They both good either way, so it was too much of a hassle to have it corrected. For food, we ordered the Grilled Filet Mignon and Chicken Steak ($16.95), HK Noodle Soup with Beef Balls and Beef Tendons ($11.95), Pork Broccoli ($17.95), Baked Ox Tongue with Rice ($14.95), and Beef Chow Fun with Dark Soy ($13.95). I absolutely love the refreshing refillable lemon/orange iced tea (you can pick if you want lemon or orange slices in the sweet tea). The HK milk tea is flavorful too. This is the place to dine if you cannot decide where to go. They have everything here! The menu is massive! From soup to salad to sandwich to noodle to steak. Portion size is good for two people. It's always more fun to order a few dishes and share with your party - and with leftovers for your next meal. I luv this place, specially their iced lemon tea. However, whenever I order for drink pick up, my order is never ready when I'm there. They wait for costumer to get there and start making the drinks. This happened more than five times and I told them that I called ahead so the drinks are ready for pick up. We ordered one order of iced Hong Kong milk tea, eel fried rice, baked spaghetti, and medium rare rack of lamb. Now to explain why I decided to give 3 stars...the wait took what seems like forever (forever being like around 40 minutes wait time). Our party noticed other people who sat way after receiving their food right away. We didn't even receive our drinks or water until way later. We overheard that a waiter may have put in our order incorrectly which explained why they came to our table 2 times asking if we ordered two different drinks, which we didn't. After a long time of waiting for food, we received all of our items at once. I'm not going to be one to say that these are simple dishes to make since I'm not a chef so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they just messed up our order. The food was actually really yummy and the portions were huge. For a party of 4, we were all stuffed and there were leftovers after. went with my friends on a Sunday afternoon. pretty empty. my friend ordered xo seafood fried rice, baked porkchop pasta, chicken cutlet, and i ordered their special nt steak with fish cutlet. after 15 mins everyone else's food came out, my meal was nowhere to be seen. we asked them to check on my order, the server nodded and never came back. after 45mins i figured it's probably not coming. so when we ask for the bill, we checked and it was still included. and we told them to take it off the bill. so no apologies from the staff. no follow up on a missing order request. food was ok but service was none existent. read more

The old standby - that's what I call this place. I've been coming here for years and years, and the food and service has always been consistently good. The HK iced teas are still one of the best in SGV, by my measure, and all of the portions and quality have held up over time and through inflation. Sure, you have to wave your arms to get service, at times, but that's what you do at HK style cafes. The lunch specials are a great deal. I got a chicken steak and filet mignon combo for $16 and change--incredible. Is it Morton's? Don't kid yourself. But is it crazy tasty when paired with black pepper sauce? You know it is. I ordered a dry stir-fried beef river today. The taste is not bad, and the serving speed is also fast, but the service quality is average. For example, before the dish was served, a waiter didn't use his strength nicely. When he put the plate and the chopsticks on it on my desk, his strength was not well controlled, the plate hits the table hard and the chopsticks were disturbed, so I didn't use the chopsticks and plates throughout the whole meal. And the coke I ordered halfway after the food was served was forgotten by the waiter. At that time, I don't know what happened at the scene, which made a group of waiters quarrel. Over a period of roughly 20 years, I've determined that the food here is consistently tasty, affordable, and filling. The menu is so incredibly diverse and large that one could probably eat something different here every day of the month and not get burned out. Service attitude seems to be better than ever as of late - service proactivity is still not "top tier", but I think it's probably as good as anyone can realistically expect from a restaurant of this genre. The Beer Bug admittedly has had a mixed impact on the state of this restaurant. Sadly, they're still not open as late as they used to be. On the plus side, I don't think I've had to wait in line for a table ever since early 2020, due to a reduced volume of patrons (or so I seem to have noticed from my recent visits). In any case, this has become one of my more frequently visited establishments, and I certainly appreciate that I still don't need papers get my foot in the door. read more

I'm not sure what happened to Garden. Also not sure what happened to my previous review, but here's another one. Garden used to be consistently good and they were always busy. Many times, we had to wait for a table or even to get our drinks. But on a recent trip, that wasn't the case. We came here in a weekend for lunch. Arrived around 11:30 and only a few tables were occupied. First thing I noticed, the menu has changed completely. It used to have pictures, now it's a standard menu with higher prices. Understandable because of supply chain issues, inflation and wholesale prices gone sky high. We ordered 1) French style filet mignon with special fried rice, which is essentially tomato flavored rice. We asked for medium rare but the beef came near raw. The sauce was absolutely underwhelming, the mashed potatoes were likely powdered and the veggies were diced from a can. 2) Yee-mein. This is a dry noodle dish that was good. Not great, just good. But a plate of dry noodles with some onions for about $15 is overpriced. 3) Steak and shrimp in red wine sauce was a mistake. Again, the steak were raw and the shrimp did not taste fresh, as if it's been in their freezer for months. The shrimp were covered with extra salt to mute that taste. The red wine sauce was bland with no hint of any wine. 4) Angus steak and seaweed fried rice is a dish that's served in a hot iron bowl and stirred table side. It used to be fragrant and tasty. This time the steak were tough and dry like jerky. The milk tea with condensed milk is still a strong drink, and that was probably the best part of lunch. We were glad to see a couple of familiar faces working there and the place brings back a lot of memories of family meals. But it's hard to overlook the dishes we had on our last visit. Been coming on and off for years and we recently came back for a little weeknight dinner with the whole fam. The restaurant wasn't as packed as it use to be, since a lot of their orders are takeout now. Regardless, they were accommodating of our table of 7, all the waiters who helped us and checked in on our table, we're AMAZING & KIND. The menu has shrunk since the pandemic, but they condensed them to their most popular items as well as a special deals book. Food: we always order the classic like grilled chicken steak or pork chops, still affordable for $15 for 2 large chops! (Get the black pepper sauce). Yes, they have slightly increased the prices, but tell me any restaurant who hasn't. Lemon ice tea, I've read quite a few reviews recently complaining about no more refills, so I was pleasantly shocked when the waiter asked DO YOU WANT A REFILL? I couldn't say YES PLEASE fast enough. While we were waiting on the kids to finish eating, another waitress came by and offered another refill and cups Togo, she was the sweetest, I was I had caught her name. Garden Cafe is a classic! I came here quite a bit in high school with my parents, with friends. While visiting home recently, I ordered take out for a friend dinner & picked all of our favorites: *Corn soup (鸡茸玉米湯) #18 - Okay this is one of the "free" soups that come with entrees but we wanted full size portions of this because we like it so much! It's creamy, sweet (from the corn) and savory. *Luo song tang (羅宋湯) #19 - Again, another "free" soup but this is my favorite soup ever. The history and background of this Hong Kong-style Borscht soup went completely over my head as a kid BUT it's absolutely fascinating (look it up!) and delicious. *Seafood xo sauce fried rice!! (XO海鮮炒飯 ) #230 - So savory and umami from the seafood and XO sauce. Yum. *Baked Chicken with Rice (焗鲜茄雞扒) #74 - This probably ended up being my favorite dish of the night and reminded me of my childhood favorite below (#78). There's cheese melted on top with a great tomato-y sauce. The chicken thigh is VERY tender and juicy - per usual! *Beef Chow Fun (乾炒牛河) #194 - Classic cantonese dish - you can't go wrong. I do feel like this dish is a really good value too. There's a lot of pieces of beef and inclusions! *Baked Bolognese (焗肉醬意粉) #78 - This was my absolute favorite dish as a kid. Cantonese-style bolognese has more sweetness than traditional bolognese and they melt cheddar cheese on top! What's not to love?! The ONLY missing dish - as I already over ordered (6 dishes for 4 people!) - is the Baked Sole Fillet with Spinach (over rice is my preference). My husband and i enjoyed coming here for their breakfast. However on Wednesday, the food was not on par. New cook or just laziness. I ordered the Peanut Butter French Toast with sausage . There wasn't much Peanut Butter inside the toast (about half). The sausage looks like it was leftover from yesterday. I was really disappointed. We really enjoyed eating lunch and dinner too. I've been coming here on and off over the years, and it's always been up and down, and when I say up and down, the range is between average quality with decent prices, to bad quality with high prices. Lately it's been more consistently the latter unfortunately. We usually come for breakfast when they would have a main course that comes with some sides and a HK milk tea or coffee that's refillable. The size of the steak is about 2/3 to even 1/2 the size of the steak you get for the same price or cheaper by $1-3 at other HK cafes. Sometimes one of the sides is an omelette that is watery and undercooked. Often service is a problem, even for the standards of a traditional Chinese restaurant like this one. The last time we went, it took over 20 minutes to serve us our drinks, and a lot of the other customers who ordered after us already had their food. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last. Rarely do I see staff smile. There are definitely better HK cafe's around the area with better food, more food, and cheaper prices. read more

I ordered the chicken steak meal which I've tried long ago. It was good with plenty of rice. My wife and son both tried it and agreed my dish was the best. My wife ordered Korean short rib which I thought was strange for it being a Chinese restaurant and is having kalbi the night before. She thought it was okay but definitely didn't taste like Korean kalbi which was obvious. My son ordered the pork cutlet and he said it was good and he definitely finished the large meat and not so much the ramen. The place was crowded on the 5th of July so my only complaint was the slow service. Slow to order food... slow to get attention of a server when my wife ordered an avocado shake that didn't arrive until we had finished our meal and had to mention to our server where the drink was. The lady was nice to follow up on it but it was overlooked in my opinion. No one came to check how our food was so a refill on water and soda took awhile. So if you go there, be wary that the service likely will be slow. One star deducted for the shake and the slow service. Overall, still a place I would go again read more

Came here with my girlfriend on a Sunday evening, not too crowded and we got seated very quickly! We ordered the beef chow fun, Singapore noodles, fish porridge, and Chinese broccoli. Everything was about how you'd expect it to be and nothing blew me out of the water, with the only surprise being that the Singapore noodles were not spicy at all (though I'm sure you could ask them to add some since it's typically made with a bit of spice). Deep fried squid with spicy salt - only about $15 with tax. Most tasty that I've had around the area. I didn't think it was spicy at all, but there are jalapenos. I went during dinner time on a Sunday, it wasn't very busy at the restaurant, but I still had to wait a while. Apparently, many people do call in advance for takeout. But since I didn't want my squid to be cold, I didn't call in advance. As for parking, the lot is not too big, so you might run into a situation of can't find a space.
