me but to a previous customer in front of me. She was in a hurry and wanted a lid for her soup along with some napkins. I quite enjoyed my food here. Honestly, this place is a 4.5, mostly for the service. The food was excellent too though. Essentially no wait. Ordered: - Lobster Roll. It was different than Yankee Lobster, which was giant chunks of lobster. This lobster was more of a lobster salad (mayo, etc). Not as much meat, but the roll was quite tasty. - Lobster Bisque. This was a great tasting lobster bisque honestly. Maybe a tiny bit salty, but the dish it had such a great wine fragrance to it which complemented the lobster stock so well. It was pretty tasty. Bonus: The younger guy serving me was a pleasure honestly. When I asked him on his opinion on whether to order the Lobster Bisque or the Chowder, he said, why don't I let you try them both, and poured me a healthy amount of each to taste them. Not sure why we got picked on but the guy working there at 6:40pm was RUDE, MEAN & RACIST!! we saw available stools and tried to help ourselves to get seated. Man behind bar rudely yelled at me to not touch them and then I asked where should we sit then? He said "I don't know, wherever , I'm busy now.. wherever you want" in front of other customer in front of him. His attitude and demeanor clearly did not want to serve us, but was it necessary to yell and make us feel so unwelcome and treat me like I'm some ignorant foreigner who should not be stepping into his establishment?! It was absolutely uncalled for and I was quite shocked by the moment especially after years of patronage as a returning Bostonian. This place has hit rock bottom for me and my friends who were visiting town. Never seen such a classless server behind a counter before. Not sure if the owner cares about customer service and reputation if he's got workers like this a#%hole I had the unfortunate encounter with running dinner hours. Still on a search for amazing clam chowder in Boston...BUT this place did have some pretty tasty lobster bisque! You have to give this place credit for being brave enough to have free samples of their chowder out for anyone to try. This is what lured in my friend Sarah who was visiting and wanted some clam chowder while she was here. It was pretty good chowder, but still not the most amazing thing in the world. We sat down and this tiny bar restaurant in the food court here had good service. We got free water, but I was sad they only had canned sodas because that means no free refills! I asked for a sample of hte bisque and decided that was what I wanted way more than their chowder. It was hard not to gobble it all down. The chowder Sarah got was too hot for her to eat so I just got to sit there enjoying my bisque while she sipped on her diet coke instead ha ha The prices here are a little high for some of the sandwiches and stuff, and my bowl of bisque and my diet coke was almost $10 so definitely not cheap food court food....But I guess you have to pay more for seafood, right?? While I've had bread bowls before, I was sure my friends had not. And sure enough, their curiosity was piqued when I pointed out the bread bowls to them. I have to admit, it's a pretty smart idea to serve something gimicky like bread bowls at a tourist-filled place like Qunicy Market. Along with lobster bisque and clam chowder bread bowls, they also sell lobster rolls. But I already had both a lobster roll and a lobster bisque the day before, but hadn't eaten clam chowder on my Boston trip yet, so I ordered the clam chowder bread bowl. They had the clam chowder ready to serve in a pot, as well as the bread cut in the right shape for a bread bowl. Upon receiving our orders, the lady who was serving the food filled out a bread bowl with clam chowder, put it on a plate, and set it in front of me. The chowder was delicious. There was plenty of clam meat, and the chowder itself was satisfyingly thick. But it didn't exactly rise above the rest, especially in New England. As usual with bread bowls, a small mess was made near the end of the meal. The remaining chowder became dipping sauce for the rest of the bread that hadn't been consumed. Overall this was a three-star meal. I would go definitely back though. Unlike a lot of the food places in Quincy Market, they actually have seating. And also, I love clam chowder. read more

One thing that has stayed the same is the quality of the cherrystones. The guys have clearly held on to their clam provider. I have never had better any where. As my friend was describing the roll on our way there, I was picturing a gigantic roll but it ended up being about 7" long... kind of like a smaller frame cheesesteak sandwich. The balance between lobster chunks and mayo is perfect leaving you not too overwhelmed by either. I got the roll with a side of lobster bisque (talk about overload) and my boyfriend got the clam chowder. I prefer the later not just for contrast but because it's amazing! Thick, hearty, creamy.
