We had been here twice before and ordered the vegan burger and it was amazing. We came again for a special occasion, and for the prices they charge, the food did not rise to the occasion at all. We had the vegan burger again, and it was not the same as far as the consistency of the burger and none of the savory flavors as before. The regular burger was nothing special. I will say the ambience of the restaurant is beautiful, and the dessert was delicious; but overall, very disappointing. read more

Delicious food. The pan seared salmon was perfect, the skin was crispy and just the right amount of juicy, and the salmon was tender and flavorful. The steak was just as perfect, and the frites were not just great looking, they were like warm golden surprises, big slices with a crisp outside and a delicate inner side. From the moment you step into Violet you enter a calm and welcoming atmosphere with smiling eyes and happy tones. Safety is utmost, with a quick temperature check, masks and plenty of cleaning - but it's not an inconvenience, and you quickly forget about it as you are seated in their wonderful courtyard. Cocktails are individual and well balanced, and the food very well prepared, with interesting flavors. Portions are healthy (we boxed what we had left - too good to leave). Not a huge menu, but all the better for it as it means the focus is on the food - seafood, meat and vegetarian. Desserts were awesome too! I had the great pleasure of dining at Violet's Bistro last evening. I thought it would be my typical restaurant experience---eating salad and bland protein. I have Celiac and I'm also allergic to the casein protein in dairy. That means no gluten and no creams, cheese, sauces---or anything particularly tasty. But my goodness was I mistaken. Our delightful server directed me to their sumac-aleppo rubbed chicken. It was divine--perfectly prepared and accompanied by delicata squash in a sage sauce that honestly, you just have to try. I thought it couldn't get any better until a gluten free and vegan chocolate mousse with a coconut based whipped "creme" arrived. Oh my goodness. I told the lovely manager that it was one of the best meals I'd had in decades and I wasn't kidding. Based on how that meal settled, I can tell you that not only were its ingredients GF and vegan, but it was prepared with zero cross-contamination in an allergy free space. Kudos to the entire staff at Violet's for a delectable, memorable, allergy safe-meal. This beautiful bistro has accomplished what most other restaurants simply can't. read more

It is rare that you get a 'trifecta' when you dine out. Well we hit it big time when we decided to try a new spot in Westwood. Violet---AMBIANCE: makes you feel like you are somewhere else ( and during COVID very much needed) attention to detail was key. We were welcomed in to a cozy table on the patio where the warmth of the environment made us feel so comfortable. SERVICE: our server was genuinely interested in our meal, explained preparation and you could see the chef in the kitchen (window) my husband ordered a lemonade and it came to the table with a violet top- freshly made and magical to see. FOOD well the Halibut was as my hubby stated ' the best meal out he has had all year!!!/ We did not order the cauliflfower but I would recommend- it looks like a piece of art. So we tried Violet in Westwood Village...- new restaurant only a month old.......cubside pick up IT IS SIMPLY DELISH & TERRIFIC...... we had the Gruyere Cheeseburger on brioche w/ carameiized onions on the side....Medium - (perfect medium)......delicious tasting beef!!.. had their French fries - which are the very different than American - different shape & delish!.....& Crispy - roasted Brussel Sprouts w/chopped almonds & the dressing was perfect!.... Got curb-side service - & food was hot when I got home! Daniel my contact at Violet was so pleasant & helpful & called after to be sure that everything was perf!....and it was!! Cute ambiance, lovely staff. There is a courtyard in the back. We combined the in house made ice cream with chocolate cake for dessert and it was delicious. The tables around us got the cheesecake with mulberries so maybe that is the more popular one to try? read more

I was excited to see a new restaurant in Westwood (the space used to be Saks teriyaki - a local favorite). The courtyard is charming, but food is mediocre and overpriced. Think $11 for a rock hard baguette. The Salad d'espinard was tasteless and looked thrown together last minute. I appreciated the mushroom based onion soup, but it was very salty. So, I never write reviews...Because it requires an extraordinary experience to motivate me to do so. I will go on record to say that I (and two friends) had an AMAZING meal from Violet. I ordered to pick up and the presentation was charming. The thoughtfulness of a chocolate chip cookie and slender baguette accompanying the sumptuous dinner made for a perfect and well rounded meal at a reasonable price. The salmon was perfect! I plan to dine in person at their stylishly designed restaurant, think French countryside meets Santa Barbara, when they open for in-dining, which I think is around now. Such a beautiful and great setting, cozy tables on the patio and all. Unfortunately the food underperformed - tuna nicoise salad which our waitress had raved about was way over-dressed and cloyingly sweet. Under different circumstances I would have sent it back and gotten something else but 2 of my other tablemates had ordered the same thing and I didn't want to make them uncomfortable. Also, the restaurant is ridiculously overpriced: $11 for a demi-baguette and butter provides a snapshot of the pricing here. I won't be back. read more

Oh so tasty. Sat at the bar and the bartender was very kind and attentive. Had the liver mousse and mussel escabeche, both were great. Basque cheesecake for dessert, pretty much the best dessert of all time. A lot of attention to detail in the restaurant, very nice bathrooms and everyone was very hospitable. Super Salty Food - I was so disappointed by the food quality & service, especially at the restaurant's price points. All entrees were overly salty. I sent mine back & had to wait forever for a replacement dish and to get the waiter's attention (yes, even after asking busboy to find the waiter). There is nothing quite like Violet! I dined there the first week it opened on the back patio and loved every minute of my lunch and the ambience. It has also become our new go-to for ordering in because there is something on the menu for everyone. As a vegetarian, the Whole Roasted Cauliflower is the perfect main course, but the Violet Rice and the Summer Ratatouille are my favorite menu items by far. In fact, just order me a trough of each. My family, who indulge in the rest of the menu, rave about the Flat Iron Steak Frites and The Rotisserie Chicken. Food was delicious. The ratatouille, cauliflower and forbidden rice were some of our favorites. The halibut was also delicious, but it was a small portion. The halibut came on a bed of corn which was also very tasty. The steak was overcooked (we ordered it medium and there was no pink) and they gave us the hamburger instead of the chicken sandwich we ordered. We got the log of cookie dough and cooked it ourself. A+ cookies! The chocolate cake was good but not amazing. It had a slight liquor taste to it. The food came out 15 minutes later than we were told to arrive for our curbside pick. Overall, it was a good experience and we will definitely be ordering from here again. read more

Violet is a hidden Gem. This was our first restaurant night out after 3 months of lockdown and it was fantastic. Huge outside patio for a beautiful outdoor dining experience. We felt very spread apart from other people and very safe. Great wine selection, The salmon I ordered was cooked perfectly, the pastries a work of Art.
