I don't know why I've never rated this place. Please keep in mind that a three-star rating isn't bad. It's "A-OK." And Top Spice has always delivered some decent Thai / Malaysian foods every time I've been there. Service is always good. Food always comes to the table quickly, and I've never had a bad time at this establishment. So here's the weird thing: Even though I like this place, I do have other favorites for good Thai food. For instance, my lunch here today was Pad See U (chicken). It was good. I enjoyed it. But it made me long for someone else's Pad See U. It seems pretty clear that the dinner menu is more robust than the lunch menu. And perhaps that's why I stopped at three stars instead of four. I've had dinners here which were way more memorable than the lunch I had here today. But as I said, three stars isn't bad, and I won't hesitate to return here again, if my friends say this is where we're meeting. Holler if you're coming with. read more

I went to Top Spice for lunch because all my coworkers raved about it. Knowing my coworkers as I do, I should have known better. I'll start with the good. This restaurant looked great in the dark lighting. I don't know what it would look like if they let some sunlight in but it's got a serious-not-just-lunch-vibe; I liked that I didn't feel rushed. The service was good; I was seated promptly and my server was attentive without being annoying. My Thai iced tea was yum yum. I would say, "Well, how could you mess that up?" But I know that's possible, so thanks for the yum yum Thai iced tea. Now let's get to the bad. I ordered the panang curry with beef. (I always order the panang when I go to a Thai restaurant for the first time, it's just my thing.) Anyhow, the beef in this curry was jerky dry, and the curry was very thick - almost like a potato soup. The menu did note that the curry was mild, but Thai mild is usually perfect for lunch. But this wasn't "Thai mild" this was "American mild" which means it probably had a quarter of a chili pepper thrown in when it could have used about four. I'm wondering why its so far to find really really food thai or Malaysian food in atlanta. Maybe I'm just too picky, but the food here just doesn't seem that good. The curry plates are plentiful and come with unlimited rice, but they are kinda expensive, all $10+. the Appetizers here are kinda small for the money, and I feel that the dishes here are all overly salted. I got the naan w/ curry (the best appetizer there), the malaysian pancake (which ended up being ground beef wrapped with puff pastry) and i also tried a few of the curries and tandori chicken. The naan with curry is awsome because you get an appetizer with the naan, and then you can combine the leftover curry with rice. The problem with Top Spice is that they are less generous with their curry then other thai restaurants. The Tandori chicken which I tried actually came with more vegetables than chicken, which I thought was kinda weird. And they didnt have hainan chicken.... Pad Prik tofu was really good. It was a great vegetarian option. Very tasty. Would definitely recommend.

The chicken in the masaman curry was a bit dry, but the curry itself was really delicious, loaded with cashews and avocado. (4 stars) The spicy fried rice was amazing, really flavorful and smoky with just a hint of spiciness. (5 stars) The Thai iced tea was also excellent, smooth, and creamy. Ate here the other day for a belated birthday dinner with a friend. I ordered spring rolls as an appetizer and my entree was chicken & shrimp panang with white rice. The food overall was good but I will say I've had better when it comes to Thai restaurants. My friend order a shrimp dish with she described as being okay. She stated the shrimp lacked seasoning/flavor. We did both however enjoy the appetizers and the ambiance as well. I would go back again, but definitely would try another dish. Fried Won Tons. 6 pieces of Fried Won Tons filled with Shrimp and mines pork, with sweet-chili dipping sauce. After getting over the initial shock of not seeing the larger individual won ton presentation, I am familiar with...I loved the smaller pieces. No excess won ton wrapper. So, that means less calories and fat, right? $4.25 Entree was Spicy Basil Leaves with Shrimp. This is what I was craving and initially​ came for. I had not been to Top Spice in about a year, but it tasted as I remembered...Delicious! Kind of subtlety sweet, spicy, basily and juicy. Lots of plump shrimp, with the rails on, sliced red and green bell peppers, onions, spices and basil! It was served with steamed rice. $13.25 All in all, I was well fed and have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I'll be BACK! They do not offer anything for checking in on Yelp. Walked into this place and my friend said, "now this is the way a Thai restaurant should smell." We shared vegetarian spring rolls - delicious, crispy and perfectly-sized portion. Then we had the beef satay, which was probably the best I've ever had. The meat was almost barbecued; may be the Malaysian influence, but I've never had satay cooked like that before. The sauce was great and had a nice kick to it. The panang curry (what else would I get?) was wonderful - richer and heartier than I usually have it. This review is fo a delivery from Door Dash not a dine-in experience. First, the order arrived 30 minutes after we received the confirmed confirmation time. The food was luke- warm at best. I ordered the honey shrimp as a Malaysian special. There were six shrimp for $23 and the sauce was some minced onions, bland with no seasoning. My companion had the sweet and sour chicken. The sweet and sour sauce came in 3 containers but no pre-mix. The chicken was tender but the sauce was a disappointment. This will be my first and last time using Door Dash and Top Spice. I went for lunch with my husband a few weeks ago. I ordered a dish off the lunch menu which had no salt and was extremely greasy. I rarely send food back but I decided to ask for something else. The server FLIPPED out. She started accusing me of ordering without looking at what I ordered, saying this is what it is. I told her I wanted something else. She took it aggressively off the table and went a bit away n brought it back saying no this is what you ordered. I refused it at this point because it was just getting ugly. She left it at the table across. I ordered something else and she was being aggressive again. I was there to celebrate something or else I would have left. Lunch menus comes with cup of coconut soup (Not so good - some of the saltiest I've ever had - the salty almost overtakes coconut flavor! my wife couldn't even finish hers). We had just finished seeing an IMAX movie at Fernbank and it was around noon, so we opted for a quick lunch nearby. I think we had eaten here once before several years ago, but it is rare that we are in this area at meal-time. Parking is in a common lot out front and required a bit more searching than expected. Luckily it is a huge lot. Top Spice is nicely decorated (the tables have displayed spices in compartments under the glass top). Service was prompt and we didn't have long at all to wait for either the soups or the food. The dining room filled up before we were done. We both enjoyed our dishes (Massaman curry with tofu, as well as a beef-and-vegetables dish). If we lived closer or happened to be in the area again, I'd return. read more

I've been to Top Spice twice before and always enjoyed it, so this was where we decided on for dinner last night to celebrate my birthday a month late. GBF had suggested Einstein's, but the menu was a little too underwhelming for me and I always want Thai. Always. We started with the calamari, something we order just about every single time we go out. There was a little too much batter for my liking, but it was good and crunchy. Not bad, just not how I like my calamari. GBF convinced me to try something new for once (I always order the Massaman chicken curry), so I ventured to the Malaysian side and ordered the Putri Basket, which was sautéed shrimp, scallops and chicken cooked in a spicy lemon grass sauce w/ bell peppers, celery, onions, mushrooms and dried chili, topped w/ cashew nuts. Thankfully GBF got my usual, so I could at least have some and feel all warm and cozy inside. The Putri Basket was quite delicious. The shrimp and scallops were large and cooked perfectly, the sauce was good, the veggies crisp enough without being raw...delicious! GBF's Massaman curry, however, was not nearly as spicy as I need it to be. In fact it just tasted bland until I asked for chili sauce to liven it up. Then it was good. Maybe not the best I've ever had, but still good. Our server was the one thing I was most iffy on, though. She was funny and very friendly when first coming to our table, but then she forgot to bring my second glass of wine and toward the end of the night as we sat chatting and - really - just waiting for our check we didn't see her for 30 minutes. Just gone. We watched at least 3 other tables of people who had arrived well after us leave way before she finally came back to our table. It was odd to us because she'd seemed pretty cool at the beginning. Wow - Top Spice was an unexpected win in my book. We came to have some Thai food and then walk Piedmont Park which is right behind the building. And it ended up being great. The restaurant has dim lighting with cool decor. One wall is decorated with jars of spices/herbs. The space seemed like a chill spot for a date. We started with fried calamari and then ordered the green curry, the Kari Ayam Kering, and pad thai. The fried calamari was thick cuts of squid fried in a corndog-type batter. The green curry was the usual, fragrant curry deliciousness. I've never had Kari Ayam Kering, which is a Malaysian curry with chicken and potatoes, but it was so good. It was a mild, hearty dish that got the job done. The pad thai was a solid choice too. I wish there were more sprouts and egg in the dish, but otherwise better than expected. All that food coupled with good service made our experience worth it. Highly recommend! read more

I love Top Spice! I've never eaten in-restaurant but I have gotten deliveries as well as had Top Spice when it was offered at student organization events at Emory. At these events, there's always entrees with chicken and meat-free entrees for vegetarians. I love love love the chicken panang. That's hands down my favorite item. The sauce is not too thick and it's so flavorful. The spicy vegetables are great as well, and they don't skimp on the vegetables! Whenever a student organization advertises that it's serving Top Spice, the event is always a huge hit. As for authenticity, well it's pretty close, I'd say. This was my second time at Top Spice, but its been a really long time since my first. My girlfriend brought me here when we first started dating, and it was kind of my introduction to thai food. I probably had it before, but that was the first memorable time, and we've been going out to different Thai places ever since. This review is kind of going to be a combination, because based on this last experience, it would probably only get 3 to 3.5 stars, but it deserves more. The first time, I got the Pring Kring, or something like that. It tends to be my go-to at new thai places, and while I don't recall specifics, I recall loving it and would probably go 5 stars after that meal. This time I got the red curry. It was good, but it didn't taste as awesome as I thought it would. Didn't have as much meat in it as I am used to either. Maybe it was just a bad choice. Again, I should stress it was good and spicy and probably better than 9 out of 10 other Thai places, but it just wasn't as good as the first time. We also got their beef skewers - I don't recall what they are called - but if you like mild spicy beef, then this is a good appetizer to go with. All in all, how good your food is will depend on what you order, but anything will be good. Just the degree of "good" apparently changes. So choose, but choose wisely. read more

I've had a lot of Thai Takeout in my day - and this is truly the best I have had! The first time I ordered from here we picked up the Spicy Seafood Noodle and the Pad See Ew with Shrimp. It was delicious. There was the perfect amount of sauce and the flavors were good. Reheated leftovers stayed tasty! Me and my husband picked up Thai from another local restaurant a few weeks later and we were unimpressed to say the least. Anyway - today I ordered the same thing from Top Spice for Delivery via Yelp. It came faster that expected (about 40 min faster), the driver actually came to my door, it was fresh, and what ultimately triggered me to write this review: the mussels, scallops, and squid in my Spicy Seafood Noodles were cooked literally to PERFECTION. We usually go to Little Bangkok (on Cheshire) for our Thai food fix. Today we decided to try Basil Catfish from Top Spice, that's what we get from Little Bangkok (HIGHLY recommended), and found it okay :/ too coconut milky and NO Thai eggplant in it, which it is supposed to come with. Husband ordered pad thai with shrimps and what a disappoinment it was. Imagine getting boiled noodles smoothered with sweet ketchup and 3 shrimps. The only flavor you could taste was KETCHUP! Found this place randomly on yelp while I was visiting Atlanta, and was quite intrigued about trying Malaysian food, being I have never tried it before. This place is beautiful, it has a strong South East Asian feel in its alluring darkly lit ambiance. The tables have glassed in eastern bean's, herbs and leaves in the center of the tables, which accentuates the feeling of an exotic dining experience. Once I had chosen a comfortable section of the restaurant with a panoramic view of whole restaurant, an attractive Asian lady came and took my order. I had chosen an entree of Fresh ginger special chicken sauteed with ginger, onions and mushrooms, an appetizer of spring rolls and pineapple juice. Unfortunately the ginger chicken was not remotely spicy nor did it have the typical Asian flavor I am accustomed to with southeastern Asian food. I loved how they presented the rice in its own large covered bowl with a large spoon. Instead of the typical conservative portions of rice served at most Asian restaurants. I highly doubt this restaurant makes their own spring rolls. I was quite shocked by the appearance and size of the spring rolls, the taste was not impressive at all.The spring rolls were kind of like a joke, they looked like the frozen ones sold in any local grocery store. That being said the food presentation was excellent even though I was disappointed in the taste of my chosen dishes. I enjoyed the service at this restaurant. the young lady who was serving my table was very attentive and pleasant.All together the decor and ambiance at this place is 5 stars, the service is 4 stars, food presentation is 4 stars, but the food itself is kind of like 2 stars. They they did not follow instructions for sauces on side, or selecting spicy level. I ordered chicken fried rice and panang chicken. The food was amazing. It was pretty warm too, by the time I got home also. I have tried there "mango chicken" it's named something else on menu. It is very delicious also. Coconut soup is okay also, I had better, but it's definitely worth a try. The only reason they lost 1 star is due to instructions. I might reordered and see if anything is changed. I travel quite a bit for work and am in Atlanta 4 times a year. Each time I like to have dinner at Top Spice because it has always been good food exceptional service. Until tonight. I walked in and asked for a table for 1. She proceeded to walk me over to a 4-top that already had someone sitting at it and seat me there. I was after the dinner run so there were many open tables that weren't already taken by a complete stranger. I stated that I would rather sit in at that booth which prompted the hostess to say "umm" and just stand there so I proceeded to walk over and sit down. I then watched this same hostess try to seat two other couples at this already taken table, which they refused until the third couple gave each other a look then sat down with this stranger. The food was good. Pad thai was a little soggy, but pretty good flavor and a nice level of spiciness (I ordered a 10/10). When I had finished eating my dinner the waitress walked over and put the check down in front of me then turned around and was walking away when I said "hold on." She then came back and asked me if I wanted to order dessert, which I did. So she took the check back and brought me my dessert I ordered. I ate it and then she brought my check back. My drink was never refilled. It remained empty from about 1/2 way through my dinner which the waitress did see when she came to my table. I have eaten at Top Spice at least 6 times when traveling to Atlanta and it has always been a rare exception to the adage that service is dead. Tonight was just terrible and the shared table thing was downright bizzare, and made everyone involved uncomfortable. A very beautifully decorated Thai restaurant in the Toco Hills Shopping Center. I was surprised by the quality of the environment, but wasn't too into the food. I came here with my dad for lunch, so we got lunch specials. Reasonably priced at $7-$9 per dish, although I imagine it's more limited than the full dinner menu. I got the veg fried rice with coconut soup and my dad got tofu in curry. The inside of the restaurant is dimly lit to give an intimate vibe, and was very nicely furnished. The decor was elegant. The setting would be great for a nice date. The service was good too. We weren't checked on much, but our server was nice. Our food arrived quickly--about 10min, but this was also during slow lunch hour. I was a little disappointed about the food. Although the portions were good, the actual flavor and taste didn't meet my expectations. I've been to many Thai restaurants, but my fried rice here just didn't have the authentic, tangy, slightly-sweet taste most Thai fried rices have. Also, for an established, more formal restaurant, the rice seemed to be heaped with cheap sauces. I felt the same afterward as I do when I get takeout food. The coconut soup was pretty sharp and yummy, but it was swimming in oil. Not sure if that's normal. Overall, the experience was okay, but the food is lacking in my opinion. To me the food is most important, so I'm giving it 3 stars. I do recommend giving this place a chance though because it's very well run and I have friends who like it a lot. read more

During my last business trip to Atlanta, a colleague and I were seriously debating on what to do for dinner. After consulting our hotel concierge, we both agreed on Thai, which is why we decided to go to this place. And very glad we did. First off, ambience. Very intimate. Great for conversations or first dates. Food wise, very very good. The panang curry is outstanding. And so was the prawn in shrimp paste spicy sauce. Exactly if not more than what I expected. And the portions are very healthy, so come hungry. I even had a lychee tini, which hit the spot. Throw in great service, and we were both in Thai food heaven. I highly recommend this place.
