Chuck has been diligently working to make adjustments during COVID and so thankful that he is a local brewmaster experimenting with some new brews. I love going to this brewery in one of my favorite places on earth. Beer is good, and the bartender was amazing. My wife and I met some friends there and stayed and had several drinks. It was coming close to closing time, but the bar tender said that we could stay a little longer since we were still in there having drinks. This is a great brewery/tap room. We went in while visiting Morrow Bay and were surprised to learn that the location is steeped in history as a once private sea aquarium. There are interesting old signs and artifacts and a cool bar made out of pennies. Their local brew was excellent. You will be lucky if you get AJ as your bartender as he is a local with a wealth of knowledge about the location and the town. read more

We came in here to check out this newer to us micro brewery. It is really small but has a very laid back vibe with plenty of seating, games to play and a few TV's to watch. The beer was decent but the interactions with the employees were really strange and unwelcoming. My husband asked the guys behind the counter "so what are your beers?" "They are on the TV screen up there" "Ok what do you recommend?" "They are on the TV screen up there" "What is your flagship beer?" "They are on the TV screen up there" It's like they didn't want to be bothered explaining their beers or having any sort of conversation about the different hops or favor profiles or anything. We were just directed to the TV screen menu. I've had a bartender explain guest tap beers more than these guys wanted to explain their own beers. There was no sense of excitement about their beers and wanting to share any information about them. I guess for a start-up, I was expecting that more. Their lack of enthusiasm about their beers certainly doesn't make me want to come back and try more. read more

My favorite place for beer tourism this trip. It is a nano-brewery, meaning very small batches. To get an idea, most small micros brew in 5 barrel (10 keg) or 8 barrel batches. This was 2.5 to 3 per batch, so very small in comparison. On the negative, they could run out of your fave, but on the positive, this means a lot of choices on the menu. And, while nobody does everything great, I was impressed how well they did when swapping styles. I let the bartender choose my flight (as I normally do, and I was impressed, even with styles I am not normally fond of). My fave brew was a black IPA called Black Hill Black IPA, which was just tapped the day before (got to log it on Untappd). Usually Black IPAs are the boring twin sister of an IPA, but this one has a very bold nose with a nicely balanced middle that smooths out completely at the end. The place also serves food, but it closes 1/2 hour before they do. I would definitely make this place a haunt if I only lived in Morro bay. read more

Man all I can say is great beers, great food and great service! This place has recently changed hands and the new owner is a beer guru and connoisseur! I live in North Morro Bay and am a few blocks away. When this place originally opened I was pretty excited. When the hours were inconsistent and they kept having trouble brewing the beer I was worried! Then it was listed for sale. Closed for about a month. Now that the new owner opened with his own beer this place is booming! If you are reading this review, do not hesitate to come here, have some awesome local beer, some great food and some cool local conversation! Have a very local vibe. There us a TV and music playing and the ambiance is very laid back and cool! There is a slight ocean view and perfect weather 360 days a year, what more could you ask for 3 stacks and a rick is for sure a 5 star business with 5 star owners who care about their customers and the business!! read more

We have been coming here for exactly a year. A few months ago 3 Stacks closed for about six weeks. Since the re opening I have noticed the owner is no longer on site. I asked if they sold it because I didn't recognize anyone and I was told it was still owned by the same people. Tonight we went in for a meal and had a second half order to go for the kids. Outside were three of the loudest drunks I have heard in a long time. One of them had a dog that was urinating on all of the barrel tables and potted plants. We still moved over there to get away from the loud drunken vulgarity. When I went in to ask the lady who took our order about the problem she threw it back on me and said she can't hear it. We ended up changing the whole order to go to get away from the loud F bombing drunks I kept smelling something disgusting and after looking around I saw a huge pile of dog crap by the table. When we got home the pulled pork sandwiches were dry and the fries were cold. We live three blocks away One bright spot was the extra order of parm fries were hot and fresh. As locals we go there once or twice a month spending $50- 150 a month. Not anymore. This place has gone downhill fast. read more

My husband and I highly recommend Three Stacks and a Rock Brewing Company! Their new location is open now on the Embarcadero at the old aquarium site. We are both so lucky to live close to the new location. Now we can drink Chucks delicious beer anytime. The food looks amazing. We enjoyed a delicious locally made pretzel with our Marine Layer IPA. I'm sure we will be enjoying more of the yummy food options soon. If your looking for a relaxing environment with great views of the rock keep walking on the Embarcadero and you will find this gem! Omg! The beer here is pretty good what really sold me was the food! It's mainly hot dogs they have all kinds of different options & also include veggie. My wife's a vegan so that was a plus. PLEASE try the hot dogs! So good the buns were amazing everything tasted perfect! We also split a pretzel and got our dog the pup dog which is a hotdog no bun cut up on a paper boat he loved it. I can't wait to come back!! The view also is amazing but anyway, try the Coney Island dog AMAZING. Service was good too very quick! read more

Was in town on vacation and decided to swing by for a flight. Great attentive bartender. Service was quick and the beer was good. The one beer in my flight that really stood out was the Roundabout DIPA - a west coast ipa just dripping in hops. I recommend these guys over the other brewery down the street - much better service, much better beer. read more

Came here for the first time Friday night 2/3. The place looks great! They have plenty of seating with tables and chairs, benches, and barrels for table tops with little succulents for decoration. They have a tv as well. The beer selection is great! They don't currently have the licensing to pour their own brews, but soon will I hope. My favorite was the java blanca by Central Coast Brewing. It's a light beer with the aroma of coffee. Nice to have a light beer with the flavor of a dark. They have one wine and one cider as well. The menu consisted of mainly snacks/pub food. The BBQ popcorn was cool for $2 a bowl. The cheesy tater tots were pretty good. I'd like to go back to try some of the other things on their menu. One of our new favorite places!! During our last visit to Morro Bay in October, we saw that Three Stacks had moved to the Embarcadero (where the aquarium once was). It was packed, so we didn't get to try it then, but on our visit last week, we made up for that with two great experiences! My husband's the beer drinker, and loved the Norm Lager. The wonderful Ryan, who made us feel so welcome and served us during both visits, even offered to let my husband sample other beers (they brew all craft beers on-site) before deciding. The menu includes snacks and "gourmet" hot dogs. We had the Coney Island (great chili) dog and the Pretzel Brat (which comes with a side of cheese sauce). Both were filling and terrific. Lots of seating, both high tops and regular tables, but if you can, sit at the bar and check out the countertop covered in pennies. The outside patio was open, but covered due to the weather, but looked like a great place to hang out, with a view of the bay, when the sun's shining. What I especially liked is that whether it's families, pets, or seniors like us, they make everyone feel welcome. I also loved the names of two beers, named after the owners' dogs: The Pudgy Nudger and Darby Red. I knew I'd found a new "home" with the Darby, which was also the name of my beloved late pup. Live locally and walked into this establishment at 5:48 yesterday(Mother's Day) noting that they closed at 6:00. Mom wanted a beer, daughter and I wanted pretzels. Bartender said she just closed. 10-12 people in there drinking fresh beers and eating food. Bye, bye Three Stacks... forever. Hi Chuck, thank you for your quick response allowing me to see your side a bit. It might have sounded more hospitable if the bartender had explained that she just announced last call instead of saying she just closed with a bunch of people inside with full beers. One beer and two pretzels would have lasted four minutes in my family's hands. We were aware of closing time and intended to respect that. I know business can be tough on the North end of Morro Bay. Sorry for being a bit harsh in my review. I was just kind of surprised to see an establishment that certainly has its slow days so eager to turn away business. Beer made from scratch....and it's good. Three Stacks is under new ownership and brewing their own suds to pair with their homemade spuds. I started with the Smash Pilot- single hop pale ale. Well balanced and clean. You simply can't go wrong with Columbus hops. My friend tried the Double IPA Rock Hammer. At 8.5% it will certainly get you hammered. My favorite was the Chocolate Porter. Rich and delicious without being overly sweet. The new owners replaced the tater tot menu and now offer brats, pretzels, truffle fries, and housemade chips. The chips came with housemade ketchup and aoli for dipping. Rumor has it Three Stacks is working on extending the front for patio seating. Comfortable pub. Pleasant local vibe. Great beer. read more
