This should have been an easy win, but somehow they managed to screw it up. The pastries are eye catching, but there is obviously zero craftsmanship or art in the kitchen. A cute little bakery/cafe in the Rock Rose district. As far as I know, Bakery Lorraine is a relatively new addition to this area. Inside is an open seating arrangement where you order and pay at the counter, and they will hand you your pastries or number for food. There's window-side bar seating, outdoor seating, and two rows of 2-4 person tables. Water and utensils are self-serve. The space inside is bright, and probably perfect for any instagram aesthetic. Lol. Everyone was super friendly. The pastries are reasonably priced for size, quality, and location - sure, it's a little pricier, but it's a small bakery in the Domain. It's hip and trendy and isn't going to be super cheap. The seasonal fruit tart was delicious, and so were the macarons. I was pleasantly surprised by the lunch options at Bakery Lorraine. I assumed they would only have unhealthy lunch and decadent dessert options (not to say that those aren't yummy options, I just happened to be in the mood for a healthy lunch that day). Great spot to catch breakfast/brunch/lunch with a friend or a date! Location is easy to get to. It's located closest to the Red Parking Garage in the Domain. Super quick walk from the garage. Ample outdoor seating!! (Also plenty of seating inside, but if you love the Texas sunshine like me, there are plenty of tables outside!) The macarons were IMO exceptional. The flavors were bold but not overpowering. Great feet and perfect eggshell exterior. Appropriate amount of filling. It was worth the price point for sure. I also got a cinnamon roll, breakfast croissant sandwich (ham) and a chai latte. The chai was FANTASTIC. The cinnamon roll was good, plenty of icing and a soft center, but it was not gooey by any means and I happen to prefer my cinnamon rolls to be super gooey, so it wasn't my favorite but that's a personal preference and not anything bad to say about their cinnamon rolls. The croissant sandwich was meh. The croissant exterior was hard, like there was a decent egg wash on there. It wasn't bad, I just would opt to try something different next time. I love the romantic and airy atmosphere at Bakery Lorraine and the breezy patio. There's a huge number of drool-worthy pastries and baked goods at the front and I love the feeling of choosing one or two from the huge glittering array. The namesake quiche lorraine was amazing and I would come back here for that alone. That said, our other dishes, the red pepper soup, lemon cake, macarons, and s'more tart were all pretty disappointing. Service was really slow too. To me, however, the atmosphere of the bakery compensates for all this and I'd be happy just to come back to get a cup of coffee and sit for a while. read more

Actually, every single thing I got was literally PERFECT. Decided to stop by for a quick caffeination during a stroll around the Domain, and was pleasantly surprised to discover this gem of a place. It's hard to find a bakery that sells caneles and kouign amans, but this place does. The cassis elderberry cake was delicate and delicious. They use quality coffee, which made for a very enjoyable latte. We took advantage of the nice weather by opting for the outdoor seating, which had umbrellas to provide nice shades. On my day off I decided to make a stop here for breakfast before I start my day. I love the easy and limited menu, easier to decide on what I want. I ordered the breakfast plate with scrambled eggs, bacon and whole wheat/grain toast with jam. For my drink, Chai Tea Latte with oat milk. The place is very clean and has a lot of seating indoors and outdoor. I chose to sit on the high table, which was not too high for me (short people problem). While sitting there waiting on my drink and food, I noticed there is a designated person that stands there and cleans off the tables as soon as someone leaves and also assists the servers with bringing out items when needed. The music and noise is just right not too loud and not too soft. As for my food, it arrived at the right temperature. Nothing was cold except for the jam. The eggs were perfect and that bacon was very meaty! I have to bring the hubby here. My toast was tasty, the bread is not thin and too crusty. And that jam, nom nom! I don't know that I can love this bakery or the people in it anymore than I already do. The service and kindness from the staff is just off the charts. Everyone is so sweet to me and my two dogs. For my ailing older dog, this is the highlight of his entire day coming to this place almost nightly. I have tried quite a bit of there desserts and most of their savory menu. While I have my favorites I have never had a bad meal. Yes, it's pricey, but I never walked away feeling like it wasn't worth it. The people watching and atmosphere cannot be beat. Wow! I am totally blown away with Bakery Lorraine. I am a bakery junkie and knew this was going to be one of my first stops while visiting Austin after reading the rave press about their San Antonio location. I visited the Domain at lunchtime and actually didn't know the Bakery had a lunch menu until I saw their sign outside. I decided to give them a try for lunch, and now I'm addicted. The staff was incredibly friendly and able to give me thoughtful recommendations. I decided to try the Chef's Salad (buttermilk dressing, turkey, bacon, avocado, bleu cheese, boiled egg, breadcrumbs). I got the dressing on the side and a side of their shallot vinaigrette, which I would highly recommend! You can tell that the dressings are freshly made. I loved the hearty salad blend. This isn't your standard romaine salad, and the salad is definitely filling. The toppings were fresh and really made the salad a meal. They also have a fantastic variety of sandwiches and homemade soup. I need to try the Red Pepper bisque with a grilled cheese ASAP. With the salad, I ordered a chocolate macaron and Diet Coke. Any place that sells ice cold GLASS Diet Coke is an all-star in my book. I am not the biggest macaron fan, but the chocolate macaron was perfection. Soft and airy cookie with thick ganache filling. The perfect way to end a meal. I was blown away by their pastry selection. It's hard to find somewhere in the US whose pastries, in appearance and quality, rivals a Parisian patisserie, but they have managed to execute this at Bakery Lorraine. It was a Saturday morning and for some reason I didn't think it would be this packed but when the weather is great in Austin everyone and their mama will be at the domain. Beloved San Antonio's Bakery Lorraine is finally in Austin. I've never been to any in San Antonio so this was my first experience all around. The interior is beautiful with lots of natural light coming in. I got several pastries and the sandwich and soup combo. The kouign amann- this was filled with a lemon cream custard??? This is bizarre. Traditionally kouign amanns don't have filling, this should have a sign saying lemon cream kouign amann. It's like buying a croissant labeled just croissant and eating it to realize they had put peanut butter in it or something. This to me was really weird and made me think they don't actually know what a kouign amann should be. Chocolate croissant- good, nothing above or below average. The ghost lemon pie- this was adorable and I liked the chewier texture of this! Macaron- this was awful, it just dissolves into powder in your mouth, macarons are supposed to have some chew to them. Ginger cookie- loved this! chewy and definitely very gingery. The chicken salad sandwich was good, I wish the bread was toasted. Toasting bread or at least having the option always wins points with me. The warm bread would have been a nice contrast to the cold chicken salad. The tomato soup- hands down my favorite thing I got.
