I came to Quincy Market pretty early on a weekday and managed to avoid the usual crowd, so I made the most of it by going to what seems to be the most popular place! Before you order, take note - you can try samples! I wouldn't have known had I not seen the woman in front of me doing so, and I took advantage of it even though I already knew I would just get their classic Boston clam chowder. I got a bread bowl since I was planning on going without food until dinner, and it certainly did the job (I actually couldn't even finish the whole bread). I had a fun time spooning up the soft soaked bread and ripping and dipping the crust. And the chowder itself is great! Thick and creamy and not watered down at all, and lots of clam meat as well. I can't say if the chowder elsewhere in the market is any better, but I'm quite satisfied having just tried this place. The Boston Chowda Company located in the Faneuil Hall Market Place should be on your list if you are looking for a good lobster roll and clam chowder during your Freedom Trail hike. The restaurant is a vendor in the crowded and busy Market Place which may take some time to find amongst all the other popular options. The "chowda" is really good. The creamy base is thick and smooth with lots of tender potatoes and juicy clams. Adding a bit of pepper is optional, but recommended. Of course you need to add the crackers for a full experience. Their version of clam chowder is exactly what you are hoping for when visiting Boston. For a place touting their soups, their lobster roll is also very delicious. I opted for the hot buttered lobster roll which was served in a garlic bread roll dripping with sweet butter. This was a heavenly match to the sweet and buttery fresh lobster meat and required many napkins to keep clean and presentable. The combo is very expensive, but it is very good and highly recommended. Unfortunately, seating is very limited inside the marketplace and in the surrounding area. It would be a shame to eat while walking in case any of that valuable lobster or chowder drips on the ground. There are probably much cheaper options in the area, but the convenience and quality of the Boston Chowda Co. makes them hard to beat. read more

While my friends, boyfriend, and I were at Quincy Market. I decided to stop by Boston Chowda Co. because I saw they savory seafood pies that seemed just too delicious to refuse. Our friends ordered the Shrimp salad roll served with lettuce and lemon. The shrimp salad roll was mediocre. I prefer having a lobster roll because it's much meatier. My boyfriend and I ordered the lobster bisque and Maine lobster pie. The lobster bisque was very creamy and rich. However, I didn't really see any lobster chunks. The Maine lobster pie was filled with their Rockport lobster bisque and topped with their season Ritz Cracker crumbs. The pie was absolutely wonderful and delicious! It was extremely creamy and the lobster chunks was delicious. I highly recommend this Maine lobster pie if you like something savory and if you're a seafood lover! The New England Clam Chowder takes the cake. It was so heartily creamy with nice, big chunks of clam. The Lobster Bisque had a great, rich sherry flavor, but lacked significant pieces of lobster. For a staple in a crowded market around lunch time, it was quite impressive that I was able to obtain two rounds of soup with minimal waiting. Oyster crackers come with every soup. They take credit card on any order. I also thought smalls were pretty reasonably priced for a filling soup containing seafood. Regrets? Quincy Market is a tourist trap, and I didn't really find their other offerings to be too appealing other than Boston Chowda Co. Luckily for Will C. and I, we came in the late afternoon, so we didn't have to wait in a horrendously long line. We both chose to have the New England Clam Chowder Bread Bowl, which we really enjoyed. Bread bowls usually leave me disappointed, but this one was an exception. The bread had the right amount of crunch on the outside to hold all the hot soup in, but the inside was nice and fluffy. As for the chowder itself...I LOVED IT. Perfectly creamy with lots and lots of clams. Definitely one of the best clam chowders I had the pleasure of eating. A bread bowl at Boston Chowda Co. is a perfect snack. The roll was surprisingly not a grilled hot dog bun. This is a good thing! Accompanying the roll was a decent portion of clam chowda. The chowda had good consistency and plenty of clam flavor. Overall happy I picked the Boston Chowda Co. It was a great lunch stop on my walking tour of the Freedom Trail. You should definitely bookmark this place! read more

Boston Chowda Co. is located inside the Quincy Market building. You'll see a bunch of vendors selling chowder and lobster rolls and other delicious foods, but after surveying it all we decided to go here. As with the other vendors in Quincy market, you order food from the counter and then join the other hundred tourists trying to find a seat. Luckily, we were here early enough that we found a table without a problem. Apparently their daily special has gone from 15.99 to $19 in the past few years. Hey, supply and demand man. I can't hate on them too much for that. The special includes a lobster roll, cup of chowda, and a drink. I was a little annoyed at the workers. We asked if we could sample the chowders since there were a few different types-- New England, seafood bisque, corn chowder, etc. You could tell by the colors they were different. The person behind the counter couldn't tell us which was which. Anyway, we were able to sample the seafood bisque and it didn't blow me away. So we opted for the New England--why not get the original. I really liked the lobster roll and ours had big ole chunks of lobster. The roll it was on was soft and buttered up. My only wish was that it was bigger because it was too good. The chowder was actually impressive too. It's hard to get the consistency just right between thick versus watery and I think they hit it on the nose here. Those who complained there was too much bread in the lobster roll are just not resourceful enough. Any extra bread was used to sop up and clean up the chowder bowl. Lunch devoured. So you just order your food and find a seat in the dining area or you can find a seat outside. The amount of lobster in the roll is unreal and so yummy!! Clam chowder is also very flavorful and has no sand, something I was afraid of. Portion is definitely enough to fill you up because I couldn't even finish! I ended up just eating the lobster and throwing away the bread (which was good too) I love that when you order, they instantly put your food together so you don't have to wait for your name to be called. Despite Quincy Market being so busy, they're able to handle large crowds well. Lobster rolls are made and put aside and clam chowders come in a cup. Only downside would be some attitude from the cashiers, but they are probably overwhelmed by the hectic line of people. The bread bowl clam chowder was so good! This is quite possibly the best chowda in all of Boston! It's infused with delious clam/seafood flavor. It's chunky. It's creamy. It's slap-yo-leg-silly good. The other items on the menu aren't quite as memorable. The lobster roll was too mayonnaise-y and did not taste fresh. The lobster pot pie was way too creamy and heavy, and possibly sitting around a bit longer than it should have been. Moral of the story-- stick to what they're known for. Go with the chowda. This place is legit and you know it because the line for this food stall inside the Quincey Market was the longest line! The wait in line wasn't that long and the price of the chowder bread bowl was decent. I got the traditional clam chowder and it was one of the best chowders I have tasted; the consistency wasn't heavy and all of the clams weren't over cooked and chewy. The chowders on the West Coast are too heavy/creamy and all of the clams are chewy and inedible. He hubby got the corn chowder, which was equally tasty.
