I'm basing my review with more of a "foreigner" mentality :) My out of town Asian foodie friend found this place on Yelp and she wanted to give it a try. I'm willing to try anything so I was in! We came in on Saturday before noon and it was decently crowded, but we were able to get seated right away. I let her do all of the ordering, and here's what we ended up with: - warm soy milk from a bowl - not my thing but maybe to soy milk lovers, this is probably good? My friend added a bit of sugar, but it's not a sweetened drink. I had cold milk tea instead, which I enjoyed better - Fan Tuan purple roll - this was okay, honestly wasn't all that special. It reminded me of sushi burrito with a bit of crunchy in the middle. I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it. - Daikon pastry - nice little appetizer, I liked the favors and the fluffiness. Would've preferred it a little warmer. - Beef sandwich - this was probably my favorite. Good favors, decent size, I'd eat this again. -Oyster pancake - I just wasn't into this at all. Maybe it's supposed to taste this way, but I didn't like the sweetness of the sauce. I didn't quite like the idea of having oyster in a pancake. I was in the area and was craving Taiwanese breakfast. Yi Mei came up for me, so I decided to give it a try. There is plenty of parking in the lot (but also street parking if the plaza is busy). I ordered at the front and they gave me a number. I really like the restaurant, it was clean and spacious. The food also came out pretty quickly. I tried the fried donut, rice roll, Chinese pancake and daikon radish cake. All were pretty tasty although I thought the pancake lacked a little flavor, which was ok because they had some sauces that I was able to use. Delicious overall. They also had some rice and noodle items, which I definitely want to try. The price was also fairly decent. It does get pretty busy here so I would try to avoid busy times because I saw how long the line was as I was leaving. My friend and I shared the purple rice roll with egg and it was delicious. The wait isn't too bad because you order quickly by QR code once seated. The water and sauces are all grab your own. Quite tasty, not too salty, but a sauce of choice could add to it. The green onion pancake was also so good. Don't wait too long to eat it, or it will get soggy. Order at the register right inside the door. Get your number, pick up your chopsticks and other utensils at another counter, and choose your seat. There are plenty of tables. Parking: shared lot and there is underground parking When you go in, it is a mix of a coffee shop and cafeteria vibe. There are some people working on computers and others eating with family. You find a seat and order using the QR code on the table. They do take orders up front at the entrance. This place provides a lot of customization at a cost. I thought it was strange to up charge for noodles in a beef noodle soup dish. Who order beef noodle soup without the noodles. Also I would not recommend getting it. The beef noodle soup was very much sour pickle forward. The fan tuan was disappointing. It was bland and the donut was over fried. I got it crispy but it was burnt. The rice was not seasoned well. Happy tree pastry is still my favorite place to get fan tuan. The peanut milk was not bad, just really weird they brought out a soup bowl with a laddle. There were no bowls or cups. I never leave reviews but I thought I need to share how overhyped this place is. I was interested in trying out their viral fan tuan with purple rice and all their add ons. I grew up eating fan tuan ok. Nothing to rave about. You can't trust social media nowadays sigh. The pork chop rice bento was not worth it. As soon as I opened the box, I could see most of the meat was bones - which it was! Sides were mediocre, cucumbers were old and over-marinated. Rice didn't taste fresh and was kind of mushy. None of the portions were abundant. Also very overpriced, the fan tuan + pork chop bento + small soymilk came out to $35. Yi Mei is a great Taiwanese breakfast spot with all the classic, traditional grubs you'd find in TW. The food here really took me back to reminence the TW breakfast days. Going from my most favorite to least preferred items, my family and I got the beef roll, salty rice roll, soy milk, chinese donut, and flatbread. The beef roll was 4.5/5 - perfectly cooked beef with delicate tendon. The seasoning and beef flavor carried through well, but the dish would've been better accentuated with a better wrap instead of a tortilla-like consistency. All to say, this was my favorite dish. The salty rice roll was a 4/5. The rice was cooked to perfection and all the individual rice grains were separated well, yet were held together still in a roll. This gave nice rice texture in having a drier, crisp outside and a juicier inside. When you bite into the inside, the textures of dry, flavorful meat floss along with crispy, fried chinese donut was a perfect contrast. The unsalted soy milk was a perfect 5/5 - tasted like homemade soymilk. Nothing to elaborate or comment on. Unfortunately, I don't recommend the chinese donut and flatbread at all. The donut by itself was too oily by itself. I would rate it a 2/5 by itself. The flat bread was definitely a 0/5 because I didn't like how it fell apart and was so dry outside. Yi Mei is a decent place to go for a Taiwanese breakfast. You walk on, you might get seated by the cashier on front, but other than that, everything is self searching. You may order through your smartphone, or you may also use a tablet in the front as you walk in. You sit on your table, scan the barcode and start ordering whatever you like on their menu. I enjoy eating their fantuan, which is a wrapped roll of rice with a fried egg, a youtheo (fried Chinese donut), dried pork floss, and whatever else you would like inside the fantuan. A note that the Chinese donut is not sweet... but it's delicious when you eat it with a fantuan or with porridge. Other stuff we've tried are the turnip cake, tea eggs, chicken and/ or pork steak with rice with preserved vegetables, minced pork with rice with preserved vegetables, and their soybean milk both warm and cold. Everything tastes good as the food here is flavorful as it's cooked fresh after ordering. These few food line items listed are usually our go-to order items. But imo, I prefer chicken over pork, and cold soybean milk over the hot one. Their beef noodles seems good as quite a few people ordered it. It just seems a bit too heavy for breakfast even though it's a soup order. But we plan to try it soon. Lol. I like Yi Mei for breakfast. It fulfills my Taiwanese food cravings every time. The unique rice rolls is what I went for, but I feel like they still need to tighten up when it comes to the quality of the I wanna call it a rice burrito but it's called a rice roll as soon as you start eating it, it falls apart, so they either need to put it in better wrapping so that it's held better or they need to find a way of rolling it a little bit tighter either way I was influenced by influencers from Instagram to come here cause they were talking about. Thoughts: Yi Mei is quite busy during lunch hours and I'm happy for them. Especially in this economy, business is hard to come by and the restaurant industry is the first to feel the impact of economic windfall. Parking: Their parking is convenient and shares the same building as a nearby residential area so don't be confused. Their parking is downstairs, you find a ramp to your left if you keep going into the parking lot. I haven't found an issue with parking when I go. There is also street parking as well if you're lucky. Food: Their rice roll filled with fried Chinese donut and pork floss is delicious and quite large. One is enough for a single person if you're also going to get another dish. I also got their egg pancake and radish cakes. Both were delicious and needed no sauce. Yi Mei is one of the earliest Taiwanese franchises to crossover the Pacific. My mom used to pick up dan bing (egg pancake) from the flagship location (now closed) all the time for me as a kid. I haven't been to an Yi Mei in decades, so decided to try it out again and get my fill of Taiwanese food. The original intention was to try a freshly-made dan bing, but I just couldn't bite the bullet for a price for $7. A single pancake roll! Bruh. I'll just stick to buying their frozen dan bing wrappers at 99 Ranch and continue making them at home. There's no way to justify that pricing. We settled for trying out their purple rice fan tuan instead (one reg for my husband and a veg for me), which were $6 each, and a cup of peanut milk. The ratio of rice to filling was totally off; it was basically just you tiao and rice. Barely any meat or veggie floss and pickled veggies. Really excited to try out this highly recommended and popular store. We focused on traditional Chinese breakfast as it's one of the few choices in town, and I think it's pretty decent. The service in the front was friendly and prompt but the service at the table and overall process can be improved. I really liked the salty rice roll, the baked breads were pretty good. The salty Oyster omelet was ok but not spectacular. Tip1. Double check the delivered items. We made a few additions, the counter lady happily added them but delivered items do not always matches our options. Tip 2: try to find a place to sit first, get the number on the table and use it to order with QR code or at the counter. The process is either you get a table, and order at the table, or you order at the counter, they give you an order number, you sit down and they deliver based on the order number. This process works well in general. The process breaks down when things are busy during weekends, since you find your own table, one time, it was frustrating to find/fight to get a table some times. Context: We came with a group of 7 on a Sunday for lunch. We arrived around 11:30am and were able to get seated right away! Stewed Pork Rice - 4/5 - The rice is soft and fluffy! The meat had a good amount of fattiness and decent flavor, but I would have liked for the meat to be even more flavorful. The cabbage and carrot were steamed well and weren't mushy, helping me feel at least a little bit healthy. The pickled cucumber was nicely sour to balance the fairness of the meat. Personally, I would have liked for the cucumber to be spicier but really liked them nonetheless. You can tell Yi Mei used to be a barbeque place, with all the vents above each table! We went on a weekend morning, the place was about halfway full. We did not have to wait. I really liked the turnip cake. It's not too oily and you can really taste the turnip. The rice roll was solid too. I like that the youtiao in it wasn't too hard and in my face while chewing. I had been wanting to try this place for a while ever since I saw a video on TikTok of the rice roll. I am very happy I waited since the hype had died down and the wait time was very minimal and there were plenty of open seats. We also shared everything. The food is plentiful for two and quite filling. Prices are very reasonable here for Taiwanese breakfast! Food was solid. They bring the food out pretty quickly. My favorites are the Taiwanese tamale, the beef noodle soup and the shrimp wonton noodle soup. Utensils and water are self serve, so we helped ourselves as we waited. They make their soy milk in house and it was delicious and refreshing. Let me preface by saying I really love taiwanese breakfast and have had lots of taiwanese breakfasts in Taiwan so my expectations are probably a bit higher than the average person. We decided to order the Fan Tuan (rice roll) with purple rice, it was okay - the rice was a little hard and the toppings didn't taste that fresh. The salted soymilk was lacking in flavor as well. The Taiwanese sausage rice was good though! We loved the daikon cake - it had a crispy exterior and soft interior, imagine radish cake but with a slightly softer texture! One of my favorite places to grab fan tuans (rice rolls) to-go! Growing up in the Bay Area, rice rolls (using white rice) were only offered on weekends, so I was definitely surprised to learn that Yi Mei sells different kinds of rice rolls on a daily basis. Ever since my first time here, I have been coming back whenever I'm craving Taiwanese breakfast! These rice rolls are massive AND delicious! Inside the rice rolls, you'll notice a crispy youtiao (fried chinese donut), pork floss, and some pickled vegetables. Since the rice roll is dry (no sauce inside), I'd recommend pairing it with Sweet Soy Milk. Hands down the perfect meal! When I eat this in the morning, I will tend to skip lunch because it is so filling. If you're on the fence and can't decide between the purple rice roll and the regular rice roll (using white rice), I'd recommend trying both! In my opinion, the purple rice roll has a chewier texture because it's more glutinous and dense. Will definitely come back in the future for a sit-down meal and try other breakfast items! read more

Everything is good!!! I was in Heaven. They have condos/apt above the restaurant and I am so jealous they get to come to this place whenever they want! They are famous for their Chinese breakfast. Their menu is super broad, but we ordered just about all my favorites. See pictures! Place was nice, clean, more modern then most restaurants like this, and fast. They have free water and a mini sauce station. My recos from what I got: Salty version of the Sweet rice roll Sweet or salty soy bean drink/soup. The salty one comes with a larger bowl option, I got that and took the rest home! Turnip cake was the best! We ordered three plates (it was too much) but you can tell how much we loved it. Others we loved: minced meat on white rice combo, fried chicken popcorn and pork chop taste the same, just choose based on the meat you like and cut. Can loose with either!
