Great location, great ambiance, wished the food matched the experience. I had the Nashville hot chicken which extremely underwhelming. Imagine red oil that looks like hot spicy magical goodness but....tasted like red oil. Chicken wasn't overly crispy, the seasoning was so far off the mark if I closed my eyes, I'd imagine just eating oily fried chicken, and all in all, really don't see what the fuss is about. The food was good. Not the best we've ever had and not the worst. The giant Bavarian Pretzel appetizer was very good however and the horseradish mustard was some of the best we've had. It came with a beer cheese sauce that was just okay. Our waitress was polite but we had to call her over for drink refills as she never stopped by to check on the status of our glasses. The thing that Yard House has going for it is the atmosphere. Great classic rock music and energy from all the patrons. Overall the restaurant was clean and a the food was worth its price. I came here on a Friday night and it wasn't packed. Our waitress, Chayla, was super friendly and sweet. We all started off ordering drinks. My friend ordered a sangria and when she was about to take a sip from it, she noticed there was a piece of hair. So gross! She let Chayla know who was sweet enough to replace it however that should've not happened. Also, I think the drink should've been on the house. We also ordered chicken nachos and they were okay. They were cold and I think I saw only a few pieces of chicken on them, which was a huge disappointment. After not the hair in the drink and cold appetizer, we decided to go elsewhere for dinner. Visited on a very busy Friday night, and we were seated at a high top table. The beer menu selection is vast and amazing, with every kind of beer that you could think of. My girlfriend and I ordered the pretzel with beer cheese to start and it was so much larger than I though it was going to be. It came with beer cheese and a fantastic mustard to dip in. The Caesar salad was one of the best I've had, and the burger I had was cooked to perfection. They have those displays on the table which allow you to pay for your meal without flagging down your server, which in my opinion is the way to go as it saves so much time. Beautiful day in Houston means one should take advantage of patio season. Ok, the good: hostess quoted 15 minute wait, our table was ready in 10. That's it. We were seated at 4:20pm. At 5pm, we had managed to get 1 of the 2 beers we ordered after talking to 3 different waiters. In an industry where service is everything, this place leaves you wanting more. We were told shift change was to blame. If your shift change impedes you from providing at least decent service, you need to relook at the process. If you want to get a beer in the first 30 minutes that you're seated, go somewhere else. read more

Good upscale bar style restaurant in City Center, they have good pizzas and appetizers like the fried cheese curds. It is a little bit expensive for no reason as nothing really stands out in terms of super star dishes. The beer selection is amazing and the drinks are really good. Due to covid they serve a condensed menu but a well stocked drink menu. Give them a try if you are in the mood for an upscale sports bar, don't try any of the Asian inspired dishes, they aren't authentic. Stick to the burgers, pizzas, fried chicken and appetizers to avoid any busts. read more

If I was to describe the Yard House in one sentence it would be something like this: Upscale sports bar with lots of beer and food choices. I think that sums it up. Yard house has some great deals for happy hours (3-6) or reverse happy hours (9-11:30). Food menu is very extensive and has variety of food choices, from classic American burgers to pizza, to Asian etc. Beer choices are just fantastic, and do not forget to ask for the complimentary beer samples. Walked in. Friendly staff. Got a table. Waitress introduced the small device that now helps communicate with the wait staff easier. They have a pretty diverse menu. They have vegan options, which was great when I was a vegan. Now that I'm just eating healthy in general, it was difficult to find something under 500 calories that would be filling. I ended up ordering the blackened shrimp taco. It has a slaw of pineapple on top. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the tortilla was warm. Sorry I didn't take a photo but the taco fits in a single hand, so it's pretty small. It was 170 calories. It filled me since I had a pretty big lunch but typically, 2 probably would be ideal. They are pretty small, close to street size tacos but a liiiiitle larger. It was $7 dollars. I will say.... I didn't order the chicken nachos but that appetizer was AMAZING a few years ago. I'm hoping they haven't changed it but I didn't try it this time. It's probably my second favorite nacho plate. The last time we ordered it, we ordered it 3 of them...... For 3 people. We did some damage. I recommend the nachos. I didn't give the last two stars stars bc 1) not many healthy options I wouldn't feel guilty eating 2) pricey 3) wasn't the best shrimp taco I've had. Nobody liked their meal. The manager tried to make up for and replaced the fish, but the replacement was bad too. When ordering, the waitress asked if we wanted a 1/2 order of the lobster mac and we said "yes" but when the bill came the full price of $25 was there. When I asked about it she said "oh we don't have 1/2 orders." Wish she would have told us! It tasted like mac & cream not mac & cheese. No flavor. Boring! The beer was expensive $8. Located in the bustling confines of city center, Yard House is one of the most happening restaurants no matter when you decide to drop in. Their menu has a lot to offer both food and drinks wise. While parking can be a hassle, it isn't any worse than many other places around town. The ambience is muted "mood lighting" with a Texas touch. The staff are usually friendly but always distracted. In fact, the staff are the major reason I hesitate to eat here more often. Recently, we went to Yard House in between the traditional lunch and dinner times. It was busy but not nearly as busy as I have seen it in the past. We still had to wait forever to have our orders taken, our appetizer was forgotten and we had to inquire about it and then it came out almost simultaneously with the meals. The food itself was good overall. We had tne brussel sprouts and roasted potatoes to start and they were okay. The roast beef dip sandwich was a basic sandwich. I had French onion soup on the side and don't recommend it. The side salad someone else ordered was good. The spicy chicken plate was huge and tasty. However, it then took an eternity for our check to be made and paid. The waitress never came to ask how our food was or anything. Overall, this place had so much potential but I just don't see it growing. In any case, if you're just after some good ole American style food, this place is okay. I'm not a beer drinker so I tried out the ciders. My favorite one was the "Austin Eastciders Honey" and that was really smoothe. I also tried the "Pineapple" from the same company and that didn't taste like pineapple at all. lol. The chicken nachos were very good and large, you could split it between two to four people which was very convenient. The chicken was very tender and juicy and props for using real tortilla chips. It kind of weirded me out that it's considered a family restaurant because i thought it was a brewery? But we went on a Saturday around 4-5pm and the outside was the only area that was somewhat busy. It's easy to get disoriented in Houston. I was a resident in the early 1980s and consider myself fortunate that I've succeeded in not transferring back, and only needing to visit occasionally. Think of the Bayou City as a big blob, with little zoning, a lot of traffic, but with at least a few islands of sanity. One case in point was a recent business trip, where my residence for the week was Houston City Center (which is actually located on I-10 well outside of where you might think). Next to the Hotel Sorella was the Yard House, which welcomed me out of the Houston wilderness (and this fake downtown) with a wide selection of beer, a large selection of decent food, and fellowship with my fellow Corporate travelers. I visited twice during my stay. I'm sure that the beer snob in me could a more authentic gastropub experience, but I was happy I didn't have to hop in the car and drive miles to try to find one. (I'm eating low carb right now, and it's nice having a place where I can easily find delicious food that fits in with my diet.)
