Small Mexican food joint. The place is kinda small and cramped but worth it. The salsa and chips are hats down the best at any restaurant I've eaten at. Beans are great with any meal you order. I stopped here on my way from Tahoe to LA. I ordered my food and was back on the road in 10 minutes......with a bunch of really good food for the rest of y 4 hour drive. I stop here regularly when traversing 395. The food is fine, the staff are friendly, and even on a holiday weekend there was only a few minutes wait for a table. Chips and salsa were fresh and hot (not in that order); the quesadilla was good; wife's pork whatever was yummy but a bit spicier than she likes (so I got to eat the leftovers later). Another favorite stop when in Bishop. This is a great little restaurant. They are fast and friendly, serving fabulous Mexican food. Mr. B and I walked from our hotel down Main St. and Amigos was our destination for a great dinner. When ordering my tacos our fun, friendly waiter asks me if I want Mexican style or American style on my tacos. American is the typical meat, lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes with crunchy taco shells. I opt for the Mexican style and so glad I did. The tortillas were steamed to perfection and served with tender shredded beef, pico de gallo and a black bean sauce. Mr. B ordered the enchilada platter and we shared the beans and rice. The enchiladas were equally as good, not dripping in cheese, the rice was perfectly seasoned and the beans were topped with Mexican Cotija cheese that was placed briefly under the broiler and the cheese was toasted giving the perfect crunch. This place has been here forever and wanted to like it more but the food was just OK for me. The chips and salsa were good. I had the combo with an enchilada, taco and tamale with rice and beans. Everything was OK but just a little bland. A generous amount of meat and very speedy service are some of the positives. Unfortunately you can usually find really great Mexican fare in most towns in Cali these days and this place comes up a little short compared to the best. My wife commented that it tasted like good Mexican fare from the 1960's. I would have to agree. read more

I was sick of seeing the same McD's/ Subways sparsed on the way up to Mammoth, good thing Amigo's fulfilled my Mexican food fix. It's no 5-star joint, but it sure as hell beats any Taco Bell or Del. Service is noteworthy; food comes out quick and fresh, prices are reasonable. Complimentary chips and salsa are insanely addicting. If you're gonna get their chicken tortilla soup, you should get the bowl and not the cup as you'll get more bang for your buck. Chimichangas are HUGE, although side of rice dried out my mouth. Restaurants like these are representative of a small and friendly town such as Bishop. Attentive and not overbearing service, and their Mex food didn't break the bank. read more

This was probably the worst burrito I've ever had. It was super soggy and disgustingly moist. Upon receiving my burrito it had pico spread all the way across the top of it, which made it this way. I ordered their chicken burrito, and was disappointed to take a bite only to find pieces of chicken and hunks of cheese. Wish there was maybe some lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, you know things you USUALLY get in a burrito? On top of all this is, it was soo greasy! Surprised to see how this place has 4 stars. I had the Chile Verde Burrito with rice and beans plus a side of guacamole. It was perfect. Warmed me up good given I came in from a chilly windy night at 28F. I love this place. Ate here in early August coming back from a trip to Tahoe. Long drive. Very weary. Wanted food. Ordered carne asada taco plate. Look, Mexican food is easy to come by in California. Any place with beans and rice can say 'we serve the best ...' and I will find fault with it. But this little nothing place, this one-horse town and its strip mall Mexican restaurant ... they did a good job. The salsa was fresh and the chips were crisp. The tacos were loaded with beef that was hot and well seasoned, but not too much. The cheese and onions, cilantro and peppers ... they all worked together and I couldn't finish both. And I NEVER take leftovers home. So that's a good sign. I ate the other taco on the road home to OC later that night, but I give Amigo's a solid rating. I don't usually write a bad review but this was the most aweful customer service I've ever had. We were just passing by for a quick togo dinner on our way to Lake Tahoe. This lady working on the night shift gave as an unwelcoming attitude and aweful look on her face. She shouldn't be working there in that kind of industry because it requires skills of customer service which unfortunately she does not posess as a hostess. Myself my wife and two kids went there on a Saturday night which was pretty busy but they quickly found seating for us. The nice waitress took our order, our food was promptly brought out and it was really delicious. Homemade beans and rice, excellent green chili chicken enchiladas, and my wife's taco was great. Spent the night in Bishop on our way up 395. Walked to Amigos from our hotel about half a mile away. Nice little place with tables and chairs. The soda fountain is inside what looks like an old pickup window to the kitchen dressed up with curtains. Good selection of Mexican bottled beer. Service to our family was fast and attentive. Chips were fresh and made in house. The salsa was great and seemed to be made in house as well. I had Tacos Alcopuco with rice and beans. The flavors were good. I found the rice a bit too salty for my taste. My wife loved her tostada thing with a jalapeno hickory sauce that wasn't too spicy for her. read more

Have to apologize in advance for being a bit too excited by all the five star reviews. When I walked in I couldn't believe I was even in the right place. I asked to check the menu because absolutely nothing about Amigos looks five star from the out or inside. In fact, on walking in I thought it was just a take out place. Thinking the food must be amazing to make up for the rest, we tried it. The chips were good, the salsa ok, the guacamole was extremely bland and had lettuce mixed in. Terrible terrible customer service. I don't know why anyone would spend money to eat at a place with such rude and disrespectful staff. Food was cold and bland. Waitress didn't know the menu well at all and was super confused when the meals arrived as to who had ordered what. She ended up sticking her dirty long nails into the the dishes to switch them to the right person. This place seems like it's run by a bunch of recovering addicts who are forced to keep a job. We found this place using Poynt, and followed up the recommendations with the reviews on Yelp. We were a group of six and we took a group vote and came up with 4.5 stars although YELP made us choose a whole number. Everyone had something different and each was very satisfied with their plates. We had hot out of the oven tortilla chips and their homemade salsa was a great compliment. We tried the homemade hot sauce and it didn't disappoint either. Considering that I could tell the staff was mexican, I assumed the food would be great. We were coming back from being up near the Bristle Cone Pines and decided to stop here due to their "high" rating. I ordered the chicken flautas/taquitos and the chicken tasted like plain boiled chicken. It was so bland. I'm very critical when it comes to the beans and rice (I'm Mexican myself) and the beans tasted over refried?? Or may they used aging pinto beans. They just weren't good. As for the rice, it was over cooked and dry. How can you get that wrong?!? We ate some of it (only because we were starving) and left. It was very disappointing. I guess if you don't know better, you would rate it a 3 or above. I'm giving the place 3 stars. Only for their hospitality. read more
