We were traveling to Southern California and decided to check out Urban Plates so we took a little detour route. From the moment we entered the front door, we were greeted with a friendly cheerful voice and smile. We checked out their menu choices and decided on their steak and salad/veggies options and skipped the bread!! The chimichurri sauce was AWESOME!! Grass fed steak cooked to perfection. The salad was also delicious!! The employees walked around asking if everything was ok and if we needed anything. We had a very nice chat. At the time of the visit, there was a big devastated fire going. The gentleman thanked us for our support. Overall, an awesome experience. The food was fresh. A healthier choice. My husband and I came into urban plates today after doing some shopping on lake and we're really impressed by the selections here! I have lived in Pasadena for years and have always wanted to stop by and I was so glad I finally did today. Stephanie helped us out since it was our first time there and she was so patient and amazing. I have worked customer service in the food service industry for years so I know how to recognize good service and I really felt like she went above and beyond to accommodate us and make personal recommendations on the food. She suggested the blackened salmon and it was so good. She checked up on us after just to make sure that we really enjoyed our experience. We will definitely be coming back next time we're around! We have been to the Pasadena Urban Plates several times in the last couple of months, and have had the same problem, i.e., the food is lukewarm, at best. We have ordered entrees at approximately $20/plate, and they are always barely warm. This price point is high for food that is nearly cold. Additionally, the Brussel sprouts appear to be warmed in a microwave and do not appear to be grilled or roasted; as a result, a side dish, that has the potential to be spectacular, is barely ok to eat. We love roasted/grilled vegetables, but these vegetables are not appetizing. We are sorry for this experience, as we live close by, like the menu and location on Lake. Used to frequent Urban Plates in Brea and loved the food, so when I passed by the one in Pasadena, I was starving and was super excited to be able to order all my usual favorites. The lunch for the two of us w/drinks came out to over $90 (to be fair, we each ordered alcohol), but the presentation wasn't great and the taste of the food was pretty disappointing. We went on a Thursday night at roughly 8pm, there isn't a lot of customers and we were helped immediately. The food came out in about 10 minutes after ordering and they were perfect! I love the mushrooms, carrots and beets, and brussel sprouts as their sides! So soft so flavorful and if not enough flavor, add salt yourself! My steak was cooled medium rare with chimichurri sauce and it was delicious! All I can say is 5 star on the food since not much service was truly provided. Absolutely love this place! We always grab to go orders for work and everything is ALWAYS literally perfect. We never have had anything missing. The perfect amount of straws & utensils and most importantly every thing is always fresh and perfectly cooked!! The manager told me to message him and I emailed him twice and never heard back. Very disappointing that you ask customer to reach out on their experience and you wouldn't even respond. I'm still extremely disappointed and frustrated with my experience here especially when they overcharged me and when I complained they told me it's only a $2 difference in overcharge not a big deal and the food was cold and not tasty. read more

Tonight's dinner was takeout from a longtime favorite of my wife's and her lady's cancer group. Since she happened to be in the area today. A first time try for me and our son. Viewing their menu, I chose the Grilled Grass Fed Steak Sandwich with Chips. Tender and flavorful beef on a French roll, which also included in-house prepared chips. A good first impression. My son was okay with his Caesar Salad With Chicken, but didn't think it compares with California Chicken Cafe. However, my wife was perfectly fine with her choice of the Grass Fed Steak Plate. With sides of Balsamic Brussels Sprouts and Roasted Marbled Potatoes. Her first try of that particular menu item. Overall, a very nice try of a new venue for me. I've been here so many times starting in 2015! I love how the food portion and quality is decent and each meal has the right about of protein, carbs and veggies (if you choose to have those sides). It's close to where I go for my swim so it's convenient for me. Parking is validated in the underground covered parking lot but you can also park on the street which makes things easy. I also like the plate pass. For $5/ month you can get 20 percent off your order, which adds up over time if you come here a lot. He checked on us several times throughout our meal and made sure we were doing well. He on his own was HANDS DOWN a five star human being. At first, he wanted to seat us in the back corner but I told him the table was too small and he accommodated us with a bigger table. Our server Kiana came up to the table with a pleasant smile and greeting to take our drink orders. I got a glass of cranberry juice along with some water. My son got the American Dream cocktail along with some water. We skipped on dessert. From 4-6pm, they have a happy hour menu with some of their cocktails and shareable plates. The portions are just a bit smaller and the prices are a little lower. It's a good way to sample different items. I think we got a good variety of food to enjoy. To start, we got the Little Gem Salad. It was such a unique combination of flavors and SUPER delicate/light. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The next starter was the Zucchini and Feta Fritters, which was good but not the best out of everything else we ordered. The zucchini was a bit mushy but the batter it was fried in was crispy. Another starter we shared were the Moroccan Spiced Chicken Wings. These wings are gigantic and very flavorful. They definitely pack some heat, so be careful. I don't think the A/C was NOT working to begin with, so the place was already hot. The wings made us sweat even more. For entrées, we got the burger and the pork belly. The bun, the meat, the cheese, the onions, and the crispy bacon...all of it mixed together into the perfect burger. I had wanted to add some mushrooms and avocado to it, but Kiana said they were unable to do it. I also asked for lettuce and she said that would be an extra charge. What extra charge for lettuce? We still got charged for avocado when the bill came, but they took it off once we mentioned it. The pork belly was also very tender, flavorful, and crispy. It's just hard to compete with the burger! We also got an order of the Belgian Fries to share and we were both pleasantly surprised at how good they were. The fries are salty and cut pretty thick. The sauce that came on the side was so yummy. We asked for a small extra cup to-go. All in all, the food was great and we liked everything. The vibe of the restaurant wasn't really all that for me. Brian genuinely made up for anything that was lacking in the atmosphere. He is such a wonderful asset to the restaurant and their company. The restaurant itself has been here for about 15 years now and it used to be a very old house. You can tell when you look around. They did a good job with the renovations, but you can see the different areas/rooms. I think they tried to keep the casual comfort of a home, while making it a slightly elevated experience. I had such a great experience at Urban Plates in Pasadena! From the moment I walked in, everything felt welcoming, clean, and organized. The staff was super friendly and patient while I decided what to order, and the food came out fresh and hot. I ordered the crispy fried chicken plate, and it was honestly amazing. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. You could tell it was made fresh and not sitting around. The fries were golden and lightly seasoned -- not greasy at all -- and the green beans were cooked perfectly, still bright and flavorful with a nice little snap to them. I also loved the slice of bread on the side; it was soft with a little crisp on the outside and topped with herbs that gave it extra flavor. I typed lemonade on Yelp to get the address and urban plates popped up...they tryna steal my business from lemonade. Well I fell for it! Since I was with one of my homeboy and not a girl, I hesitated about taking him to lemonade because it's a bit on the slim side. It seems that urban plates got some healthy options,but also a dank ass looking steak at the same time. ^.^ 10 minutes later, we rolled up to urban plates and the homie parallel parked his whip like a G. We got to the line and was a bit confused about how to order. Finally we learned that if you're here for the steak, then please pass by all the peepz that are waiting by the salad bar. Ain't no salad eating rabbits in me today! Give me Mah Meat! the Season and sauce on my steak was great. Seriously, I was so HEPPY. the one serious thing that they got to fix is how to deliver a hot steak. my steak barely had any warmth (it doesn't even deserve the word heat) coming off of it. Since we decided to eat outside...it was literally cold within 5 minutes. Overall I'm digging this alternative to lemonade. Not that I hate lemonade or anything. The sides that came with the steaks were tasty and flavorful. The tomato basil soup I got was wonderfully delicious. Came here two times yesterday because of Javier who helps train staff who travel to this location. I learned his name when he helped with my order. He saw a few minutes later I had spilled a bit of food on my clothing and brought soda water without my asking. Although you order food at the counter and sit yourself, Javier made this a great experience with attentive and warm service. I always order the beef over mashed potatoes or rice. It is delish! The chocolate flourless cake is good, and the cowgirl cookie my favorite of all time. I order at Urban locations as far as Manhattan Beach for my different accounts but Javier makes this location my favorite! People and service especially in these times make the difference and somehow even make the food tastier because you have a positive feeling. The staff at the counter were also so warm asking if I needed assistance and answering any questions I had about the refreshers and dessert. Sounds to be expected, but not so as earlier I had visited a new coffee spot in Pasadena and unfortunately felt the complete opposite as if the staff were annoyed I asked any question. I Love DINING IN @ Urban Plates. No. 1: its nicely decorated, high ceilings, and a wide spacious Restaurant where I dont feel elbow to elbow to the next Table. Theres plenty of Tables to choose from to have plenty of Privacy. This is the perfect place to eat intimately esp when youre on a date or even when youre by yourself... Secondly: the Food is very TASTY, Delicious, and satisfyingly filling. Naturally theres a lot of good places to eat from w "good" food. But the next step is the Customer Service. And everyone is Friendly and kind here. Because I really dont care how good the food is, if the service is LACKING? Theres no way I will come back. You know what they say: "We come for the Food, but we go back for the Service. In particular: JAVIER one of the Workers is GOLDEN. The best personality. Proud Plate Pass member here! ‍ First, I love Urban Plates, especially this location. My toddler is now in the phase of picky eating and for whatever reason, will always eat the grilled salmon here. It also helps that a bunch of buses and trucks pass by while we're eating on the patio, so it almost feels like the kid is getting a free show with his meal. Secondly, I love all the healthy options. I've had all the salads here and they're all delicious. Also, love their seasonal items which changes things up for us. Lastly, I love their mobile app! As parents, we have to be flexible and fast as we never know when our toddler may switch gears on us. So we order while we're driving to Urban Plates via the mobile app (dine-in option) and once we're there, we enter in the table number...and within 10 minutes, our food arrives! So efficient! Especially when you have an impatient toddler, time is of the essence. We stopped by for an early dinner at Urban Plates. As first-timers, we didn't have any go-to items on the menu, but quickly found items with the help of a cashier named Dekayla. We chose our table and were served our wine carafe quickly. Our meals came out soon after. The steak with a chimichurri sauce was delicious and went well the tasty sesame broccolini! The Moroccan chicken was flavorful and substantial. Both salads were flavorful and well-portioned. The location was busy in an efficient way, with staff hustling to meet customers' needs. Besides noticing Dekayla actively maneuvering on her side of the counter, anticipating and meeting customers' needs with a big smile, we also noticed a staff member clearing tables without skipping a beat, and many servers going by with other delicious looking (and smelling) plates. Urban Plates has become a staple for my family and I since we have started coming here in 2021. We are huge fans of the food and have not been disappointed once with anything we have ordered. I highly recommend either the salmon plate or chimichurri steak plate for anyone's first time. The service is always warm and welcoming and like the menu are happy to accommodate anybody's special diet. Sophia took it out with a big smile on her face and made us feel like we were at home. Sitting inside is always nice when it's hot but currently in the fall, sitting by the fire outside, makes it feel like California actually has seasons. As we enjoy our food outside, the jazz that's playing over the speakers helps time stop and helps us enjoy our food and company. Not many restaurants (especially chain restaurants) have it dialed down and nailed as much as urban plates. If you have not visited urban plates before for a nice dinner, then you are surely missing out on a one of a kind experience. read more

Have purchased takeout's and dinned-in 25+ times ( have some receipts as proof); Just a warning, that more than 3 occasions I had developed diarrhea after the meal within 1.5 hours. Based on my observation staff behind the counter uses their hands to pull most of the ingredients out of the metal bins and put on customer's plate ( example: all meat and poultry etc. ) + pulling out salad ingredients and mixing with hand. The staff wares disposable gloves but based on my observation some of the staff keeps same gloves on longer than others while touching drawer handles , surface wipe rag, maybe even the mop; that's why I suspect I get sick from their food sometimes. To my strong advice all ingredients should be served with a serving tong or spoons . I wonder which restaurant consulting experts in the industry conjured up using gloves to pull out ingredients in casual dining restaurants like Urban Plates, Chipotle, etc. but it is very unhealthy for the customer. read more

First time here and everyone is so nice! Maria rang us up and helped us pick some delicious food! The beet salad is super delicious and we will absolutely be back for it again! Mashed potatoes are super smooth and also tasty! It's probably seasonal but the cantaloupe/pineapple/mango drink is delicious (and got a free refill)! Didn't realize till we sat down but we can also order a the table through their QR code! We went to the checkout counter to order and then sat to wait for food and it was a nice chill vibe! The decor is lovely lots of plants all around! They offer a membership option too which is awesome if you live nearby! It's like $5 a month and you get 20% off your purchases. Considering we spent $50 on all our delicious food it's def worth it! I've passed by a ton of time and never stopped in. I work up the street from this restaurant and I've always wanted to see what the hype was. I stepped into the restaurant and felt a little confused until the manager Kyle came to greet me. He went over the most popular items as well as some of his personal favorites. I went with one of his suggestions of the SeaBass with the pilaf rice and rosemary potatoes. The combination of the SeaBass, the hollandaise sauce, and the pilaf rice was the BEST and then the rosemary potatoes were a good filler. My food was brought out by Javier with some speed. He was very attentive and wanted to make sure I had everything that I needed for my meal. I had asked him for some extra hollandaise sauce for my SeaBass and he instantly came back. Urban Plates was such a great place to get food to go during pandemic, and now it's continuing that great service, good food, and friendly customer service as we have begun dining in. We've always appreciated the patient way they take our orders, how they've offered us samples of their delicious aguas/iced teas and even freebie cookies at times! The iced teas are excellent and you can get refills, the cookie is also perfect, and our food is always prepared quickly and so delicious. We typically get the 3 or 4up, or the salads or the steak plate. Today we ordered the Quinoa/Beet bowl with shrimp and it was all made to perfection. The dressing was tasty. We've been there quite a few times before (pasadena) and I really love their salmon! It's my fave out of the plates they have, altho the steak comes in close on 2nd place. Their sides are good especially the brussels sprouts. Their drinks (replenisher) are tasty and refreshing and the desserts are so good especially the banana cream pie. Today, we had a little reunion gathering and we stayed in the restaurant for quite a long time but everyone was nice. No one tried to make us leave or make us feel like we're on their way and another employee even helped take a group picture for us. Maria, the cashier who helped us was very nice and had a lovely, positive service and was very patient even when our group took awhile to decide their orders. Last friday i had an experience that will forever change how i feel about this restaurant and specifically, the server naned Ashley who was an absolute angel andbsaint. Not only is she stunningly beautiful and witty to boot, she helped me from a space of true endearing kindness. Its extremely difficult foe me to see menus etc without reading glasses and i was a bit overwhelmed when trying to order food for two friends who were hiding from their violently abusive boyfriends at my house. I was already stressed out to the point of tears and the menu frustrated me terribly... but Ashley (who is my peesonal hero) made ebery aspect of that experience pleasantly efficient. This dish comes as two separate plates: one with the ricotta-filled crepes and another with eggs, sausage, bacon, and your choice of fries or tater tots. Unfortunately, the crepes are the weakest part of the meal. The ricotta-filled crepes don't taste freshly made and instead resemble a pre-made food-service product that's simply reheated before serving. Both the crepe and ricotta filling have a generic flavor with noticeable artificial notes. You can choose either banana or strawberry topping, but both sauces taste overly processed and artificial. The accompanying breakfast plate is noticeably better. I chose the tater tots, which were well prepared - crispy on the outside while remaining soft inside. The bacon, however, was again overcooked and dry, making it tough to chew. The sausage was acceptable but unremarkable. Scrambled Supreme - 2.5/5. Despite the name, this is essentially an omelet. The eggs have a mild, neutral flavor, and the fillings are okay but don't stand out. Coffee - 2/5. The coffee is classic diner coffee in every sense. It's somewhat watery, heavily roasted, and finishes with a flat, slightly bitter aftertaste. It's neither particularly good nor particularly bad - just standard coffee that does the job. Overall, The Reyn succeeds as a comfortable, affordable breakfast spot with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. While the food is average, and several dishes rely on ingredients that taste commercially prepared rather than freshly made.

Love that it comes on a bed of fluffy rice. The sauces here are so good - garlic sauce and tahini are actually way better than anywhere else. Great deals because most items are under $20. I definitely will have to come back here more often!! Service is friendly and they make everything to order so it's not that fast but it's ok! Ambiance is very casual. I may lack the background to appreciate their mediterranean dishes but I have tried them. I still prefer the chicken, it is a safer choice if you are that not into Mediterranean foods. Hot sauce, garlic sauce, and the pita bread are a must. The nutty dessert baklava is good as well, sweet & sticky. Overall. This is a good place that offers amazing rotisserie chicken, way better than the ones from the supermarkets or the wholesales place. Just my two cents. Make your choice wisely ;)
