This is a Asian restaurant located in Chinatown, run by Asians, who have been working there for many many many years. Shouldn't expect three course meals type menu. You'll get Asian restaurant service and Asian quality food. Never been disappointed since date back many many moons ago. This place is famous for their "old water duck" - 老水鴨. But my favorite dish is off menu, "Curry Beef Tendons with (Haw Fun) flat noodles". I love tendons. And so far, I had try other restaurants and yet to date can't match their beef belly stew / tendons. It's perfectly cooked. It's soft and tenders. Unlike others, where biting down on the beef tendons seem like I have to fight with it. And their curry sauce is one of a kind that I have not yet tasted anywhere else. This is genuine Teow Chew or Chiu Chowfood. The egg noodles are el dente, fresh made and cooked when you order them. I loved the beef and, the beef tendon soup which is one of the best in the US. The fish noodles I could pass, but the bean sprouts and gravy underneath were great. Overall the food here was very tasty and authentic but they do use noticeable amount of msg which I took a star off for this very bad practice. read more

Absolutely cant go wrong here, and I think the staff its actually nice and chatty.. maybe only in Cantonese though. My review is going to be about the one and only dish I ever get here: country style duck with flat rice noodle. I just love love love the flavor, and it pairs nicely with flat rice noodle. I don't know how to describe the flavor to those that haven't tried, but I do have one suggestion to you: TRY IT! Customer service is not the best here, but I don't care as long as I get my duck. Unforunately, my most recent dine in experience here was so disappointing. My boyfriend and I both got the country style duck over flat rice noodle. When the waitress brought our food over, I noticed that my bowl had a lot less duck than his and the broth was also a lot lighter in color. My bowl tasted completely bland, duck and broth both! And the duck pieces I got weren't even the fleshier bits even though I got so little. :( I usually finish the duck and noodles at around the same time, but this time I ended up having a bowlful of noodles left still after I already finished my duck. I guess they tried to make up for my lack of duck by giving me extra noodles. Despite the bad experience, I do recommend this place. I still love the country style duck when it's made and served properly. I think it's safer to go earlier. In the past when I went for lunch, it's always been yummy. The most authentic noodle shop in Chinatown. They have a huge selection but I seem to always get the same thing which always taste just as good as the last time. They have the BEST duck...I might even dare to say that it's better than Peking Duck House. 3.5/5 My grandma was dying for a HK style cafe, at least something that's comparable to the stuff we get in Markham. This place came close enough in my opinion (and shared upon in my family). There's probably some better ones, but for the price we paid it did the trick for a quick lunch bite. We had the Cambodian noodle, beef brisket noodle with tomato soup, and fish ball noodle. The beef brisket noodle was the standout for me, however what would've made it better is if they used the noodle for the Cambodian one in the beef brisket noodle; I'm not a huge fan of extra wide noodles. The Cambodian noodle, I agree, was a bit bland for my dad's liking. The fish ball noodle did the trick for my grandma who wants to eat something bland...ironic eh? Service was okay, but they really pressure you to purchase more items, which I guess I shouldn't be too surprised cause that's how true HK restaurants operate. We got three bottles of the chili sauce they use to bring back to Canada because they're so good! I got scolded when they served my order with the wrong noodles. Geez. At least they were quick to serve up the right order. But alas, I was sorely disappointed. There were some of the right ingredients - minced meat, pork slices, the noodles... However, taste-wise, it did not come close to what bak chor mee should be like. The vinegar and chilli were missing! In fact, there was not much of a flavor at all, and the noodles were really oily on the bottom. My favorite lunch spot! Unfortunately, I only have a 30 minute lunch break. This place is great! I always get seated fast. They would put like 5 single eaters on one big table so you would be sharing table, which I don't mind at all. My food comes very fast too. There are times I say NO GREEN and yet they still put it in by accident. After that incidence, I make sure I repeat myself loud and clear. But besides that, my food is always good. Stopped by on a Friday night for a dinner date and it was moderately crowded. Noise level was average and the place is clean. FYI this is a cash only establishment so bring cash otherwise you'll be stuck washing dishes. I ordered the beef ball noodle soup and my boyfriend got teo chew flat noodles. We shared a side of fried wontons. I would have liked more meat in my dish but I can't complain for the price. The noodles were slightly chewy and flavorful and they don't leave you bloated. The teo chew noodles have a nice kick of spice to it and I like that they keep the soup separate so you can enjoy the flavors. The fried wontons wouldn't be my go to appetizer as they're on the smaller side but they had a nice crunch to them. We spent about $28.50 including tip. Super affordable. I'd come back every now and then when I'm craving their noodles. read more

Stopped by this recently renovation Chinatown staple to grab lunch one day since I was in the area and was craving something hot for a cold day. I've always walked past this place but never really bothered to step in until I was drawn in by the aroma of beef or some kind of other meat being braised. Service was what you'd typically expect from a restaurant in Chinatown. You get seated once you walk in and offered hot tea. The waitresses are rude and mean. They gave us wrong dish: we ordered chicken but they gave us duck. I didn't find the dish was wrong and i realized it after I ate a bit of it. I love this place from their lemongrass chicken to their rice noodle soups! They have great service, free tea, and available seating during lunch time. For an extra dollar, they throw in more veggies(choi sum). I think that the soups are packed with delicious flavorful broth and very tasty indeed. My sister got a free soup with her rice platter, and she was beyond full, since their rice dishes are large. My mom got the seafood noodle and practically inhaled it, because it was really good(or maybe we didn't eat breakfast). I like their bathroom and the tables are clean. Funny how I took so many photos and I didn't even like it that much. Supposedly Vietnamese, this eatery had 2 pages of various 'pho' which looked good but tasted bland. I ordered the wonton with flat noodle pho. The wonton was mostly wrapper with very little meat filling and broth was rather bland. One of my friends ordered the same but with egg noodle and the broth was more flavorful but tasted more like Chinese noodle soup. I came here for Authentic Vietnamese pho...far from it. The egg rolls lacked flavor as well and nowhere close to Vietnamese style. They serve hot tea in styrofoam cups and that should've been a sign. Service was quick and courteous though so they get 3 stars. Definitely better authentic Vietnamese eateries in this part of Chinatown. Now need to find one or two! read more

While I DO LOVE "whole-in-the-wall-places" - I was not impressed with the flavors and taste of what I ordered - CAMBODIAN noodles aka Hu Tieu Nam Vang - one of my favorite noodle dishes in the world - (best place, hands-down is in Orange County called TRIEU CHAI - you can read my review - http://www.yelp.com/biz/trieu-chau-santa-ana?osq=treui+chai) Fried Egg Rolls were mediocre and came with wilted pieces of cilantro and the bottled sweet red sauce - lame. (Should have been served with red/green leaf lettuce, cilantro, pickled carrots, and house made fish sauce.) UGH Pho is extremely popular but I didn't order it since BO KY is supposed to be known for their Hu Tieu dishes. Hu Tieu comes originally from kuy teav noodle soup, a simple pork based soup and pork broth (while pho is normally beef based broth). Nam Vang, on the other hand is a word that means Phnom Penh, the capital and largest city in Cambodia. So together, the dish is a combination of Cambodian and Chinese flavors, with a rich history in Vietnam. Hence why you would see Chinese, Vietnamese, and Cambodians who frequent these places - (and maybe some Hmong too, lol) OVERALL rating is mediocre and I could just make this at home myself. I would only come back if I am desperate, which seems very likely since there's no chance of me going back to Cali any time soon.
