I am surprised this restaurant isn't rated higher. We stayed at the Embassy Suites and decided to try this place. We were warmly greeted and sat right away by a window with a nice view. Our server Siobhan was very friendly and helped us pick a beer which was fantastic. The french onion soup was perfection! All of our food was scrumptious. Biscuits and gravy was so good. Bucket of clams was enjoyed by my husband. I highly recommend eating here. prices were about on par with other restaurants. $200 with tip for a family of 5 and we left full and happy. Hubby ordered the Monte Cristo with a side of a maple syrup and I had the Chicken Piccata with a side of spaghettini and ordered the lobster mac & cheese to share. We sat at the counter and watched the chefs perform their magic. The food came out delicious, hot with generous portions. Everything was flavorful and prepared well. We ended our meal with a slice of carrot cake. We're always interested in carrot cake especially if there's pineapple and nuts in it. Pineapple was advertised as being included in the cake, but in this instance, the pineapple were two pieces served on the side. Hubby was very happy with the hefty sized Monte Cristo, as he was only able to eat half. My husband and I ate dinner here when we stayed in Seattle for a Seahawks playoff game. The atmosphere was wonderful. At first I was unsure how I felt about being sat at the bar area (after waiting) but it was fun to watch the chefs cook! My chicken Alfredo was the BEST I've EVER had! We had the carrot cake, cookie extreme, fried ice cream, chocolate mouse, chocolate decadence and the classic coins cheesecake. My favorite was the cookie extreme. A baked to order cookie served with chocolate fudge and whipped cream. Freshly baked cookie was so good. The other really good one was the fried ice cream. What a disappointment! I was there with a group of 5 and knew no one. I inquired where the group was located at the check-in desk and the woman there vaguely pointed me in the direction of the group. Next, I ordered some broccolini- a small dish full and what I thought was a side salad. Both were meh and mediocre- salad drenched in dressing and the broccolini tough. I ate maybe half of it and the whole shebang cost me $25. This was my Christmas dinner. It seemed like my dining companions liked their food, but this was truly forgettable. The downstairs restroom, lacked both soap and paper towels. This was at 4 PM. I realize that 13 Coins is a Seattle institution, that things may not have gone as well as they could for the restaurant on Christmas, but this whole experience was so disappointing. Ok so this used to be a favorite and we would have given it a 4 or 5 in the past. Things change - but we haven't made it here this soccer season and today won't bring us back for a long time. The cheese topping, onions, pieces of bread along with the soup itself... great flavors married into one small dish. Crazy Ono! The chicken Marsala with risotto was perfect! The chicken was so well prepared I used a spoon to cut it. Risotto was perfectly al dente as it should be-no mush, no crunch. The Marsala was well balanced and did not overpower the chicken. And the kicker... the CARROT CAKE. Our server Joel (Hope i spelled his name right) tipped me on that since the fried ice cream wasn't available. I have never tasted such a delicious carrot cake in my like! Usually it's to veggie tasting or too dry but this one was broke da mouth! We really enjoyed this restaurant, especially the service. Alan did a wonderful job taking care of us (thanks for the creme brulee dessert!). We were very impressed by most everything. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the scallops were cooked perfectly, the sauces were amazingly delicious, and I would love to have been able to give this place five stars. Unfortunately, the shrimp in both of our dishes was way overcooked. You could hear the plate crashing against the shrimp when you bang the shrimp against it, which should never happen. You would think a place like this would know well enough not to cook shrimp until it's completely dry and hard. Otherwise, a really nice experience. read more
