Two friends and I stumbled upon The Source Cafe while searching for a bite to eat after a relaxing afternoon at the beach, and wow! We were so impressed. JUICES - Healthy Glow (apple, carrot, orange) "anti-aging" juice: Tasted just like all three of the juices and none of the flavors were too overpowering. Not too sweet and very refreshing. - Royal Root (Beets, watermelon, lemon) "energizing" juice: My favorite out of the three. The beet and watermelon juice go together SO well and the lemon keeps it from being too sweet. - Green Party (Kale, green apple, spinach, romaine, celery, cucumber, parsley, lemon, ginger) "anti-inflammatory" juice: Tasted kind of like a salad in juice form. The celery, parsley and ginger flavors really stood out. I can see a veggie juice person really loving this one, although I preferred the sweeter juices. FOOD - Farro Salad: Light, yet filling and a wonderful combination of veggies. I'm a big fan of farro and they get it just right here. Definitely something I could see myself making at home. - Smoked Trout open-faced sandwich: AMAZING. The smoked trout had the perfect flavor and texture. It's served in tablespoon-sized dollops on a slice of tomato with vegan aioli on little slices of baguette. The only downside is the small portion. I could eat this all day. - Turkey panini: Juicy turkey with fontina cheese, avocado, spinach and garlic aioli. A solid panini with a good mix of flavors. DECOR/CLEANLINESS - The decor was very quaint and perfect for a beach town. The juices are served in mason jars and the food served on small wooden boards. Very earthy and reflective of the healthy theme of the cafe. - Bathrooms and tables were all very clean. - Trash and recycling separate - yay for being green! The only downside is that it is pricey. For me, my Healthy Glow juice was $8 and the farro salad was $8...$16 total is pretty pricey, although understandable for the location and quality of ingredients. What a pleasant surprise finding this place in Hermosa Beach! We were planning to lunch at a neighboring restaurant that happen to be closed, so we impulsively found this place along Pier Avenue which was absolutely wonderful. I ordered the burrata panini which included perfectly toasted bread, tomato, pumpkin seed basil pesto and a side green salad that came with a tasty tangy balsamic dressing. My fancy green iced tea came in a mason jar which I loved. I usually had to travel to Santa Monica, Larchmont or Silver Lake to find a place like this. A very cute, and cozy cafe. Lots of healthy and natural foods and drinks. Went on a Friday morning to find it a little packed, but found seating easily. My friend and i chose to try their veggie panini and wrap. They were both bomb but my only downfall is that the wrap is labeled "spicy" and to my surprise was not even a mild hint of it :( we both had the matcha lattes (one hot and one iced) and again, very bland. For a matcha drink, it was very weak, it seems they don't add enough matcha or hint it with matcha for the color lol. And I know my fair share of matcha. I'm not big on sweeteners so it beinh unsweetened was fine, but it def. needs more matcha. Kudos to presentation. What's Cooler Than Being Cool Today I went to this eating establishment and purchased two items. The first of these two was a glass of ice water. I have two main critiques, too watery and too icy. "Too watery?" you might ask but that is the only way I can describe it. Just too much water man. Secondly I could go so far as to say that the water was too cold. I love this place. We drive up from PV to have brunch here and I come any other chance I get too. Great food and drinks, nice atmosphere (loud from the blenders but that's part of the charm), with high chairs for kiddos, easy parking, nice patio seating, and lovely staff. The only thing I would change is to add (pastured) scrambled eggs so my toddler can have something more kid-friendly, AND some more low-sugar smoothie options because green smoothies are one of the only ways I'm able to pack greens into both my and my son's diets. Hmmm, the Source Cafe. Where do I start? I was cruising down the road, and I saw this place. I just had to stop, robotically feed the meter, and poke my head in for a look-see. They have a lay back beach city style decors, people hang out, grab lunch during work day, treat themselves and their dogs, and take an awesome juice to cleanse. I was starving, so I went with the turkey panini. It was delicious to the eye and the taste palates. The side salad was green to the point. The panini was a bit too buttery to my taste--which I don't really like butter at all, so don't mind me. The latte, now coffee is my specialty :) I drink so much coffee, I think Starbucks ought to offer me a position. The barista offered a variety of flavors for the latte, whole milk, non-fat, soy, almond--nothing special, wait, did she just say coconut milk? I've never had a coconut latte. Overpriced and if you care about the environment, please boycott until they change their practices. Overnight, they increased the price of their smoothies from $10 to $12. $12! I asked why such an increase and was told that the reason they increased the price is because they now use glass bottles instead of plastic (I'm guessing that they pretend they care about the environment...lie). Here's their hypocrisy: Prior to this price increase, I have brought my observation up to management. Half the time you drive by or walk by you will notice that their employees sit in their cars eating or talking/surfing the web on their phones while their car engine idles.... for long periods of time. I noticed this on several occasions (and if anybody isn't aware, that's bad for our AIR QUALITY when clueless people do this). You add up all the morons that do this throughout the city and it's just terrible. Makes me sick. Go outside if you just want to waste time on your phone! Duh.... we have good weather if anybody hasn't noticed. Anyway, I talked to a manager about it and her response was that "we don't really have an area for our employees to sit in so they use their cars." Here's a solution: Allow them to take their breaks when it's not busy (and I'm sure that's the time of day that they would normally give their employees a break anyway).... allow them to sit in a corner table. When I was young and worked in a fast food joint, we were able to sit at the regular tables- we didn't need a special break room).... it's better than contributing to poor air quality, don't you think?! I just can't stand hypocrisy. If you take pride in being pro-environment, then do all that you can.... not just charge extra for bottles. I'm sure those bottles don't cost them as much as they raised the prices for anyway. In addition, they claim they are so healthy but how do we really know? If they don't care about the health of the environment, then they don't care about the health of people (we are a packaged deal, right?). This may be my favorite cafe in LA. Embodies exactly why Hermosa Beach and the South Bay has stolen my heart. Answers any caffeine fix and has tons of healthy food/drink options. I recommend the vanilla latte for those who enjoy something smooth and on the sweeter side. yes, they do cafe/coffee designs. Ambiance is unmatched. Open area filled with natural light, comfortable seating perfect for spending a few hours getting work done. They have outlets! A great place to catch up with friends and/or take someone who's visiting the area. The staff is friendly and the customers who visit are warm and friendly. People will smile with you and say hello. It's a bit loud just from the blenders at time, but it gives you even more of an excuse to post up outside and enjoy the weather. The smoothies are pretty heavy I've heard. My one qualm with this place is the fact that the prices are fairly high and there is very little seating, particularly during busy hours. I found a seat after a few minutes and there are signs on the tables that say only stay at a table for 1 hour or less which is good as it frees up some tables. However, there are lots of people on their computers with a juice. Maybe it has grown more quickly than originally thought. I can definitely understand why. The place is natural, organic, and has a breezy, sunny feel to it with lots of stores nearby to window shop and walk in. It's also a short walk to the beach.
