As a disclaimer, this review does not include the food as just a few min after walking in was enough to walk out of it. Pretentious place with rude staff welcoming you. My girlfriend and I tried to check out this place for a date night. Came in to the restaurant and tried to talk to one of the two hostesses, both of which were talking to an old man on his way out. Neither of them bothered to acknowledge new customers had walked in through the door in front of them and kept talking to the guy for a few min. After they were done talking, one of them finally acknowledged my presence. I asked to see a menu and she pointed outside and said that there was one at the wall outside the restaurant (even though she had several menus in front of it and courtesy would dictate she would hand me one). She also mentioned they were "booked" while, from a visual inspection, they were at most 60% full. While I was already pretty determined to leave, a look at the menu confirmed the decision given very limited options and all ridiculously overpriced. Maybe the food is amazing but the place and service certainly isn't. Edit: As you can clearly see from this and every other response from the owner, they do not take feedback and instead come up with excuses placing blame back on the patron. Also, I didn't even sit in the place so that's just merely a lie. Stay away, folks. read more

The was not the best I've ever had, but okay. The service was more than excellent as well as the ambiance. I'm very particular about what I eat. So most people would have enjoyed it. Aside from the snail pace service, the very ordinary appetizers we ordered, and the just fair onion soup and caesar salad, to pay these kind of prices and have a sour wait person serving us was just too much. For example, desert menus were given to us after the main course, I handed mine back to the server but she placed it down in front of me again, and when I picked up the desert menu to give it back to her, she snarled at me and said "just wait a minute" and grabbed the menu away from me. No thanks, I don't need to be treated this way. I will never return to Violet Bistro again. read more

Awful experience! Menus rotate so you're not sure what you can get till you get there. I ordered steak frites but because I wanted my meat well done they said it would take about 45 minutes to do it. I gave up and ordered a quiche. Honestly the frozen quiche at Trader Joe's is better than this one. All I could taste was the veggies, and it was $30! Fries with ketchup $23!!! Love this place!! The us a fantastic new restaurant in Westwood village, which never happens. I highly recommend this place. The ambiance and decor is lovely, you feel instantly transported to Europe. And the food, I have nothing bad to say. Everything we ordered was more delicious than the next. We had the baguette with butter, heirloom tomato salad, summer ratatouille, mac and cheese, plant burger, halibut, flat iron steak frites. Mexican chocolate cake and the Pavlova. My favorite place to eat in LA. We ordered the Melon and Tomato salad, the artichoke Frits, and the stake with truffle butter. Everything was delicious and perfect for a relaxed Sunday evening meal. You can really tell the ingredients are fresh as the meal leaves you satiated without the discomfort. From the fabulous ambience including the outdoor patio, the friendly and professional staff, and most importantly it's about the amazing mouth watering beyond delicious flavorful food. We ordered the salmon and lentils, steak frites, braised leeks, profiteroles, and basque cheesecake-- the salmon was so tender and flaky, the fries were nicely cut and crispy, my sister loved the profiteroles, and the basque cheesecake paired great with the strawberry and raspberry topping. We were so excited when this spot opened in Westwood and felt really bad that it coincided with Covid. When we finally visited we were really excited. Our party of 4 was seated in the back patio which had a pleasant ambience. Overall the service was fair but the food didn't live up to what we expected. First we were told they were out of the steak frites at 6.30pm. When we asked when they ran out as you may expect that at 9.30pm they Said immediately as they began dinner service. This was very disappointing as that was why half our party of four came there. We moved on. The baguette priced at $7 for small portion of bread was good though do they really have to charge for that especially given how expensive everything else is? Their fancy version of a Mac and cheese with gruyere and breadcrumbs came within 2 minutes of ordering it. Cold and clearly premade. We sent it back and the waiter was embarrassed how cold it was. When it returned we had lost our appetite for it and it was very average. The caeser salads were very mediocre as were the burgers which looked great but didn't deliver the taste. Our burgers $21 each came a la carte so another $10 for frites which actually weren't frites at all made for a very over priced combo. By the end we were in and out pretty quickly as the overall experience sadly disappointed. Maybe just a bad night. read more

My wife and I had an absolutely fabulous dinner and a wonderful overall experience at Violet. To start, the ambiance and service were perfect. The steak au poivre was simply divine, the mussels were *chef's kiss*, and the chocolate mousse with peanut butter brittle was a deliciously sweet grand finale. The owner, Dana, is a gracious host and gets a thumbs up for treating us like true guests.
