Boston Chowda is located in Quincy Market at Faneuil Hall. My family took a walking tour (Freedom Trail) of historic Boston. We were in between our second walking tour so decided to have lunch at Faneuil Hall. Quincy Market reminded me a little of Reading Terminal Market with the noise, crowds and musical chairs to find a table. We shared a Lobster Roll and the Lobster Chowder. Both items were pretty darn tasty but we were also very hungry after walking for 2 hours. The Lobster Chowder did have a good amount of Lobster in it. The lobster roll was also pretty standard size and did not have a lot of mayo which we liked. Boston Chowda was touristy but so were we and it was a solid 3.5 to 4 Yelp stars. read more

Braved thru this bustling place and found this packed eatery. It's one of the booths amongst many from side to side down this hall. Ordered the clam chowder and the crab salad sandwich. Next had to find a place to sit and enjoy it. That was a bit tricky as everyone was looking for seats too. It was like a free for all, whereby as soon as you spotted open seats, you had better rush over and sit down quickly. Definitely a must-go if you're ever visiting Boston and happen to stop by Quincy Market. I ordered a medium order of the New England Clam Chowder. My boyfriend had an order of the crab cake. The clam chowder lived up to its hype. My only complaint is the texture, it was too watery for me. I prefer my clam chowder thick and creamy. But, there was a good amount of clams and potatoes in the chowder. The crab cake order came with 2 cakes. The tarter sauce it came with tasted great with the crab cakes. There wasn't any filler in the crab cake like some other places I've been too, which I really enjoyed. Parking is quite difficult here so if you can, try to take the train here or you might have to stick it in a lot like we did. It was really hard choosing a place in Boston for clam chowder since they have it everywhere but I chose this place because they also had lobster bisque I wanted to try AND I mean im not upset about trying another lobster roll while I'm in New England. The line was a bit long and thing is in a "hall" with tons and tons of different food options. I had a hard time deciding if I wanted a cold or hot lobster roll. I ended up paying a little more for the hot one and it was great don't get me wrong but I wish I had tried the cold one (mostly Bc I hadn't had a cold one since I had been in the New England area) I got the lobster bisque AND clam chowder. I walked past Boston Chowda Co. while checking out Quincy Market and did a double take. I didn't expect to find such a gem in a food court...a super touristy food court at that. So much delicious looking food on display. I spent 10 minutes looking at their display cases of food wanting to order it all! The bun was so well toasted and well buttered. My first lobster roll experience in Boston was a cold Maine styled roll but wow...after having Boston Chowda Co.'s hot buttered roll I think I am most def a fan of the hot buttered VS chilled Maine style. The lobster meat was so rich, sweet, and fresh. Boston don't play around when it comes to lobster. The rolls were a good size with a bunch of lobster packed into it. It came with a lemon wedge that I didn't even use because I already enjoyed the flavor of the lobster roll as is. I also tried the lobster mac and cheese pie and thought that was okay. Maybe a 3.5/5. The pasta they use is cavatappi. Decent amount of lobster meat in the pie. Would I get it again? Probably not. But it definitely wasn't bad. I'm impressed with the amount of "pies" they offer - Boston Chowda Co. has a pretty big menu! My only regret was not having enough room to get the New England clam chowda in a bread bowl. Stepped off the plane in Boston, MA and made a beeline straight for Faneuil Hall for some Boston Chowda. With family in the area who has, self proclaimed "tried them all", we went straight to Boston Chowda Co. for our bowl and it did not disappoint. What else caught my eye? The Hot Buttered Lobster Roll, of course. I saw the words "hot, butter, lobster" and my mind was made up. It was everything I dreamed of. There were a few other options to choose from: the Maine Lobster Roll, the Lobster Seafood Salad Roll or the Hot Buttered Lobster Roll but listen...even though I live in the middle of the country and completely landlocked, I know really good food. I applaud people that try to bring really great foods to other regions, and even the Lobster Roll attempt this past summer at the Iowa State Fair was a pretty decent creation, but it held absolutely zero against this Lobster Roll. Oh...my...gahhhhhhhhhh. It wasn't overloaded with butter to the point it overwhelmed the meal, but was truly 'the right amount' of warm butter, CHUNKS of lobster, served on a hot, toasted roll. This has got to be the best lobster roll I've ever had, and I've had a lot of them over the years. I've had cold ones, hot ones, buttered ones, saladish ones, seafood mix ones, but nothing like this and the crazy thing is that it's just lobster and butter. No other garnishments, no fillers, just lobster and butter. The clam chowder "chowda" was equally as delicious, though I do wish we would have gotten the sourdough bread bowl (in hindsight). To break down a good clam chowder, it works like this in my mind: I don't want hunks of potatoes so large it takes away from the soup, I don't want a bunch of fillers like carrots and celery taking away from the flavor, I don't want it so thick I feel like I'm eating a stew, and I don't want it too thin where it's more like a broth. I want flavor, the right consistency and dammit...I want actual chunks of clams in my CLAM chowder! This had everything in the most delicious combination, served with crackers on the side, I have a hard time believing there's a better version out there. This place isn't bad, but I had to round down because of service. Like any tourist area, you'll have all sorts of customers - that said, you'll have all sorts of employees too. The customer in front of me had a miscommunciate with the cashier and ended up leaving her crab? roll because she confused it with lobster (wanted lobster but said crab, which I'll explain in a bit) her English was a bit meh too but continuing along... My time to order! I got the Maine Lobster Roll, cashier asked me if I wanted to add the combo to include a soup and a drink, I said yes, I paid. When I paid, it was right around $30. here's where the confusion lied with me - the manager's special had a photo of the 100% Maine COLD lobster roll with a drink and a soup, but there wasn't a physical display of the roll itself. That manager's special is $22.95 which is a give or take $7 difference than what I ordered. It was back and forth between the cashier (not one who took my order but now who handed me my food, and then a cook shortly after) and me because I wasn't comprehending what I ordered and what the manager special was.... because again there wasn't a physical display of the roll of the manager special - I asked for it repeatedly, and ofc they don't f*cking have one. So, I come off as this annoying tourist to them who isn't comprehending the 100% Maine COLD lobster roll has mayo and such versus what I ordered, doesn't have any of that when all I wanted to make sure was I understand what I ordered and I didn't get overcharged. but why would anyone care if I understand. it's tourist area. the workers themselves didn't speak good English. they didn't care and they didnt care if I understood either. and then it circles back to the lady who took my order, telling me what I told her my order was - shut up lady I didn't say you were wrong I just wasn't understanding. all in all, try it once (cuz on Yelp this got the highest rating for lobster roll at Faneuil Hall and u gotta give credit when credit due) but for my sake, don't tip them I recommend to the business though to physically display the more popular items aka lobster roll, it'll lessen the confusion for tourists whose English is limited (customer in front of me) and for tourists like myself whose English isn't limited, but a picture wouldn't hurt for clarification purposes lol read more
