They have successfully have never made a proper fish taco. They batter is always coming off the fish. The fist is always the size of my pinky finger. Everything else is tasty. The Guac is not the best in the world. Actually kinda salty. I wouldn't open up a new location until the fish is fixed. So I'm looking forward to connecting with Lee and seeing the good he has done. Bar taco is always my favorite! This time I got to bring the hubs, the best friend and the best friend hubs!! We choose here to celebrate New Years because it's good and it's a great atmosphere! Our server, Matt, was unknowingly hilarious and responded quickly to our every request. The margaritas were on point and as a foursome we ordered the Large Tray and added a couple extra tacos and sides. Perfect amount! All was delicious especially the grilled corn...I recommend getting it "off the cob" though. We also chatted with Todd and he (like Matt) was awesome, personable and very kind. Came here on a Saturday night at around 9pm hungry and ready to eat. Mistake. This place was PACKED. There was about a 30-45 minute wait. (Edit: Manager informs me that you can call ahead about 30mins ahead of when you plan to arrive to be placed on the waiting list. So by the time you get there you'll be almost ready to be seated. But no reservations. Another example of their great service) But...I loved this place. The decor and atmosphere was great. Huge bar, lots of energy, lots of seating. The bar had a good selection of cocktails, wine, and beer. I started with the Guacamole, plantains, and grilled corn. The guacamole was freshly made and delicious. The plantains were surprisingly good; they weren't too firm and perfectly caramelized. The grilled corn was a big highlight of my meal; the spices and cheese on the corn just made it so much more than a regular piece of corn. My friends and I had several of their taco selections: Seasame Ribeye Fried Oyster Baja Fish (fried fish) Veracruz Fish (grilled fish) Curry Shrimp All are made with 1 corn tortillas which were nice and thick and wasn't too overpowering in taste. All of the tacos are really good. If I had to chose my two favorites I would say the ribeye and veracruz. Our server was really good, but our first order of tacos came out a little slow. But when they came out they weren't cold, so I can only assume they were cooking a fresh batch of everything. My only thing is I felt some of the tacos were slightly too expensive for the amount of food you got. My friends left a little hungry and didn't think it would be wise spending more money. Super yum! The first time I went to Bartaco, I had to double back later that week for takeout! Not only is the ambiance like an urban oasis, the food transports you as well. We sat on the patio, with it's Nantucket white and blue color scheme and waitstaff in gingham shirts with white jeans and Chucks, I felt like I was vacationing at a summer beach house. We ordered a selection from the menu, including the Ribeye, Duck, both fish and chicken tacos, pork belly rice bowl, plantains and cucumber salad. My repeat order was the rice bowl and the plantains. The pork belly is charred but not dry, and there's a light vinegary sauce that accompanies the brown rice and julienned vegetables in the bowl. Filling and cheap! The plantains are sweet and deep fried as you'd expect, but there's a spicy coating that elevates them to addictive. Oh, and the drinks are well crafted, strong and novel. I had the citrus-y caipirinha, which melted the day's stresses away with a quickness. After hearing so much about the restaurant, I was excited to try Bartaco for the first time. I went on a Friday around 1 pm and the place was packed! I loved the décor and the indoor/outdoor seating--it just seems like a cool, relaxed place. Since it was so busy, we decided to sit at the bar. The only bad thing about the experience would have to be the service. It took a pretty long time to order anything and even longer to actually get the food (and our whole order never arrived). Anyway, on to the food! We tried the guacamole, which was delicious, but I'm a huge fan of anything with avocado. The chips were pretty tasty; they were baked tortillas (taco shells) with just the right amount of salt. We also tried a variety of tacos including the sesame ribeye, chorizo, cauliflower and curry shrimp. They were small portions but really tasty. (Small portions are great to sample a variety of flavors, but bad when you are starving). We also tried the side of spicy cucumbers. I'll give them a pass on the service since they were slammed and we were at the bar, but I would definitely visit again for some tacos! read more

Being a huge foodie from California I had high hopes for this place with all the amazing reviews.. and they freaking surpassed all expectations with flying colors. I went with friends to eat and we did a huge family style order with basically every taco. The chicken pastor stood out to me the most, the fresh pineapple was AMAZING. I lived in Hawaii for two years so I know some bomb pineapple when I get the chance to eat some. The carne asada was amazing too, and so were the fish tacos! The manager, Jason, came by our table multiple times to ensure we were enjoying our food and that the service was exemplary. It was enjoyable talking to the manager and server about the food. As a foodie that travels, frequents many restaurants and enjoys trying new places, service and happy, knowledgeable food talking staff always stand out in my mind. Their unique variety of tacos, moderate food pricing and food-enthusiastic staff encourage you to share and try much of the menu. I have had the fish, pork belly, chorizo, Portobello, falafel, oyster, shrimp, rib eye and duck tacos - all of them are outstanding. My absolute favorite are the duck tacos - I find myself ordering more when I have finished eating everything else. I can't get enough of them! I also favor the unique falafel, Portobello, pork belly and oyster tacos...yes, I realize I am practically listing everything I have tried - everything is just that delicious! The guacamole is the perfect blend of lime, avocado and spice while not being too hot. The corn with lime, cayenne and cotija cheese is exceptional as is the mushroom mole tamale - you really can never have too much mole - and it is uncommon to find on menus in Atlanta. Bartaco is beautifully decorated (especially the patio). We arrived at Bartaco around 8 & waited about 30 mins for a table, which wasn't too bad for a new restaurant & on a Friday night. Hostesses & servers were very nice. They have a pretty good system going on for ordering: you fill out the order card & clip it to a stand at your table; everything you order on that card comes out whenever they are ready & not in any particular order. If you need a server for something, there's a card that you can clip to the stand so someone can come over to help you. ~mojito - this was the 1st thing I ordered but didn't receive until I was done with dessert... tasted just ok ~grilled corn - this is a side; comes w/ two pieces of corn covered in cheese, lime juice, & cayenne powder - delicious ~duck taco - my favorite; very flavorful & unique ~wild boar taco & sesame ribeye taco - these were good but the duck taco's definitely the best one imo ~pork belly rice bowl - this item never came out; I had to ask our server after we received everything else that we ordered including the dessert; they apparently ran out of pork belly around 9 or so. ~churros & chocolate sauce - delicious! save room for this one! Not sure why I've not left a review for this place yet, I've only eaten here like a gazillion times. I love the tacos, almost all of them. The duck tacos are sent from Heaven. The wild boar is mighty tasty, and both of the fish tacos are delicious. Chips and salsa is good, and their pork tamales are very good. I've taken many friends, and they've always been very happy with their food. This place would get five stars all day long were it not for one aggravating thing- They do not split checks, as they say it's "family-style." I love this place! I love the vibe (kind of a New England-y beach/coastal theme) and how opening up all of the walls creates an enormous amount of outdoor space. I've been several times, and I've never had something I didn't like. When I'm with a small group (3-5), we usually just get the chef's selection and let the restaurant pick for us! Tamales, guac, tacos - it's all good. I'm not a vegetarian myself, but my veggie friends all like it as well. Parking, as with all the restaurants in this area, is pretty much valet only. Visited a couple times in the last month. Each table has an order sheet & pencil (similar to sushi restaurants), and a "bat signal", It's a plastic square with their logo (a dragonfly) on it. That if you raise anyone will come over to see if what you need. My husband thought this was cool and had to try the concept, which did work. Haven't had a taco I didn't like here. The cauliflower, and the ribeye are my favorite. They are small, 2 or 3 bites and your done. Rice Bowls are also great. I've had the duck & the ribeye, once again the sesame ribeye was delicious! Gazpacho was light and refreshing, but chunky(in case that's not your thing) Mushroom Mole Tamale, good, but didn't get a huge mole flavor. Want to try the pork next time. If I were judging this place strictly on atmosphere and decor, it would be 5 stars plus some comets. The place is impressively beautiful and whoever was in charge of interior decoration needs to model my future home. However, based off of the food, it was okay. Like other reviewers, I do understand that it is a new restaurant so any of these early reviews should be read bearing that fact in mind, including mine. That being said, let's get to the highlights: Guacamole: Average guac. Nothing to really complain about, but nothing to rave about either. Would've preferred a little bit more flavor. Spicy chorizo taco: Was very tasty, but incredibly small. I thought $7 for 3 tacos was a great deal until I saw the size of the tacos. But, if it were solely based on taste, I can't say anything negative. Ceviche: A little different than what I'm used to. It's shrimp ceviche with sliced red and yellow peppers and onions. Personal preference, I would've liked the vegetables to be diced because the size of them were a little overwhelming. I think it could overall use a little more citrus flavors whether that be lemon or lime. It fell a little flat for me. Pork tamale: The pork itself was a little too fatty for me. I did like the overall texture of the tamale though. With this, I wished there were a bit more flavors as well. A little one-dimensional and just not exciting enough for my taste buds. As it is now in its early stages, I would go back here again for a drink (they had a wide range of margaritas that I unfortunately did not try) because again, the vibe and atmosphere is impeccable. I did not have a good experience here my first time, however after speaking to management they changed my mind about Bartaco and showed me how good of an experience it can be. Everything we had was delicious...my only warning is that the tacos are small so for a grown adult I would recommend 4-6 as well as a side or two to share. The margaritas are great since they are made fresh and they dont use the fake mix but actually squeeze real lime juice in the drink. Lastly, everything is made from scratch every day and they even sell their hot sauces which we purchased so we could enjoy it at home. You can also call 30 min ahead and put your name in so your in person wait is not as long which can be useful since this place is very popular and it is not unusual for there to be over an hour wait regardless of your party size. I can now say I will for sure return here after management did right by me and I was able to eat some delicious food. read more

I'm OBSESSED with Bartaco. I literally can't think of a complaint other than how packed it always is, which is nothing to really complain about, but rather a sign of a wildly popular restaurant. And that it is! We always just get there and post up at the bar for a margarita while we wait. The margaritas are super!! Just a classic margarita that is perfection! I've also heard the mojitos are great, too. This place is so trendy and popular that waiting at the bar is entertaining enough with all of the fun people-watching and chatting with the fun bartenders to do. They have the most incredible patio with couch seating and string lights hanging about that creates the most perfect ambiance. Now the food, that is where this place rises above all the other taqueria type places in Atlanta. You must start with the guacamole. It's fresh and simple and to die for. All of the tacos are worth a try. I always switch it up each time. I'm also a big fan of the rice bowls. It's interesting to find a dish like this at a taco restaurant, but it's so yummy! Finally, the best item on the menu has got to be the churros for dessert. They are heavenly! Seriously, warm cinnamon, sugary churros served with a chocolate dipping sauce.... I highly recommend the small chef tray for two people; it was more than we could eat (and I typically do some damage to tacos). Duck was definitely my favorite of the six we tried, and you have some very unique options. Their style of service is also different; you have a card that you display if you need something from your server, although they do a very good job of keeping an eye on things without your help. Really lives up to its hype. With a vibrant and lively atmosphere, this is the perfect spot for a sunny afternoon lunch. Whoever designed it did a fantastic job of transporting you to a pier, which we need in this land locked city. The tacos pack a wallop of flavor and the craft cocktails are the perfect compliment. I could stand for a larger taco (because they taste so good) but overall I was very pleased with my meal. I highly recommend the baja fish, the sesame ribeye (which is mega tender) the curry shrimp and the pork belly. The duck and the wild boar, I'll pass. Order up some Churros (share them, they're huge) and if you're really up for it, pair it with the coconut ice cream (they get it from Jake's/yay local!). Came here for a wedding rehearsal dinner - college roommate was getting married and this place is near the venue they picked. Nice tacos and small plates. I really liked the duck preparation and whatever sort of mole glaze they used on it. Margaritas were strong enough to feel, and in a crowd of old friends that's what you want right? They were pretty slammed when we were there, and it was a large party, but even by Atlanta standards the service was slow. I'd come back at an off peak time next I'm in the ATL. Oh, and the churros. I met up with a friend here for drinks and a small bite to eat. The atmosphere was very chill and the staff was just as cool. We sat at the bar and our extremely friendly bartender asked if I had dined there before and then explained how to order. I love the concept of having no pressure to decide what you would like to eat and if they get the order wrong chances are it was the customers mistake . The tacos are tiny so if you are hungry be prepared to order a few menu items. All the tacos were filled with fresh ingredients and you can choose from several sauces that are all available at the bar or at your table depending on where you sit. I had the shrimp Tacos and the Mahi Mahi taco both were good far from the best I've had but definitely more on the healthier side than most Mexican spots . I also ordered a Romaine salad which was a nice size and absolutely delicious the dressing they used stole the show. The drinks are awesome I had Margaritas. I've been here a couple of times since it opened. The atmosphere reminds me of a beachy restaurant out in California. The restaurant has complimentary valet or you can park in a parking garage about a block away. They don't take reservations but you can call ahead and they will put you on a wait list. The seating is a little tight - it's a pretty intimate setting with some of the side tables being maybe two feet from the next. We ordered the chips and salsa verde which was pretty good - big enough for two people to share, at most. We also ordered a mixture of tacos including the chicken, spicy chorizo, duck, fried oyster and curry shrimp. My favorite was the chicken - so much so that we ordered another. The tacos are pretty small but tasty. In addition, we ordered the corn on the cob and spicy cucumber salad. I think the best side item on the menu (hands down) is the corn on the cob - two pieces of corn on the cob with cayenne pepper and cotija cheese. .. Seriously, try it..and bring floss! Just so you are aware, you are not able to split checks here which is pretty inconvenient if you are in a large group (or even splitting with another couple). You are able to tell the server what amount to charge on each card which can be a pain because you have to tally up each order yourself. read more

This little gem is one of my favorite places to go in West Midtown. Fresh and delicious ingredients, hand-crafted cocktails, fun and casual atmosphere, and fast and friendly service. I haven't been disappointed - and I hope I never will be. It's obviously gotten a lot busier as they gain more fame, so you can't expect to sit down right away on a Friday or Saturday night. I usually come here during the non-conventional lunch/dinner hours, so I never really have a problem getting seated quickly. Aside from the super friendly services, I love that they give you "taco chips" for free tacos as an incentive to return. Genius and simple idea! The staff is also very team oriented by helping each other out, regardless if you're their table or not. You also order "sushi style" by writing on the menu how many items you want of each. And if you need some attention, you just put your blue Bartaco card on the stand. My favs are the guac (duh), Portchester Reviver (cocktail), margarita, and the sesame ribeye rice bowl (brown rice, meat, onions/peppers). My only complaint is that the portions are small and overpriced, so a party of 4 people can EASILY rack up a $100 bill (with drinks). For that, we do not come here as often as we'd like. But I would still recommend it to anyone looking for fun atmosphere with good food. read more

This place was the epitome of what every restaurant wants but few actually have: 5 star environment, service, and food! The environment was clean, well maintained, and meticulously branded. The service blew me away, multiple people checked in to our table about our experience, glasses stayed filled, the restaurant culture was clearly cast with vision and detail. The food, everything we ordered was delicious, you can tell the menu had been carefully crafted from the tacos, the side dishes, the sauces, the cocktails, the desserts, the garnishes, EVERYTHING was well planned and paired incredibly well together. A couple of other random things that pushed our experience over the top: --I saw servers wiping down silverware for their section, who does that anymore? It was awesome to see that he cared that much about his customers to prepare in advance for them. --Normally most restaurants have dirty floors under the tables or in random corners . . . not here! This place was super clean. --The servers seemed genuinely happy to be working there and providing the best possible experience for guests. --A corporate trainer was there helping to make sure standards were being upheld and new servers were getting the same training as others did when the restaurant opened. Most restaurants open, work on the experience for a month and then let the restaurant be on its own. Not here, excellent customer experience is obviously a priority for Bar Taco. read more

The lowest review I could give on yelp. They served my assistant who happens to be 5 years sober a lemonade which he ordered. Expect the bartender who made the drink took it upon herself to add alcohol to the drink. After we made an inquiry regarding the taste of alcohol in the drink we were told that no there is no alcohol in the drink and that perhaps he had never tasted fresh made lemonade. Several minutes later the manager came over to apologize because there was alcohol in the lemonade that was served. As much as he could apologize for the mistake that was made, it was too little too late. This type of mistake is not acceptable! In this age of online reviews the way to make establishes accountable is to post your experience with the establishment. Would have love to have had our lunch there but the staff seems to have taken it upon themselves to make judgements as to what they think is best for the customers. I would like to know that those responsible were fired, however I doubt in the end any action is taken. As for my assistant, still 5 years sober but emotions and concerns about the experience have him stressed out and concerned. Would I recommend this place to families NO! This place has one of the best tacos in Atlanta. Usually is place is always packed but this time we went much later at night on a weekday and the wait for only five minutes. We ordered the cauliflower, pork belly, seared swordfish, pork carnitas and roasted duck. We also ordered guacamole with chips, beet and goat cheese salad and pork tamale. The guac and chips were fresh and flavorful. The tamale was good. Every taco was exceptional and I highly recommend the pork belly, roasted duck and pork carnitas. The sauces in the tacos were unique and gave so much flavor to the tacos. The beet and goat cheese salad was a great palate cleanser in between different types of tacos and I highly recommend it.
