Came to Wolfgang's on a Monday night at 7:30 as part of a bday group of 5. After being seated, we were presented with the drink menus and offered some table bread while the guest of honor mulled over the wine list. Round 1 - Malbec and a dozen oysters. The oysters were fresh and came out with a heaping bowl of horseradish, which really cleared the nostrils lol. For Round 2, we opted to go family style with the porterhouse for 4 ( = 2 orders) and sides of brussels, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. When we were asked how the steaks should be cooked, we said medium rare for both. Oh man...if what we got initially was 'medium rare' (i.e., mostly raw)...ordering 'rare' would involve no cooking at all. Both steaks arrived practically still mooing. After a couple of us got through the first couple bites, group consensus was to ask if they could be thrown back on the grill/oven for a bit more. Eventually the steaks came back and were a bit more palatable/safe, but...I guess I was just expecting a bit more for a reputable steak house. The sides, and service, btw - were fine. For dessert, the choice was the chocolate mousse cake, accompanied by their homemade whipped cream. Actually pretty darn yummy - I'm normally ambivalent about chocolate mousse cakes, but really enjoyed this one; and who doesn't love whipped cream? All in all...this was a rather disappointing outing, celebrations aside. Having been to Wolfgang's spot at the Borgata, I had much higher expectations for the Park Ave location. If you're going to charge $80+ for a steak...you would have thought they'd be a bit more competent in knowing how to cook, especially to the popular temperature of medium rare. You like New York Steakhouses? If you do, this should be on your 'must do' list. The interior harkens to the days of the classic New York subway station. While it can be noisy when it's full, it's like stepping back in time when you enter here...this is the old New York vibe. The food is solid, not over the top...it's very good..but it's the ambience, the service and the people that draws you to this place. While the steaks are very good..what really separates this place from the others is the burger...yes, you heard that right...the burger and it is great. It's mixed on site that day and is probably the best you will have in New York if you like steakhouse burgers...which I do. The ground dry-aged prime sirloin gives it a perfect texture and flavor. This burger soars compared to other burgers in NYC....it's a must try...however, it's only on the lunch menu so call ahead to see if then can put one (or more) aside for you for dinner. It was my big bros birthday, so we got the royal treatment. Walking into Wolfgang's with him felt like walking into the strip club with James Harden right after a first-round playoff exit. The whole staff coming up to him dapping him up, with all the restaurant patrons whispering amongst themselves trying to figure out who he is. One staff member shouted, "Mr. Bloomberg is in the building!!" While another one came up to dap him up saying "It's big bro!" He responded with a disarming smile, slapping his hand away and going for the hug while saying "Nah you know you're my big homie!!" I got a little shy during all this commotion so went to the bar and started with an espresso martini to wake me up and get me out of my shell a little bit. We were then seated at the best table in the joint. The bread to start off was immaculate, I probably had 4 pieces. I love bread. My only complaint was the butter was ice cold. Me and my homie were inspired and began to discuss making a heated butter knife and selling it to steakhouses. I mean there is a major gap in the market for this. Sit back and visualize how optimal a lukewarm butter knife would be to spread your butter perfectly all over every corner of the bread. I can see millions. We all got the porter house steak medium rare (obviously), and it was absolutely to die for. The best steak I have had in NYC if I'm being really honest, and I can only speak the truth. **delayed review: Disappointing Experience on 4/11/2024** FOOD was good, BUT SERVICE was horrible. We came with a party of 13 and spent over $1,000, which we didn't mind, but the overall experience was terrible. The waiter lacked patience, making us feel like we were at a military base--definitely not the kind of experience we were hoping for. We wanted to order individual meals, but the waiter insisted on family-style dining, which we didn't like. The sides were small and limited, leaving us unsatisfied. The bread and butter were served cold. When we asked for a salad, we were told they don't have any. We also requested soda with no ice, but it was served with ice anyway. When we politely reminded the waiter about our request, he replied, "Well, it's going to be hot," and left the glass with iced soda. Overall, a very unpleasant dining experience. This steakhouse is fantastic. Reservations were surprisingly not very hard to come by given the small dining area. There's a small bar area where you can wait or just grab a couple pre-dinner drinks (bar and dining tabs are kept separately and don't carry over). We had a half dozen oysters, the porterhouse for two (HIGHLY RECOMMEND), the German potatoes, and creamed spinach, accompanied by a couple cocktails and wine. We had an amazing meal at Wolfgang's tonight. It was a bit loud and busy in the restaurant. A bit hard to hear the conversation at my own table, but the food was well worth it. Lobster bisque was the soup of the day, and it had big chunks of lobster in it. It tasted delicious. The steak was the highlight of the night. It came out sizzling on a hot plate and already cut into nice slices ready to serve. The meat cut like butter and was so tender and flavorful. Came here with some good friends. The Park Ave location is the most consistent in terms of quality and service Pros: the service is impeccable and we had multiple waiters attending to us. The steak is their signature dish and an absolute must. When it comes to your table, the waiters create an amazing show and serves everyone in sync. The sauce of the steak is so flavorful and makes the tender steak even more juicy. Word of advice- order the steak for 1 less than the amount of people you have. The portions are so large that you want to leave room available for their deliciously seasoned mashed potatoes and other sides. Cons: the desserts are not homemade and store-bought. Wolfgangs has been on my list forever, and I finally went for dinner. My boyfriend and I shared: + Caesar salad + Ribeye steak + Mashed potatoes + Creamed spinach + Apple strudel The steak was awesome, and everything else was super tasty for the most part (the salad wasn't super memorable). I was excited to try this original location and decided to dine in for the first day of my trip. I arrived at the restaurant on time, but I was told there was no reservation and they assumed I had booked the wrong location. I showed them the reservation confirmation, and they seated us, but I felt it was not welcoming. The host was drinking coffee to go, which seemed unprofessional, and I was surprised by the level of service since I had high expectations. Our server was friendly and attentive, but when the food was brought to the table. Additionally, when they cleared the table, they placed the steak knife facing outward, and I was accidentally cut when they bussed the table. Wolfgang's will always be good is the tldr. Is there anything special about the food at Wolfgang's? No. But is it good, and consistently? Yes. Is it fancy to new heights? No. But is it good enough to impress a general audience, and is it reliable? Yes. That's what Wolfgang's is, and does so well. It is a nicer steakhouse that does everything consistently right. And best of all, they have many locations, and can accommodate large crowds with no problems. It's no surprise that they are a prime location for the finance crowd, as it's the perfect place to bring all your coworkers and flex on them...and have a good time of course. In terms of pricing, there is a lot of food for the price you pay. $70 might sound like a hefty price for steak, except it feeds around 2.5 average people. The secret behind this is that their steak is drenched in butter. Good? Yes good tasting, but not good for your health. It's Wolfgang's, it's a good time to leave your doctor on read. For wines, the list is huge, but somehow lacking in a lot of places. The trendy wines, you will find. The extremely expensive Petrus, DRC, Lafites...you will also find. But the area in the middle is a bit rough. There are quite a lot of overpriced $50-80 wines that go for almost $200. There are a few bargains you can find if you have a good cache wine prices. From my memory, the Shafer was only 2x markup, and a while back the Stag's Leap FAY 2006 was only selling at $220 at the restaurant, which to me is at least $150 a bottle retail so...that's quite good. When they serve you, they do so professionally, and almost swarm you to get hot steak fresh on your plate. It's a joy to watch, and highly coordinated. So in conclusion, is Wolfgang's the place to be? Given a crowd and a bigger than normal wallet, yes. It's kinda like a casual joint if it were $$$, if that makes sense. read more

Great restaurant. Steak was phenomenal. The Schlage was unreal with the chocolate moose, cheesecake and I think apple fritter dessert. Service was top notch and we were well taken care of. It is a loud restaurant though. As long as you are aware of that then it shouldn't detract from your experience. It's nice to see everyone enjoying themselves having lively conversations. We went on a Wednesday and it was jam packed. My husband and I were going to a show in the area so we decided to have dinner at Wolfgang's. Not thrilled with the service...especially with the older gentleman who served us our food. I didnt care for the way he told me to move my wristlet, instead of politely asking. Everyone seemed more interested in helping the table of 20 that was going to come in. I would give 5 stars to Mike who was so polite and friendly. Food was just ok. Caesar salad was fine. Creamed spinach was not great. What an absolutely wonderful experience. I had been wanting to check out the old subway station turned steakhouse for quite some time; like my boy Bill S said down below, the ceilings are super low, but he failed to mention that they are done in a magnificent tile by Rafael Guastavino and the architecture is truly stunning. It's a one of a kind sight to see here in NYC All that magic aside, Wolfgang was head waiter at Peter Lugers where he learned, perfected, and I'd say improved upon the craft. The staff is great at Wolfgangs and the porterhouse for two came sizzling hot, cooked to perfection and sliced proper table-side; naturally we got that shrimp cocktail and potatoes- all were awesome. The shrimp are gigantic The potatoes were creamy And the steak was delectable I seriously enjoyed the meal and the noise level did not bother me one bit. My daughter and I came here on a Wednesday for our last dinner in NYC. I figured who does steakhouses best? NYC. We made a reservation for 6:30pm, but we got there around 6:10. We were a bit early, so I figured they would have us wait; however, I was pleasantly surprised when we were seated right away, no problem. Here, I am all happy about our initial treatment and prompt service until we are dumped in the far corner of the restaurant. It had very little lighting. I thought, since there's only 2 of us perhaps, that's why? We were greeted by the server and was handed a menu. He was professional but lacked the warmth of customer service. He was short, and he was always rushed. Mind you, when we were sitting down, there were plenty of empty tables. The place was not busy yet. He assumed we wanted flat water? Cause he said flat water, and as he walked away, I said no, I want sparkling water. He got the message of "maybe I should do my job." He came back and actually took our drink orders. This was already a 2nd red flag to me. For appetizers, my daughter and I ordered Canadian Bacon and Crab Cake. Let me tell ya! That bacon was so good. I've never had bacon that was crunchy and buttery at the same time. I love the smoky flavor of the bacon and the chewyness of the fat. The crab cake was delicious as well. They did not skimp on the crab meat, you can taste the quality of the crab (I'm from MD, so we know a thing or 2 when it comes to crabs) being from MD even my daughter said, that was the best crab cake she's ever had. Love the tar-tar sauce, it add3d the creamy, zingyness to the buttery and fatty crab cake. For our main, we had ordered Porterhouse for 2 and a side of cream of spinach and German potatoes. We had requested a medium rare, and we got exactly that. The steak had a nice sear that had a crusty bite on the outside, yet it retained the buttery chewyness of medium rare inside. He ran the steak on the plate (which was still hot) that cooked the steak slightly, but not too much that it became medium. They do their steaks well, and since this is our first steakhouse experience in NY, we were blown away with the quality of the meat and its presentation. I'm from the DC area, and we can definitely learn a thing or 2 when it comes to good steaks. Unfortunately, the service just went downhill from here. We were not asked how our meal was and had no pleasantries. We did get asked if we were done 2x by 2 different people. The table next to us, 2 businessmen with suits on did get asked how their meal was and if they need anything else. Wouldn't it be nice to get the same service? We had to tell our waiter that we wanted desserts. How am I telling you how to do your job? I know I may not look like your typical customer, but I can guarantee you I paid the exact same amount for that porterhouse as those 2 businessmen. In fact, I ordered more than they did plus dessert! Disappointing for a steakhouse Anytime you are going to a steakhouse you expect the service to be top notch. Sadly this is where Wolfgang's falls short. We ordered two martinis one with gin and no vermouth and one with vodka and vermouth. Both obviously had vermouth in them, when we tried to point this out this is where the service went downhill. The waiter who didn't make our martinis insisted there was no vermouth and wouldn't hear a word otherwise. We tried to insist and he just rolled his eyes and walked away. The bread was good- a bit cold along with the butter Steak was good! We split the porterhouse and the filet was amazing, sadly the strip was a little tough! FOOD: Lobster cocktail - Presentation is showy and not worth the space is takes up. Lobster was good though. Soup of the Day - I believe it was Lobster Bisque which was phenomenal. Paired perfectly with the complimentary bread. Ribeye - We shared a ribeye and they are nice enough to split it ahead of time. Ribeye was cooked to absolute perfection. I recommend trying it out with the old fashioned sauce but it's honestly so good on it's own. Mashed Potatoes - Super creamy and soft. It doesn't come with a gravy but they do provide you one if you ask! SERVICE: Our server was amazing. Super attentive and friendly! VIBE: They basically packed as many tables as they possibly could. I was in town for a whirlwind work trip and time with a fantastic woman in Manhattan. My quintessential New Yorker dinner date chose one of her favorite restaurants for dinner, Wolfgang's. I knew to trust her since the moment I arrived in town, and Wolfgang's demonstrated her spot-on again. On a crowded Saturday night, we were seated immediately despite few open tables. Customer service and guests not seated were wearing masks. Hand sanitizer was available. Before noticing what was on dinner tables, I noticed incredible architecture and decor. Wow. You could close your eyes and sense 1940s, 50s and 60s movers and shakers, upscale dinner dates and family birthdays. Sure enough...as we were gracefully guided to our table by the maitre d, we saw exactly those groups, 2021 Style with the same level of spirit and class as we would have witnessed 70 years ago. We were seated in the corner diagonal from the maitre d station, with a great view of the main dining room. From people watching to admiring detailed tiles, woodwork and architectural lines, and observing graceful, swift, handsome, polite staff, I would have been satisfied without even eating! What an experience. Quickly, our server took drink orders and delivered fresh bread. We didn't need the nosh because our traditional dinner was going to kill us. I headed to the men's room around corners and downstairs, through the building's viscera. You couldn't help to notice the history of the building, photos, architecture, and textures. To boot, everything was so clean, including the men's room. I returned to the table to find my dinner date filling up on nosh, fresh regular and onion rolls, pure carbs, despite being the expert and knowing what was to come. She goaded me, and it was indeed good, but, having already scoped out the dining room and seeing other tables fares, I knew better. We split a salad and, at her recommendation, a slab of bacon. I had no idea what to expect or why she ordered it, but when it arrived, my eyes popped. No kidding, this was a slab. You could kill someone with it like a rubber hose filled with lead shot. The bacon was thicker than the sole of a Doc Marten's, but the preparation and saltiness made it certainly more pliable. It was quite good and more than enough for two of us. Our salad was a classic steakhouse salad, fresh, crispy, flavorful lettuce, pure roughage to clean out the bacon's cholesterol. Along the way, servers politely checked in. Then, as if our eyes and bellies were not at 50% capacity by now, dinner arrived. Our server delivered a family-style serving of hash browns. Crispy with a bit of grease on the rim of the plate, I was told it is a classic side at Wolfgang's. I exoected them to be a bit salty, they were not. They were certainly good but not something to send letters home about. Then, out of the corner of my eye I noticed a server bringing our porterhouse steak for two. With that first glimpse and love at first sight, I imagined classical music, and as the porterhouse got closer and I noticed its brontosaurus size and imagined The Flintstones trailer and music when Fred and Wilma go through the drive-thru and the gargantuan steak is thrown on top of their car... wait, those were ribs. It was when she served Fred the steak! So rarely do steakhouses get temperature exactly on the spot so it arrives to your table at the right temperature, because it's still cooking internally from the time it's taken off the grill or out of the broiler until you cut into it. Wolfgang's got our medium rare just right. In fact, I think my lovely dinner date ask for medium rare-plus (say whaaaat? Such a New Yorker!) and that's how it arrived. We immediately cut into it -- tender, lovely on the outside in its charry edge, and supple pink and juicy on the inside, and flavor profiles to match those visual descriptors. The Manhattanite knew to ask for Wolfgang's special sauce, and it was good. The truth is, the porterhouse was so delicious that it didn't need a thing. At this point, it was a matter of whether we could polish this brontosaurus off in one sitting. We couldn't, and I blame the dinner bread and my with-age-comes-wisdom sensibility that I cannot comfortably eat as much as I used to when I was in my twenties. The beef made a lovely meal in the next few days. Not one to shy away from dessert, despite my dinnerdate's hesitancy, I asked our server of the fare. Choices were not inspired, but rather traditional steakhouse options and adequate to satiate my traditional need to close the meal. Interestingly enough, we were not presented recommendations of digestifs, and I would have fancied a glass of something. I chose the key lime pie, looking for something sprite, and it was good but could have been more tart and more Florida Sunshine inspired. I came here for a work lunch with some coworkers, and it was a fun experience! Quintessential NYC steakhouse vibes. The bread basket they give you upon being seated is great, and the staff was all very nice and personable. We shared the porterhouse for the table along with the Ahi Tuna, the Brussels sprouts, the mashed potatoes, the creamed spinach, and the lobster Mac n cheese. I honestly wasn't wow-ed by anything other than the steak and the tuna. Surprisingly the creamed spinach was my favorite of the sides. The lobster Mac tasted pretty fishy to me, which I didn't love. The mashed potatoes were nothing to write home about, and the Brussels were decent. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the Ahi melted in my mouth. I would have liked it to be a little softer. And definitely add more garlic, some butter and a touch of salt. German potatoes 7/10. This is a good steakhouse. I was hoping for great. The service was fantastic....definitely well-trained or experienced servers. The pacing of the meal was also fantastic. Many places rush the meal, but they did not. And the meat was perfectly cooked. BUT we were not impressed by the quality of the steaks. We were four, and all agreed that the steaks were "pretty good," but not worth the price tag. One of my favorite steakhouses in NYC. I have been to many of the other locations but this year I decided to try out the Park Ave spot with my fiancé. As always it did not disappoint. Many of you may already know Wolfgang Zwiener learned his craft as the head waiter of the infamous Peter Luger's in Brooklyn. I honestly think the steak and service here is much better than Peter Luger's. We ordered the tuna tartare and crab cakes to start followed by porterhouse for 2 with brussels sprouts and German potato as sides, and creme brûlée for dessert. Everything was cooked to perfection. The steak was buttery with slight hint of saltiness - yum yum! We were stuffed and had a to go bag as you can imagine. My only grievance was that the place was operating at full capacity - it did not feel like a dining experience during a pandemic even though all staff wore masks. read more

I went to the location on 41st street on Valentine's Day. The place was crowded and we had to wait a few minutes for our reservation. Each lady was give a long stemmed rose. The wait staff were very attentive. Two of us got the filet mignon and two the sirloin. We ordered mashed potatoes but they ran out so substituted the German potatoes. This was something I wouldn't have ordered but I am glad of the mix up because they were so flavorful. The steaks were all done to perfection. I'm usually a big salt user and these steaks didn't need any, they were seasoned perfectly. I will definitely try it again but not on a holiday. Man I've had a lot of steaks in my life but NOTHING quite like this! This steak (Bone in Ribeye) was truly the best steak I've ever had in my life! And I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating but I am not! After you read this I want you to go there, have a steak, come back to this post and say... brother man you were not exaggerating! First time at a Wolfgang's, happy it was in NYC, walked in on time for a party of five and sat down immediately, the place was packed and the ambiance was booming. The food was out of bounds, I've never ordered a sirloin before and figured if it was on the menu it had to be legit, good thing I was right, stupid good! Came here for my birthday! We had reservations and were seated right away. The seating was super tight not gonna lie, but it was also very packed and loud in the restaurant so keep that in mind if you're coming to have a deep talk with someone lol. Our waiter honestly came off as cold and I felt rushed when interacting, but perhaps it was a stressful night because of how busy it was in the restaurant. It was a little disappointing compared to service I've gotten at other steakhouses, but I understand we are all human. Now the food. I was really impressed by the char and juiciness of the steak. The sides were also delicious and my drink was nice and strong so I only needed one lol. I definitely felt like this was better than Peter Luger in terms of taste and quality. Wolfgang's has that classic steakhouse vibe that I really like. It's on the louder side at this location, which can get annoying, but it's never bothered me too much. Lots of business and finance bros, I think. The servers are usually nice (note: usually, not always). My favorite thing is the filet. Super good! They have good espresso martinis as well, and a pretty decent wine list. read more

Extremely pleased with my experience here last night. Came here for a work dinner, and the entire group said it was one of the best steaks ever. Service was good -- didn't stand out as amazing or subpar. The focus of this review is the food. Steak portion was very generous. More steak pieces than Peter Luger. Porterhouse was tender and cooked perfectly medium-rare. Seasoned well with probably just salt (all you need), and service was quick. Sides were also very good; I recommend the onion rings, creamed spinach and sautéed broccoli. I had been to the Tribeca location roughly 7 years ago and don't remember the experience standing out the way it did last night. With that said I will definitely go back to this location on Park Avenue. This restaurant has moved up in my rankings and is arguably better or just as good as Peter Luger or Striphouse. read more

Delicious steak, beautiful dining area, and strong drinks! Went for a work lunch 12:00 on a Tuesday and it was packed. Pretty loud due to all the people, and felt a bit rushed by the wait staff, but I enjoyed the lunch. Delicious seafood appetizer, and their steak sauce was amazing.
