It is our first time to try and we're super excited. The food is great and the portions are big. The service is good and they refilled our side dishes several times. My kids really loved it. The only issue is the mid-age lady told me that I had to order a 3-meats combo because we are a family of 4. (2 adults and 2 kids). She said this is the minimum option for me. I am recently on a diet that usually don't have a lot of food in the evening, but she insisted that I can't order a 2-meat combo, unless I am adding an individual order. And of course I ended up ordering a 3 meats combo and I had to take home a lot of leftovers. I hope they can put this requirement on their menu in the future so we will know in advance. Lovely KBBQ place, great combos with a hearty portion sizes. Note some meats will come cooked already (so it's not made fresh), but that did not detract from the lovely meal. Order first before being seated so they know exactly what to bring you. Menu is setup as a bunch of combo sets to make it easier to order. Staff came by to help us grill because we were very slow and the meat was starting to char. They also offered refills on the side dishes every time they stopped by, especially noting the ones that were finished as favorites. All in all, super affordable and easy KBBQ place, great portion sizes and good food. ToBang has long been a popular Korean restaurant in Santa Clara. Located on the outskirts of Koreatown by Santa Clara Central Park, it's a popular sit down family restaurant. I've been here both before the pandemic and after the pandemic and it's always been busy. Let's see if it lives up to the hype. (Spoiler alert: it does) FOOD ToBang simplified their menu after lockdown; they have organized everything into Specials, which are basically combos. Differences between the specials are usually the amount of meat; the smallest combo trades off fried rice for a soup. Special-D can feed up to 4 people, Special-A can feed up to 6; Special-B goes up to 8 and Special-C goes up to 10. There is a LOT of food and a lot of different banchans. If you order any of the raw meat options, you will be given a table that has a grill and you can cook the meat to your liking; the servers will help you with this as well. Side dishes can be refilled whenever you like. They also usually run bonus customer appreciation events as well during certain times, so check those out too. You can't really go wrong with any of the meats you choose. Meat quality is great for a family restaurant. We like to get a mix of cooked and uncooked meat; my go-to's are beef belly and bulgogi. Come hungry. SERVICE If there are people and you have to wait, you first add your name to the waiting list; talk to the server in the front to get added. Once they are ready for your party and your entire party is there, they will take your order and then seat you. Your food will come out as it is ready. If you need anything, flag down a server. When you are ready to pay, the servers will bring you your check and then you pay at the front as you leave. Service is pretty good here for a family restaurant. The servers will come by and check on you. They are usually all ajummas so they usually get straight to the point, but they know how to get things done which is a huge plus in my opinion. COST The best part of this restaurant is the sheer amount of food you get for what you pay. The cheapest option runs $52 and can feed up to 4 people, which is $13 a person before tax and tip. If you really want to min-max your dollar here, I recommend loading up on the banchans, but at this rate, you won't have to. SETTING Standard Korean family restaurant decor. Love the vibe here as it really feels like a family restaurant. Parking might be an issue in this plaza as it gets pretty packed. You might have to street park or park at Central Park if the parking lot is busy. Otherwise, this place is great for families or getting together with friends. KBBQ is always great for dates in general too, provided you don't mind getting your clothes smelling like BBQ. This place gets very busy on weekends. Took my boyfriend here, and it was his first time, and he said it will be our last - I couldn't agree more. I've been here once years ago when they were in the news, and it was good back then. Now, it feels like this place is all dash and go kind of place; everything seems so rushed. All the side dishes were already on the table, cold, old, and not appetizing. We couldn't even cook the KBBQ ourselves; it was already cooked for us. Even the lettuce looked old, like it had been sitting out for hours. Regrettably, I should have taken my boyfriend to Goo Yi Goo Yi, the best Korean BBQ place in Santa Clara. It serves authentic Korean food, and the food quality is amazing. What upset us even more about this dinner was the owner. After we finished our meal, we left a 10% tip on the table. The owner gave us 2 Yakult drinks with a happy face, and when we paid at the counter, her expression changed to an upsetting face, saying, "No tip?" We explained that we had left the tip on the table as her Hispanic cleaner was wiping/clearing our table. He was going to give her the tip as she was walking back to our table. She snatched the tip out of his hand, returned to the counter, and said, "You know this is not enough. 15% is a $21 tip." I got frustrated, took back the tip and then exchange it for a $20, and we walked off. I've never heard of someone being unhappy with their tip before. This kbbq is definitely the place to go if you want fast, attentive service and great food! My boyfriend and I came and got the special B with your choice of three meats. For the set, it also comes out steamed egg, your choice of regular rice or kimchi fried rice, seafood pancake, and the side dishes with free refills. We got the beef brisket, pork belly, and galbi. For the galbi, it was $7 more which was completely worth it. The galbi was served already cooked and had with so much meat than we expected. The meat was tender and well marinated. The servers were so attentive. It was easy to get their attention and one lady always came by to ask if we wanted more refills on our side dishes. We really enjoyed our meal and we were also seated very quickly once we got in. They took out order before we aseated so it was out promptly once we've sat down. I would definitely recommend this place if you're craving kbbq. It is not AYCE, but the set that you order has good quality meats with a variety of sides which makes it worth it. Went here for Father's Day as we came from Brickfest in Santa Clara. We were recommended here by a friend so we decided to try it. We made a reservation for 2 adults and a toddler at 1pm but we showed up around 12:30 and were seated after a few minutes. We chose Special A -- 2 meats (beef brisket and spicy pork), kimchi fried rice, a plethora of sides, seafood pancake, and an extra tofu soup for 8 bucks additional. Everything was divine. It was probably one of the best Korean foods I've ever had, and I grew up in the Bay Area and lived in Orange County/LA for a bit. All of that food cost us around 80 bucks. We even had a ton of leftovers to bring home after. The sides were amazing and flavorful (and I don't think that's just because we were hungry), we asked for multiple refills, the kimchi fried rice was rich and heavy and so was the seafood pancake. The meats were pretty straightforward but you got A LOT. Tofu soup was also straightforward and looking back I could have done without it. I'm writing this the same day we ate it and I will most likely skip dinner. That's how full I am. My 3-year-old just wanted to eat the rice paper which was fine I suppose so he left happy. I can't believe in all my years of living in the Bay Area I have never been here. 1000% will come back. Fantastic go-to Korean BBQ for a non-AYCE experience (which is funnily enough rarer for me than it should be) right in the middle of Kiely Plaza amongst many other Korean restaurants. Although notably we went during a *very* heavy opening lunch rush on Sunday and the establishment was clearly overwhelmed, I credit the waitstaff for still handling everything as smoothly as they could and still being attentive on getting everything to the table as fast as possible and offering side-dish refills too (and even tweaking the grill heat level for us while we were eating). Service is on point, even if it's a bit brutally efficient and curt on the front end. Parking is unfortunately a bit of a struggle in the plaza at peak hours, but we managed it without too much trouble at noon. Service inside the establishment seems to be quite careful, with carafes of water even wrapped up with plastic wrap and plexiglass barriers between tables. Due to the huge opening rush it was rather hectic to get the waitresses attention, so the initial chaos could use some structure to improve. I'd advise folks to come at a slightly off-peak hour as it gradually quieted down by the 1:30pm mark. Ordering was done *before* we got to the table, and they had most everything ready by the time we sat down. It was nice to be able to just dig right into the food immediately! Food-wise my only complaint was the steamed egg dish (unpictured, as I forgot to take it as it was snuck onto the table quietly), as the bottom was very slightly burnt. And that's about my only complain as far as food goes... The banchan was a pretty lovely spread that included: fish cake, wrapping ingredients (rice noodle, radish, lettuce), bean sprouts, potato, omelette, japchae, and kimchi. The kalbi came already-cooked (which is an unusual experience for me), but was pretty well seasoned and still hot so I had no qualms munching on it immediately (dipping sauces were definitely not necessary for the kalbi). You'll notice the menu items indicate which ones are "raw" (grilled on the grill). The pork belly was the other option and was promptly grilled. If you're patient, the kimchi fried rice goes on the grill to get lovely crispiness augmented by the copious amounts of butter, but I have to say the foil container it comes on is quite the hassle to pick it off of. The seafood pancake has a very nice crisp to it as well, but has a squash-like base to it and is definitely a nice highlight. The menu indicates there are three dipping sauces, but we ended up getting four, with the additional one being a sesame oil + salt/pepper. Goes quite well with the pork belly. To finish this epic meal of grand proportions we even got yakult on the house! This is definitely high up on my list of good restaurants to come back to. Came here for a family get together. My BIL said it got some good reviews although I'm usually suspicious of Yelp reviews in general. He had a reservation so while we waited at the front area and we had to choose what to order before being seated. They have a menu where you choose a set combo. Most of our party of 6 were light eaters so we thought Combo C would best fit our needs. NOPE. The hostess would NOT ALLOW us to choose what we thought would meet OUR NEEDS. She said for 6, we MUST ORDER combo A + B. So much for serving your customers. While the family was trying to convince the hostess what WE WANTED to eat, I looked inside and atmosphere reminded me of a garage party with large cafeteria style tables and bench seats. Tables were well worn and dingy, so were the seats. I try to be optimistic and thought, well maybe the food is going to be really good with good sized servings. NOPE. We had a grill but only the Beef Brisket and Beef Belly was cooked on it. Everything else came pre-made in aluminum disposable containers, served lukewarm, already overcooked and dry. Food was just plain bad except for the self cooked slivers of meat. It's not AYCE and bad quality. The soup and KimChi fried rice was decent althought the Kimchi fried rice came really late, we were pretty much done with all the meat. When the bill came, it was written really sloppy and unreadable and based on our own calculations it was close enough, maybe we were just not familiar with the tax rate in the area since we're not from the area. You also have to bring the bill up to pay, they can't take your payment at the table. For almost $200, I expect a bit more service. To make things worse, the lady at the register said "6 people mandatory 18% tip" and she just pressed the button herself and told me to sign. It was not even based on the SUBTOTAL but AFTER TAX total which was not appropriate. I'm not going to haggle back and forth for a couple of bucks and keep an eye on my credit statement for days to verify they could make the right adjustment. But I did tell her what she did was extremely rude and inappropriate. Bad service, shady charging tactics, and bad food and dingy atmosphere. Not worthy of the 4/5 star reviews here. I'm giving an extra star only because the employees here are running around working in a frantic pace. But the overall experience was very poor. Really good meal and excellent quality service from this place! I actually haven't heard of Tobang until recently so when I went, I was super excited to come try this place out. I went on a Saturday afternoon and the wait wasn't bad at all, probably just waited for like 10 minutes for a table so it was fine. What I liked was the customer service. The waitresses would always come back and forth quickly and they would always refill our bonchon, water, and would cook our meats for us. We felt this was an average, old-school KBBQ place. It's not all-you-can-eat (AYCE) so the price point felt a bit high for what we got, our total was $90 for the "A" set + soup, after tax/tip. It felt a bit strange to have to order before sitting down, and I felt like we had to make a quick decision since otherwise we would've made our server wait while we awkwardly reviewed the menu. Brisket was average quality meat. It seems they don't cook for you here, but we only had one pair of tongs, so only one of us could cook. The tongs were large so it was hard to grip and make fine adjustments to the brisket while it was cooking. The grill seems to be dated, and smoke management wasn't the best. Because the vents are high up on the ceiling (vs integrated into the grill or lower), the smoke kept blowing directly onto my face that it became almost unbearable sometimes and I had to lean to the side. Also when cooking the brisket, oil would drip into the grill and a short burst of orange flame would come out towards me, it was a bit frightening. Banchan had a nice variety and were decent quality. Rice and rice paper were good, and I appreciated the 4 different kinds of dipping sauces. Though I wish there was a salad with green onions + sauce that oftentimes KBBQ places will have. The fried seafood pancake was a bit too oily for my liking, and I wish this could've been an optional add-on. The yakult drink for dessert was a nice treat. The dining experience then was no different than how it's been for years. Today was completely different. They always had set menus but now they have only ABC, not based on the 1.5 , 2, or 3 people anymore. When you approach to put your name down, the serve asks for your name and you must order right away on an order slip. Luckily my fiancé and I were a party of 2 so it looked like he slipped it straight to the cashier. There was a lot of big parties waiting already, so we were hopeful we'd get seated soon. We got called no more than 5 minutes and was taken inside. To our surprise, as we approached the table, most of our meal was already out and grilling: the meat was on the grill, ban chan, and pancake. So efficient. Shortly through the meal, our egg, tofu soup, and kimchi friend rice came out. It was our fastest and most efficient meal with them, from sitting to out the door maybe 35 minutes. For long term tobang goers, some things to keep in mind: service has always been fast and they still check in on you. It's more sparse this busy day and they weren't cooking as much for you anymore. Kimchi fried rice comes out way earlier because they're trying to push you to leave, so most of it was burnt. Ban Chan is still as good as ever. This place doesn't feel like you can take a social group anymore due to the feeling of rushing. The service here is some of the best I have ever experienced in the South Bay! You're instructed to place your order before you're even seated so the whole process is very efficient and streamlined. By the time you get to your table there are already all the side dishes you could want. Within a minute we had someone at our table putting our meats on the grill and they were constantly cycling through tables making sure everyone's grill was attended to. I was almost distracted from the meal by how efficient they were. Aside from that, the food itself was phenomenal. I especially recommend upgrading for the Galbi Jim. Most restaurants that serve a good Galbi Jim specialize in the dish and serve pretty much only that. Here it was treated as totally secondary to the grilled meats but it was still very good! I had a hankering for a good bowl of tofu soup and I had this place on my list for a while now. We got on the Yelp waitlist and were able to get a table pretty quickly on arrival. I was planning to some order some alacarte items but the lady helping us insisted that a family combo with three items would be a better choice. I added a mushroom tofu soup to it as well. We choose beef, bbq chicken and spicy bbq chicken as our protein choices. There was an array of side dishes waiting for us at the table. The chicken items came precooked from the kitchen and the quantities were humongous. The chicken was well cooked and delectable. In addition to the side dishes we also got a seafood pancake which was a tad bit oily and heavy. Among the side dishes I liked the glass noodles the best. The fresh lettuce leaves which was also a side dish, served as a good wrap for the chicken. The rest of the side dishes had an strong smell and taste of fish sauce. The biggest disappointment of the evening was the tofu soup though. It had a strong taste of raw red chilli and though not spicy the rawness left a bad taste in the mouth. Perfect for a group get together! Their menu is made up of set specials so it makes life easy to order. There's something for everyone. We got the galbi, bulgogi, and pork ribs. It also comes with a steamed egg, seafood pancake, corn cheese, kimchi fried rice, and banchan! All the meats were tender and the pork ribs were especially yummy. Not a super typical item on a Korean menu so we were happy to try it out. Our waitress was sooo nice and attentive and generous with all of our banchan refills haha. ToBang is a family style Korean bbq place where you grill (some) of your own meat, but it's not AYCE. They only have set options where you choose from a selection of meats, and you also get seafood pancake, side dishes, and some other small things. The quick meats like brisket you cook over the grill. Others like kalbi, bulgogi, and chicken come precooked. I guess it makes it go faster, but I thought the cooked meats were a bit dry and subpar. We came on a super busy Saturday night, and they took our order before we got sat. We still waited like 20 min even though we arrived on time for our reservation. I also felt like we were rushed to order, and it ended up being like $44 a person, although we were quite full. Personally, given the price, I felt like going to an AYCE restaurant would've been a better deal for the same quality. A rare one star review from me -this place is highly not recommended. It's chaotic inside, with servers running all over the place. They make you order ahead and try to rush you to finish eating. Was there celebrating with a group of friends and after we paid, they had the audacity to tell us it's time for the next party (basically telling us to gtfo) Food is ok, not great. There are better Korean bbq for their prices, with way better service. Also we made reservation but they did not honor it and blamed us for being a couple mins late. You definitely do not need to reserve a table here. Not because this place is empty but they usually don't care and service is fast. However I do feel the pressure here, as they only have 3 "meal plans" to choose from. If you have 3 people, they tell you to order the plan enough for 4 people. At first I wanted to order the 2 people plan, but the keep on pushing me to order the 4 citing that the 2 won't be enough. BUT I know unwanted to add the tofu soup and the steam egg as well!!!! But under pressure I said yes. So of course I had left over. A whole box of already cooked beef. Here, you have to cook yourself. But it's not too bad, there server do help. They are generous in their small dishes as well. So do ask for more if you are done but don't waste food please. I will come back, because the price is affordable. Food is relatively OK. Came in due to the high reviews of this place. It is a small establishment for KBBQ. They sell sets and not AYCE. It is very quick service in here so do not expect to sit down and relax. Due to their fast pace, prior to sitting down all of their side dishes are already there waiting for you. The meat, seafood pancakes and other dishes you order come in within 5 minutes. I NEVER got this quick service for KBBQ. My party of 6 probably left within 45 minutes of eating. The meat was really good, specially the spicy chicken. The highlight of my meal was the seafood pancake. I am not sure what's in it, but it was like a drug! I could not stop eating it. It was perfectly cooked, with the right amount of crunch and seafood. If I could go back I would just be happy eating that. Anyway, if you were looking to cook your own meat and sit and relax, this might not be the place for you. I've visited ToBang three times and each time I've had a fantastic experience! Most recently, I went on a Saturday for early dinner. As soon as we walked in, we were told to look at the menu and let them know when we were ready to order. Then, we'd be seated. We quickly decided what we wanted, told the waitress our order, and were taken to our seats where all the side dishes and sauces were set up for us. We decided to order Special A ($56.99) which includes 2 meats, a seafood pancake, the side dishes, a choice of kimchi fried rice or steamed rice (we picked kimchi fried rice), lettuce wrap, and radish wrap. For the meats, we picked Bulgogi (Korean BBQ Beef) and Kalbi (Korean BBQ Beef Short Ribs). The Kalbi was an extra $8. Both meets were absolutely delicious and extremely flavorful. Even though we had sauce at our table which was also really good, these meats were already so flavorful that honestly neither of them even needed the sauce! Plus, the portions were huge! We had so much leftover to take home. They were excellent choices and I would order both the Bulgogi and Kalbi again next time. The kimchi fried rice was also really good. I liked the flavor of the kimchi. The service was pretty quick and it got busier and busier throughout our time there, but we enjoyed the food and it was a nice busy but fun atmosphere. When it was time to pay, they brought out BioCool drinks (like Yakult) with the check which was a nice way to end the meal. We were here at 3pm on Sunday. Shop was almost completely empty, yet the service we received was dismal. I remembered Tobang to be really yummy pre-pandemic, but I think their standards dipped. We had to grill our own meat, help ourselves to the disposable chopsticks (not sure what happened but they're using disposable plates and utensils now), and found it hard to get their attention for just 1 ban chan refill. Meat quality was just alright, we got the beef brisket and pork belly. For a $50 set meal, it does come with a variety of items- 2 meats, 1 kimchi fried rice, 1 steam egg (also in container), 1 small seafood pancake, 2 yakult. Overall, I feel like I can get more bang for my buck at other places. But if you're craving a KBBQ with variety then Tobang might be a decent option. read more

Well worth the price for kbbq. I would highly recommend this place if you are craving kbbq but cannot eat enough to make AYCE worth it. My best friend and I left this restaurant completely satisfied. We love finding new Korean restaurants, and her co-worker actually recommended this to her and I'm so thankful she did. They have 4 specials you can choose from, and my best friend I chose special 4 or D, which is one meat and one soup. We chose bulgogi and the seafood soft tofu soup and it was amazing, not to mention the banchan and the seafood pancake that came with our special. The bulgogi was cooked for us by the time it got to our table, and they left the grill on to keep our meet warm. The soup was probably my favorite because I love all kinds of soup. But everything tasted amazing. We even got to ask for extra banchan and all the staff that helped us were all kind and friendly.
