My wife and I have been here twice on Sunday morning and agree that even when it was crowded and the tables fairly close together, it never seemed too loud to carry on a private conversation. I am a huge fan of brunch food, and bakery Lorraine offers amazing breakfast-brunch type food. The vibe is really chill and their service staff are really courteous and helpful! The food was so good! I was skeptical at first as the price is a little pricey for me, but the portions are pretty big, and the quality is really good. Their coffee is decent, but my friend really likes their tea. I really appreciate that they provide paper straws instead of plastic, and use paper bags instead of plastic. Would definitely recommend this place for brunch lovers. read more

As a pastry and bakery lover, it excites me to see a new spot open near my home. Especially one with such a great reputation as Bakery Lorraine. My husband and I showed up for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The place is really pretty, looks like a french cafe. The pastries and baked goods were all beautiful and we decided to grab a baked good, some coffee and a pastry for later. My latte was fine. Seemed like a bit too much foam, but the taste was good. My husband was pleased with his cappuccino and loved the warmed up cinnamon roll he ordered. I got a basic croissant as it is my favorite baked good and how I like to judge a place. It was just OK. Maybe it doesn't help that I had one of the best croissants in my life the past week, but the croissant tasted old. It could've used a light heating at the very least, but that wasn't offered. Instead, it wasn't very flaky and was slightly cold. I wasn't impressed. What did impress me, though, were the pastries we ate later that night. My husband ordered a chocolate tart that had brownie chunks on it. It was super rich and really, really good. But I don't know if it was as good as the red velvet cake I ordered. It was a fancy sliver of layers of red cake and white frosting. Somehow it was light and fluffy and took all my will-power to eat slowly. I savored the heck out of that thing! Definitely will be back as I am curious about the sammies. It's an odd location in the middle of Rock Rose, which seems like a party area and not a breakfast spot. The artwork is unique and the place feels modern and airy. The staff is incredibly helpful and makes great recommendations. Their dark chocolate sea salt donut is literally to die for. It's moist, the chocolate glaze is subtle and the sea salt is a perfect portion. The macaroons are also perfectly done with an array of flavors from your basic raspberry to cereal flavored. They also serve Waterloo and Austin Eastcider to bring a little local love to their menu. They serve breakfast as lunch! read more

I really wanted to like this place. Clean, light, modern interior. Delicious sounding menu items. We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and ordered the White Grits and Croque Madam. The grits came out first after a brief wait. Beautifully presented with a sunny side up egg on top. BUT it was lukewarm at best. We took that back up to the counter. No arrival of the Croque! A few minutes later the grits came back not any warmer but edible. No Croque still! Another few minutes and finally the Croque came out with an apology for the delay. Again beautifully presented with a slight broil mark on the bechamel sauce. BUT this was barely warm too!! Flavor wise, it was all good but they need to get their act together and deliver their food hot with the entrees at or near the same time. I hate to say it but with as many great places to go in Austin, it's highly unlikely we will go back. read more

First, this place overall has excellent food. Their pastries are very delicious. I have had every one of their sandwiches and each one was spot on. And their tomato soup. Secondly, their service is a bit lacking. Though overall they seem nice, sometimes their interpersonal skills are awkward or non-welcoming. I am sure they are working through some training since they are so new. Lastly, they are not the quickest. Myself and colleagues have gone many times and again it seems like they are still getting organized because it looks like everyone is running into themselves trying to figure out stuff. A simple OJ to go took almost 30minutes. I think they just forgot but were not very apologetic. I would recommend focusing on customer service and operational excellence. This guys was in SUCH a rush, and kept trying to end our order by saying 'okay and will that be all'. He was even speaking so fast, and it felt like he was pestering us to finish our order in a rush, mind you it was our first time here, and he didn't care to ask or to help us through the menu. The pastries are bad, the service is just okay. I've been here twice, I decided to give them a second chance because it is a very cute bakery and the pastries are beautiful, but it's still not good. First the service: I was in front of two people, one of the three people at the counter took my order while the other two stood there - I just got pastries, already made in the case next to me, and they said it would be right out. They then took the order of the person behind me, also just pastries, and they got them for her while she was at the register, she paid and left with her pastries. Same with the next person. I waited through them getting the orders for the two people behind me before they started getting my order together. Why? it was weird, and kind of rude. Second, the pastries themselves: Not good. The lemon cake I got tasted stale, and the meringue was grainy. The macarons I got were weirdly flavourless, they tasted like sugar and food colouring - the way a food tastes when too much food colouring has been put in - but not at all like the flavours they were supposed to be. I've had macarons from the frozen section of Trader Joes that were better. All in all it was disappointing. It's a cute place, but I wouldn't get the food there :/ read more

This spot is very Instagram worthy & is how I found this place actually. I loved their outdoor seating, chairs and tables were cute & clean. Pets are also welcome in the outdoor seating. Employees were very helpful and welcoming. I picked out 6 Parisian macarons which was $13. The flavors I chose were cookies & cream, pistachio, earl grey, chocolate & strawberry. All very delicious but my favorite would be the earl grey which is surprising because I'm not a big earl grey fan but the flavor was not overpowering and it was a settle touch! My boyfriend picked out a chocolate chip cookie which was $3, I wish they warmed it up! I got a mocha which was $4.10 and my boyfriend got a latte for $3.75. The mocha was delicious and was a good size for me. The mural on the side of the building is a cute Instagram background as well. read more

I was enamored with their pastries and their hot chocolate. We stopped in and ordered the chocolate sea salt and blueberry pie doughnuts. Both were surprisingly soft and delicious even late in the afternoon as it was. We also ate the canele and kougin aman. The hot chocolate tasted as if it were made with ganache, so it was rich and indulgent as it should be. So, why the two star rating? Well, we returned days later to satisfy my craving for the chocolate sea salt doughnuts. We waited to be greeted or helped for a good five minutes. Not bad, if there's a line, right? Unfortunately there wasn't. No reason why the three employees couldn't help us if we were the only ones who needed help. Shockingly, a woman came from the left side of the counter area, walked in front of us, and the guy behind the counter jumped to assist her! We are, by no means, easily offended or hyper-sensitive when it comes to our race, but even we found it hard to swallow being completely ignored and watching the staff jump to help a caucasian woman who cut the line. This is my go-to spot if I want to study near the Domain area or if I want a good brunch with my girlfriends. The view inside and out is very aesthetic - modern & clean. The price is more $$, but it is worth if you are going to treat yourself. There are various types of drink - I like their americano or latte. They also serve various types of delicious macaroons, slices of cake and yummy bakeries. The staff here are usually all very friendly when getting our orders and even when cleaning after our mess. Cute and open inside with lots of seating. A great addition to Rock Rose. I just stopped in to look without actually intending to buy anything because we just ate but I wanted to see if anything caught my eye. I was going to try one macaroon but decided to just go with a box of 6 - I'm so glad I did because they were all delicious. Seriously each one we ate, and I tried all of them was more delicious than the first. These are probably the best macaroons I've ever had. The flavors were perfect and on point. They didn't taste fake either which sometimes is the case with macaroons. I loved them all and my favorite was the earl grey - which was a first for me and the blueberry violent. Had a morning to get some computer work done at the domain. Normally I will hit the Starbucks. But really that is the same old...Parked across the street from Bakery Lorraine. I had been to bakery lorraine a few times in the pearl in San Antonio and was really excited for this one to open up. The first two times I went here I was worried that maybe they wouldn't live up to their expectations. About a month later I tried the domain location out again and MAN, they've got their stuff down now! We bought some Macaroons for a party we were having later that night. We did just one of each flavor, and two of their chocolate cookies. Their cookies have a spice on them, not spicy but they taste peppery in a good way that warms you up. Later on their website I learned it was cayenne SUGAR on top of the cookie. Everyone shared everything at the party because it was that good we all wanted a bite. Food is ok at the best of times. But what really drops this rating is the staff and management. I used to frequent this place a lot more often because my wife worked at one of the retail stores about a block away but it has steadily gone downhill service-wise. I've seen both staff and management get confrontational with guests. Have heard them talking very openly about how much they don't like other businesses in the area, and have even witnessed them be extremely rude with staff from other businesses that have simply come in to get food. I've even heard one of the employees saying they remember who doesn't tip them well enough and won't give good service to that person again. I understand getting crappy tips sucks as I'm also in the service industry. But that's really unprofessional. Hopefully something will change and either get new management or at least get people retrained on how to be professional at a work place. read more

I tried this place for the first time today. I was so excited to see a French style bakery at Domain. I ordered a canele and a rum cake. Both were terrible. The canele looked like it was dipped in chocolate. When I saw it up close to eat it, I saw that this was not chocolate at all. It was nearly blackened from being burnt. I can't believe a bakery wouldn't toss out such burnt food. Instead, it was sold to me with a smile and a correction on my pronunciation of "canele." I was hoping the rum cake would be better. It certainly looked better than the burnt canele. It tasted stale as if it had absorbed other flavors in a refrigerator. I am sooo disappointed.
