We tried Blu Jam Cafe for breakfast and the experience was great. The employees here were very friendly and approachable to any questions and concerns we had. The manager was especially was very nice in helping us figure out the parking validation, as we had trouble leaving the parking garage after our meal. Everything we ordered tasted delicious and freshly made, but I will say the wait time to receive your food can be long. Dishes came one by one and while 3 of what we ordered came at a fairly reasonable time, the 4th dish took longer than the rest, odd. I had the French toast churros, and they were delicious, although I will say they are on the sweeter side, so the first few bites will taste good, but it might be too sweet for a breakfast choice. The complimentary strawberry crepe that was give to everyone was delicious and flavorful, I liked it! The rest of our party enjoyed their breakfast entrees as well, everything was freshly made and flavorful. The pricing here is quite high, but considering the area, you can't expect it to be cheap. In terms of service, be ready to order through a QR code menu or the front register, which does ask for a tip at time of order. You can leave a tip at the register after the fact, too. Blu Jam Café is the perfect place for a ladies brunch, a catch up meeting, a casual yet delicious café where it feels safe and down to earth and you are surrounded by lovely people! I went to Blu Jam for a meeting with my girls and loved every bit of this experience. I'd been to the one in Studio City but it's always packed so there's usually a wait. I guess people around Melrose don't wake up as early so we had a fabulous table and the always great service at our disposal. We ordered the best things on the menu and omg, they did not disappoint. The soup was spectacular and my eggs. We're cooked to perfection. It was a lot of food so we ended up with doggie bags to enjoy later. Loved being there enjoying such great tasting brunch. Yum! I ordered the "Simply Eggs" breakfast. I was brought French toast without notes or comment by the waitstaff. So I went to the counter to sort that and they agreed to bring me what I ordered. When the group I was with was mostly finished, my order finally arrived, cold. Once again the very friendly manager offered to have it fixed and I accepted. The third and final time I was brought my order (well after my party was finished eating) my over easy eggs were fried hard. I appreciate that the manager had no issue refunding the meal, but I'll never be back nonetheless. So, if you just need calories head on in. But if you want a cafe where they are capable of making eggs, look elsewhere. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic - a brunch spot that is incapable of making eggs. read more

First I'd like to say I wish yelp gave you the option to give half stars because I would give them 3.5 not 3. The highlights first, the chilaquiles are so good, the chicken tinga flavor was delicious and I loved the serving size. I will say it's very wet so the chips were a little too soggy for liking but I got a side of chips and it was great. My wife ordered the Benedict's and she said they good! The French toast was okay in my opinion. Service is non-existent because you order from the QR code. I got the blt and the bread was coated in butter as well as the side potatoes were great but very buttery. I would order the BLT again no buttered bread. The rest aunt was great lots of area to sit indoor and outdoor. We went on a Saturday at 10am and did not need to make a reservation and lots of street parking options. The lines around Blu Jam are not crazy now- except for Sunday Brunch. So I assumed the food has lost its edge But a friend who has been travelling world really wanted to go so we went. I have to say the food was excellent. Really fresh, made with love and great portions if you're hungry. To be this good takes a little while to cook to order, not just microwave. They gave us a wonderful amuse-bouche to share whilst we waited for food we actually ordered and had to pay for...A small pancake with jam (which is delicious and fruity and I'm a jam snob). Blu Jam Café has been one of my go-to brunch places for years. They have a bunch of creative and tasty options, key among them is the Crunch French Toast, which comes with this delicious vanilla bean sauce (which is a sauce made from vanilla beans, not one that mixes vanilla and beans). I suggest ordering this with a couple eggs. Though it's not the only good thing on the menu. I also like their Chilaquiles and the Breakfast Pasta. Also, their coffee drinks are really good, especially their iced lattes. As for the place itself, it's clean, has nice high ceilings, and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Though it still manages to get crowded on the weekends. The staff is also nice, and the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. It's also easy to park, relatively speaking (it is Melrose, after all) My only complaint, and it doesn't keep me from going, is that I prefer how it used to work pre-pandemic. Back then, you'd get seated, a waiter would take your oder, etc. Now, you either have to use an app while sitting at a table, or you have to order at the counter and then sit down. Maybe I'm just an old fool, but I prefer the old school. But like I said, I've never balked at going there because I prefer to waited on hand and foot like a jerk. I'm not sure if the owner has changed or if they're just trying to cut costs, but the food is still good, even though the menu has been altered a bit. The ambiance feels more like a soccer pub now, but without a full bar, which seems off given the name of the place. The manager was sitting nearby, playing videos at full volume, and while there was soccer on TV, jazz music was playing in the background, creating a confusing atmosphere. This spot used to be bustling, with lines outside at any time of day. It's disheartening to see such a great place decline in some way. The kitchen staff are hardworking and friendly, but I feel like the front team--possibly managers or supervisors--aren't making the best decisions for the establishment. I love the convenience of this method because I don't like being pressured when I can't make a decision fast. I recommend the Churro French Toast, which is absolutely delicious, and the Mocha Latte, which is perfectly balanced and always hits the spot. I tried Blue Jam Café for the first time in West Hollywood and it did not disappoint. We had the Blue Jam Benedict and the Breakfast Burrito with their $5 White Wine Sangrias on Sunday. The service was pretty quick and easy. We were seated immediately, scanned the table for the menu, ordered and paid via the website, and the food was delivered. There was no formal check process or anything. We set on the patio which was also nice. Very casual "seat yourself", order at the counter type of situation, table was ready and waiting for our party of four. You may utilize a QR code to see menu. My Gen X brain prefers a paper menu, very glad for this accommodation. They have specials on the board which I didn't see until after we ordered. It would have been helpful for the person who greeted us to also mention that. We ordered a range of dishes. I was identifying as vegan this day, so I opted for the vegan tostada. My mates' meals included: eggs florentine/benedict, a classic omelet and shashuka. We ordered their signature crunchy french toast to share. We also ordered a ginger-orange juice and a ginger shot. Meals came quickly and were beautifully plated. Kudos to the kitchen! I was completely satisfied with my choice. The tiny diced potatoes, perfectly ripened avocado, all on a crispy tofu bed drizzled with a creamy sauce. This was a huge portion too! It was very good- fresh and light yet substantial. I admit I stole my mate's green salsa to use. Large portion, I even took leftovers home! Everyone was delighted with their meals. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely keep this place in my "when in L.A" rotation. Prices were very fair. I did withold a star because there was no wait service to speak of, and a couple of times we wanted to ask for more salsa, or ask about something, and weren't able to flag anyone down. Also not knowing there were specials, that kind of thing, would have been solved had someone officially waited on us. Maybe this is their business model- like a half- walk-up cafe type of deal, its a bit confusing. Anyway, I did leave a tip because the bussing staff did a wonderful job - so kind and professional. I went here for breakfast with my friend- it was her birthday and we had the best time! They brought out complimentary treats! The food was delicious. The star of the show was seriously the chai. When my friend and I took a sip, we both looked at each other and were like omgggg. Amazing. Ashley and the rest of that staff were super nice! The owner sat me and was friendly, and I was excited to eat here. I had come here a few times when I first moved to LA, but was disappointed with the experience. The owner said I could either order from the app or order at the register because there were no servers to come to the tables, but said that the staff would check in on me. I asked for a straw, and he said he'd get one, but never came back. I had to go up to the counter and help myself, even though there were multiple food runners and "servers "on the floor who were supposed to check in on us... then when me and my friend tried to order through the app, it was a pain to even do that...you had to sign in, then get an authentication code, etc. My friend's food came to the table, but I had to wait 10 probably 15 minutes for mine. Nobody checked in on us, nobody came to refill the pitcher of water, which remained empty for the majority of the meal. Then finally I got up to ask a food runner for the food, he looked like a deer in headlights confused, and he went back to the kitchen. A few minutes later, the owner brought me the food and did not even apologize. I said to him it's been like more than 10 minutes, and he shrugged his shoulders, gave a "what do you want me to do about it" look, then walked away, and then started talking to another table with kids, laughing and relaxing with them. To top it all off, we had to choose to tip prior to even having finished the meal when we ordered on the app..which as a former server left me questioning why leave a tip when no server was there for us. I wouldn't have left anything to be honest, but seeing that I had to leave the tip in the app when I ordered my own food and had to jump through hoops just to do that...its honestly shitty all around. Tips come from good service, and I would not consider the service good. Probably won't be back and was taken aback by the owners flippant, nonchalant attitude about the food coming late ; having worked at multiple restaurants as a server, from causal to fine-dining, unless you are a novice and day 1 server in training, you never bring a 2 top without both meals...waiting 10 to 15 minutes when the restaurant was not that packed is ridiculous. Had I not gotten up and checked for my food myself, nobody would have checked on us and it would not have come hot. Since nobody had checked on us before the food, I had to check for myself. With multiple food runners it did not make any sense to me. The person who dropped off my friend's food didn't even tell me mine was on the way, and nobody checked in on us after that. I hate to leave reviews like this having been a server, but the owner could have at least had a better attitude.
