I have to start this review by saying that I do not remember a lot from my experience at Zzan because I was already housed when I arrived. That being said, my memory of it was positive and so I am leaving a review. Arrived pretty late at night, and certainly was hungry because I was drunk as hell. My friends and I ordered a ton of food and drinks which came out quickly, and we cranked through it pretty fast. The wait staff was very nice and patient even though we had a large party and took everyones order shortly after we walked in. I would say the food was good but I am not sure that is a fair assessment considered how out of it I was. I will definitely be back to try it sober and I am confident that I will not be disappointed. Absolutely delicious. We came in for dinner on a rainy Sunday night. Great service, delicious food. Highlight of the meal was the spicy pork bbq, served with ssam. Amazing. The fried chicken was also terrific, but that pork with ssam.... I will remember this meal. We also ordered kimchee fried rice, which was nice, and will make a great breakfast, and bibimbap, which was also fun. One surprisingly delicious dish - the banchan had really fantastic spinach. I love Zzan's food! It always perfectly satisfies my Korean food cravings. They have a very expansive menu, so you'll definitely find something you like. It is a bit on the pricier end, but I can't help coming back because I end up craving their food specifically. Their creamy dukkbokki is amazing! Definitely recommend getting their deep fried glass noodle seaweed rolls to dip in the sauce. I have no idea what they put in that cream sauce, but it's super addicting. Be prepared to wait a while for seating from Friday - Sunday. The ambiance is nice and young but there lacks space. Additionally, we were initially met with poor service and attention but once we were seated, the servers were on point and very attentive. CHARGED MORE THAN ALLOWED. I had to put the psa that they are not honest about it and want to take your money. The restaurant is in an ok area. I came in with a group of four at 7 and there was no wait. It is a little tight for in this space. The food was fine. It seems a bit overpriced for what they were offering. The tofu soup seemed to lack much flavor to it for a spicy soup. My table also got the spicy chewy noodles and rice cake and sausage skewer which unfortunately were not that great either. It was more hard than chewy and it seemed a bit much to charge for a rice cake and sausage with not much grill or char. Service was average but they definitely want to rush you out as soon as possible with very minimal talking. The servers did ignore our table a few times which made it hard to get the check and leave. Overall I can not reasonably say it was a worthwhile experience for Korean food when there are better options in the area. read more

Good food but dang can it get loud in here. We came in around 9 pm and the table next to us were SOOOOOO loud. I couldn't even hear my boyfriend across from me or the waitress. It was honestly super annoying. However, the food was tasty. I got the japchae and my boyfriend got the bibimbap. We decided to split the fried dumplings. Next time, I'd skip the dumplings though. They were good, but I'd rather eat my japchae. They give a pretty good sized portion for food. I had to take half of the japchae home since it was a lot. The bibimbap was good according to my boyfriend. It wasn't too heavy, which is what he wanted. It is probably a fun atmosphere if you like being loud. However, I wouldn't recommend this for a date spot. Next time, we'll probably get the food to go instead. We will be back to try some of the other foods. read more

I've gone here a couple times since it seems to be one of the few Korean restaurants that are open late in the city. Service is okay, I've had to wait pretty long to be seated and get the food. This was my first time here at this restaurant and the food was so good! The music in the restaurant wasn't too loud so our large party of 6 were still able to conversate and have a good time. We ordered almost everything shareable from fries to kimchi pancake and pork belly and cold noodles. The cold noodles were so yummy it's a must try!! We came on a Friday night so it was super busy. Our server Shin and his colleague was at the front of house and was really on top of their game. Out of nowhere the waitress serves you a large plate of coleslaw. You can't decide what to order so you throw darts at the menu First item is a green 7-11 slurpee except you have to be old to drink it. It tastes like a sour patch kid. Second item is a steaming plate of hot fried chicken. It tastes like heaven and you want to cry. The last item is a large boiling pot of red stew. OOOH MAN the amount of times my friends and I have come here, and are now on a first name basis with their staff is unbelievable! Amazing food and all around great vibes each time. There are a few things we order each time among those the corn cheese-to die for and is my absolute favorite from here! It's the perfect amount of cheesy with a slight milky flavor almost like condensed milk, mixed in the sweet corn; this one we've ordered every single time we came. Their KFC are great too, the perfect amount of sauce balanced with the crisp on the outside, paired with a small bowl of pickled radish, mmm! Some other things we ordered included the spicy rice cakes and the tofu soup. The spicy rice cakes were also really good, with the right amount of sauce however I would have liked more fish cake along with it. The seafood pancake is also great, filled with goodies and super crispy, our table absolutely killed it right away. Their banchans are pretty standard, we're a huge fan of the cabbage one; just plain ol' shredded cabbage with their secret sauce (some sort of sriracha mayo maybe?), we always get refills for this one over and over again. A bit out of the way for me but I definitely find myself back here at least once a month or more, will be back soon! read more

Have been to Zzzan so many times. Really solid late-night option in SF that serves warm, comforting food that hits the spot, especially after a concert or raves. Went here to grab army stew and some drinks. This is of course a great spot to drink (hot sake for just $6!) though the food is also really good! This was the best army stew I've ever had. TAKE-OUT experience Parking - If only this place was located in a better place where you didn't have to deal with street parking... It may take some time before you get a spot so be prepared! It is relatively muni and bus friendly-just a couple blocks from Union Square Ambiance (4.5/5) - You're greeted with tables on both sides upon entrance and a dark ambiance lit up by trendy music. The space is a bit narrow and depending on which side of the wall you're seated on, you might not get to watch the K-pop videos. Service (5/5) - I didn't actually dine in but the individual who took my order was super friendly and enthusiastic. It made me excited for the food. Food (4/5) - The food was honestly solid. If you're looking for Korean food that doesn't disappoint, I'd give ZZAN a try. After scanning through the menu, we ordered: - Kimchi Fried Rice: I don't think you can ever go wrong with Kimchi Fried Rice. Something about it being made by someone other than yourself definitely hits the spot. If you have preference for big chunks of kimchi in your fried rice, this will satisfy that condition. I personally enjoy my kimchi chunks in smaller pieces but this doesn't take away from the taste - Beef Short Rib BBQ: This was slightly burnt and a bit raw on the inside... but it was well seasoned. - Kimchi Pancake: Another item you can never really miss on. This was solid, granted we couldn't determine the crispiness as it was take out. The dipping sauce was a bit on the saltier end for me, but overall added a good soy spicy flavor. - Rice-cake Skewers: I love sticky rice-cakes. This was grilled until it's slightly crisp on the outside and then brushed/drenched with this DELICIOUS sweet sauce. I'll definitely be back for this. - (Ordered but did not receive) Pan Fried Clear Noodles: The situation here can be a whole paragraph in its own, but what happened was we never received this order. We called into ZZAN explaining the situation and they were super quick in addressing the issue. Unfortunately, we were located too far from the store to drive back but they were fast in issuing a refund. We'll definitely be back to get this next time!!
