My friend came across a reel of this coffee shop on Instagram. The moment we saw that they had nitro cold brews on tap and offered flights, it wasn't even a question--we were in. Now, I'll go into a bit more detail on all that we got below, but I'll cut to the chase--we were quite disappointed with the drinks we had. They were all VERY watered down--even the specialty cold brews! Imagine having a cup of coffee and half of it is all ice and then all that ice melts... that's how all of our drinks tasted. It was almost like having coffee flavored water. What we tried: Nitro Cold Brews - we got two flights which allowed us to try every single one of their nitro cold brews. The best one of the bunch for us was called Son of a Son of a Sailor. It had the most coffee flavor and its aroma smelled so good. Our runners up were called Trident, Calm Under Pressure, and El Capitán. All of the cold brews had their own very distinct and heady aromas, which I loved. But the aromas were so much more potent than the flavors. Like they were all bark and no bite. Mexican Mocha - this one was... tolerable. I was so excited to try the Mexican Mocha because it's my first one. I was expecting it to be decadent and chocolatey, but unfortunately, all I got was a very watery mocha drink. Honey Lavender Latte - this one had the weirdest and most off putting aftertaste for me. It was also very heavy on the honey and barely had any lavender flavor--maybe all that honey just overpowered the lavender. I took a couple of sips of this one and I was done. Salted Caramel Mocha - probably the most normal tasting one out of the specialty cold brews we tried. It came with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, and sprinkled with some black sea salt on top. Still very watered down, but tolerable enough to drink. Our specialty cold brews also tasted like they were made with sugar-free syrups. I'm not sure if this is the default for the drinks you get here, but it's not mentioned anywhere that this is what they use. I know some people prefer this--which is totally fine--but I'm personally not a huge fan of them, so I can easily tell if there's something sugar-free in my drink... and unfortunately, all of our specialty cold brews definitely had that distinct flavor and aftertaste to them. After my first visit to Trident, I already want to go back! First, the service was exceptional and the employees were so friendly and helpful. Second, the speciality selection of nitro cold brews is impressive! There were 8 different nitro cold brews available on tap. We got a flight of 4 nitro cold brews. We tried some of the most popular roasts and enjoyed all of them. They had light, medium, and dark roast options. The flight also comes with half and half or cream if you don't want to drink the nitro cold brew black. The nitro cold brews were all very smooth and easy to drink without any milk or cream added into them. This was a fun way to compare the flavors of the different roasts. We ended up getting their specialty cold brews to take on-the-go. We had their Mexican mocha cold brew and their salted caramel mocha cold brew. The Mexican mocha cold brew was not very sweet which I preferred. It had a coffee, chocolate, and cinnamon flavor. The salted caramel mocha cold brew was sweeter. Both were delicious! We also had their chocolate croissant. The chocolate croissant was soft and flakey with a good amount of chocolate inside. There were protein donut options to choose from as well. The interior of Trident is beachy and has mermaid vibes. The colors are calming. The openness of the windows makes it filled with sunshine and it feels nice and bright. The whole coffee shop has the mermaid theme in an upscale vibe. Everything about our visit to Trident Coffee was excellent! We look forward to visiting next time we're in PB! read more

I have actually tried the location in Coronado but love the Pacific Beach one because it is a little bigger with lots of seating and has so much natural lighting. I don't expect too many to relate, but it's rare for me to give a coffee shop with Toroni syrup 5 stars. I'm not much of a fan of that brand, and it makes so many local coffee shops taste the same. Usually I walk right out when I see it, but this location is so perfect I've visited a few times. Since the syrup brand they use is my only complaint, we'll just round up. Again, this location is absolutely perfect for grabbing a cup before you wait in line for brunch across the street or to take with you for a beach walk. Parking is a pain, but if you're in PB, you probably didn't make the trip just for this coffee shop. They have a lot of functional lattes, which are great (and a way to get flavor without Torani). I really enjoy their cold brew, which is another reason I struggle to give them anything less than 5 stars. It doesn't make me jittery like some other cold brews I've tried. I had a business meeting near the beach and wanted to grab some coffee and a bite to eat before the meeting. I saw Trident Coffee and pulled over to stop in, and wow, what a nice surprise! It is a beautifully designed, clean, modern cafe with an amazing menu. What surprised me the most however, was their extensive GF menu. With GF baked goods such as protein donuts, coffee cake, empanadas, muffins, and even breakfast burritos, I felt like I had won the lottery! But we all know that often, GF baked goods can taste a little wonky. Samantha recommended an empanada and a donut. I went with her recommendation and an iced, oat milk, vanilla latte. When my food and coffee order was ready, I grabbed a seat and tasted the empanada first. OMG, it was amazing! The crust was golden brown and the filling was so flavorful and delicious, I had a hard time believing it was gluten free. The iced coffee was spot-on, and the donut was incredible as well, although it had a slight aftertaste from the sweetener. I have never been a big fan of Erythritol, as I prefer natural sweeteners such as Monk Fruit (my favorite), Stevia, or Honey, but this still was a good tasting donut. Overall, I was very impressed with Trident. The coffee was good, the food was outstanding, and the staff was warm and friendly and put a smile on my face. I've been to Trident plenty of times and always loved their drinks and food (I even have their sticker on my skateboard to prove it). But I had to leave a review after this morning as the service was next level. I showed up a few minutes before opening, totally out of it and desperate for caffeine. The guy behind the counter already had the door unlocked and was kind enough to serve me anyway. I told him I just needed a cold brew, not realizing they have a whole lineup of different options, and he couldn't have been more patient. He recommended the El Capitan, which ended up being exactly what I needed, smooth, refreshing, and with those subtle orange notes I love. He didn't treat me like an idiot for being half-awake, he was just genuinely kind and helpful. Made my day. Give that man a raise. read more

Their cafe is beautifully decorated, with lots of different seatings, reliable internet and outlets, panoramic windows with lots of natural light, clean bathroom... everything is perfect, but the drinks... I've gone here twice to give it a try and got their Vietnamese Midnight Latte and Cold Brew (I forgot the name). Drinks are pricy but don't have much flavor and is diluted (I'm sorry!!!). Especially for the Vietnamese Midnight Latte, I couldn't taste any Vietnamese coffee. As a Vietnamese, I'm not sure why this drink is named this way, especially since Viets wouldn't drink charcoal (I asked my mom, she also confirmed in opinion). I trust that the owner is getting lots of feedback on their drinks, and I hope they continue to seek out more to continuously improve. read more

This was such a cool place to grab a coffee, with lots of windows to let in natural light and cool art on the walls. We were interested in their specialty cold brew drinks when we came in but there is so much more we need to come back and try, including espresso drinks, local pastries, canned nitro cold brew, and even functional lattes (think mct oil, collagen, tumeric and other healthy boosters). I was interested in the Old Fashioned Cold Foam specialty cold brew and the friendly barista that helped us offered to let me try the whiskey barrel aged cold brew on nitro draft that goes into it. It was so smooth and since I like Old Fashioned cocktails it was perfect for me. The finished drink was great and wasn't over sweetened with syrups, giving it a subtle blood orange flavor and creaminess to the cold brew.
