Bottino is a solid spot for Italian fare if you're in NYC. Is it the best spot you can go in the city? Definitely not but you won't be upset with the choice if you're bopping around Chelsea. We had a party of 4 so you know the drinks were flowing and the apps were a must. For apps we ordered the arancini and the fried artichokes. Bothe appetizers were good. Nothing extraordinary but overall flavorful. For my main, I ordered the braised boar shank & it was just okay. In my opinion, it was swimming in too much sauce. The sauce did not complement the flavors of the risotto too well...they clashed a little bit. The risotto itself was over cooked, where the rice burst and made it a little too gummy. The flavor of the risotto was on point but because of the excess sauce from the shank and the overcook of the rice, it had a lot to be desired. Overall, Bottino is a good choice for a night out. It took a dining promotion to get me to try this place; don't know why since I live around the corner. Well, I do know one reason why; I had no idea it went beyond the dark narrow front space! What a pleasant surprise; the place is really big and the garden is so nice! The server was a little distracted and disinterested, but not neglectful. And all the dishes we tried were excellent: pear and Gorgonzola salad, beet salad with goat cheese, house-made papardelle with lobster and rock shrimp (really good, brothy, light tomato sauce), and spaghettini with clams (also in a light, but perceptibly different, delicious tomato sauce). My favorite spot for a lovely dinner in Chelsea. With a beautiful garden, with heat lamps in winter for year round al fresco dining. Reasonably priced, a couple can go for a nice dinner out for a little over $100. There's an above average number of types of wine available by the glass, offering options to compliment whatever meal direction you want to go. The dining menu is a bit less extensive than what one might hope for, but you have guaranteed success with whatever you choose. Our favorite dishes are the cinghiale orecchiette and the bolognese. I enjoyed everything served but not all entrees or dishes were served at the same time for the guests. Some people had there plates while others waited. The room was a little cramped for the event. I was intrigued by a cocktail on the menu, so I absolutely had to order it! The Grey Gardens Martini is made with Organic Black Tea and Grey Goose, St. Germain, Preserved Lemon Syrup and Honey. This was a fantastic cocktail! If you come, you MUST get it! There were so many options on the menu, I struggled with what to order. Luckily, Jillian and I were interested in the same two entrees, so we split them. Problem solved! Each dish was very different and I'm glad we split them. Initially, I was a bit scared of the boar sausage but it was delicious! The lasagna was also so great - much heavier than the pasta but very tasty. Lilian also got the Orecchiette. Kate got the Sautéed Shrimp with Lentils and Garlic, White Wine and Herbs. After we finished our meal, we ordered a coffee and got dessert. Jillian and I got the Warm Tuscan Bread Pudding, Kate got the Pecan Tart and Lilian got something with Biscotti...I believe Affogato. Usually I LOVE bread pudding, but this one was a bit too custardy. The custard was very eggy and almost looked scrambled, so it was a bit of a bummer. I came to Bottino for a friends' birthday dinner on a Friday night. We were seated in the tented outdoor area which was beautifully lighted. I didn't make the reservations, but I heard Bottino was extremely accommodating for the large party. They gave a big loaf of bread with butter, but it was weird that plates were not provided. Did they expect us to just eat off the table? Also a couple of us ordered some apps to share and they only brought out 4 plates. I ordered a Peroni, but they gave me another Italian beer which was just as great. We ordered 2 bottles of wine, but the waiter literally gave everyone a glass except me which was super awkward. Perhaps it was because I was drinking beer, but it would have been nice if he would at least ask. Note that my friend was drinking beer as well but he poured her a glass of wine. I had to ask for a wine glass after I finished my beer. I ordered the skirt steak, and it was delicious. I asked for it medium rare, but thought it was cooked medium. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it very much. I asked if I could replace the side (corona beans) and they were happy to accommodate. The choices were broccoli rabe or mashed potatoes. Although I immediately wanted the mash, I held back my temptation and got the greens. The broccoli rabe was chopped and steamed perfectly but it was way too salty though which was unfortunate. I tried to mask it by putting on some Parmesan cheese lol At around 11pm the entire restaurant cleared up and they turned on some bright lights which was odd and made it seem like they wanted us to leave which I thought was kind of rude. We ordered a tiramisu to celebrate the birthday girl and the dessert wasn't that great. They also didn't bring out enough spoons for everyone. Flavorless, Expensive, and small portion sizes for the food. Our group got 2 appetizers, the squid ink pasta and bolognese, desserts (tiramisu and something else), 2 bottles of wine. The squid ink pasta lacked seasoning and the pasta was undercooked. Also, it is not a real squid ink sauce, it is store bought squid ink infused pasta. Aside from the food, this was the worst service i've ever received. The waiters were great, however the manager of the restaurant ruined our experience. He was rude and inappropriate on multiple occasions. When the waiters got my order wrong due to a pasta change i requested for the squid ink, he firstly did not explain that their staff were unaware that such changes could be made, but he continued with a very abrasive tone in stating how i was wrong in placing the wrong order. Subsequently, he instructed me to let the others at my table know they should start eating since it will take a while. You just don't do that with guests, totally unacceptable service. After which, when i purchased some cupcakes to celebrate our friend's birthday at the restaurant. He proceeded to scold and lecture my friend and I for bringing outside food in, although we received candles and a lighter from the waitstaff. He even wanted to charge us an extra $5/pax for the outside desserts. And this is after the fact we spent $675 on all the items at the restaurant. The food here is incredible. We went for a small bday party, and the restaurant is really nice. The service is also amazing. Our waiter was attentive, polite and extremely knowledgeable. Reserved online, walked in and was seated quickly. the exterior is just a restaurant front. but, when you walk in, there is a narrow front section and opens up to a beautiful backroom with what looks like a garden space and outdoor seating. It's too cold now to sit out there, but I can see the beauty. The inside back is very rustic. dark and white walls. I liked the look of it. The bread is really good. It's very crumb-y. But, chewy. I favor that kind of bread myself. We got the kale salad. It was ok. Not the best I've had, but not the worst. The dressing was sweet. We got the salmon and the lasagna. The salmon came with green beans and potatoes. It had a funky color, it could have been the lighting in the room or the woodsy searing they did, but it looked orangey/pink. The lasagna was good. it was light, but meaty. I think the cheese element was reduced and more sauce and meat were in it, but it kept its shape. But, the word I would use for the lasagna was meaty and light. We also got the tiramisu. It about par. It was spongey more than anything. I wasn't a big fan of it. But, it was good. Lovely establishment and excellent food! From start to finish this was a great dining experience. Food: We started with the burrata and prosciutto special as an appetizer and I must say that this would be an AMAZING item to have on the menu full time. Unreal! The prosciutto had so much flavor and it paired perfectly with the grade A burrata. If you are lucky enough to be there when they are serving this appetizer, do yourself a favor and order it! For our entrees I had the gnocchi and my fiancé had the rigatoni bolognese. Superb! Not to mention, the prices are VERY reasonable, especially when you consider the quality of the ingredients. Service: The wait staff was incredibly friendly and did an excellent job of attending to our needs. The hosts were equally friendly and seated us right away (despite the fact that we were early to our reservation). Decor: I loved the design of the restaurant. It was a really cool atmosphere and had a great and romantic vibe. We sat outside in the covered (and heated) patio by the garden and it was equally romantic. Loved it! The only reason this was not a five star review. Was because the appetizer came out pretty slow and then was immediately followed by our entree so we didn't have much of an opportunity to enjoy everything. We went from high and dry to full fledged feast. That being said, the food made up for it! Overall: If the timing had been better this would've been an immaculate dining experience. We visited this spot over the weekend, and were lucky enough to snag a walk-in table. We were seated in the back garden, and I was pleasantly surprised by how peaceful and cool(!!) it was. We ordered the pan-fried branzino and the orecchiette for dinner - the branzino was perfectly crisp and the orecchiette was in a pesto-y (broccoli rabe-based?) sauce and surprisingly large. Both were delicious, and between the two, we walked out full! Not to mention the very large pour of pinot grigio I got with my meal. I had my wedding here for a total of 15 guests. We had our ceremony in the North Garden and then moved to dinner in the East Garden. The gorgeous half outdoor setting and brick patio gave the wedding the perfect ambience which I can best describe as secret garden in the middle of the city. Throughout the night many guests came up to me and commented that the staff at Bottino were checking on them and their drinks and making sure everyone was comfortable. The food was insanely delicious. So much of it and such good quality. Beautiful ingredients in dishes designed to let them sing, which was perfect on a warm summer night. We planned one wedding, cancelled, and then planned another due to Covid and Bottino was understanding and flexible and always available for a call or email. No question felt too big or too small. They also went out of their way to work with our florist to solve how we could hang flowers from the iron bars across the ceiling. I could not recommend them enough. read more

But as the night went on, the bartenders were frequently engaged with long conversations with the servers at the end of the bar, so I couldn't get anyone's attention to get a dessert menu, order dessert, and then ask for the bill. I was pretty frustrated by the end, so I skipped the dessert. The first course, burrata and prosciutto was delicious. The pork chop Milanese was ok. It needed more salt and lacked flavor. I was really looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner here but was disappointed. The service could have been better. There were 2 items on the pre prix menu that were not given to us, the arancini and the crostini. It's unfortunate because they were included in the price, and the main reason we chose this place was for the menu. The turkey had a little too much salt for my taste and the drinks barely had any alcohol or none at all. Besides that, the rest of the meal was good. I could have had more desert instead. This is a truly special restaurant. We rented out the private East Garden room for a family dinner. The staff couldn't have been more responsive and accommodating, answering all my questions before the event and meeting every possible need. It was a hot day and our original plan of being on the High Line before dinner got scrapped. The restaurant let us order cocktails at the bar in the AC early while they were setting up and technically still closed. They even provided a fresh watermelon juice at the start of dinner to help beat the heat. When researching restaurants in NYC to host a dinner, I struggled to find a place that was attractive, delicious, and reasonably priced. Bottino ticked every box and honestly exceeded my expectations! The garden is charming, the food and drinks are stellar, and the staff are the bomb. But the main dining room is so clustered that the sound bounces off the walls and you can't really hear yourself think let alone the person next to you...but the worst part of the evening is that at 10:24 in the dot the staff starts making tons of crazy noise taking the place apart, I guess they close at 11...I get it they want to go home...but a good manager would have them start after the last customer had left, but nooooo they were moving tables, chairs, equipment, they even had a bin of all the utensils at a table right next to ours where they were throwing all the forks and knives into and making tons of noise, etc...a good manager would instruct them to do this in the kitchen , not next to a customer table that is still having dessert! read more

Fantastic food and service in trying times. I have eaten here twice over the last few weeks and had a wonderful experience. We dined in the outdoor area and enjoyed every mouthful. Each course was delicious.The team even overheard me wishing my brother a happy birthday (we didnt make a big deal as they have enough to contend with)and surprised us with a complementary glass of bubbly and a candle on a plate(covid friendly) which was such a nice touch. Came here for lunch and was told I could sit wherever I liked, but it took too long to get a menu. I ordered a chicken breast salad which is listed as an entree ($18). The plate came dirty and had a hair on it. They re-set it on a different plate, but the salad itself was pitiful. It had maybe a quarter of a brown avocado, three slices of tomato, a small bed of brown lettuce, and the chicken wasn't even cooked all the way through. And no way was that an entree portion.
