3.5, but I'll round up. Pretty good. Not the best but a lot better than expected. Restaurant was clean but tables are a bit cramped. Service is fast and efficient but not exactly friendly. Bathroom is a little small and only has 2 stalls, but the restaurant itself is a bit small so I guess it shouldn't be an issue. Can't say the restroom is kept very clean, but it's not shocking. For these reasons, Yosuke gets the above mentioned deduction in rating Moving on to the positives: Deluxe Boat for two people comes with a wide variety of nigiri and sashimi and two pieces each. You get tuna, salmon, and yellow tail sashimi. For nigiri, you get tuna, salmon, yellow tail, shrimp, octopus, and red snapper. You also get a California roll. All were pleasant and none were offensive or fishy. Proportions were fair and cuts were generous. Rice was not dry. Karaage was fantastic. We ordered two plates. Not heavy or oily. Chicken was tender and flavorful. Mixed tempura was also good, though the batter was a bit thick. I'd order this again but only if I'm in the mood for something heavy. Sashimi salad was very nice. Greens were dark and fresh. Sashimi was clean and generously sliced. Dressing was light. Agedashi tofu was very good. Cooked well but not heavy or greasy. Broth wasn't too salty. Overall texture was nice and comforting. Halibut nigiri was great. Clear and clean. Scallop nigiri was good. Mackerel nigiri was also good. Green Tea and Red Bean ice creams were better than what I've had in other Japanese restaurants. On my way home, I thought about going to Mitsuwa and buying some more Red Bean ice cream because I enjoyed my scoop so much. Prices are reasonable and portions are larger than what one would expect. All in all, pretty good, but nothing that left me beaming. But, Yosuke is worth recommending, so I'll say it's a nice place to sit and have a nice dinner with a friend if you're in the area. FINALLY a GOOD sushi place close to where I live. Our neighbors took us to this place. We sat at the sushi bar which made the dinner conversations a bit hard. I could tell my neighbors are real foodies and they come here alot 'cause they didn't need a menu. Everything was so good, but here were a few things that stood out: 1) Spanish mackerel sushi. I hate eating mackerel b/c it has such a fishy taste and smell, BUT for some reason the Spanish didn't. It tasted kind of like hamachi. So good! 2) Sweet shrimp. It was nice a sweet of course! The interesting part was that they didn't waste the head of the shrimp. They put it in the miso soup which was so awesome cause now the soup has a nice sweet and shrimp after taste. 3) Seared beef. This reminded me of eating seared Ahi Tuna. The beef was cut into very thin pieces lightly seared on the outside with oven roasted garlic on top along with soy & vinegar type of sauce. 4) Avocado, shrimp, and fish mixed with mayo type of sauce which was placed in half of avocado shell topped with cheese and baked. This place is a hidden gem. I have always wanted to try this place whenever I'd go to hibachis ( it's 3 stores down) so we finally decided to try it this evening. I am so glad we did! Unfortunately they don't take reservations on Fridays but we decided to tough it out. I think we waited 10-15 minutes. They aren't children friendly. The host didn't really know how to handle the car seat, but luckily my daughter wanted to be out and about so we just put it back in the car. We sat at a table in the middle so I was able to look around. The place is hole in the wall tiny. But a long sushi bar. We ordered the mitzy roll #1 (spicy but good) mitzy #2 (soooooo good! It was shaped like a bridge and tasted great) than a few other basic rolls. They give you a lot on the sashimi platter which I was pleasantly surprised! I LOVE the fact they give you a cup full of ponju sauce. Most places give you barely any. It may have taken a little time to get seated, they are super quick getting your food out! The sushi here is sooooooo good. Very fresh, and the chef's will make whatever crazy concoction you ask for. I recommend the Baked Salmon roll, or a spider handroll for starters. Went to this place on the 12/31/2009. Before going to Downtown Disney for countdown. Food quality: 4 star for 8 people our check for each person was about $72.(including tips) we had Hotate (scallop) sashimi, Kanpachi sashimi... sushi like real crab leg, ika, maguro, toro, hamachi, salmon, etc etc & some hot dishes., alcohols, and Green Tea Ice creams. As for NYE dinner...everything was spoiled because of CONTINUOUS rudeness of the servers. We reserved for 8 people. My bf and I arrived before the reservation time so we were waiting. When it got close (or passed few minutes to) the reservation time, one of the server (a young guy) came up to us and pointed a seat & said the following.. [the exact quote] "oh we only have 4 seats right now though" (really casual talk.....) The server didnt say oh please wait for a bit more, or sorry for the inconvenience,,etc those kind of word at ALL. so I was like..huh? So what? I dont care if its 4 seat or what..since we reserved for 8... Very modern setup. After being sat we immediately got edamame and a warm towellete. Had the Spanish mackerel, orange clam, spider roll and crispy rice. Fish was fresh. Spider roll is typical, but good. Crispy rice is different here compared to other places, it was crispy but not super crispy. At the end of the meal you get a free panna cotta dessert, which was very tasty. Great service, great food, free edamame and free dessert. read more

Went Saturday afternoon, have been going with the family frequently and come to find out it was under new management and the difference in quality of the food is obvious. The halibut sushi and rice wasn't fresh, the albacore fire roll had a half slither of jalapeño on it, and the prices went up substantially. Don't mind paying more when the quality matches it. Was craving sushi, but we knew we wouldn't be able to get a table at Oshima, so we decided to come here and try the place out. On a Tuesday nite, the restaurant was half full, and felt nice. We were seated very quickly and opened the menu. I didn't want teriyaki so I decided to get cooked food since I am allergic to most seafood. We had the salmon skin salad, which was a huge portion, and they put plenty of salmon skin. It was a little on the salty side, but it was ok since they give you a lot of salad. We also got the fried chicken with ginger. It had a nice crispy coating, and had good flavor. Beef tataki, which the husband said it's the best he's ever had. Here, they serve it rare and seasoned. We also had the spicy calamari, which had a kick to it, and it was also good. The husband had a few sushi pieces and said the fish was fresh and tasty. Best. Sushi. Ever. When I crave it, no other place has meet my expectation. The lunch specials give you SO much at a GREAT price and SO tasty! With tax & tip, a 1 item combo will run ya' about $10. (That's easy math for when you chow with a group.) The salad dressing is addictive. The complimentary green tea (hot or cold) has real green tea flavor...not that cheap, fake junk. The miso is perfect. Their California rolls have been rolled in crack. My family has been coming here for years and have always left happy, unfortunately they just switched ownership and everything had changed. the prices just about doubled and the quality of food has gone down drastically. The chicken and pork was so dry and sushi portions were very small. We were so disappointed. I doubt i will be able to convince my family to go back again which is very disappointing that they are losing regulars. The servers are amazing but they don't have any influence over these changes. Thanks Yelp! Our group came here after reading all the glowing reviews. We got there around 8:30 PM and the place was so packed that we ended up waiting a half hour for a table. It was so worth the wait! Our waitress was so knowledgeable and kind, she offered suggestions and was extremely attentive. We ordered a few appetizers, one of them being the beef tataki which was out of this world. Thinly sliced and very lightly seared beef with little fried garlic slices in a delectable sauce. I could have just eaten that and given the place 5 stars, it was that good. The baked mussels were to die for too, nice and rich. All of the sushi was just about the best I've had and their pricing was reasonable for the quality. My favorite was the dynamite roll by far. The first dish to come out was the crunch roll, it was good, but nothing phenomenal, it didn't make me crave for more. Next came the spicy calamari, this was done just right. Perfectly crispy and mouth-watering goodness! Then here came the big bowl and I mean BIG bowl!!! The two entree combo was elegantly displayed, the presentation couldn't have been more superb. What I've never experienced, but my wife has at another sushi restaurant, is to find fish bones in the sashimi. This is the first for me! I not only pulled out one, but two bones. My wife pulled out one, that's three screw ups! Cutting sushi is a fine art and I have a healthy respect for sushi chefs, this is not acceptable. The salmon fillet was cooked beautifully, but just to find bones in the most important piece of a sushi restaurant is difficult to give rave reviews. read more

We had sat accordingly to where she had placed us to sit but I was ordered to "decide" where to sit by filling up the chairs instead of leaving one empty seat on each side. I understand his reasoning to leave open spacing for others but I had replied "that"s where your hostess sat us" since he was so rude. I then place my mothers purse and mine on the counter at the side and as many of you ladies know it's always nice to put your purse somewhere safe and clean. A waiter then tells me to move them so he can get the food from the counter so I move them. The same man then tells me to put my purse on the floor. I found that exceptionally rude of him when I already hung my purse on the chair. RUDE RUDE service. Quality of the food was okay except their rolls are messy and everywhere. Salmon was disgusting as it was a pale orange and a bit gooey. The rainbow roll also gave me a taste of the other fish which was old and crusty on the top. It was on the cheaper end which is why I'm giving it an extra star for the price to quality ratio. Don't think I'll ever come back here again. read more

The best place to sit here is, of course, at the sushi bar. They have well skilled sushi chefs here and I love watching them do their work. In terms of sashimi quality, this place is pretty solid. I've never had a bad piece of fish here, always fresh. They have new daily specials and some staples as well. Be sure to come early for their raw sweet shrimp as it does run out fast. I have a feeling that they do have a separate menu for those sitting at the tables. I'm not 100% sure because I've always sat at the bar, but Ive seen different dishes going to the tables that I never saw on the menu given to me. So if you're in need of a 'fuller' menu, then be sure to put your name down for a table. They also have quite a few regulars who sit at the bar. These customers know the chefs by name and that gives me confidence that this is a good establishment; I love seeing these relationships between customers and chefs! read more

Enjoyed dinner with a nice atmosphere. My children already enjoy sushi along with other Japanese food. One enjoyed the California roll. The other was surprised at the amount of food of the two-item combination, salmon and sashimi. I enjoyed the baked Chilean sea bass. How often you you find a place with authentic Japanese sushi? I don't mean all those crazy xyz rolls, but honest to goodness nigiri sushi with perfectly seasoned sushi rice. This is sushi perfection, the way sushi should be, not one of those cookie cutter places. The seating is somewhat limited, but so worth the wait. We sat at a table and ordered one of the boat specials. Very good price considering the amount of sushi that was served. The dinner combinations were good too, with ample portions. I would say that the sashimi here is good . Ordered around seven different sashimis and they were all fresh . Anytime I go to a new sushi restaurant , I always pray that they don ' t sell me old sashimi . I am glad this place has good practice . There's not a lot of places I say are akin to my favorite sushi spot in CA, but this was absolutely fantastic and right up there with my favorites! Sushi was absolutely phenomenal for a fair price. Fast, friendly staff who interacted and talked and laughed and joked. A good ambiance throughout the restaurant that was calming (so I'm not sure if kids would be good for this place). The green tea was moderately strong, and the miso soup delicious. Just, if you're in the area, make sure you drop in, you will not be disappointed!!! read more

Can't get enough of this place! Around where I live, there aren't many good Japanese restaurants. This is definitely an exception though! I love their sushi and highly recommend the salmon. The service is decent. What really amazed me is that their are actual japanese waitors/waitresses and sushi chefs. This makes the food taste more authentic and overall better.
