Amazing cocktails and great appetizers. We ate at the bar and we're helped by Juan and Claudia. Both were friendly and prompt and were fun to talk to. The elk meatloaf sliders and the grilled mushrooms were both so full of flavor! The bar is more of an upscale gastropub and there was a band setting up when we left. We got there maybe a few minutes before 6pm on Saturday and the bar quickly filled up. I can't speak for the restaurant side but the bar/lounge was fantastic! read more

This is a good restaurant with a nice ambience. The New York strip was pretty good and the bison filet was even better. Appetizers were good- really liked the cauliflower. The group had mixed opinions on the chicken and dumplings. Went here for our Anniversary dinner, had never been before. We had a beautiful candlelit table alongside the sidewalk side of the restaurant. A little more on the casual side as for attire, as most were dressed in dress shorts, however I did not feel out of place in my sequin top and heels. The menu was nice, our food was excellent (as were the bar drinks). We were sent home with a bread pudding for dessert, which was incredible. Great service, nice atmosphere, and great live music. I left a 2 star review in hopes this review would be read. I'll start by saying the ambiance was great! Decor and greeting was good, as expected. With this being out last night of vacation in June, I was looking forward to eating here as the reviews were pretty good and a Cajun inspired restaurant for Whitefish, MT was intriguing. I never had the opportunity to ask about the name, given Tupelo, MS is 6 hours from New Orleans (I grew up in Mississippi and know Tupelo has nothing in common with anything Cajun), but alas I didn't get the opportunity. Now I understand why reviews weren't great. To be fair, we ate here on a Friday night and the place was hopping. Based on the number of people eating here, I anticipated a great meal. Our table was ready when we arrived which was appreciated (no one was waiting for a table). The server came by the table, albeit with a dismissive attitude, within 10 minutes and took our drink order. 15 minutes later, he brought me the martini I ordered (already not a great start but hey they were busy). 15 minutes after bringing the drink he finally came back and we ordered appetizers and entrees because we knew this would be a marathon dinner if we didn't - good thing we did. I had the filet and my wife ordered the chicken. About 25 minutes later, entrees arrived. The food tasted pretty good, however my steak ordered medium rare came out medium well. The only reason the server knew the steak was overcooked was he dropped by the table after over half had been eaten to ask how it was. I showed him the steak and asked if he thought it was mr. He said it looks more medium (not sure his definition of medium but he was wrong). He asked if I wanted another one, I said no given the length of time it took to get the steak to begin with. He told the manager who came to the table. She said she understood I was unhappy with the steak and gave the excuse "we've been very busy" (again there was no wait when arrived), as if that justifies a $40 steak being prepared incorrectly. I wanted to ask if the fact it was Friday night snuck up on her but decided it was irrelevant. Ultimately she took the steak off the bill which was appreciated but not requested. Overall the food was pretty good, but service was atrocious. If we come back to Whitefish, we will never eat here again. All we wanted was a nice evening on our last night, not a pathetic experience. There are a lot of options for dining in Whitefish and Columbia Falls, no need to deal with subpar service again. If you're reading this review, I highly recommend choosing another option, it's simply not worth the hassle. Slow service in a restaurant because they're busy isn't unusual. Crappy service in a restaurant billing themselves as upscale is unacceptable. BTW the table of 4 next to us had similar complaints they voiced to the server. Maybe the service industry isn't for him and hopefully the restaurant will learn and do better. Yes I realize this is a small market and service can't be expected to be on par with fine restaurants in larger areas. However, other nice restaurants in the area in which we dined, didn't have this issue. Choose another restaurant if you're looking for a nice experience. If you don't care about service and quality then enjoy. read more

Not the best experience when you spent $50 on the Filet Mignon and ended up throwing half of the dish. The mashed potato was good, though. The service was very slowwwwwwww.....but they do want you to get out fast and they make sure you know that. I would not want to come back again. read more

Our last night in Whitefish and finally a restaurant worthy of 5 stars. I am not wild about Gumbo or grits BUT the Gumbo was fantastic and the Shrimp over Cheddar Grits was amazing. We made dinner reservations at Tupelo Grill on a Thursday evening around 7:30pm. We left Glacier early that day and decided to walk in and see if we could get seated earlier. The host was kind and happy to help. There was no seating available in the main dining room at the time, but he could get us seated right away in the lounge, which is a more casual feel and would have live music. I'm so glad we took him up on this offer. We sat at a high top table for two and had Rebecca as our server. My husband started with the Made in Montana whiskey flight and I had the Naughty by Nature cocktail, which was so delicious, I had two. We ordered the Southern Bayou Catfish and the Tomato Watermelon Salad as appetizers, which were both a great choice. The Catfish was lightly battered and oh-so-good with the Cajun sauce. For entrees, we went with the Elk Meatloaf and the Braised Short Rib, both paired with potato's and asparagus. Portions are quite large and we should have shared one entree, if we had, we would've gone with the Elk Meatloaf. I Highly recommend Tupelo Grill, it was an all around great experience! read more

Very upscale setting for dining, we went pretty late in the evening and they still served us. Food was great and a very intimate atmosphere. They had a delicious special with trout the night we went. They changed my dish to have chicken instead and it was AMAZING! They didn't even bat an eye when i asked to have something other than fish on the special. Not a bad approximation of Cajun cuisine, especially given that you're 2,380 miles from New Orleans (yeah, I looked it up). Bonus points for the quirky, Big Easy-centric decor. I got the Zydeco combo platter, a regional sampling (as in New Orleans regional, not Montana regional). The crawfish cake and etouffe were great, the jambalaya solid, although could have used a bit more heat). There were also a few non-cajun, almost asian-inspired options on the menu, which were helpful for my vegetarian girlfriend, but seemed like an odd mix (I tried her roasted cauliflower appetizer, which was in a curry sauce - quite good, but again, would seem to provide an odd mix with most entrees on the menu.) The service was a bit spotty. I felt very much as if there was a bit of an upsell/pushing of appetizers/drinks/desserts, and when it was clear we weren't going to be doing heavy drinking and running up a big tab, the service and attention dropped considerably. Also seemed a bit pricey for what it was. Still, we both enjoyed our dinner - set out thinking I'd be trying something like an elk burger, and wound up having a nice crawfish etoufee in Montana, which was a not unpleasant surprise. read more

I had a "treat yo-self" moment while on vacay here in Glacier Natl. and ate at the recommended place by my Airbnb host. So here we go: Service- excellent. The gal tending bar that night (Jordan I think?) was sweet as pie and a superb employee. She gave great recs and was very friendly. Food- I ordered the green beans as an appetizer and they were so-so. They would be better beer-battered. As a transplant Austinite for several years, tons of places have these on their menus and do them way better. For dinner, I had the steak frites. The steak was outstanding but the fries were charred and gross. Just go with the filet or another cut and skip the frites. Drink- I had the Moonshine mule and something was a bit off, but it was still refreshing. All in all, this place is worth it for a nice evening out. read more

My husband and I went to Tupelo Grille for a nice dinner while in Whitefish. I would suggest making a reservation as the dining room fills quickly. We both started with a drink. My husband got a Sazerac and I got an Old Fashioned. The drinks were really great! We both started our meals with a small Caesar salad. The salad was nice and not saturated in dressing. My husband ordered the Elk meatloaf. He thought the meatloaf was good and didn't have any kind of wild game taste to it. I had the Pan Seared Salmon. The corn succotash was a nice compliment to the fatty fish and I loved the mashed potatoes. We were provided a complimentary dessert for our anniversary which was the homemade bread pudding. The chantilly cream melted over the warm bread pudding and added a nice sweet note at the front of each bite. We had a great meal and the service was wonderful. read more

Always our favorite Flathead Valley dinner stop...at least once each trip. Been there probably 20 times over the years and it just gets better with time. The last remodel created a greatbar/music/tapas option while the main bar seems just as cozy and welcoming. We have some favorites...especially the chicken and dumplings but you never go wrong with the fish special. Last night it was grouper....one of my faves that I rarely see outside my trips to the South. It was excellent with the most silken mashed potatoes and carrot and green bean medley. Ordered the shaved fennel, arugula and pine nut salad which was HUGE although apparently intended for one serving. As happens all too often, no room for dessert....I always think "next time". I've been into Tupelo twice now, and each time I have left disappointed by the service. When I go out to eat out at an establishment like Tupelo, it's for a special occasion, and I would like to be treated as a customer rather than an after thought. My girlfriend and I were never checked in on, and I think my water was refilled once. The check was handed off with no more than a "no rush on that...." I understand that restaurants are in a tight spot right now. Hell, I work in one and feel it every time I clock in for a shift! But this was a slow night, and I could tell we were being under prioritized. With that I left feeling unappreciated, and well fed (kudos to the kitchen staff). read more

Stopped in here tonight based on the reviews we read. Our server was the main reason for this rating. She did not let us know the special, which wasn't a big deal till we heard what it was "after" we ordered our meal. The server next to our table was spot on and I so wish she had been our server. I asked if the catfish on the menu could be blackened - she said no only corn crushed fried. The special was baked halibut - I would have ordered that instead of the Ratatouille. I literally just ate the squash & zucchini. Over 3/4 of the meal was on my plate that I didn't like. When the server asked if I wanted it boxed up I told her I didn't like k it. Her response was "oh, I'm sorry" that was it. No asking if I wanted anything else. Most places would have removed it from the bill since hardly any was eaten. Not our server. In addition, she never came to fill our waters. Petty?? Probable but it was the full experience that pretty much stunk. With this said, my husband got the Cajon Penne Pasta and said it was delicious. Come on. You claim to be a Cajun Restaurant yet you can't blacken catfish?!!? read more
