I used to cherish the omakase here--when premium scallops and tuna graced the table, and each dish left me pleasantly full. Now, it appears that quality is optional. opted for supermarket sushi instead, and I leave half full. read more

OMG, just the sushi place I've been looking for in the Millbrae SB area. 1. Their nigiri specials are so so good. HUGE chunks of premium cuts of fish, at very reasonable prices. And amazing quality. 2. Even for simple rolls like a spicy tuna, the quality was beyond anything I've ever seen outside of super fancy omakase's. 3. The lady on the phone was very nice, probably the first time I've had such a good experience with any restaurant on the phone, ever. She patiently explained what the rolls were and talked to me about the order. A roll was missing and I got a refund for that, but I can't even deduct a rating for the missing roll coz the food was just that good. 4. The premium rolls came with some real wasabi! What a treat!! And a HUGE glob of it too, so nice. Stop salivating, just go get it!! read more

Amami Sushi is now less busy. We go there 5:30pm on Sunday and there is no wait. We still like $38 omakase sushi. It was good, not as great as before. We order $22 sashimi, which is much smaller than $22 chirashi. Same types of fish, less quality and less rice. Does not seem to make sense. Parking it limited but since we go early, there is some space. When we leave, there is no space and some people park illegally and block others. read more

Make a reservation !!! They have two locations and it's always packed! Like who can beat 10 piece $38 omakase set in the city?? They give the perfect amount of fish to rice ratio and the fish is always fresh! Never had a bad one. FOOD: Oyster special $9.50 for 2 piece (5/5) comes with uni, cavier, and oysters. THIS IS SUPER GOOD. everything was really fresh. Tai carpaccio $17 (5/5) comes with truffle oil and presentation for this is on point. Small, quaint and clean. Came here at 1pm on a Sunday and got seated right away by the only one server. She was attentive and quick. We did not have to flag her down for anything. Real Japanese patrons so you know it must be pretty decent . Ordered karage which was a tad under done for our liking. Also tried the Rainbow, LA, Double Tuna and the Amami Special rolls. All were yummy with the exception of the Amami Special which has nothing special about it. I guess, we were expecting it to be better since it is supposedly their "special"- they are naming it after their establishment for Heaven's sake. It was okay but was our least favorite; if and when we ever return, we will not reorder it. read more

I travel from ny and friends recommended this place to me. I'd say this place is probably the most affordable omakase in the Bay Area (I've never had a omakase that is less than $80). The set came with 10 pieces and as you can see in the picture, the size of the fish is long! It also came with a huge fresh grated wasabi (second piece on top on the right side) we all thought that was avocado at first lol. Overall the fish were fresh and the place was very affordable. Came on a Friday night. Called in at 7:10, was told that a table would be ready at 7:45. Arrived at 7:30, was told it would take another 20 minutes for a table at 7:40. It actually took another 55 minutes to be seated. They have a Yelp Waitlist, but whatever the wait time Yelp says is wrong because they have a physical waitlist as well. They crammed a party of 5 into a table made for 4. The table next to us experienced the same thing, but since they weren't next to the walking space, they had to sit 3 people on one side. Hamachi Kama 3/5 stars - The fish was firm and flavor was okay. However, the fish was dry. Dipping sauce was good. Came presented on top on a piece of lettuce which was unnecessary. Lion King Roll 2/5 - The rice just fell apart as I picked up a piece. The texture was just mush. I could really only taste the avocado and salmon that was on top. Ankimo 3.5/5 - Nice and buttery. Melts easily in the mouth. Tai Carpaccio 4/5 - The fish just melts in your mouth. The sauce was a nice compliment. Uni 3/5 - It was okay, not the best. I thought it could be fresher. Omakase 4/5 - Pieces of fish are giant. The fish is fresh. The set is good for its price. The rice isn't as soft as I wanted it to be. Pretty filling. Ordered two sets for us to share. The extra wait was not worth it to me. Next time, I'll just stick with ordering takeout if I eat here again. read more

Every time I eat here, I always leave with a happy belly. Awesome sashimi, great presentation, awesome omakase(and chefs), and more! I highly suggest eating here. Parking is rough, but when you come right before it opens, you shouldn't really have a problem. The portions here are amazing for reasonable prices too. Still drooling over this place. read more

First visit... The exterior suggests a mediocre restaurant hides within. But looks can be deceiving. As soon as we opened the door, the drab exterior revealed an absolutely hopping and large dining room with a long wait list. Good thing we called ahead in the afternoon to reserve a table. Service was a little perfunctory and hurried. But it's clear they're trying to turn tables quickly, so I guess that tracks. Food: - Agedashi tofu: untraditional - not brothy at all, but basically crisp-fried silken tofu with a dipping sauce. Really delicious but not what we expected. - Hamachi kama: good, but lacked the grilled flavor that often puts this dish over the top - Various rolls: All very tasty and generous portion sizes. LOVE the fresh wasabi. - Various nigiri: yellowtail, tuna, unagi, scallop, octopus - all as good or better than any neighborhood sushi joint. The portions are more than fair, the fish was properly cut and tasted clean and fresh, and the menu had everyone you'd want. - Stir fried udon: the only loser of the night. Not bad or anything, but didn't have enough flavor. Just boring. I've had much better versions. Value: OMG we all stuffed our faces for $40 each all-in (no booze). Given that a half -decent burrito in SF is like $22 these days, I'd call this a terrific value. We all walked away extremely happy and impressed. We'll be back. read more

Super impressed by the freshness of the food and good prices! They offer Omakase specials If you are interested. I got the Lover's Boat which included California roll, tuna roll, sashimi, and nigiri. Perfect plate to share! I recommend Reservations, but they do accept walk ins. Definitely coming back whenever I'm in the area. read more

The food here is still good, but the wait is getting pretty ridiculous. Even with reservations, we had to wait an hour and a half. 7:30 PM reservations. We didnt get seated until almost 9PM. No apologies from the host, who was visibly frustrated. Many people who were waiting left angry and hungry. Minus one and a half stars for the crazy wait. Minus half a star for not accommodating customers' simple requests. I ordered omakase and asked for a little more rice in my nigiri because I know they put an extremely small amount of rice under the fish, and the waitress said no because the chef only makes it one way. I just wanted a normal amount of rice in my nigiri. read more

Amami Sushi hits a sweet spot for my price-to-happiness ratio. The nigiri is served with fresh wasabi (big plus), and the cuts of fish are large and do not taste or smell funky. The omakase is pretty affordable when compared to that of other sushi restaurants in the area, so it's a pretty good value for your money. The staff is friendly and the ambiance is casual, so it's perfect for a chill night with friends. The parking lot directly next to the restaurant is pretty small, so if you can't secure one of those spots, head to the public parking lot nearby (it's a little southeast). Also, if you are parking on a slope, you are the other Amami on the north side of the same street. read more

4 stars for the amazing food and cheap but well worth it Omakase! We sat at the sushi bar and watched chef Alan put together the many Omakase's and other orders. He's truly got a skill with the knife and it was amazing to watch how quick he was! The sashimi cuts on the nigiri in the 10 piece Omakase were huge and melted in your mouth. Each piece was cut and put together beautifully. We also tried the oyster special and rose roll both were amazing! We wanted to try the Santa Barbra Bui but they were all sold out :( 3 stars for the service... making a reservation doesn't seem to help much. I get it when you're busy on a Sunday and have many people waiting to be seated along with having only 2 servers in a small but very busy restaurant it's overwhelming. But it's important to at least acknowledge customers when they walk in rather than completely ignoring them. Overall 3.5 experience. Def only coming here for the amazing food and Omakase and not expecting much from the service. read more

Definitely hands down one of my favorite sushi spot! For any weekend that I can't decide on what to eat. We come here! Why you say? The service is fast the food is amazing! I myself always get the omakase! It's only 42$ super cheap! It's a small cute little restaurant and it's a cozy! There's also two other locations in the bay area but I prefer this one because it's so close by! read more

Amami Sushi was recommended to me by someone I met a while ago. I also read a lot of good 5 star reviews and I've been lagging on driving here. My food buddy and I finally came here on a Friday ten minutes after they opened. To our surprise it wasn't busy like many reviews mentioned. We were greeted nicely and immediately gave us a table for two. Immediately I had my eyes set on their famous omakase which truly is a must try for any first timers. We also went for the seared toro tartar, Santa Barbara uni, Snow White, and tiger roll. Their omakase and nigiri has so much flavor. It taste different from other restaurants. I think they serve better quality here and the pieces are big as well. The rolls were also delicious but I was mainly here for the omakase and nigiri. Being that it was a Friday night, I think we got lucky because half way through our meal people started showing up and soon after there quite a few waiting to be seated. I guess we got here while everyone were getting off work and hitting traffic. One of the best sushi restaurants I've been to in the bay. Friendly and attentive staff! Small parking lot with street parking. I'm looking forward to eating here again! read more

Fish is fresh and not fishy. Say that 3x! We normally dine in at their other location, 312 El Camino , but sooo happy that our take out order was delicious! I was hesitant to order sushi to go because I feel that trying to get all those delicate pieces together in a to go box takes the beauty out of the meal. No? I mean c'mon it's in a bloody plastic box! What would Gordon Ramsey say?! Yeah.. no more binge watching Master Chef for me (all episodes streaming on hulu). Came here for the Omakase! We went on a Thursday night so we were able to get seated right away. I know this place can be busy on the weekends. Had 10 nigiri with Amani sushi's signature big "neta". I wish the server went over what each nigiri was instead of just serving it to us without any explanation. Coming from Japanese background, small gestures and service like that goes a long way. I hope they can implement that in their service for omakase! Other than that it was delicious for its price. My favorite part was actually the wasabi infused with ginger that came on the plate. If you're looking for your first affordable omakase this is a place to go! And maybe grab an in-n-out burger on the way home...... read more

Amami is a solid sushi restaurant that'll fill you up. There isn't a wow factor here other than the price. My friends and I got the lovers boat as well as split a tempura box and we had tons of leftovers after. Service was decent but I do recommend coming early as they receive a lot of takeout orders and will make you wait until they're complete. read more

One of our last meals in San Francisco was a treat yourself meal from Amami Sushi. The outside of Amami is not that appealing... looks like it used to be a KFC or another fast food joint as there's an old drive thru window. Small parking lot and there's another public lot next to it. Had a reservation for 4 but did not get seated until an hour later. Very small inside & crazy busy. My party and I got the Amami special roll, omasake, 2 tai carpaccios, oyster specials, some uni, toro, kobe beef, king crab special. The bill was about $200. The tai carpaccio was really good! Melt-in-your mouth deliciousness and perfect with the ponzu/truffle oil sauce. The roll tasted alright (king crab, unagi, avocado). It was a little plain for me, probably because I like saucier rolls. The oysters were good but felt like it was topped with way too much roe and that took away from the light natural flavor of the oyster. Everything was really fresh though. Complimentary dessert for each guest (black sesame/red bean/green tea ice cream or green tea cheesecake). I was having trouble deciding so the guy (think he's the manager not sure) was like "how about the green tea cheesecake, girls like cheesecake." Lol. Pretty tasty sweets. Best bang for your buck ever! Their omakase is less than $40 for 8-10 pieces. Can you say WORTH IT? Everything is fresh, and the workers are always very attentive and constantly moving around. There are booth seats, regular seats, and bar seats. The only downside to this place is that the parking can be difficult as they have very limited parking. You can also try your luck with street parking! I've read reviews and heard from friends that it can get crowded... so be sure to come at either an off hour or right when they open. read more

Did I really have sushi two times in a row this week? I have to feed my sushi addiction, I just have to. I've seen so many friends eat here and take photos of the omakase on their iconic marble-like plates, it's very easy to recognize this place. The fish looks so good that I knew I had to try it and honestly, Amami has been bookmarked on Yelp for way too long. Amami is pretty great, I'm surprised it took me this long to cross over the bridge and try it. The quality of the fish was impeccable and I truly appreciated the fish to rice ratio. There was plenty of fish and just a little bit of rice underneath. I'm pretty sure everyone comes here and orders the Omakase. You can tell because it took a very long time for us to get our food and almost every table had 3-4 orders of it at least. For $36, you get 10 pieces which can seem a little steep but the quality of fish makes up for it. I was mildly disappointed when I asked for oysters and they told me they ran out for the evening. Then I asked if they had Uni and the server said no. Toro? Nope. So.....what DO you have? Just a very awkward conversation but I guess all the good things run out very quickly. It seemed like there were still a few hours until dinner service was over, so maybe purchase more next time? We also waited about 45 minutes to get our Omakase, I'm guessing because everyone orders it at the restaurant, they tend to get a little backed up. I hope you're not starving when you get seated because you'll be pretty hangry on a busy night waiting for your food. They also tend to play "favorites" I guess for the regulars that come here often because they were churning out sushi and appetizers for them very quickly, while everyone at the restaurant just waited. I wouldn't come here if I didn't have a reservation honestly. I called in two hours before and we still had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated. What I didn't understand about their process was how they still accepted reservations for 15-30 minutes later meaning when it was 7, they were accepting reservations for 7:15 and 7:30. Didn't seem too fair for the people who put their names down and are waiting at the restaurant in my opinion. I believe this location is the busiest one because it's the first one. They have another in Cupertino that is probably way less busy but wherever there's good sushi, people come running. read more

Nothing will compare to actual sushi in Japan, but Amami comes pretty darn close! My bf and I come here whenever we want a high quality meal for reasonable prices. We usually get 1 order of omakase and 1 order of chirashi or sashimi to share. Omakase (10 pieces for $36) - This is the #1 item worth getting here. Chef's choice of the freshest fish selection daily. Literally melts in your mouth. A bit pricey but reasonable compared to other omakase places in the city. Salmon and baby lobster pieces are my favorite. Plus the plating on a marble platter, highly instaworthy ;) Sashimi (10 pieces for $19, 20 pieces for $36, 30 pieces for $49) - Very high quality sashimi over rice. Not as good as the omakase, but still quite delicious and more filling. Chirashi ($19) - Basically the same as sashimi over rice but maybe different variety of fish. Also comes with miso soup. They take reservations, but I usually walk-in and never had to wait more than 20-30 minutes. I've only gone in a group of two before though, so I highly recommend making a reservation if you have a large party because space is limited. read more

Definitely my favorite place for fresh sushi! Came here to celebrate Mother's Day. We had come from a family gathering and were pretty full. So we ordered the omakase, 20 piece sashimi, Atlantic salmon and seared toro with Uni. Unfortunately they were already out of oyster spoons (again). What a let down. We've been waiting to try those spoons for a long time. Every time we come they are out of oysters. Onto the omakase - it was fresh and delicious. Every piece melted in my mouth. I was in 7th heaven. Way back before the pandemic, the wait here was super long. We recently came here on a Friday night at 5:30 and there was no wait so we went for a walk to wait for a friend. Even at 6pm, there wasn't a wait which we thought was odd. The service is better than it used to be. They were friendly and attentive. The fish was fresh and as good as we remember. We really like that they have an extensive menu with many cooked dishes and raw fish choices that you don't normally see at other places. Their Omakase is delicious and presented very nicely and the Uni in a Spoon is great. I love how the food is presented because it makes it so appetizing. This place use to be so good but today, I ordered take out, omakase, melt in your mouth roll, red and white roll, and wild boy roll. Melt in your mouth: it used to be less rice and more scallop on top, what happened? Scallop was so small and thin and the rice was falling apart when I picked it up with chop sticks. Red and white roll: looks like brown and whit to me, tuna does not look fresh. Thank you Amani for being open for take out and delivery during this time! I've been craving sushi for a while now and finally got my sushi fix today! My boyfriend and I ordered the Lovers Boat. I think it usually comes in a boat if you dine-in, but since this was take out, it came in a platter. I've always said that you eat with your eyes and this spread was beautiful with nice variety of sashimi, nigiri, and sushi roll (green dragon roll and California roll). Everything on it was fresh and delicious! However, the best part about this platter were the oysters! They were small, but very flavorful! We use to love going to Amami sushi, then the service and the food went down hill. The portions got smaller and the omakase had smaller pieces and lost the mini lobster. We were craving sushi and decided to give them another opportunity. We ordered salmon sashimi and a omakase. We specifically asked for no wasabi for the salmon sashimi when we did the Uber eats order and of course there was wasabi with the sashimi. The portion was also really small for the price. We had to cut out the sashimi that touched the wasabi for my daughter. I had the omakase and get the portion was small and the rice wasn't flavorful. This place has such good fresh sushi! WAAAAAAAY better than Eikos or Morimoto in my honest opinion, and I am a connoisseur of seafood. Mollie the manager is awesome. Very quality, generous-sized rolls. My uni nigiri was a delight, and so delicate and yummy. I don't know why this place has less than 5 stars on yelp! It is affordable and the staff is friendly, plus it is super clean and cozy inside. The last time I ate here I ordered the chirashi for $21 and boy was that an excellent deal with thick cuts of fresh fish. There was a fresh bed of sushi rice filling the entire plastic takeout container. It was a 100% 5/5. This time around, I called in the order and they were out of Chirashi and sashimi fish, but still had rolls available for order. Without having any backups in mind (my fault!) I asked what the most popular rolls are and just ordered one of those. I got the romeo and juliet roll, as well as the melt in your mouth roll for my GF and I. Both super delicious and tasted great. My only dock is that the prices were relatively high compared to how much fish I got. I think total was slightly over $30? Makes sense that the scallop is a bit more expensive, but I was still hungry after the order. read more

Normally we might pay around $120-$130 depending on the place, sometimes a little more if we add an extra item or two. The portion sizes were pretty standard. Not unusually large, but not small either -- similar to what we've experienced at many other sushi restaurants. Where this place really stood out was the depth of flavor. The quality and balance of the ingredients were excellent. At one point I actually caught myself closing my eyes just to focus on the taste, which is something I almost never do. If it's your first time visiting, I can't recommend the omakase enough. It offers an incredible variety of fish, with each piece showcasing just how fresh and expertly prepared everything is. Every visit feels a little different, which keeps the experience exciting. Outside of the omakase, the large sashimi platter is another must order. The portions are generous, the presentation is beautiful, and each cut is clean, buttery, and packed with flavor. The tai carpaccio is another standout, balancing delicate slices of sea bream with bright, refreshing flavors that let the fish shine without overpowering it. Not to mention that the truffle oil makes the dish truly unforgettable. The restaurant itself has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. This was a last minute decision to go out for my husband's birthday. He called ahead and put his name on the list. On arrival, there were about 10 people waiting outside. Thinking uh oh, we'll be waiting. We were late but luckily we were seated rather quickly. We ordered within 10-15 minutes. Ordered the California roll, beef teriyaki & tempura combo and a salmon entree. One last piece of sushi was left when the beef teriyaki and rice was served to my husband. Maybe 15 minutes later, when he was half way done with his beef teriyaki, my salmon entree was served. As I watched my husband eat his beef teriyaki, waiting for the tempura that never arrived, he was building a mound of gristle & fat. He was not enjoying his food. My salmon was exceptional and cooked to perfection. Earlier, a food server asked if we got the tempura, no we didn't, and she was going to check on it. My husband said nevermind because he was already done eating. She assured us that it was on its way. No it wasn't. Another food server came and we told her since the tempura never came, we don't want it, to just leave it off. Ok she said. Paid and tipped (of course) But will we be back? Probably not, but my salmon was amazing. So, you want fries with that burger? But you'll have to wait until you're done eating the burger ok? read more

I visited Amami Sushi on a Wednesday evening with my parents and my 1-year-old son. We arrived at 6:30 PM and were seated promptly. The staff quickly brought out complimentary Japanese edamame beans and hot tea, making us feel welcome right away. For dinner, my dad enjoyed a hearty bowl of udon, while my mom and I ordered three different rolls, the char-grilled fish collar, and grilled squid. We also left the sashimi selection to the sushi chef for a two-person order. Every dish was generously portioned, and the presentation was as impressive as the flavors. The wait time for our dishes was reasonable, and the service was attentive throughout the evening. I can't stop dreaming about the grilled blue fin tuna collar they have here. It's rich with a variety of different tuna texture from creamy melt in your mouth bites to a more solid dark meat bite. I've been lucky enough to have it twice and I think it's the best thing that have; even better than the Omakase. The collar is huge and best to share (in addition to your own sushi) with 2-3 other people depending on the price and your appetite. The price of the collar varies on the size ($25-35) and unfortunately is only on their daily whiteboard specials so there's no guarantee you'll get it. With that said, I always order off their specials menu on the whiteboard up front and it has never led me astray. Take a picture of it before you get seated or else you'll have to walk back over. The omakase for $30 is probably the best deal you'll get on truly fresh sushi at huge portions. To get omakase and not wait in line, definitely make a reservation or come right when they open at 5:30PM and try to sit at the bar on the far left so you can see Chef Alan prepare your sushi. For rolls and other specials, you'll want to sit on the far right. If there's no bar seating, you'll enjoy the experience and food nonetheless! Can't wait to go back again and again. read more

WOWZERS, my boyfriend and I love this place now! After the first time, we were definitely hooked. The wait was a tad long even though we called for reservations, but after reading through some reviews, I concluded that "you get what you pay for." My boyfriend isn't fat but he can eat like nobody's business. He decided to get two omakase's for himself and I called him out on only eating one. Boy, did I fail. Even for the price we paid, I was shocked because it was under $100. Trust, we eat like pigs (or at least he does) at most Japanese restaurants. I'm more of a sashimi kind of girl so I went for the raw stuff immediately (no pun intended). The service was so friendly that night despite the poor customers that gave them crap for delays. I mean, c'mon, what do you expect in a busy restaurant? There are only 2-3 servers with 2 main chefs working the bar. I'd assume another cook in the back? Aside from the food and service, I was so surprised to see that the "king" of this place has over 50 check ins and 80+ pictures to just his own self. And I thought I ate a lot of sushi as is. I visited this restaurant on Father's Day, expecting a pleasant dining experience, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. The restaurant wasn't crowded, yet the service was incredibly slow. It was clear that priority was given to takeout orders over dine-in customers. The service was poor, with the staff showing little interest in attending to our table. We had to request water refills, which should be a basic service provided without prompting. Despite a recent price hike, the quality of the food has noticeably declined. The kitchen staff did not appear professional; the chef at the service counter was not wearing proper attire and had greasy hair with no chef's hat in sight. This raised serious concerns about hygiene and professionalism. To add to the frustration, a mandatory 20% tip was included in the bill, and there was an additional prompt to leave an extra tip. This practice felt quite misleading and left a bad taste after an already disappointing meal. Overall, it was a very poor experience. I went to this place for the first time to day since Sushi Raw has closed for dinner with my girls after a little shopping. I was really surprised with what the new owners did with the place. It looks really great, a lot more modern. We were seated at a table like booth which gave use some privacy. I would come back soon with my husband for a date night because the place has a sort of romantic mood to it. We ordered the oyster special, short rib, yakitory, some Saba and hamachi. Also we order this a few rolls. I really like the how the food was plated. My favorite in our order was the oyster special and the sashimi, as i said before i like there display of the food which is a big deal for my, not only was it well plated the oysters and the fish where Super fresh. I have not eaten oyster and sashimi that fresh in a long time. The only time Ive eatten oysters that fresh tasting was when i bought fresh oysters near the catch site. Really good place! 5 stars, even though restaurant parking isn't big enough, but there is plenty of parking around (parking lots, street parking), so no complains! I love their Chef's Special (Omakase) - 10 pieces nigiri for 30$ - sounds like a deal? /Alan, I love you!/ But no jokes, Alan is super sweet. He will have no problems to talk to the customers, make some jokes, find the proper thing that would fit their tastes (he never made any mistakes with me :)) + he will serve it fast and in the artistic manner! Their musts: Romeo and Juliet, Snow White, 49ers, their tender sashimi pieces... Fish is always super fresh! Staff is super friendly. Started coming here in October of last year instead of our usual place and we have never gone back to our old place. The quality of the food here is better than any other local places. Staff is always very welcoming and makes for a wonderful place to frequent. Always very busy however the staff manages it amazingly. Always very fast service and makes up for minimal wait times without a reservation. They also accommodate for delivery's through Uber eats and grub hub which is an awesome option if you would rather stay in. Very affordable for the high quality of the food. I recommend this location specifically to many family and friends and it never disappoints. I will continue to come every weekend for the great service and even better food! read more

Cute little sushi restaurant in San Francisco that is worth trying their Omakase special. My food buddy and I finally came here on a Friday ten minutes after they opened. To our surprise it wasn't busy like many reviews mentioned. We were greeted nicely and immediately gave us a table for two. Immediately I had my eyes set on their famous omakase which truly is a must try for any first timers. We also went for the seared toro tartar, Santa Barbara uni, Snow White, and tiger roll. Their omakase and nigiri has so much flavor. It taste different from other restaurants. I think they serve better quality here and the pieces are big as well. The rolls were also delicious. Amami is a staple sushi joint in south city. Luckily my friend had reservations for dinner - it almost always is at least an one hour wait if you try to walk-in. Even with a reservation, do expect a wait upon arrival, just make sure you check-in with the staff. I was able to eat at the sushi bar and watch Chef Alan go to work as he threw down on the Omakase I ordered. $33 for 10 pieces is a steal considering how fresh the fish is. I made sure to take my time to let the nigiri sit, as I was getting closer to finishing the Omakase, my tummy was definitely satisfied. I would give Amami 5 stars but their service is non-existent, sadly chef Alan can not do everyone's job as he was the highlight of my experience at Amami. read more

The hype does not lie. We came on a Friday night, waited for an hour.. And left! Came back on a Tuesday night and made a reservation.. And still had to wait 30 minutes! BUT.. The fresh and tasty fish just melts in my mouth! The BF and I both had the omakase! $30 for 10 pieces of chef's choice. We also HAD to order the Spoonful of Happiness.. Or whatever Amami calls it. I was approached by a waitress telling that they are close and they open at 5pm. They way she told me, she was extremely rude and she meets the definition of uneducated BITCH.
