We tried this sushi spot last week. The salmon lemon roll was nicely plated, but the bottom was really watery. The edamame was also wet underneath and inside, which was off-putting. Service was pretty slow and inattentive, and honestly the rolls were just average. Not bad, but nothing special

Aury have us really great service! He started letting us know about the menu since it was our first visit. He offered a favorite sushi roll suggestion as well. The restaurant was open and spacious with seats for groups and individuals. And we tried everything from the dragon, to the Gemini to the caterpillar, and uni "shooters". We ate great food. We also had edemami and miso soup. There were a lot of people in the restaurant but it didn't allow them down, they were really quick and thoughtful and the food was made to order. I'm very pleased. I'll recommend and return. This is a good place to stop and eat, we did lunch AYCE. Even the parking was easy to find and park close.

Reluctant to go with the family but I am glad I did! Great place and wonderful nigiri sushi with escolar and butterfish! I liked that it was a lot of fish and very little rice on the nigiri. I didn't feel sick after eating and the quality was fresh. The only thing is the rice needs to be cooked a little less. Will definitely go again.

Came back for more sushi. If I am decided where to sushi, this is the place. I brought my date here for his bday and he knew nothing about Umi sushi's small size approach to rolls. He thought they were super cute and a genius idea. Less carbs, more of the good stuff, and smaller rolls=more variety to try. I can't remember names of things well so I actually have taken notes on the rolls I like in my phone. See photo for my list. The two lemon ones have my heart. We order three of them. We came in around 4:30 and had all you can eat and we're out in about an hour. I didn't love their potstickers. Too wheaty or something. I like them more chewy and translucent.

Good service, trendy decor, disappointing food. Cucumber salad was terrible. It still had the skin on it. The Yakiton, Gyoza, Egg Roll, and Mussels were not a good temperature at all. They were all borderline cold, like it wasn't heated up all the way. The egg rolls, gyoza and miso soup tasted store bought. The yakiton was weirdly shaped and lacked filling but it was probably the best out of all the appetizers. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they were store bought too. Nothing here tasted authentic. The sushi pieces were really small which could be considered a plus if you want to try a lot of different ones. The sushi was decent. Not great but not bad. I did enjoy the nigiri though. If I were ever forced to come here again I would just get that. This place is like if someone with money and no knowledge of good sushi said "People in Reno like AYCE sushi, I'm going to open an AYCE sushi restaurant" and did it.

This actually is hands down the best sushi I have had in Reno. Now if I'm honest, I've had some amazing sushi around the country and of course Reno AYCE doesn't even come close to that. But for Reno AYCE, this place is 5 stars for sure. Every single thing was fresh tasting, no warm sushi (my pet peeve), and there was definitely some real creative options here. Service was great, they kept every dirty plate clear the second you took the last roll off, love that. Ambiance was pretty good too, soo many sushi places in Reno just have no decorations at all and just give mall vibes, this place had a bit of a personality to it. We will be back for sure, this is our new go to spot.

The sushi here is fantastic... fast, sushi had very little rice and tasty. There were three servers, but only one had partial command of the English language. Not being a spoiler, but could not communicate effectively and efficiently. Asked for a glass of ice and received a chilled glass. Asked for more ordering menus and none came (asked 4 times).

My boyfriend and i discovered this place about 3 years ago when we were new to the area. The sushi is so fresh and the rolls are unique, they are not too big so you can order many. However, the food is the only reason we continue to come back. The past few times we have gone the service isn't great. Our waters run empty and they only come around to bring the check. The chefs are always nice and on top of it! I recommend sitting at the bar if you're doing AYCE

Went a little over a month ago for my birthday. Happened to be a Sunday and went to my usual spot on Longley and McCarran but found out that they were closed on Sundays. Never knew since we've never gone to sushi on Sundays so off to Umi Sushi! We've eaten here a couple times before but it's been awhile. We were seated to the right as soon as you walked in the door. First thing I noticed (more like felt) was that every time the door opened, I felt a cold draft on my legs. My whole party (there were 6 of us) felt it too. *Mental note to not seat so close to the door next time I eat here. They have a decent sized menu but not as big as others. Nevertheless, we ordered until we were full (reaching sushi coma). They did have mochi which was great since I haven't had that in over 6 months. Didn't know about their free birthday sushi until I got there so that was also a PLUS. Overall, great value and great time with family.

I've been here a couple of times when we're on this side of town and I've always had a good visit. One of my favorite part about this restaurant is the portion size of the sushi. The AYCE deal is great because rolls are smaller which gives you more room to try out different rolls. I would say if I got those rolls on a la carte I would be disappointed. The servers were nice and catered to what we needed. The restaurant was open and big enough for groups. I don't love that they charge like kids under 5. My daughter just turned 3 and had half a bowl of rice and 3 pieces of calamari rings and was charged $10.99. Overall, it was a good visit and will come back.

I absolutely love this place. Best sushi in town! The rolls are smaller than normal, but this is a plus! You can try so many other rolls at a great AYCE price. The staff and owners are amazing and try their best to make every experience memorable. Byron always recognizes us as regulars and treats us kindly. The ambiance is upbeat and friendly.

I have a preference for smaller rolls and less rice. This place met that desire. I was kind of surprised at how small even the long rolls are. Most places serve large rolls that can feel sloppy. This place had smaller portions that I appreciate. They were attentive, quick, professional and responsive. I ate at lunch on a Friday and they weren't overly busy. All staff seemed to help each other out. I will be back.

Came here for a birthday celebration and it was such a good choice. The biggest win for me was the roll size, they're smaller, which means you get to try more without feeling overly stuffed. Perfect if you like variety or are doing all-you-can-eat. The vibe really adds to the experience too. High ceilings, open space, and a lively but comfortable energy that works great for groups and celebrations. If you're someone who loves tasting a little bit of everything and wants a spot that feels fun without being overwhelming, this place is worth checking out. Great service, very nice and fast.

The sushi rolls are pretty low quality and small. I haven't been to other sushi places in Reno, so can't compare. Staff seems nice though.

We were seated quickly. Now that can be attributed to the fact that we were early for dinner. We opted for a tabled, but there were plenty of seats available at the sushi bar. We only waited for a few minutes before the first wave of fish was delivered. Throughout dinner, we never had to wait long for the sushi to be delivered. The atmosphere was decent. It felt like it was more of a storefront than a traditional restaurant. But, it was a storefront and I don't care about that. I base my rating on freshness, service and cleanliness of the store. One thing that surprised me was the Kani (crab). I ordered it wondering if it would be real crab or imitation. It was real! I was happy and surprised. I ate my fill. Appetizers, nigiri, and rolls here are usually a smidge behind Tokyo in variety, taste, and fish to rice ratio on the nigiri, but still very good -- definitely above average. They did dial back the amount of sugar in their rice since the last time I was here. Kudos! The dining experience here is a much more low-stress experience than Tokyo Sushi. There's usually little to no wait unless you're in a large group, as opposed to Tokyo's madhouse that has waits frequently of an hour. Music isn't blasting so you can hear the person at the other side of the table speak, and service is consistently excellent in the relatively small dining room. It's about $4 less expensive with tax and tip then Tokyo also at $42 vs $46 total as of July 2026. I ordered two rolls, the negi toro roll and the fire ocean roll. I literally have pictures of both because the rice to fish ratio is a complete joke for what they are charging you. It was basically a giant mountain of rice with a tiny sliver of fish hidden inside. The food could have been salvageable but the service was also bad. I was given two sushi rolls with no soy sauce plate, no chopsticks and no napkins. I had to sit there staring at my food while it sat warm on the table. I also ordered edamame and it's a miracle that you can dry something out by steaming it. It was completely shriveled and uneditable.
