When it comes to Chinese food this place is a real gem! Quality is as good as it gets, and the portions are the most generous you will find at very reasonable prices. You cannot go wrong ordering any of the noodle dishes and has the least amount of grease except for the boxed lunch specials. I have yet to see any burnt noodles here, and the veggies are cooked nice and soft. I have to assume the negative reviews I read must pertain to their boxed lunch specials which I never order because all their cook-to-order items are first rate. Waitress is super nice. Only drawback is since they are busy during peak periods and even off-peak periods you can expect a longer wait for your food. Golden China has a long list of regulars for a very good reason and isn't the place to go to if you're in a hurry. read more

Wang Wah is life! I go here all the time and the woman treats us like family. Other Chinese restaurants treat Black people differently, she doesn't! It's relatively cheap, you get huge portions, and everything is made when you order it. ALWAYS choose this over Panda Express. Wow, I don't know how this place got 4 stars because there is really nothing good in here. First of all, the food wasn't good at all. The chicken that we ordered was too salty and dry. Second, the place was too small that the server's arm was all over my face when she was putting our food on the table. Lastly, customer service is SO BAD! Servers are rude especially if you are not the same race as they are. We asked the servers many times that we were ready to order but they just keep passing by us. This lady put all the plates and forks in front us and didn't even bothered fixing and she hand it like she was mad or something. Then, waiting for our orders took so long and yet they still forgot to give us our rice. Told ALL three servers in the restaurant and again, the wait was too long that I just canceled it. When we got our bill, I wanted to make sure that she didn't charge us for the rice but the writing was in Mandarin/Chinese so I asked her because I don't understand, and she just gave me an attitude, raising her voice telling me which one she charged me. I was asking nicely because I don't understand the writing. So is that what you call customer service?!!! I'm writing this review to save others from this disaster.. There's more Chinese restaurant around that is worth your money, have better service and choices of food but NOT this one. read more

Found myself in the area and was craving Chinese food. I turned to yelp for a good Chinese restaurant and thought I couldn't go wrong with a restaurant who has a review average of four stars. I was wrong. I ordered combination egg rolls, chow mein, general chicken, Mongolian beef, and chicken with steamed vegetables. For $38, the portions were decently sized, but the food is possibly the worst Chinese food I've had in San Francisco. All of the food lacked any flavor. This is what I imagine Chinese food in Nebraska tastes like, not a restaurant on Ocean Avenue. If I didn't hate wasting food so much, I'd throw this away and go get Panda Express. Service is not the fastest but alright. On a day when dungess crab is 2.99 from the chinese grocery store, its 12.99 here with garlic and scallions. Not bad. Screw PPQ and those other rip off places. The food here in general is inexpensive and not the highest quality, just very average ingredients. But the cook it alright. This spot's right down the street from me, located about 3 blocks from City College. Hole-in-the-wall. My family and I have been dining here since 2002. The old lady is nice and has been there forever. Their prices are so frikin cheap and the portions are huge. I usually get the "A" combo which I highly recommend. (Chow mein, sweet and sour pork/chicken, and 2 pieces of fried shrimp). They're extremely fast at getting your dish out right after you order (about 5 minutes). Or like I do, you just order 10 minutes ahead, so by the time you come in for take out (or dine in) the food'll already be ready. If she's familiar with you, she'll know your dish right when she see's you or even by calling to order, she'll recognize your voice and already know what you want to order. The place is not all that clean but it's balanced out by the food quality and the prices. There's like 2 spaces of side parking available but you can always park in the Walgreens parking lot right next store to the restaurant. Unless your unusually pick, you'll enjoy it. Definitely a place I'd recommended. I used to eat there 3 to 4 times a week, no lie, but due to the recession....well, you know the rest. =) read more

Not much to rave about from the street or in the dining room, but the food is really, really good. And the people are sweet. It's like being in your grandmother's kitchen, very small and wonderful-smelling, with women busy stuffing little dumplings. We loved the duck, and the chicken wonton soup is definitely comfort food (great also for when you have a cold). Prices are incredibly low! This is a family favorite for takeout. read more

This Chinese hole-in-the-wall is crazier than most of the Chinese diners I've visited in this city. For one thing, I've seen Chinese men sit and drink Heineken beer from a 12-can case that sat on their table. I'm pretty sure this restaurant does not have a liquor license. Cleanliness? No, if that's important to you. I know to discreetly wipe down the table and utensils when I go there. On one visit they actually served tea in a dirty teapot that had a chunk of dried food stuck to the outside of it. The caption on one of the photos says all rice is free, yet I am always charged for rice when I order their yummy vegetable egg foo yung that comes with really tasty gravy. I've also tried the mongolian beef, but it wasn't very good. The service has never been great, but sometimes it is so slow you have to wonder if they're making too much money to care. Even though they close at 9:00 p.m., don't go in after 7:30 because they are worn out by then and let you know they don't really want to serve you. Again, lots of craziness here! this is my favorite local chinese to-go joint and i've gotten take-out here many times. primarily because they have that special 3 entrees for $21 deal, which is a pretty sweet deal and very economical as the portions lasts me a couple of days. it's just your basic cantonese style fobby mom-n-pop neighborhood restaurant. the food is pretty good for non-fancy home style cantonese food. i wouldnt exactly call this place a hole-in-the-wall like some other reviewers called it. it's probably one notch above it as even tho it's fairly plain in decor and a bit unkempt, it's pretty clean even in the bathroom. (personally i dont like dining in or getting take-out at dirty hole-in-the-wall places even if the food is great.) yes it does have a strange odor, but i attribute that to the funky chinese ingredients they use that's imported from china like black mushrooms, herbs and dried seafood. ;) i chit-chat with the owner every time i go in and she's fairly nice if you try to get to know her. she even gave me some of the yummy soup they cooked for their employees lunch. ;) read more

i love this place. the lunch prices are pretty cheap, and the food is excellent. though they recently jacked up the prices a few cents, it's still worth it. they give you plenty of food. sometimes i actually asked for an extra bowl of rice just to accommodate all my tomato beef. the family that owns it is really nice. very friendly service. only reason i give it four stars is because the place just looks run down a bit and the recent increase in prices. other than that i don't care too much about the atmosphere because the food is awesome! i introduced many friends to this place and they love it. see you there at wang wah's restaurant. read more
