First time dining at bashi. Easy to get reservations, and would recommend outside seating. We made it to happy hour which is daily from 4-6. Didn't order anything off the menu, which no longer includes sushi (outdated yelp reviews stated it did). Just a handful of cocktails and appetizers but nothing catchy to us. We had the rainbow roll, with spicy tuna inside. The sushi on top of the roll killed it, was very chewy, and complete opposite of what I was expecting. The whole deep fried snapper was outstanding, when cooked correctly (first one came out Halfway cooked and raw inside). We waited another 20-30 mins for a new one, but who could mind the wait when you have such a spectacular view. The drinks eased the time of course. We ordered The Collins, and loved the fresh lychee and lemongrass garnishes. The shaking beef looked interesting and popular, served on a hot sizzling dish. The kids ordered the chow mein with chicken, that tasted overly salty and saucy they didn't seem to love it. Ordered an additional rice roll and they ate the inside of course lol. Overall the service was good, servers constantly coming out with dishes, and checking in. Food wasn't out of this world amazing, but simply just good and would come back for the ambience more than the food. Visited for the holidays and ordered Nigiri octopus sushi, garlic noodles, string beans, fried rice, shaking beef, and their whole fried striped bass. Not bad and somewhat inventive cuisine even for a modern day fusion restaurant such as this. Very SoCal interpretation of Asian (with maybe a whiff of spa) cuisine. The dumplings and ribs were quite ordinary but eggplant and okra stew and signature noodle dish were very good. All the food was overly salty even by American Asian restaurant standards we've ever encountered anywhere. The Cali roll is $13 for 8 pieces and it's decent but nothing mind blowing. My son got a Shanghai style garlic noodles with chicken added which ended up costing $25. It was a bit overdone on the soy sauce. The kids chicken teriyaki bowl looked like the frozen fried pieces of chicken they sell at Trader Joe's to make orange chicken with teriyaki sauce on it. I mean, who does teriyaki chicken with little fried pieces of chicken?Weird. I know, I forgot the pics! I guess I was more focused on going the food was worth it. I joined a party of 6 on a Saturday evening on 5/18/19 to celebrate a late Mother's Day. The bad news being here was an event and there wasn't a whole lot of free parking. The girls that meet the cars try to steer you to the valet parking as they charge you. We had to ask if we could park in the free parking and luckily there was an open slot. With that being said, I do have to say the food was pretty good. The standout dishes were the salt and pepper shrimp and the sizzling shaky beef. Both had good flavor and the beef was so very tender. My husband and I decided to go here this past Valentines weekend. We started with the shishito peppers, which we both enjoyed. For our main course, we ordered the seabass and risotto special. Unfortunately, we both decided to order the same thing which was a huge mistake. The fish came breaded in a weird pie crust, then smothered in a white gravy. It was served on top of uncooked risotto which looked more like scrambled eggs than anything else. There were random beets thrown to the side which didn't really seem like they belonged with the dish at all. We were quite disappointed with the food considering the price point for it. 3.5 stars to be exact. This restaurant is located inside a hotel in Terranea. You're really paying for the nice view when you dine in PV. You can choose to sit out in the patio with heat lamps or inside. There's a very small bar inside. ~FOOD~ We had the pork fried rice, shaking beef and shrimp garlic noodles. -Pork fried rice: The pork was super crispy, almost like pork grind. I liked it but it might be too hard for others. (Don't break a tooth!) The rice itself was moist and flavorful. 3 stars -Shaking beef: Served with grape tomato and a side dish of lime juice. The beef was tender and flavorful but I really didn't care for the lime juice. 3.5 stars -Shrimp garlic noodles: I personally enjoyed this dish quite a bit because it was flavorful and I love noodles. The shrimp was fresh and juicy. Lots of garlic was prepared with this so be sure to have breath mints after. Some may say this taste like Panda Express noodles. =P Well, it's a bit more flavorful than PE. ^_^ 4 stars. ~DRINKS~ I had the Perfect pear cocktail. It taste kinda strong and gingery. Great food, great service, spectacular views. Today is Bashi's opening day (at the former location of Terranea Grill, next to Catalina Kitchen). I think this type of cuisine is exactly what Terranea Resort needs. "Bashi" translates to "bridge", my server told me. Appropriate, because Terranea is my bridge to paradise on any day & I head down there frequently for lunch. It's a peaceful mini-vacation from traffic & everyday stress. Nothing seems wrong when I'm there, immersed in SoCal's beauty. I hesitated to try a new restaurant on their very first day, but glad I did. My server recommended the Crispy Walnut Shrimp ($14). Several large, perfectly-cooked shrimp with melon & tender candied walnuts in a light cream sauce.....were delicious. I also had a bowl of good Miso Soup ($5). Both the food & drink menus had interesting selections. I look forward to eating my way through that menu on future visits. Bashi was open today only for lunch, but will have regular hours for lunch & dinner beginning tomorrow. Their Director came to my table to shake my hand & asked how I had discovered his new place. I noticed the sign when I was at Terranea yesterday, I told him. I'm not getting anything done the past couple days, hanging out at Terranea. Came here on Chinese New Year's Eve, and we had ah-mazing time. I want to give them 99 balloons for the attentive service and a big thumbs up for their innovative menu. Fusion isn't for everyone, it all depends on what one likes. I liked some of their dishes, but not sure about some of the others. Loved the shaking beef, we ended up ordering another one. Ha gows and chicken dumplings were delicious, I'm still thinking about them now. The rice with crab plus an egg in the middle was just a bit of on the sweet side for me. Very wholesome kid's meal...now only if the kid would embrace that! The cocktails and wine were just ok, but overall, this is a great place for that special occasion. I really appreciate the special touch with the Chinese New Year menu and the little gift bag filled with sesame candies and pickled fruit given to us at the end of the meal. Shaking beef and rib platter was too salty, drenched in soy sauce + other seasonings to cover up their use of poor quality meats. Look, I like this place. The patio, the bar, the menu--all good. I ordered a rainbow sushi roll, which was good. But on some recos from some Yelpers, I also ordered the garlic noodles. Do NOT make the same mistake. Oh, they're somewhat tasty. But they have so much garlic, it's just over the top. Not just several whole cloves of garlic, but a ridiculous amount of chopped garlic. It was everywhere--clinging in clumps to every onion and pepper. it overpowered all the other flavors. This is flat-out lazy cooking and makes me a bit reticent about coming back and trying more. On the plus side, the guy behind the bar (Zach) was exceptional. As a former restaurant worker, I can say he knew his stuff and showed passion a real for what he does. I would first of all like to say the restaurant definitely exceeded my expectations! The flavors on every dish was great and certainly did not regret a single dish we ordered. We ordered the honey walnut shrimp, Salt and pepper shrimp, Duck Salad, A dragon roll, Tuna roll, Brussel Sprouts with sausage & rice vinegar, Shaken Beef, Crab fried rice, Tuna on top of crispy rice. This great experience was could not have been possible without Sarah Monico. She was very attentive and explained all the flavors and pairings with the different dishes that would compliment each other. We came here on Sunday night of Labor Day Weekend to enjoy a nice meal with friends. We wanted to start off slow as we didn't want a huge heavy dinner and decided to go to Bashi since Catalina Kitchen only had the buffet. The menu was very refined, but the food was terrible. We did not have the best service either! We were seated outdoors and it seemed like the waitress forgot about us after placing the order. We did not get refills for half an hour even though food came out. The food was brought out one by one, in 10 minute intervals, which was very strange since they were "Shareable" dishes and you would assume they would be eaten together or at least the dumplings would be brought out first since they were in the appetizer section. We ordered a tuna poke bowl ($20), the shanghai GARLIC noodles with shrimp, and the chicken dumplings. The only thing that was edible were the dumplings with a spoonful of chili oil on top. The noodles, called garlic noodles, had 0 garlic in them and tasted exactly like panda express noodles. They should be called chow mein and I'm almost 100% sure they are somehow premade and from the same manufacturer of panda express noodles/seasoning etc. There were no veggies in the noodles, just 4 shrimp and OIL OILY Noodles. We all felt terrible after eating it. The poke bowl was an embaressment and disappointment. We asked for the peanuts and masago on the side, since we've never seen peanuts in a poke bow?! There was one tiny scoop (3 spoon bites) of poke in the bowl with one bite of avocado (not a 1/4 of an avocado, not half not anything!!!!). We got the poke with wonton chips, since we thought the chips would be easier to scoop and share, NOPE!!! They were stale, bland and fried in some disgusting oil that just tasted bad and crumbled when I tried to scoop one of the three bites of tuna! Since we were dousing the wontons with chili oil to make them more edible, we needed water and got no refills over and over. We also barely got one refill of diet coke and their iced tea. Service was poor, even though they were not busy and they didn't seem to care that we were unhappy with the food. They noted our names down, along with phone number, when we first sat down, which makes me think they might have had issues with customer service in the past and might have given us a call about our experience. All in all, we will not be returning to Bashi again and having doubts about Terranea itself as well. Definitely not a luxury experience at a luxury resort..... read more

My visit to Bashi was truly an experience I will not forget. Mainly because I didn't have to worry about the bill, hahaha, thanks to my awesome friends! But my experience at Bashi was really breathtaking. First things first, the Terranea resort is gorgeous. The location of this resort is unbelievable, and the beautiful scenery truly topped of my visit. But enough of my affection for the resort, I'm here to review Bashi. The restaurant itself is just as visually delightful as the rest of the resort. Very tasteful and the overall restaurant has a fantastic vibe, perfect for dates, casual dinners/lunches and business luncheons. The food was fantastic! Some of my favorite dishes were the hoisin bbq ribs, of course the sushi rolls and finally the walnut shrimp. But some of the other dishes my group ordered was just as good, such as the chicken dumplings and the chicken lettuce wraps. Bashi definitely has the template for a fantastic restaurant, and I hope to come back to Bashi very soon. Although it is a bit pricey you'll be rewarded with fantastic food and a view to die for. Want to enjoy a nice day or date along the beautiful coast of California?! Well, this is the spot! The drive there is a beautiful view as well. It's located right in the Terranea Resort, which I definitely wouldn't mind "vacationing" there for the night. (Perfect for a date!) It was a bit chilly when I went for brunch, but it is supposed to be almost winter in Cali. The hostess was nice enough to put one of the heat lamps next to me, while I got to enjoy the sunny-chilly weather with my food. The best thing is, if you go around 2pm-4pm, that's when happy hour is happening. The small dishes are all pretty good. My friends and I got the calamari and shisito peppers as starters. Bashi is a Japanese/Southeast Asian restaurant serving family style dishes. We tried a variety of their sushi and their fried rice. The food tasted amazing and service was well. I recommend trying this restaurant during your stay, but beware it is the most impacted restaurant, book your reservation ahead of time. We had to check for reservations there several times till we could snag one. Should our stay have been longer, this restaurant would have been at the top of the list for a second go around. read more

My husband and I dined here last Saturday night while staying at Terranea. We were appalled by the entire experience. There was a table of about 10 men and they had their kids with them - about 10 or 12 kids in total. The men were drunk and were shouting drunkenly. The kids were racing around the restaurant and out into the hallway and back. Our reservation was at 7:45pm and we were hungry, so decided to stay and when the server asked if we would like to move outside we gladly accepted. The disappointment continued with the food, however, which was mediocre at best. The California roll was actually appalling in how awful it was. Went there 3 weeks ago with a Terranea gift card. Got there around 4:30 on a Sunday as this place gets busy. Beautiful location! They have a very nice menu although a bit pricey. Had several dishes however there were a few that I would not get again as portions really small!! The garlic noodles were plentiful and the beef dish was very tasty. Liked the sea bass also.
