We got a table after a modest 5 minutes wait and were attended to by a fast and friendly young blonde lady. Our iced teas were never empty and the appetizers and pizza came out at just the right time intervals -- great service and a solid kitchen. We had the baked clams and mussels marinara and both were good. Some of the mussels could have been cleaned better but just a few. The four baked clams were tasty and a good size. The mussels were very good and we used the leftover sauce for dipping bread (and pizza!). We ordered a large pizza - half blanco and half spinach. Both halves were excellent - thin but soft crust, good seasoning. We left one slice, but without apps the large isn't quite enough for two, -- as it was we both left very satisfied. The check was reasonable for PJ during the crowded summer months but I wouldn't be as happy to pay $55 for apps and pizza on the off season. read more

A little expensive but is typical lf Neapolitan style pizza. The sauce was excellent, the crust had the right crispiness to doughiness ratio and the mushrooms were cooked well. Delivery: There is a 5$ delivery charge no one told me about which really annoyed me because I had already tipped the driver before I realized (I paid with credit over the phone). Also when I opened the pizza, it was cold. I appreciate that the manager ran out another pizza to us herself within 20min. That pizza was hot and delicious. I visited The Pie with my cousin and had a really great time. The location is convenient as it is right across from the municipal parking lot at the Port Jefferson marina. The experience was unique being that we are in the middle of a pandemic, however- the staff made it pleasant and it felt like just another day. Although we only ordered wine and a DELICIOUS margarita pie, it was good enough for me to want to return and try more of their menu items. The food was simply amazing. Started with the family antipasto, fresh fruit with jelly fig spread, hard cheeses, cold meats, and pickled veggies. The tomato and blue cheese soup is delicious, just the right amount of blue cheese - not overpowering. We also order two pies, The Rustico and The Buffalo. Piping hot so give it a couple moments before you sink your teeth into it. There was a generous helping of topping slathered on the pie which was absolutely delicious. As I stepped through the door, I was immediately greeted and sat. After a respectful few minutes, my waiter returned, to offer his service and a suggestion or two if needed. I ordered a small Margareta pie with coffee and water. A few minutes later it was on my table. The dough had that perfect 'brick oven' crisp. The sauce was beautifully balanced to provide flavor without overpowering the pizza. The cheese was beautifully melted to that just bubbling, just golden state. The basil was there, but felt more like an accent than a staple to the pizza. All in all, it was great service and delicious pizza. Bottom line: The lack of basil is knit-picking. The food was pretty good, nice portions and came out quickly. Our issue lies with the staff. The hostess was excellent, she was super nice and helpful. Our waitress was just plain rude. She never said hello or anything, just took our drinks and walked away. She only came to the table to get our drink order and our food order, never again. To add it to, getting her attention was near impossible and she rolled her eyes when we asked for napkins (because we never received ANY). I've been here a few times, usually with at least four tweens and teens in tow. My kids and their friends love the pizza at The Pie and our dining experiences here have always been great - until Thursday, December 26th. I usually eat pizza with the kids, but this time decided to get a salad instead. The first couple bites were good and then on my third bite I dug my fork in deep to get lots of greens. As I chewed I felt a hair stretch across my tongue. I stopped chewing and went to pull it out of my mouth; it was a long hair, about 8 inches long. I spit what remained in my mouth into a napkin and called over the busser to please remove the dish. I was so grossed out. A manager-type person came to our table immediately to offer a another salad or another dish. I declined, as I was just too put-off and didn't want anything from the kitchen at that point. I was polite and understanding about it, and I explained that, "I get it, it happens," but the hair was just too long and I'd lost my appetite. As I sat without a meal, the others at the table seemed to feel rushed because I wasn't eating. I grabbed a pizza crust from my daughter and gnawed on that so all could eat at a relaxed pace. When the check arrived, I was confused as to why the medium pizza cost more than the large pizza. The manager-type explained that their regular pizza is called a "margarita" and adding the pepperoni brought the price of the medium pizza higher than the large. This was confusing to me, and from the body language and tone of voice of the manager-type, incredibly exasperating for her to explain. The others at my table were also not understating her explanation and one commented she "kept talking in a circle, not really explaining it!" The salad was rightfully taken off our check. What surprised me was - considering I didn't dine with my kids as I had intended - the manager-type did not offer to take anything additional off our check or even comp a dessert. As the adult at the table, I was obviously the one paying for the meal for our party of six. I was disappointed in how our situation was handled. The lack of initiative to ensure we ALL walked away satisfied, and how this woman chose to make her frustration apparent to me with her tone and physicality, was not pleasant and didn't make me feel good about spending money at this establishment. read more

I was promptly put on hold, and was able to drive there before anyone had answered, so I hung up. Upon arriving there, I found a practically empty restaurant, with the entire waitstaff just hanging out at the back... So WHY WAS I PUT ON HOLD? I considered just walking out, but instead placed my order which was prepared quickly. However, upon arriving home, I found that my pizza was sauceless with raw onions, rather than caramelized. This was NOT a confusing order. So, while it tasted fine, it was not what I wanted. So I decided to try my garlic knots, which are neither knots or garlicky. We ordered a order of garlic knots - Okay and needs more cheese and garlic on top 1. Margarita Pie - Good pie and just needs more whole basil 2. Supreme Pie - A Carnivore dream, great amount of different meats 3. Di Parma Pie - well made and tasty This was a fun place to eat, not my typical choice when it comes to pizza. I did enjoy it and would make a few more trips back to try Neapolitan Pizza. Dessert of Brownie sundae ala mode was good. Deep friend ice cream was also good. Ok, so here's the deal. This place has excellent margarita pizza! However, we had 2 issues at our last dining experience. 1. The waiter- a younger waiter name Christopher picked up my wife's dinner plate while she was still eating. The plate contained one slice on it with 2 bites into it. There should be some type of training where the wait staff ask before they remove someone's plate. Minus 1 star 2. My wife and I having been to Italy, enjoy ordering Italian wine. We ordered one of their Chanti region wines. First of all, he brought the bottle to the table already opened which is no good, wine should be opened in front of the customer but second and more importantly the wine was obviously watered down. I can't for the life of me imagine why this restaurant that seems to do good business, would dilute the wine. Just to be sure- and make sure we weren't crazy, when we got home we opened a bottle of one of our Chanti wines. The wine was rich and thick and there was a clear difference in taste between the restaurants diluted bottle of wine and what the real thing should taste like. - Minus a second star for the wine In summary, the margarita pizza is great. Stop in for that and move along. Steer clear from the diluted wine or at least insist that the waiter open the wine bottle in your presence to ensure the wine isn't tampered with. We sat down, and after having a confusion procession of staff talk to us, a woman took our drink order. We said that water was fine and she asked if we would like bottled water, both of us were tired so we just agreed and thought nothing of it. A few minutes later we got our bottled water...that was already open. Not open like, "here let me make this easier for you", open like: "Wait, a second did I just pay for bottled Port Jefferson Village tap?". We did pay for that and the pizza that came after was good but really not worth the pricetag attached. While we were eating the wait staff literally took things off the table the second we finished eating. I like fast service but this was enough to make you nervous. First time ever eating here a few weeks back. Really not sure what took me so long. Definitely not making that mistake twice. My husband and I opted on take-out due to our kids already having eaten and did not feel like making them sit through our eating. I ordered a large Margarita style pizza and my husband got the supreme with mushrooms as opposed to peppers... Margarita Crust had a very nice texture with a very subtle hint of flavor. When The Pie opened it claimed to be the Frank Pepe's of Long Island. Frank Pepe is a very old pizzeria in New Haven CT.Frank Pepe uses coal fired ovens to produce a pizza that has a thin crispy crust that cannot seem to be re-created any other way. The Pie did a pretty good job of producing a product that was similar to Pepe's. The Pie was sold a few years later and my favorite choice, Clams Casino pie was immediately dropped. Sometime later they brought it back. Well moving forward the pizzas they made after that were not as good but OK. We stopped frequenting the place. About a year ago we decided to try The Pie again and ordered a couple of pizzas for take out and were quite disappointed. Having short memories we tried The Pie again last night and what we got was awful. They no longer have the Clams Casino pizza and suggested Clams Oreganata Pizza and it was tasteless. a Pomodoro Pizza that had almost no sauce and a Fungie Pie that was soggy but would have been good if the crust was cooked properly. You won't hear me suggest chains often but Anthony's Coal fired pizza that has a few locations on Long Island is a better choice. The Pie's menu has been removed from our take out drawer. read more

My husband & I wanted some quick late-night snacks & a drink while visiting my parents on Long Island. The Pie was open & packed, so we took that as a good sign & took the plunge. All was going well at first: we were seated, given menus, and someone came & took our drink orders & brought our drinks. However, that's when everything came to a halt. No one came back to get our food order. Tables started clearing out around us & not only was our server MIA, but none of the others were around either. About 20 minutes later another server showed up at the table next to ours & I overheard him telling them that the kitchen would be closing soon... Needless to say we called him over & explained that we had been waiting nearly 1/2 an hour to order. He came back a couple minutes later to say that not only had our server forgotten about us, he was too embarrassed to come back to our table! Tim took over from there & was super efficient, but efficiency cannot save bad food. The Caesar salad was decent, but I prefer freshly grated Parmesean and it was missing pepper. The fried calamari were almost definitely frozen -like tasteless rubbery rings, which is a real shame when you're on a coast and at an Italian restaurant. A dusting of basil didn't hide their frozen origins. The "garlic aoli" that they came with was inedible, like someone mixed in garlic with Hellman's and let it sit around for a while. Finally, the mussels tasted funky, NOT funky-fresh, but funky like you start questioning where they're from, how they're prepared, and how long they've been around. They were swimming in the exact same sauce that came as a side with the calamari. The food here was not worth the price and the service, aside from Tim, was embarrassing. read more

The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the pizza was burnt on the bottom. So that ruined the overall taste. I dont think it should be served if its burnt. That was a disappointment. I just hope next time I go, the pizza isnt burnt. But one great thing they do now, or maybe always did but the waiter only told us about it this time, is that you can make the pizza half and half. The Pie always does a great job. It's there at the back of the restaurant, this huge brick oven into which every pizza is thrown moments before it comes to you, steaming hot and ready for the eating. If you want a traditional Neapolitan pizza, this is the place for you. Pizzas abound, but their other menu items are nothing to scoff at. Pasta and parmigiana, salads and seafood, it's all here. Their fried mozzarella is a whole slice about 3-4 inches in diameter lightly battered and fried. Their garlic knots taste heavenly, even if they're a bit too oily. A good wine selection accompanies the menu, as well as their 3 tap beers from Brooklyn Brewing, the brown ale being my usual. And their service is typically quick, which makes it a great hour-lunch stop. Now if only they'd put pineapple on their pizzas... read more
