Daikon cake w/ frued egg, beef roll, and the famous rice roll
Sary O.

This place is so good. Its my first time having a rice roll and it was burst with flavors. Rice roll 9/10 I got it with (Extra crispy Chinese donuts, eggs, pork floss, sour pickles, pickled daikon, korean sausage) I also got beef rice roll - 8/10 and daikon cake with fried eggs -The best daikon cake I've had! Solid 10/10. They even have daikon cake in the fridge for you to take home. Since I live almost 2 hours away, I had to buy 2 to take home. Can't wait to go back!

i'm happy taiwanese fan tuan is blowing up lol. i actually had never tried their fan tuan before bc every time I came here I was here for the juicy dumplings. The one that is steamed but also pan fried if you haven't tried it you must it's so good!! their fan tuan is very flavorful and not filed with jus rice! i added pickled mustard (must have), egg, and marinated pork as extra.def will return but will try the white rice one and see which one i like better as i usually do like the white rice ones more.

With the fan tuan going viral, I did decided to stop by to give it a try as well (not pictured), as well as ordering a pork chop rice. It's interesting how it's going viral, but I'm glad that it is. Fan tuan has spent one of my all-time favourite foods growing up, mostly because it is very carby, but also the Chinese donut and pork floss. It is a heavy item but definitely worth a try if you're hungry. The Chinese donut in the middle is crunchy and these pork floss gives it a perfect salty and savory combination. The pork chop rice is standard, but but that's a good thing. Crispy pork chop, marinated egg, vegetables on a bit of rice. What more could you ask for. If you're looking for a relatively quick meal, and has a hankering for Taiwanese food, you found a place. Make sure to order a soy milk to wash it all down. Interior is clean and services fast and friendly. Surface level parking is a bit limited, but they have underground parking shared with other stores nearby.

Salty soymilk. My happy place.

It was our first time at this location and we really liked it! It's spacious, clean, bright, convenient self ordering by scanning a QR code at the table, quick service, and yummy food! The daikon cake was fried so perfectly! Highly recommend! We dined in on a Wednesday and it happened to be Daikon Special day of $3.75. Woohoo!

Was craving Taiwanese food and found this place for a quick breakfast. Ordering food is a different process compared to other places. You find a seat/ table and you scan the menu and order from there and pay on the app. It's pretty much self service which is a good thing. Along with getting the condiments and water which are posted at the center service station with all the sauces. Ordered the chicken bowl and added sausage 4/5, get this is you're hungry. Popcorn chicken 4/5, good spice and kick to it. Sticky rice roll with Chinese donut 4/5, gonna have to try the black rice version next time. Sitting at some tables can be communal as you're sitting next to someone else.

Food was good. Soy was not extra ordinary but clean and tastes like soy. Beef soup was not comparable to Lao Xi or Din Tai. Portion was good. Price point was moderately ok. Taste was really good for those rice rolls. Staff taking order were nice but they are pretty staffed so I don't understand the lag. Person who delivered our food was sweet but she couldn't answer questions.

Parking lot structure available Came on a Sunday for lunch and had to wait about 30 mins for a table. It's pretty much self service. You scan the QR code to order your food from the menu. There's a counter for self serve water and sauces, utensils etc. We tried a few different things on the menu but I think their best item is just the popular fan tuan! I love how crispy the donut is and you can add extra toppings like with an egg, sausage etc.

One of our favorite places for Taiwanese breakfast, Yi Mei should be on people's must try list. I love coming here for their fantuan which are reasonably priced and so hearty! When you head to the location you may see a long line. Don't be deterred! A majority of the patrons are there for take out. For sit down, you will order and pay first and seat yourself. Everything is priced reasonably and large portions that you'd definitely get your bang for your buck. For this visit we ordered (of course) the salty fantuan which includes egg, pork floss, Chinese donut and we added in a Chinese sausage which is more on the salty side than sweet. We also got a sausage and meat plate, an egg pancake and of course their savory soy bean milk. Everything came out quickly and tasted amazing. Definitely try out this location if you're looking for delicious food and at a great price!

Quaint Taiwanese breakfast spot located in the heart of SGV. I did find this spot through social media because of the viral salty rice roll (fan tuan), but they have a variety of other breakfast options offered ad well. I tried the fan tuan with a chinese donut and fried egg added as extra (already comes with sausage and pork floss), plus a bowl of hot soy milk - unsweetened and a chinese donut to pair with. I personally would give the food a 3.7/5, as the fan tuan is good but there is a bit of flavor lacking. However, if you add either the garlic sauce or chili oil that is offered at the self serve station, it would kick up the rating to 4.2/5. The service is quick and the staff are constantly on the go, but are quick to come to your service at a moment's call.

The extra crispy youtiao makes it special. Don't forget to ask for sauce. Variety of Taiwanese breakfast looks good. Came by on a weekend afternoon and there was a lot of people waiting. The signs said that ordering online might be faster, but afterward we felt like dining in would be ok. We ordered pickup through the QR code at the restaurant and were given a 20 minute wait time without about 6 parties hanging out outside. We walked a few blocks away and saw one of our favorite fantuan places with no wait nearby! We ordered a savory purple rice fantuan with extra crispy donut and an added egg. The extra crispy was something--my partner liked it and I could have done with a regular youtiao. The flavor of the whole thing was good but nothing amazing and balance of ingredients was a bit off. The purple rice fell apart easily. We got an egg omelette which my partner really liked, and a cold soymilk which was slightly sweet and refreshing. We regret forgetting the sauce. Our friends hyped it up to us after. There's an extensive menu beyond fantuan, which includes porridge, rice plates, and soups. Seems like a good place to come to for comfort food.

Like many others here, I had to stop by to try the purple rice roll. The portion is pretty hefty so I would recommend sharing if you're looking to try other dishes. The roll can be ordered sweet or savory, and I would recommend adding protein. The beef roll is flavorful but slightly watery, so it was a bit messy to eat. My absolute fave order has to be the freshly made soy milk! Prices are extremely affordable. I can't wait to come back to try other dishes.

I really wanted to like this place. Where to start? Maybe the positive parts. Ordered via QR code to go. Email said ready in 25 mins. That's was insanely accurate. Parking was not bad. Although I think someone hit my car...if you're reading this...You suck. The food was fresh. But the portion small..this is the day before where they posted they were closed due to lack of ingredients. The customer service is ok leaning more towards improvement. I understand it's not your fault social media blew you guys up. But at the same time in the era that we live in it should be expected. I was told by the front that if you order online just give your name for the order. Now the cons. The left out one of my orders. Pig ears. I called 3 times. No answer. On the fourth call a man picked up and said he couldn't believe they left it out. He wanted me to come back but I was already home...he promised a refund and he was good on his word. I factored this in with my rating. I ordered: 2 beef noodle soups - $14.75 each 1 Mince pork rice $12 FanTuan - $8.25 (extra pickle radish/purple rice) 2 large sweet soy milk - $4.25 each 1 salty soy milk small - $4.75 1 Chinese donut - $3.75 Missing pig ears / $7 Total with tax was $80.15 The food was mid. I'm sorry. It was most likely the influx from social media. The portion are small compared to other taiwanese spots. I feel so bad straying away from my usual spot (which I won't mention). I took a picture comparison of my fan Tuan you can judge yourself... The sweet soy milk was good. Overall I won't be back.

Was so excited to try this spot! You sit down, order, and pay via your table's QR code, which makes things super easy. I got the cold soy milk, which was so delicious and refreshing, as well as the pork chop rice plate. The rice plate was yummy and comforting - I loved the minced pork on the rice as well and the marinated cucumbers and veggies were a great addition. I shared the spicy wonton but it ended up being overly salty and spicy which really overshadowed the wonton flavor itself. They were also unfortunately out of the popular beef roll when we arrived (around 2pm). Service is about average but the prices are quite reasonable, and as a lover of Taiwanese food, I know I'll definitely find my way back! Parking in the plaza or underground.

The popcorn chicken is a must - the portion was huge and the mild flavor was top notch. The beef noodle soup was also solid. It came with a generous amount of noodles and big chunks of flavorful beef. Lastly, the regular soup dumplings pass exceptionally well with the ginger, vinegar, soy sauce condiment. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. Atmosphere inside was hip and vibey. Overall, this is a great restaurant and I'd highly recommend others to try their dishes.

Crab/pork soup dumplings: I still prefer the pork version but same good quality as above Beef rolls - Good portion of meat and balanced flavor with the outside very crispy for nice texture balance. Wish they had cucumber inside though. Popcorn chicken - ordered it with no spice but chili powder on the side. I enjoyed this very much! Light, crispy and flavorful. Bonus for coming with fried basil, which is harder to come by. Beef/tendon noodle soup - bouncy noodles and good tendon but the flavor was not rich. Spicy beef noodle soup (2 chilis on the menu) - Better than the one above but definitely sweat inducing. Pan fried bao: Decent option, but I prefer the ones at Shau May hands down.

The dish came with sauteed cabbage, half a tea egg, sauteed corn/peas/carrot mix and a bean curd. Portion was large and I was able to eat half for another meal! My friend got the chicken chop rice and the portion was even bigger than the pork chop rice! I will come back to try that one. Our group also ordered the popcorn chicken and that was juicy as well. Your ex's Taiwanese uncle was the angel investor that jump started Jerry Yang's Yahoo.com. Your other friend's uncle was the VP to Terry Gou founder of Hon Hai Precision's (the company that makes all the iPhones), your friend's dad was locked up in Taiwan because he was the head of the United Bamboo Triads. Every Taiwanese person in LA and the West Coast probably had a 2 degree of separation with everyone else. And so like the Italians, you needed family restaurants to congregate at, and Aghoo precisely is that type of restaurant where Taiwanese Boomers and their children go sit down and have comfort food. This is a school of cooking that many chefs from Mainland China simply cannot replicate today. And there were only a few restaurants in Los Angeles 30 years ago capable of doing it: Happy Family Garden Pacific Plaza 新園餐館, Dumpling King 老夫子 Hacienda Heights Vons Plaza, Sin Bala 新芭樂 Arcadia, and Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐 Arcadia Location One. That being said, I've always wanted to go back to Taiwan and apprentice under an old school chef and learn this school of stir-fry, you know, carry on the torch. In Taiwan, you used to be able to go to a street stall and order 100 different types of stir fry for dirt cheap, and so the chefs that had the grit to do it became masters at stir fry, authentic green onion beef not that fake Mongolian Beef created for the American Audience...although I equally like the American version. So yes, it was a sigh of relief when I discovered Aghoo. One of the remnants of a lost art form in the diverse world of cuisine. It was survival for the Boomer generation to stand next to a wok all day, to support the business and to support the family. Unlike Italian food, you can't premake Lasagna, Meatballs, marinara sauce and just assemble everything last minute with fresh cooked pasta. No, Taiwanese stir fry is bittersweet hard labor....very mechanical in nature, and the chef needs to understand all the inputs. So these days, Jurassic Restaurant has closed, Uncle Yu's 印第安啤酒屋 had shut down. Leaving.....Aghoos? And yes, Eat Joy in Rowland Heights. Come to think about it, if you take out Din Tai Fung from the picture, these are the last of the Mohicans..... I'll end here with my walk down memory lane. You want the Taiwanese version of that Italian style Family sit down restaurant, this is it. This is where you will find all the Taiwanese Aunties and Uncles that probably own 10,000 shares of TSMC, 30,000 shares of NVDA, and Jensen Huang eating quietly in the corner.

Of course, it was the first thing that arrived, so we each voraciously ate a wedge on its own. Fish Filet with Bean Sauce: If you have enough self control, wait until they bring out the fish. The sauce is thick and savory. There's so much flavor from the minced garlic, fermented black beans, and scallions. The silky sauce seem to find a way into all the nooks and crannies of the stellar bread. Fried Red Yeast Pork Belly: The cooking technique of this dish is pretty cool. This is like a crispy char siu. The rich pork belly is marinated in red yeast rice wine for its aromatic flavor. It is coated in tapioca flour and then fried. The edges are crispy and kind of chewy while the meat is juicy and tender. Tofu Skin, Soy Beans, and Mustard Greens: The super thin tofu sheets and soy beans are a Shanghainese classic. With finely chopped mustard greens, the dish is a delightful study of textures: crunchy greens, chewy soy beans, and snappy from the tofu skin. The flavor is neutral and nourishing. Parking: It looks like there are only street parking spots, which there are plenty of. But, they have a lot in the back accessible through the alley by Alessandro Avenue.

There used to be several locations across Southern California, and I'm glad the Arcadia location is still here. Every visit brings back memories. I come for the Taiwanese classics that are becoming harder to find. The popcorn chicken is still one of my favorites--crispy, fragrant, and seasoned the way Taiwanese street vendors do it. The Taiwanese meatball soup is comforting, and the Taiwanese sausage always reminds me of night markets back home. What I appreciate most is that SinBala doesn't just serve street food. It brings those familiar flavors into a warm, home-style setting. It's nostalgic without trying too hard. Before you leave, save room for dessert. Their shaved ice is a must. I always recommend the brown sugar shaved ice topped with five mochi or boba. It's refreshing, not overly sweet, and the perfect ending to a meal. Taiwanese food is often overshadowed by other regional Chinese cuisines, but places like SinBala remind me how unique it really is. Simple, comforting, and full of character.
