This place is right on point. I get my food quick and fast. The lady that runs this spot is super cool and thoughtful. She always knows my voice when I call and never has me waiting any longer than 5 minutes for my food. I have been coming here for 5 years now and the prices are extremely reasonable. I'm updating my review because I came back for the beef chow fun and tofu and beef over rice. Super yummy. I guess the last time was simply a fluke. I'll admit it does smell a bit odd in there, but the food is good so oh well. Also, either they r over charging me a bit or the prices displayed on the Yelp menu are are incorrect. This has been out go to spot for my family for 20 years now. The owner remembers me from when I was just a child, and she now always asks how my son is doing. The owner runs the show and she's the best at it! She is very sweet and caring. All of her food is delicious, and I've tried just about everything on the menu. Haven't been to Wang Wah (Golden China) for years and noticed they remodeled the entire restaurant after the fire next door. I was surprised the lady owner of this place still recognized my face after all these years right when I walked into the restaurant and asked how my family was doing. This is the typical mom and pop business with family members helping out in the back. We ordered Pork Chops and Ong Choy which came with soup and rice. The owner is very nice and will make you feel like you're at home. For the regulars, the owner will remember everyones orders, I would never need to look at the menu when I eat here. I also noticed the owner will go out of her way to the grocery store next door to buy ingredients that they ran out for a customers dish. That is dedication right there for the loyal customers. Was pleasantly surprised to find pretty great Chinese food here. I have been living in the area for the past 10 years, and have probably passed this place many times while walking on Ocean Ave, never bothered giving it a chance. My family and I were lazy to cook and decided to check out this small place, and we will definitely be back. It doesn't get too cramped in here as most people tend to get their orders to go. Love that they offer free soup with the meal. Everything we had was delicious! I don't think you can go wrong with any dish you order. Plus the prices are super reasonable ! I was really craving some noodles when I was passing through town. A quick search on the app, it brought up this place. I didn't expect much when I showed up, and I wasn't wrong. I ordered the roasted duck, wonton hoa fun. The roasted duck was ok, a little on the fatty side. The wontons were a little off tasting though. This evening, I'm making my third visit to Golden China this year and I don't even live in San Francisco. The food is delicious. This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants by far. After reading some Yelp reviews and seeing the killer lunch deal, I decided to get the takeout lunch special that has chowmein, sweet and sour pork, an egg roll and 2 deep fried shrimp for like $6. The portion was ENORMOUS (mostly chow mein) and I ate way less than a quarter of it. The chowmein was way too greasy, and the sweet and sour pork didn't taste very good. I wasn't a fan. The egg roll had a weird smell to it, like over used grease maybe. It seems that they do have fans though, because when I went to pick up my food, the restaurant was pretty crpwded with Asian construction dudes chowing down. So who knows. I don't eat Chinese food too often but if I crave it at lunch again, there are a ton of other options in this neighborhood that I would try first. read more

I can't say enough nice things about this place! I really wish I had gotten the woman's name who was working the front, because she has to be by far one of the sweetest and most thoughtful waitresses I've ever had the pleasure of being around. She was the only one waiting tables, and she also took the phone orders and rang everyone up. Everything she said was accompanied by a genuine smile and friendly conversation, and more often than not, she'd notice and deliver to our table something we needed before we could even make a request for it. Our food was fantastic! We ordered the potstickers, cashew chicken, mongolian beef, and walnut prawns. It took a bit for our food to come out, but nothing out of the ordinary. It came out hot and fresh, I feel silly pointing out that I could taste the actual freshness, but it really stood out for me-- the vegetables were crisp and delicious, and I hate vegetables! Have been for dim sum a couple of times. Everything, including service, has been good to excellent. During our last visit we had warm baked dessert bows fresh from the oven. It's the return of the old dirty chinese restaurant review. They're hole in the walls. They're family run. They're a little grimey. They're cheap. And they're goood. I go for the Specialty boxes that even a toddler can easily order. They are conveniently labled (A - H). I usually go for a B (egg roll, 2 fried prawns, bbq pork fried rice, beef broccoli). But then I also like G (egg roll, 2 fried prawns, shrimp fried rice, beef broccoli). Or I can go chicken crazy with C (2 fried chicken wings, cashew nut chicken, chicken chow mein)! The food can be a little salty, so I tell the nice old lady. "Siu yeam, please"; which translates to "hey ma, i don't want that msg jibba jabba in my pork fried rice, you dig??" Prices: the prices at Golden China Restaurant are incredibly low! Lunch specials start at $4.75 and dinner specials start at $5.25. I've stuck with the specials and combination plates and I have never spent more than $13 (without gratuity) for two people. Everything is affordable here. Portions: the portions are extremely generous. I can eat far more than the average person so if I think the portions are generous than I'd say you would too. Taste: everything I've tried has been good although nothing really stands out. The past couple of times the fried rice has lacked that oily component you find in most fried rice dishes - but this is a good thing. I thought the Mongolian beef had too many vegetables and not enough beef. Service: the service is definitely on the slow side. There is usually only one person waiting on all the tables and they're constantly filling to go orders. You have to be patient and prepare yourself for a wait. My suggestion would be not to show up starving to death because you'll probably lose your patience quicker that way. I always keep in mind it's a family ran business...and somehow that seems to increase my patience. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The food taste good and is priced right. Wang Wah, what can I say. Truly, a great place to eat for lunch and dinner. Authentic Chinese food that offers a rich selection of variety and taste. Comfort food at its core and very fulfilling as well! If you get the letter orders (F, G, H, J, etc), you get fried rice or chow mein, chicken/pork/beef, and usually prawns with an egg roll. It's like Panda Express on steroids. The presentation looks similar but the quality and taste is much better. Certainly a place where you can feast. I used to get the letter orders but now I do family style because I want to tone it down. Keep in mind that Wang Wah tends to get busy during lunch time as the construction workers start piling in. But they have ample seating and to-go is also not a bad idea. If you go here, you will find yourself coming back again -- and that is okay. I would say the perfect way to describe this place would be Americanized Chinese with Large portions at great prices! Ive only been here once, last week, but I've heard they recently remodeled and its nice. I like that they have forks placed at your table, and you if you want chopsticks you can ask for them. I went for dinner and the service is slow. Only one waiter. Alot of folks were getting their food to go, I might do that next time. I think it might be different during lunch.
